Short answer: Students do not currently get a permanent Quizlet Plus subscription simply by being students, using a .edu email address, or verifying a student ID. The legitimate no-cost options are a temporary official trial, free Learn and Test access through a teacher-managed class, teacher-created Assignments or Student Passes, and a school or group subscription paid for by someone else.
If you need full account-wide Plus, check whether your school already pays for Quizlet for Schools or whether a family member can invite you to a Quizlet Family plan. If you only need to study one course, a teacher’s class or assignment is usually the best free solution.
Important: The official annual-plan trial is temporary and converts to a paid annual subscription unless you cancel it. Check the renewal date and price before starting it.
Can students get Quizlet Plus free permanently?
As of August 10, 2026, Quizlet’s official pricing and help pages do not show a universal student-only program that gives every verified student permanent Quizlet Plus. A student account, school email address, student ID, or .edu address does not by itself establish eligibility for free Plus.

That does not mean students have no legitimate way to use premium features without personally paying. The important distinction is whether you receive:
- A full account upgrade: a school license, group-order license, or Family plan invitation.
- Set-specific access: unlimited Learn and Test for sets added to a teacher’s class.
- Assignment-specific access: ad-free, unrestricted study for a teacher’s assigned activity.
- Time-limited access: the official seven-day trial or a Student Pass session.
Quizlet’s current official sources describe these options, but not a permanent student-status-only Plus benefit. Prices, features, promotions, and availability can change by country, account, platform, tax, or app store, so use the live Quizlet upgrade page as the final authority.

Option 1: Start Quizlet’s official seven-day trial carefully
Quizlet currently displays a seven-day free trial with an annual plan. It is temporary access, not free Plus forever. After the trial, the selected annual plan starts automatically unless you cancel.
The displayed U.S. annual prices are currently:
- Quizlet Plus: $35.99 per year, shown as approximately $2.99 per month when paid annually.
- Quizlet Plus Unlimited: $44.99 per year, shown as approximately $3.75 per month when paid annually.
- Quizlet Family: $83.99 per year for up to five accounts.
The pricing page says the monthly plan is not eligible for the displayed free trial, and that the trial can be used on only one paid tier: Quizlet Plus or Quizlet Plus Unlimited. Prices and eligibility may vary by region, currency, tax, app store, account, or promotion. Always confirm the amount and renewal date on the checkout screen.
There is also a meaningful difference between the two individual tiers. The current pricing page describes regular Quizlet Plus as having limited monthly access to certain features, including three practice tests, 20 rounds of Learn questions, and three Q&A or textbook solutions per month. Quizlet Plus Unlimited provides complete access to practice tests and unlimited Learn rounds, with access to millions of textbook solutions subject to Quizlet’s stated limits.
How to start the trial
- Sign in to your own Quizlet account.
- Open the official Quizlet upgrade page.
- Select Quizlet Plus or Quizlet Plus Unlimited.
- Proceed only if the checkout page explicitly shows a free trial.
- Read the annual renewal price and the exact trial end date.
- If you do not intend to pay, cancel auto-renewal immediately after enrolling or set a reminder several days before the deadline.
- Save the cancellation confirmation or take a screenshot showing the renewal status.
How to cancel a website trial
If you started the trial on Quizlet’s website:
- Log in to Quizlet.
- Open Settings.
- Select Manage subscription.
- Select Cancel auto-renewal.
- Complete the cancellation questions and save the confirmation.
Quizlet instructs users to cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged. Deleting the app or closing your account is not a substitute for canceling the subscription.
If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play
If the trial began inside the mobile app, the subscription may be controlled by the store rather than Quizlet’s website. Cancel it in the subscription settings for the platform that processed the payment:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If Manage subscription is missing on Quizlet’s website, this is one of the first things to check.
What happens when the trial ends?
When the account returns to the free version, upgraded features become unavailable, but your sets, folders, and classes remain in the account. Uploaded images and recorded audio remain viewable or playable. Premium features added to a set may be removed from terms or definitions that are later edited. Quizlet says Class Progress data can be restored if you upgrade again. See Quizlet’s explanation of content after a paid subscription ends.
If the trial charged you unexpectedly
First identify where the payment was processed. For a website purchase, use Quizlet’s refund-request process. Apple and Google purchases generally require a refund request through the relevant store. For a charge you do not recognize, follow Quizlet’s unauthorized-charge guidance.

