You cannot run a dedicated DayZ server directly from a PS4 or PS5. PlayStation private servers are rented from a licensed game-server provider and managed in that provider’s web panel or mobile app. Nitrado is the provider most consistently identified for console DayZ hosting. You do not install SteamCMD, edit PC configuration files, or turn your console into a server.
This guide explains the console-only setup, what PS5 and PS4 players can join, which controls you can expect, how billing differs from self-hosting, and what to check when a rented server does not appear or accept connections.
What “hosting a DayZ server” means on PlayStation
On PC, “hosting” can mean installing the dedicated-server software on a machine you own or rent. That is not the console model. DayZ on PS4 and PS5 uses an approved external host: the provider runs the server hardware, network connection, updates and basic service operations, while you rent access and change the settings exposed by its control panel.
The PlayStation itself remains a client. It runs the game and connects to the rented instance; it does not run the dedicated process in the background. Leaving a PS5 or PS4 switched on therefore cannot replace a server subscription.

The provider named most often for console DayZ
Nitrado is the provider most consistently named in descriptions of DayZ console hosting and the Bohemia Interactive console arrangement. Before paying, check the provider’s current DayZ page, PlayStation compatibility, region availability, cancellation terms and renewal price. A third-party site may advertise PS4 or PS5 servers, but an advertisement alone does not establish that it is an authorized console provider or that it can actually provision a DayZ console instance.
PS4, PS5 and cross-play compatibility
Can a PS5 player join a PS4 DayZ server?
Available compatibility information indicates that the PS5 release runs the PS4 version through backward compatibility, so a PS5 player can use a server provisioned for the PS4 console edition. Treat this as a platform-compatibility detail, not as a separate PS5 server software branch: when ordering, select the PlayStation/console DayZ product the provider offers rather than looking for a PC or Xbox product.

Can PlayStation players play with Xbox or PC users?
No. DayZ console servers do not provide cross-play with Xbox or PC. Everyone you intend to play with must be using the PlayStation edition and must be able to access the same rented server. A PC server address, Steam account or Xbox account cannot be used to bring those players into a PlayStation instance.

What your friends need
- A PS4 or PS5 with the PlayStation version of DayZ installed and updated.
- Access to the PlayStation network account required by their console and game.
- The server’s discoverable name or connection details supplied by the host.
- A password, if you set one in the control panel.
- The same platform family: PlayStation players only.
What you need before renting
- A host account: Create an account with the provider you have selected. Use an email address you can keep access to because invoices, password resets and service notices normally go there.
- A payment method: Console servers are a recurring rental. Confirm whether the checkout price is an introductory amount, a recurring amount, tax-inclusive, or region-dependent.
- A player plan: Select the number of simultaneous players and contract period offered for the PlayStation DayZ product. Do not assume that a PC slot plan or a short-term promotion applies to consoles.
- A location: Pick the data-center region that gives your group the best latency, subject to the locations shown at checkout.
- Time for provisioning: The control panel may show the service as installing, stopped or starting before it is ready to find in the game.
How to rent and start a DayZ PlayStation server
Labels differ between providers and can change when their panels are redesigned. The sequence below describes the decisions you must make; use the exact labels shown in your account.
- Open the provider’s DayZ hosting page. Confirm that the product explicitly supports PlayStation, not only PC, Steam or Xbox. Check the supported console generation and the billing currency shown for your country.
- Choose the PlayStation console product. If the provider lists separate editions, select the PS4/PS5-compatible DayZ option. Do not order a PC instance expecting a console client to see it.
- Select capacity and term. Pick the player capacity and billing period that match your group. Record the renewal date and the price that will apply after any introductory period.
- Select a server region. Choose the closest practical location for most players. A geographically distant region can increase latency even when the game and account are configured correctly.
- Complete checkout and create the service. Keep the order confirmation and service identifier. If the order remains pending, wait for the provider’s provisioning status instead of placing duplicate orders.
- Open the web control panel or provider app. The console workflow is panel-based. Sign in with the host account, select the new DayZ service and wait until its status is ready.
- Start the server. Use the panel’s start control. A first launch can take longer than a restart while the service creates its initial data and applies the current server build.
- Set the basic identity and access options that are available. Give the server a distinctive name. If the panel provides a password or other access control, configure it there and share it only with the intended group. Console panels expose fewer settings than PC configuration files, so an option you expect may not exist.
- Apply changes exactly as the panel requests. Some controls take effect immediately; others require a restart. Follow the panel’s save, apply or restart prompt rather than changing several values and assuming they all loaded.
- Join from DayZ on PlayStation. Search for the server name or use the connection method documented in the panel. If the server is password-protected, enter the current password exactly, including capitalization if the game requires it.
- Give friends the final details. Send the name, password and any region or access instructions. Tell them to search from the PlayStation version of DayZ, not from PC or Xbox.
Managing the server after it is online
Use the panel or app, not SteamCMD
Console administration is performed through the provider’s web control panel or mobile app. SteamCMD and the PC DayZ server configuration-file workflow are not part of the PS4/PS5 setup. If a tutorial tells you to download SteamCMD, edit a Windows configuration file or forward ports from your home router, it is describing PC hosting rather than a rented PlayStation server.
Expect a smaller settings surface
Console hosting exposes a reduced subset of the controls available to PC administrators. The exact list depends on the provider and the current DayZ console implementation. You may be able to change basic identity, access and gameplay values that the panel presents, but you cannot assume that every PC variable has a console equivalent.

