To revoke a supported personal AI agent, open the agent’s integration or connector settings and disconnect 1Password. That removes approved sign-in requests and stops the agent from using the 1Password integration for new logins. If the connection is a 1Password Security Automation OAuth application, revoke it separately from 1Password.com → Integrations; this invalidates every access token created with that application’s client credentials.

Revocation is not the same as signing out of a website. An agent may already have an active session at the destination service, so sign out there as well. Enterprise incidents require additional containment: disable the affected scoped credential or service account, rotate exposed secrets, and review audit records.

The right response depends on how the connection was created. A personal agent’s connector, an OAuth application, and a machine-bound service identity are separate access paths. Identify the path first, then revoke it at the control that issued it. If an environment uses more than one path, check and close each one.

How do I disconnect 1Password from a supported personal AI agent?

Use the agent app, not the 1Password vault, to remove a personal-agent connection. The exact wording varies by partner, but the control is normally under the agent’s integrations, connectors, account, or security settings.

  1. Open the AI agent app. Use the same agent and account that previously requested a 1Password sign-in.
  2. Open its integration or connector settings. Look for an entry labeled 1Password, password manager, connected apps, or sign-in integrations.
  3. Choose Disconnect, Remove, or Turn off 1Password. Confirm the action if the agent asks you to.
  4. Check for a confirmation. A successful disconnect removes existing approved login requests and prevents the agent from continuing to use the 1Password integration to sign in.
  5. Contain the destination account separately. Sign out of the website the agent used and terminate its sessions using that site’s own controls.

Disconnecting the connector is the appropriate action for a supported personal agent such as an agent that uses 1Password’s opt-in sign-in flow. It does not require deleting vault items or changing every password. The control withdraws the agent’s approved integration path.

Before confirming, note the agent account, workspace, and destination websites involved. That record helps you distinguish a failed disconnect from a session that simply remains active elsewhere. If more than one person or workspace can administer the agent, check each workspace rather than assuming a change in one account applies globally.

What if the agent app has no 1Password disconnect button?

First verify that you are in the same agent account and workspace that established the connection. Partner apps can place the control under a different label or expose it only after opening the connected-app details. If the option is still absent, use the agent’s own account and security-management pages to end sessions, then contact the partner’s support team; do not assume that closing the app revoked an established connection.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Also check whether the connection is actually an OAuth application or an enterprise credential rather than a personal-agent connector. Those paths are revoked in 1Password’s Integrations page or in the system that manages the credential. Disconnecting an unrelated connector will not invalidate those credentials.

Does disconnecting 1Password sign the AI agent out of the website?

No. Disconnecting 1Password stops the credential-integration approval, but the third-party website controls how long an already-established session remains valid. Treat the website session as a separate security boundary.

  1. Open the website or service where the agent signed in.
  2. Use that service’s Sign out, Log out all devices, or session-management control.
  3. Review active sessions, devices, API keys, and connected applications if the site provides those pages.
  4. Remove any session or application that belongs to the agent, and record the time of the change for incident review.

If you cannot access the destination account, use its recovery or support process to invalidate sessions. Do not rely on the 1Password disconnect alone to terminate activity that is already authenticated at the website.

This distinction matters even when the agent never saw the password. A website session can carry its own authorization after the initial form fill. The agent may therefore continue reading information or taking actions inside that account until the site expires or you terminate the session. Check the destination service immediately after disconnecting, not only when you next see an agent sign-in request.

How do I revoke a 1Password OAuth application?

OAuth applications used for Security Automation are revoked from 1Password’s web console, not from a personal agent’s connector menu. Revocation removes the application from active integrations and revokes all access tokens generated with its client credentials.

  1. Sign in to your 1Password account at 1Password.com.
  2. Open Integrations.
  3. Select the active OAuth application associated with the automation or agent.
  4. Choose Revoke integration.
  5. Confirm with your account password.
  6. Update or disable the automation that used the application, then verify that new API requests fail as expected.

This action applies to the selected OAuth application and its client credentials. It is different from disconnecting a partner agent: the OAuth workflow is managed in 1Password’s Integrations page, while the personal-agent connector is managed in the agent app.

Capture the application name and revocation time in your incident notes. If multiple OAuth applications appear, match the selected entry to the automation’s configured client before revoking it. Revoking the wrong application can stop an unrelated workflow, while leaving the affected one active.

What does OAuth revocation invalidate?

According to 1Password’s Security Automation documentation, revoking an OAuth application revokes all access tokens generated with those client credentials. Any process still configured with those tokens must be reconfigured with replacement credentials before it can operate again.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Revocation is broader than deleting one token from a script: every token issued for that application’s client credentials is covered. After the action, inspect deployment jobs, scripts, and other automations that used the application. A process that keeps retrying with revoked tokens should be disabled or updated, rather than treated as proof that revocation failed.

What should I do if a Security Automation secret was exposed?