Option 2: Join your teacher’s Quizlet class
For most students who need ongoing access to one subject, a teacher-managed class is the most useful genuinely free option. Quizlet says students in an eligible teacher-managed class can receive:
Recommended Free Tools
- Unlimited access to Learn for sets added to the class.
- Unlimited access to Test for those class sets.
- Ad-free studying for the class materials.
This does not upgrade the entire student account to Quizlet Plus. The benefit applies to sets that the teacher has added to the class, and the student must access the set through the class page.
Quizlet’s documentation describes this as a class feature managed through a teacher account. It does not say that the teacher must personally buy Quizlet Plus for students to receive the class-based Learn and Test access. The safe wording is: a teacher-managed class can provide free Learn and Test access for its class sets; a teacher’s personal Plus subscription does not automatically give every student full account-wide Plus.
What the teacher needs to do
- Create or use a teacher account.
- Create a class using Quizlet’s Create a class workflow.
- Create or find the relevant study set.
- Add the set to the class from the class page.
- Invite the student.
- Confirm that the student appears on the class’s Members page.
Teacher instructions are available in Quizlet’s guides for creating a class and adding sets to a class.
What the student needs to do
- Accept the class invitation while signed in to the correct Quizlet account.
- Open the class page.
- Open the study set from that class page.
- Select Learn or Test.
Do not open the set from a normal search result, the home page, a bookmark, or your personal library if Learn or Test is locked. Quizlet may show a paywall when the same set is opened outside the teacher’s class context. If that happens, confirm that you are listed as a class member, the teacher attached the exact set to the class, and you opened it from the class page.
Option 3: Ask your teacher for an Assignment
A teacher-created Quizlet Assignment can provide free studying without ads and without study limits for the assigned activity. Available assigned modes include:
- Learn
- Flashcards
- Test
- Match
Assignments can be joined through a link or passcode, and Quizlet says students may participate without logging in.
How a teacher creates an Assignment
- Open a Quizlet study set.
- Select Assign activity.
- Choose the set and study mode.
- Set the assignment’s start and end dates.
- Share the link, passcode, or QR code with students.
Students then open the shared link or enter the passcode. See Quizlet’s Assignment instructions.
An Assignment is not account-wide Plus. Access ends or changes when the assignment’s dates, set, or selected activity no longer applies. It is best for a particular lesson, homework task, or exam review—not for unlocking every Quizlet set.

Student Pass activation is available through the website rather than directly inside the Quizlet mobile app. Quizlet says an identified teacher account can start up to seven Student Pass sessions per day, with up to 100 students per session. It also says the feature is available to teachers in the United States and selected international markets, so availability may depend on location. See Quizlet’s Student Pass documentation.
Option 5: Check whether your school already pays for Quizlet
If you need full Plus for a semester or year, ask whether your school, district, department, or course has already purchased student licenses. You may receive a full upgrade without paying personally.
Quizlet for Schools
Quizlet for Schools can provide upgraded access such as premium study modes, Expert Solutions, AI-powered Study Guides, and ad-free accounts. Quizlet says each account in the school subscription receives the applicable Quizlet Plus or Quizlet Plus for teachers access for one year from the purchase date. School subscriptions do not automatically renew.

- Select the invitation link.