Mods are generally not available on console
Console DayZ servers generally do not support the PC mod ecosystem. If a provider page or panel does not explicitly offer a console-compatible mod feature, plan a vanilla console server instead of buying on the assumption that Steam Workshop content will work. A modded PC server and a PlayStation server are different products.
Plan restarts and maintenance
Use the panel’s stop, start or restart controls when applying a change that requires it. Warn players before a restart so they can leave safely. For update notices, backup options, scheduled restarts and save-management tools, rely on the features shown for your specific service; their availability is not guaranteed by the console edition itself.
Console hosting cost: what is and is not established
There is no verified monthly price that applies to every PlayStation DayZ server. The total depends on the provider, player capacity, region, billing term, taxes and promotions. A secondhand estimate of roughly €18–€30 per month has circulated, but it was not confirmed against a current primary price page and should not be used as a quote or budget guarantee.

Before checkout, record these figures separately:
- the amount charged today;
- the recurring renewal amount;
- taxes or regional fees;
- any setup or cancellation charge;
- the number of player slots included;
- the billing date and whether the subscription renews automatically.
If the panel shows several currencies or plan lengths, compare the recurring total rather than multiplying a promotional first month. Prices and terms can change, so verify them on the provider’s current page immediately before ordering.

The console route trades low setup overhead for less control and a recurring rental. The PC route is the relevant path only when your intended players are on PC and you are prepared to operate PC server software.

The server does not appear in the browser
- Check the provider panel first: confirm that the service is provisioned and running rather than installing, stopped or restarting.
- Search the exact server name and try a distinctive part of it; names that are common or recently changed can be hard to identify.
- Confirm that the game is updated on the console and that you selected the PlayStation product, not a PC instance.
- Allow time after the first start or a configuration restart before concluding that the service failed.
- Ask the host to check visibility or provisioning if the panel reports running but no PlayStation client can find it.
A friend can see it but cannot join
- Check that the friend is on PS4 or PS5 and is using the PlayStation DayZ edition.
- Re-enter the current password and confirm that you did not change it after sending the original details.
- Verify that the server has not reached its player capacity.
- Have the player restart DayZ after an update or failed connection attempt.
- Confirm that the panel still shows the service as online and that no restart is in progress.
Players on Xbox or PC cannot connect
This is a platform limitation, not a port-forwarding problem. PlayStation console servers do not cross-play with Xbox or PC, so those players need a compatible server in their own ecosystem.

A desired setting or mod is missing
First check whether the panel documents the option for the console product. Console settings are a reduced subset, and PC configuration guides do not add controls that the provider has not exposed. Mods that depend on the PC ecosystem should be treated as unavailable unless the provider explicitly documents a supported console feature.
The service stops or billing looks wrong
- Read the panel’s service status and the provider’s maintenance notices before changing settings.
- Check the account’s renewal date, currency, taxes and payment history.
- Do not create a second service while an order is pending; contact the provider with the original service identifier.
- For a recurring-charge dispute, use the provider’s account and cancellation process and keep the confirmation.
Practical administration and security checklist
- Use a unique password for the hosting account and enable any available account security features.
- Do not post the control-panel login in a public server description or chat.
- Give players the server password separately from administrative credentials.
- Record the server name, service identifier, region, player capacity and renewal date.
- Announce planned restarts and maintenance to the group.
- Keep a short list of the settings you changed so you can restore them after an update or accidental reset.
- Read the provider’s current support and cancellation terms before extending the rental.
When renting is the right answer
Rent a console server when your group wants a persistent PlayStation world without operating a PC, configuring a network or leaving a console running. It is also the only supported approach for a dedicated DayZ instance on PS4 or PS5.
