To limit what an AI agent can access when ordering food, give it access only to the ordering site, account features, and information needed for that order. Keep payment entry and final submission under your control, set a clear run limit, and verify the order yourself. Access approval alone does not make an order safe: it controls where the agent can go, not whether it can take consequential actions once there.
Set the access boundary before the agent starts
Write a narrow task that names the permitted ordering site and your requirements. For example: “On [ordering site], find a vegetarian dinner under $25 before tax from [restaurant]. Do not enter payment details or submit the order; show me the cart and total first.” Avoid open-ended directions such as “Order whatever looks good,” which leave the agent to make choices you may not have intended.
Grant only the site, account, and app access needed for that task. OpenAI’s computer-use safety guidance puts it plainly: “Keep access limited to what the task needs.” If you configure the agent, use an isolated browser or virtual machine where practical, and allowlist only the necessary sites and actions. Disable unrelated apps and connectors
Turn off apps, connectors, and permissions the order does not require. An agent that only needs to browse a menu should not also have access to unrelated email, files, or services. Treat website text as untrusted input
Menu descriptions, reviews, pop-ups, and other page content are information to evaluate, not instructions that can change your task. They should not override your constraints or authorize the agent to visit another site, reveal information, or take additional actions. Keep consequential actions behind your approval
Separate permission to open a site from permission to act on your behalf. Approving access to an origin—the website or service the agent wants to use—does not itself require the agent to ask before every consequential action. For a food order, keep these steps under your control:
- Entering or transmitting payment details.
- Submitting the final order.
- Making changes that affect your account or have a meaningful cost or commitment.
Have the agent prepare the cart, then inspect the restaurant, items, quantities, delivery details, fees, and total before you approve anything. If the agent requests broader access than the task requires, decline and narrow the task or permissions instead.

Bound the run and check the result
Limit how long or how many actions the agent can take, and set a maximum cost if the system supports it. Make sure you can stop the run or revoke access. These boundaries reduce the scope of a mistake, but they do not guarantee that an agent will behave as intended.
After the agent finishes—or after you submit an order—verify the result in the ordering service rather than relying only on the agent’s summary. Check the restaurant, selected items and options, total, delivery address, and order status. Use payment limits only as an extra layer
Some payment services document merchant locks or user-set spending limits. Those controls may constrain a payment, but they do not restrict which account data, menu pages, or other actions the agent can access. Check the provider’s current terms before using any payment control for an automated workflow.
In particular, Privacy.com documents merchant-locked cards and spending limits, but its terms prohibit use with automated purchasing software. Do not use Privacy.com for agent purchases unless the provider clarifies that your intended workflow is permitted. A practical pre-order checklist
- Name the one permitted ordering site and spell out food, budget, and delivery constraints.