- Select Activate upgrade.
Use the same email address that received the invitation. Quizlet’s instructions are available in Joining a Quizlet for Schools subscription.
Group orders
A teacher, department, school, or other organization can purchase discounted Quizlet subscription credits and distribute them to students. After the purchase:
- The purchaser receives a unique activation link.
- Students request access through that link.
- The group administrator approves users.
- The approved student activates the license on their own account.
- The license remains active for the group-order period and does not automatically renew.
See Quizlet’s instructions for activating a group-order upgrade and the group-upgrade page.
Who to ask at school
Contact your teacher first, then try:
- The school library.
- Your subject department office.
- The academic-success or tutoring center.
- The instructional technology coordinator.
- The district educational-technology administrator.
- The person who manages textbook or courseware purchases.
Ask this specific question: “Does our school or course already have Quizlet for Schools, a group order, or a teacher-created class or assignment?”
Option 6: Join a Family plan
A Family plan is not a free student benefit, but it can be a legitimate lower-cost alternative if a parent, guardian, or family member is willing to pay. Quizlet says the plan manager can invite up to four additional members. Each member keeps an individual account, flashcards, and progress.
The current U.S. upgrade page displays the annual Family price as $83.99. If all five places are used, that works out to approximately $16.80 per person per year, or about $1.40 per person per month on the annualized display. Confirm the current price before purchasing because prices vary by market and can change.
Use the Family plan rather than sharing one person’s username and password. A Family invitation is supported account access; ordinary password sharing is not.

What you can still do with free Quizlet
If none of the options above is available, a free Quizlet account still supports basic study:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Flashcards and sets: Quizlet describes its basic flashcard maker as free for creating, studying, and sharing sets. You can also search for sets made by other users. See Quizlet’s flashcard feature page.
- Learn: Non-subscribers can start a free Learn session, although access is more limited than with a paid plan. See Learn mode details.
- Test: Non-subscribers can take one free practice test per flashcard set. See Test mode details.
- Expert Solutions: Standard high-school-level Expert Solutions are free for students and teachers. Non-subscribers can study a limited number of solutions per college-level textbook, while college-prep and higher-education access generally requires Plus. See Quizlet’s Expert Solutions guidance.
- Study Guides: Non-subscribers can generate Study Guides with limited access. Full access is associated with Plus or Plus for teachers and is subject to language, age, and geography requirements. See Study Guides access details.
What not to do
Do not rely on a supposed .edu discount
Quizlet’s official pages do not establish that a .edu address or student verification automatically unlocks Plus. Treat third-party claims about a “Quizlet student discount” as unverified unless the offer appears on an official Quizlet checkout or help page. Do not enter your Quizlet password into a discount website simply because it asks for a school email.
Do not pretend to be a teacher
Students should not create a fake teacher account or misrepresent their role to obtain teacher-only benefits. Quizlet’s Terms of Service prohibit impersonating another user or entity, using another user’s account or password, permitting unauthorized third-party access, and attempting to circumvent security technology.
Do not use cracked apps or “Plus unlock” websites
Modified apps, browser hacks, “unlimited Plus” generators, and websites offering free account upgrades can steal Quizlet credentials, install malware, trigger unauthorized charges, or lead to account suspension. They may also violate Quizlet’s terms and copyright rules.
Do not create repeated accounts to restart trials
The official pricing page says the free trial can be used on only one paid tier. Creating multiple accounts to evade that restriction is not a legitimate method and may violate Quizlet’s rules.
Troubleshooting common problems
“I joined the class, but Learn is still locked.”
- Make sure you are logged in.
- Ask the teacher to confirm that you appear on the class’s Members page.
- Confirm that the teacher added the exact study set to the class.
- Open the set from the class page, not from search, a bookmark, or your personal library.
- Ask whether the class is managed by a teacher account with the required administrative permissions.
These checks follow Quizlet’s free student access guidance.
“The teacher’s link works, but the app shows a paywall.”
Open the link in a web browser first. Student Pass activation is website-based, and some teacher controls are also available only on the website. If the web version works but the app does not, use the browser for that activity or update and sign in to the app with the same account.
“I cannot find Manage subscription.”
You may have started the trial through Apple or Google Play. Check the subscription controls in the store that processed the payment rather than relying on Quizlet’s website.
“I was charged after the trial.”
- Check the receipt, renewal date, and payment platform.
- For a Quizlet website purchase, submit Quizlet’s refund request.
- For an Apple or Google purchase, request the refund through that store.
- Cancel auto-renewal immediately so another renewal does not occur while the request is reviewed.
Refund approval depends on the purchase details, so a request is not a guarantee of reimbursement.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →“My school invitation does not work.”
- Confirm that the invitation went to the correct email address.
- Sign in with that same email address.
- Check whether the invitation expired or was already used.
- If it came through a group-order activation link, check whether the administrator approved your request.
“I am under 13.”
Quizlet says users under 13—or users under an older local age threshold where required—may need to sign up with a parent’s email address and may have restricted account features. Some locations require parental confirmation before creating or editing sets or accessing written practice questions. Review the younger-user guidance and Quizlet’s Terms of Service before creating an account.

