For a Homebrew-based setup, install rubyfmt with brew install rubyfmt. The available package listing identifies rubyfmt as a Ruby autoformatter, but it does not establish the formatter’s exact run or check commands. Confirm those in the current upstream project README or the installed executable’s help before adding rubyfmt to a project workflow.
Install rubyfmt with Homebrew
In a shell with Homebrew available, run:
brew install rubyfmtHomebrew Formulae listed rubyfmt version 0.14.1 in a result captured on October 4, 2026. Package versions and platform bottles can change; check the current formula for the version available to you: Homebrew Formulae: rubyfmt.
The project owner’s GitHub profile also identifies a public repository named rubyfmt and describes it as a Ruby autoformatter. For current upstream usage details, start at the rubyfmt repository.
Confirm the installed command before running it
The package listing confirms the Homebrew install command, but the available documentation does not establish rubyfmt’s executable options, Ruby-version requirements, or whether its input should be a file, directory, or project root. Do not assume a conventional formatter command or copy syntax from another tool.

Open the upstream README and any usage documentation linked from the rubyfmt repository.

In the shell where you installed the package, inspect the available executable and use a help or version option only if that option is confirmed by the installed binary’s documentation.

Follow the documented command for formatting and, if supported, checking files. Verify the scope and behavior before using it on project files.
Integrate formatting into the project workflow
Once you have confirmed rubyfmt’s actual CLI, decide which Ruby files the project considers in scope and use the same scope for local formatting and CI checks. A downstream project illustrates one possible pattern: pin a rubyfmt release for its own CI, use project-specific wrappers for formatting and checking, and have CI enforce the defined set of first-party Ruby files. Those wrappers reflect that project’s conventions, not rubyfmt’s upstream command syntax: downstream project example.

Use the upstream documentation to verify whether a non-writing check mode exists before configuring CI around one.
Do not confuse rubyfmt with rfmt
rfmt is a separate Ruby formatter with its own setup and CLI. Its documented instructions include gem install rfmt, rfmt init, and rfmt; those commands are not rubyfmt instructions. See the rfmt repository only if you specifically mean that separate project.