Rotate the exposed client secret immediately, then update the integration that uses it. A rotated Security Automation secret can leave the previous secret valid for six hours, so rotation alone is not an instant kill switch.

  1. Rotate the secret in the relevant Security Automation integration.
  2. Replace the secret immediately in the agent, CI job, script, or service that should continue running.
  3. Stop workloads that should not continue. Disable the affected automation if you are investigating unauthorized use.
  4. Revoke the OAuth integration when the application itself should no longer have access.
  5. Review activity during the six-hour overlap. Check logs for token use, source systems, and actions performed before the old secret became unusable.

Do not publish or paste a replacement secret into an agent conversation, ticket, or source repository. Store it in the system’s approved secret-management mechanism and restrict who can retrieve it.

Plan the change in two tracks: containment and continuity. If the workload is trusted and must continue, install the replacement immediately and verify a permitted request. If the workload is suspect, disable it first and preserve logs before restoring anything. Because the former secret can remain valid during the six-hour window, assume it is usable until that period ends or the OAuth application is revoked.

How should an enterprise contain an agent or service-account incident?

Enterprise containment should target the narrowest identity that can be disabled without interrupting unrelated systems. Use the affected scoped credential or service account, inspect audit records, rotate secrets, and verify that no other agent or workflow still holds access.

Disable the affected identity

Disable the scoped credential or service account used by the agent. A properly scoped identity lets you stop the identified workload while preserving unrelated integrations. If several agents share one credential, treat that credential as broadly exposed and plan a replacement that separates workloads.

Write down the identity’s scope before disabling it. That makes it possible to tell which systems should stop and which should remain available. If the identity cannot be separated, disable the shared credential, identify every dependent workload, and coordinate replacements rather than silently leaving one consumer active.

Compare activity before and after each containment action. Look for requests made after the personal-agent disconnect, OAuth revocation, secret rotation, or service-account disablement. A continuing event may indicate a separate token, an existing website session, or another workflow using the same identity.

Rotate and replace credentials

Rotate exposed secrets, update approved workloads, and remove old values from deployment configuration and local environments. For OAuth-based automation, revoke the application when all of its tokens must be invalidated rather than merely replacing one secret.

Validate workload boundaries

After containment, confirm that the replacement identity has only the permissions required for its job. Test a permitted operation and an explicitly forbidden operation, then verify in the logs that the expected identity performed the work.

Repeat the check for every agent or workflow that might have inherited the old credential. The goal is not just to make one request fail; it is to show that the affected identity is disabled, replacement credentials are in the intended locations, and unrelated systems still use their own identities.

Can an AI agent see my whole 1Password vault?

A supported personal agent is not given the contents of your entire vault. The agent requests that 1Password prompt you to sign in, and you approve or deny that request. 1Password fills the username, password, and one-time password directly into the website form outside the agent’s view.

The agent cannot approve its own 1Password sign-in requests or access information stored in your 1Password vaults. This design limits what the agent receives from the password manager itself.

That limitation does not make the destination account harmless. Once the website accepts the sign-in, the agent may be able to read information or perform actions inside that account, depending on the agent and the website. End the website session and review the destination service’s sessions whenever you revoke an integration.

What the agent can request

  • A prompt asking you to approve a sign-in through 1Password.
  • Completion of the sign-in flow after you approve it, subject to the partner integration.

What the agent cannot obtain from the personal-agent flow

  • The contents of your 1Password vaults.
  • The username, password, or one-time password as values exposed to the agent.
  • Independent approval of its own 1Password sign-in request.

The boundary is specific to the personal-agent sign-in flow. It should not be generalized to a Security Automation OAuth application or a machine credential, which are separate integrations with their own scopes, tokens, and administrative controls.

Which revocation method applies to my connection?

Identify how the connection was created before choosing a control. Personal-agent connectors, OAuth automations, and enterprise credentials have different revocation surfaces and effects.

Connection type Where to revoke Immediate effect Required follow-up
Supported personal agent Agent app’s 1Password connector or integration settings Existing approved login requests are removed and the integration stops signing in Sign out of the target website and check its sessions
Security Automation OAuth application 1Password.com → Integrations → OAuth application → Revoke integration The application is removed from active integrations and all access tokens created with its client credentials are revoked Replace credentials in the automation and review logs
Enterprise or machine-bound agent credential Disable the scoped credential or service account; inspect audit logs The identified agent identity is stopped while unrelated access can remain available when credentials are properly scoped Rotate secrets, investigate activity, and validate workload-identity boundaries

If you cannot classify the connection, start by listing the places where credentials are configured: the partner agent, 1Password Integrations, CI or deployment settings, and service-account management. The first matching control is not necessarily the only one; an agent can have a personal connector while a separate automation uses OAuth.

What are the current 1Password for Agents requirements and limits?

1Password’s support information describes 1Password for Agents as an opt-in feature. The listed requirements and account limits are specific to the support page’s current availability and can change as partner integrations roll out.

