You can mount a WebDAV share in Windows without RaiDrive by using File Explorer’s built-in Map Network Drive wizard or the NET USE command. Both methods rely on Windows’ WebDAV redirector, so you need the correct URL and authentication details from your provider or administrator.
What you need before you start
- The WebDAV endpoint URL, including the path, from your provider or server administrator. Do not assume a generic example URL is valid for your service.
- A supported account and authentication method, plus permission to access the share.
- For Basic Authentication, an HTTPS connection. Microsoft warns that sending credentials without SSL can create serious security risks.
Windows Explorer accesses WebDAV through the WebClient service. The server must be reachable and have WebDAV enabled for either method below to work. Microsoft’s general procedure is documented in Using the WebDAV Redirector.
Choose a mounting method

Mount the WebDAV share in File Explorer
- Open File Explorer, select This PC, then choose Map network drive.
- Select an unused drive letter.
- Enter the WebDAV URL provided by your service in the Folder field. Use the provider’s exact endpoint and path.
- Choose whether Windows should reconnect at sign-in if you want the mapping to persist, then select Finish.
- When prompted, enter the credentials and authentication details required by the provider.
If Windows cannot connect, check the URL and account permissions before changing Windows settings. Microsoft’s guide covers common redirector errors, including system error 67 and error 5.
Mount it from the command line
Microsoft documents this example:
NET USE * https://webdav.example.com/path
Replace the example address with the exact URL supplied by your provider. The asterisk asks Windows to choose the next available drive letter. This command example does not establish that a particular service uses that URL or path; confirm the endpoint and authentication requirements with the provider. Avoid putting passwords directly in a command that may be saved or exposed in shell history.

Troubleshoot connection and sign-in errors
System error 67: network name not found
Check that the endpoint URL is correct and reachable, that WebDAV is enabled on the server, and that the Windows WebClient service is running. A stopped service or missing redirector can prevent Windows from finding the WebDAV resource.
System error 5: access is denied
Verify the username and password, confirm that the account exists, and ask the provider or administrator to check content permissions and authentication configuration. The error can reflect any of those issues, not only a mistyped password.

Error 1920 on an IIS WebDAV site
On an IIS-hosted WebDAV site, this error can mean the account does not have an authoring rule. The site administrator should verify the applicable WebDAV authoring permissions.
Certificate selection or HTTPS warning
Use the hostname specified by the provider. Microsoft identifies a mismatch between the hostname used to connect and the name on the SSL certificate as a cause of certificate-selection problems. The server certificate must be valid for the hostname you enter.

Credentials are not sent to a fully qualified domain name
Windows’ WebDAV redirector uses WinHTTP. In some configurations, credentials are not automatically forwarded to fully qualified domain names or are not restored after sign-in. Microsoft documents an administrator-level AuthForwardServerList registry remedy for specific cases; it forwards credentials to matching servers, so keep the list narrowly restricted. Restart the WebClient service after changing the setting. See Microsoft’s guidance on intranet sites identified as Internet sites and connecting to a WebDAV web folder. This is not a first-step setup change.
Know the redirector’s documented limits
Microsoft’s redirector documentation lists a default file-transfer limit of 50,000,000 bytes (50 MB) and a default collection-attribute limit of 1,000,000 bytes (1 MB). These are documented Windows redirector defaults, not universal limits for every WebDAV client or provider. They may be relevant if transfers repeatedly fail at a size threshold or a large directory lists incompletely. Changing them involves registry settings and restarting WebClient, so first confirm the failure pattern and check with the server administrator. See Microsoft’s redirector reference.

Watch for case-sensitive filenames on Linux servers
Windows filenames are case-insensitive, while Linux filenames are case-sensitive. Microsoft warns that a Linux-hosted share containing names that differ only by capitalization can lead to overwritten data or file-not-found errors through the Windows redirector. Avoid creating or renaming files so that two names differ only by case.