What about Quizlet’s free teacher offer?
Quizlet currently has an official help page describing a free year of Quizlet Plus for teachers who qualify through verification, potentially using a school-issued email address and additional documentation. This is a teacher offer, not a student discount. Students cannot claim it merely because they attend school.
There is a timing inconsistency to keep in mind: Quizlet’s January 13, 2026 announcement described the U.S. promotion as having a January 31, 2026 sign-up deadline, while the current teacher-offer help page still describes the offer without displaying that deadline. Teachers should check the live verification page before assuming they qualify.
If a teacher qualifies, they may be able to use their teacher account to provide free class activities, Assignments, or Student Pass sessions. That still does not turn every student account into a full Plus account.

Quick decision guide
| What you need | Try this first | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Access today for one exam | Check the official trial, then ask for a Student Pass or Assignment | The trial provides temporary full-tier access; the teacher options avoid a personal subscription |
| Repeated practice for one course | Ask the teacher to create a class and add the relevant sets | Class members can receive unlimited Learn and Test for those class sets |
| Full Plus for a semester or year | Ask about Quizlet for Schools or a group order | A school-paid license can provide account-wide access for its license period |
| Lowest legitimate household cost | Use a Family plan invitation | Each member gets an individual account, but someone must pay |
| Basic memorization only | Stay on the free plan | Flashcards, limited Learn, one free Test per set, and some free Expert Solutions may be enough |
When contacting a teacher or school administrator, use a specific request: “Could you check whether our class has Quizlet for Schools, a group-order license, a Quizlet class, an Assignment, or a Student Pass?” That is more likely to produce a useful answer than asking generally for “free Plus.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a .edu email address give students free Quizlet Plus?
No automatic student-only benefit is established by Quizlet’s current official pricing and help pages. A .edu address may be used for an institution’s invitation or teacher verification, but it does not by itself unlock permanent Quizlet Plus.
Does joining a Quizlet class upgrade my whole account?
No. A teacher-managed class can provide unlimited Learn and Test access for sets added to that class, but the access is tied to those class materials. Open the set through the class page rather than through search or your personal library.
Can I use the Quizlet free trial without being charged?
Yes, if the checkout page offers the trial and you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. The displayed trial is tied to an annual plan and converts to a paid annual subscription unless canceled.
What is the difference between Quizlet Plus and Plus Unlimited?
The current pricing page describes Quizlet Plus as having monthly limits on some features, including practice tests and Learn rounds. Plus Unlimited provides complete practice-test access and unlimited Learn rounds, subject to Quizlet’s stated limits and availability.
Can I share a friend’s Quizlet Plus login?
Quizlet accounts are intended for individual use, and its Terms of Service prohibit sharing another user’s account or password. Use a Family plan, school license, group order, class, Assignment, or Student Pass instead.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: You cannot generally get permanent Quizlet Plus just by proving that you are a student. For a short-term need, use the official annual-plan trial only after recording the renewal date and canceling safely. For one course, ask your teacher for a class, Assignment, or Student Pass. For full account-wide access, check for a school or group license or use a legitimate Family plan invitation. Otherwise, Quizlet’s free flashcards, limited Learn mode, one free Test per set, and available free Expert Solutions remain usable alternatives.
