Windows 10 2004 Update is also called Windows 10 May 2020 Update. It is a major feature update that Microsoft releases every 6 months.

The last major update (1909), was released in November 2019.

If you are reading this guide from the same PC you want to update, it may be a good idea to open the guide on a different PC or from your smartphone. At some point during the update, your PC will restart several times.

Open Windows 10 Update Assistant link from the PC you want to update.
Then, when the page opens, click the Update now link. You will be prompted to Run or Save the Update Assistant file.

From the displayed options, click Run. Your PC will scan the file for viruses. Then, it will display User Account Control (UAC) prompt.

Depending on the browser you are using, the displayed options may look different. I used Microsoft Edge for this demo. If you use Google Chrome, the file will download. To open it, click the arrow beside it (bottom left) – then, select Open – see the second image below.

On the UAC prompt, click Yes. Windows 10 Update Assistant will launch.

To initiate the process to install Windows 10 2004 update manually, on the bottom right of the Update to the latest version of Windows 10 screen, click Update now. Then, wait for the update tool to check your PC for compatibility.

After running compatibility check, it will start downloading Windows 10 update. The download will take a while. You can minimize the Update Assistant and continue using your PC. To re-open the tool, double-slick it on your desktop – see the second screenshot image below.

Finally, you will be prompted to restart your PC immediately or later. The update assistant will also initiate a 30-minute countdown. If you do not select an option, after the count down, your PC will restart and the update will start installing.

To install Windows 10 2004 update manually and immediately, on the bottom right of the Window, click Restart now. You will receive a notification that you are about to be signed out. Close the message.

Once your PC restarts, the update process is automatic, requiring minimal intervention. During the update, your PC will restart several times. When the update is completed, login to your PC and Windows 10 2004 Update would have been installed!

When the update is completed, to confirm that your PC updated successfully, search for winver, then open it.

Winver will display the About Windows 10 on your PC as version 2004!
