TikTok does not list a separate “Creator Account” type: its account-types guidance describes a Personal Account as suitable for content creators. To change between Personal and Business, open Profile > Menu ☰ > Settings and privacy > Account and follow the account-type prompts. If you need to promote a business and also post personal content organically, TikTok recommends keeping two separate accounts rather than switching back and forth.
What “creator account” means on TikTok
TikTok’s account-types guidance uses Personal Account, not “Creator Account,” for the option it says suits content creators, general users, and most public figures. So if by “professional creator account” you mean an account for publishing creator content, you may not need to separate it from your personal account: creators can use a Personal Account.
TikTok identifies Business and Organization Accounts as separate options. A Business Account is intended for a brand or business whose primary goal is promoting a product or service. An Organization Account is for brands or organizations that need team access or account access not tied to one person’s personal login or contact details.
Choose an account type for each purpose
| Account type | Best suited to | Music access | Privacy and links | Tools and qualifications |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Personal | General users, content creators, and most public figures. | May access both the general music library and Commercial Music Library. | Can be private. A profile website link is available once the account has at least 1,000 followers. | May include creator tools, monetization features, analytics, and Promote. Feature availability and eligibility depend on factors including location, age, and account requirements; analytics require at least one public post. |
| Business | Brands and businesses whose primary goal is promoting a product or service. | Commercial Music Library; not the general music library. TikTok says songs in the general library are restricted to personal entertainment use. | Described by TikTok as a public profile. Can post a website link. | Includes business-oriented marketing tools. TikTok’s account-types guidance qualifies feature availability; details can vary. |
| Organization | Brands or organizations that need multiple team members to access an account or do not want account access associated with an individual’s personal login or contact details. | Not stated by TikTok’s account-types guidance. | Not stated by TikTok’s account-types guidance. | Not available everywhere; created through certain business platforms, such as TikTok Shop Seller Center, and may not include all features. |
Music-library access can be an important reason to choose carefully. For business-related content, do not assume a track in the general library is cleared for commercial use; TikTok directs Business Accounts to the Commercial Music Library.

Switch your TikTok account type in the app
- Open TikTok and tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap Menu ☰ at the top.
- Tap Settings and privacy.
- Tap Account.
- Choose the account-type switching option and follow the prompts. TikTok’s guidance explicitly names “Switch to Business Account”; it does not specify the exact current button label for switching back to Personal.
App labels and layouts may vary by version. If the wording differs, use the account-type options under Settings and privacy > Account rather than relying on a particular label.

TikTok advises against switching back and forth between Business and Personal. If you want one profile to promote a business and another to publish organic personal content, its guidance recommends separate accounts. Assign each account a clear purpose: use Business for the business’s promotional activity and Personal for creator or personal publishing.
TikTok’s account-type guidance does not explain whether switching changes existing posts, drafts, analytics, or monetization eligibility. Do not assume those items will be preserved or removed; check the current in-app information before making a change if they matter to you.
