Add your files to the source, enable Loop Playlist, and check the transition from the last file back to the first. To avoid an immediate repeat at that boundary, choose a different first and last video; OBS shuffle does not guarantee that the boundary will be duplicate-free.
Why YouTube’s repeat button does not control a live broadcast
YouTube’s playlist-repeat control repeats playback for someone watching a playlist in the YouTube player. It does not change the sequence your encoder sends to a live broadcast. YouTube Help describes the viewer control as making “the playlist repeat continuously.” YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.
The YouTube IFrame Player API also supports looping and shuffling a playlist in an embedded player. Those settings affect that player, not the content emitted by OBS or another live encoder. YouTube IFrame Player API reference and YouTube embedded player parameters.
Set up a repeating playlist in OBS
1. Prepare the files and install VLC
Use video files you have permission to broadcast. Install VLC before configuring the source: OBS’s VLC Video source uses VLC libraries, and the source requires VLC to be installed. OBS documents the source and its playlist controls in Media Sources.

2. Add a VLC Video source to the broadcast scene
- In OBS, select the scene you use for the broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, add a VLC Video source.
- Open the source’s properties and add the video files to its playlist.
OBS scenes assemble sources into the output sent to the stream, so add the playlist to the scene that will be live. See OBS Scenes and Sources.
3. Choose loop and shuffle behavior
- Enable Loop Playlist to restart the source when it has run out of media files. OBS describes the control as specifying whether the source should restart after it runs out of files.
- Enable Shuffle Playlist if you want OBS to randomize the files rather than play them in list order. Shuffle and loop are separate controls; shuffle does not promise that the last video in one cycle will differ from the first in the next.
4. Check the cycle boundary
Preview the playlist through the end of a cycle and watch the transition from the final entry to the first. If the same video appears on both sides of that boundary and you do not want an immediate repeat, reorder the list or select a different first-and-last pairing. This is a practical check because OBS documents randomizing file order, not a no-repeat rule between cycles.

5. Send the scene to YouTube Live
Use your configured OBS streaming connection to send the scene output to the YouTube Live broadcast. Playlist looping only determines how this source plays; it does not replace the broadcast connection or establish account eligibility. Current account and broadcast setup requirements are not covered by the OBS playlist documentation.
What “without repeating” can mean

With OBS, you can loop an ordered playlist or randomize its order. If “without showing the same video twice” means no duplicate back-to-back across the cycle boundary, use an ordered list whose first and last entries differ and preview the transition. Shuffle alone is not a guarantee.