  • An Individual or Family account on 1Password.com.
  • The 1Password app version 8.12.42 or later on a supported device.
  • A compatible partner agent app.
  • Team and Business accounts were listed as unsupported on that support page.
  • Accounts hosted on 1Password.ca or 1Password.eu were also listed as unsupported there.

The community announcement described Muse and SpaceXSI Grok Bot as rolling out, with additional integrations planned. Availability, supported platforms, and capabilities vary by partner, so check the current partner and 1Password support pages before treating any particular agent as supported.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

These limits explain why a missing connector may be an eligibility issue rather than a failed revocation. Confirm the account type, sign-in domain, app version, device support, and partner availability before troubleshooting labels or menus. Rollout status can change, so do not infer support for every agent from support for one named partner.

How can I verify that access is really revoked?

Verification should test both the 1Password integration and the destination website. A green message in one interface is not proof that every session or credential has been removed.

  1. Check the connector state. The agent should no longer show 1Password as connected.
  2. Check approved requests. Confirm that pending or previously approved sign-in requests are gone where the agent exposes that history.
  3. Check 1Password Integrations. For OAuth, confirm that the application no longer appears as an active integration.
  4. Check destination sessions. Use the website’s session-management page to confirm the agent’s session was ended.
  5. Check automation health. A workflow that should be disabled must stop making successful requests; a replacement workflow should use the new credential.
  6. Check logs. Look for activity after the revocation time, including use of a shared identity by another process.

Perform the checks in the same order as the containment sequence and record the result and timestamp. If the website still shows an active session after the connector is disconnected, that is expected to be handled at the website. If an OAuth application remains active, you may have selected a different application or revoked the wrong connection.

What are the most common revocation mistakes?

The most serious errors come from treating one control as if it covered every layer of access.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

  • Only closing the agent: closing a window does not necessarily disconnect the integration or end a website session.
  • Only changing a password: a destination site may retain an existing session or token after a password change.
  • Using the wrong revocation surface: a personal-agent connector is disconnected in the agent app, while an OAuth application is revoked from 1Password’s Integrations page.
  • Forgetting the six-hour secret overlap: after rotating a Security Automation secret, the previous secret may remain valid for six hours.
  • Disabling an overly broad identity: shared credentials can interrupt unrelated systems and make investigation harder; use scoped identities where possible.
  • Assuming vault access equals website access: the personal-agent flow limits vault visibility, but the signed-in website account may still expose data and actions to the agent.
  • Failing to check other workspaces: an agent may be connected under a different account or workspace than the one currently open.
  • Stopping after one successful test: one failed login does not prove that an existing website session, token, or second workflow is gone.
  • Leaving replacement secrets in unsafe places: a new secret pasted into a conversation, ticket, or repository can recreate the exposure.

What is the safest order for an urgent revocation?

For a personal agent, disconnect 1Password first, then terminate the destination website session. For OAuth or enterprise automation, disable the affected workload or identity when immediate containment is needed, revoke the OAuth integration if all generated tokens must be invalidated, rotate secrets, and review logs. Keep a written timeline so you can correlate token use, website activity, and administrative changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is disconnecting a personal agent the same as revoking an OAuth app?

No. A personal-agent connection is removed from the agent’s connector settings, while a Security Automation OAuth application is revoked from 1Password’s Integrations page. They are separate controls and should both be checked when an environment uses both.

What should I do if several automations share the exposed credential?

Treat the shared credential as broadly exposed, disable it, and identify every workload that used it from audit records. Replace it with separately scoped credentials so one agent can be contained without taking unrelated systems offline.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can an agent continue acting after it loses access to 1Password?

It may be able to continue using an already-authenticated website session until that site expires or you terminate it. End sessions through the destination service’s own controls rather than waiting for the password-manager integration to do so.

Which account types were listed as unsupported for 1Password for Agents?

The cited support information listed Team and Business accounts, along with accounts hosted on 1Password.ca or 1Password.eu, as unsupported. Eligibility and partner availability can change, so verify the current support page for your account and agent.

Does revoking an OAuth application revoke every token it created?

Yes. Revoking the Security Automation OAuth application removes it from active integrations and revokes all access tokens generated with its client credentials. Update or disable every process that used those tokens.

Is rotating a Security Automation secret an immediate kill switch?

No. The previous secret can remain valid for six hours after rotation. Replace the secret immediately, disable suspect workloads, and review activity during that overlap; revoke the OAuth application when all of its tokens must be invalidated.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What if the agent can no longer sign in but the website still shows its session?

That means the integration and website session are being controlled separately. Use the destination website’s sign-out or session-management controls to terminate the active session, then verify that no other token or workflow remains.

The Bottom Line

Disconnect personal-agent connectors in the agent app, revoke Security Automation OAuth applications from 1Password.com → Integrations, and end destination-website sessions separately. For enterprise incidents, disable scoped identities, account for the six-hour secret overlap, rotate credentials, and verify the result in logs.
