If Instagram will not load in Chrome, first check whether other websites work. If several sites fail, troubleshoot your internet connection; if Instagram alone is affected, reload it and open it in an Incognito window. That quick comparison helps distinguish a connection problem from an issue with your regular Chrome profile.
Check whether the problem is Instagram or your connection
- Open another website. If multiple websites fail to load, check that your computer is connected to Wi-Fi or Ethernet and that the network is working. If you use a network sign-in portal, make sure you have completed its sign-in.
- If the connection seems stuck, restart your modem or router. Do this only if you can safely access the equipment and are able to reconnect afterward.
- If other websites load, check Instagram’s address and reload the page. A typo or a temporary loading failure can look like a browser problem.
Google’s Chrome connection and loading troubleshooting guide recommends checking the URL, reloading, and checking the internet connection before moving on to browser-specific fixes.
Use Incognito to test your normal Chrome profile
Open Instagram in a Chrome Incognito window. If it works there but not in your regular window, the issue is more likely tied to your usual Chrome profile—for example, an extension or stored browsing data—than to the basic connection.

Incognito is a diagnostic test, not a permanent fix. If Instagram still fails there, continue with the connection, browser, and service checks below.

Disable extensions and identify conflicts
An extension may interfere with page loading. Turn off extensions temporarily and test Instagram again in a regular Chrome window. If that fixes the problem, re-enable extensions one at a time, testing Instagram after each change, until the conflict returns.
Google’s guidance is: “If this solves your connection error or loading issue, re-enable your extensions one at a time to identify which extension is causing the problem.” Google Chrome Help offers the same isolation approach.

Update and restart Chrome
Chrome regularly checks for updates. Google says an available update is applied after Chrome is closed and reopened; if the browser has not been relaunched in a while, you may need to update it manually. Save anything important, close Chrome, reopen it, and try Instagram again. For Google’s update guidance, see How to Update Chrome to the Latest Version.
Clear Instagram’s stored browsing data
If Instagram works in Incognito but still fails in your regular profile after you check extensions, stored cookies or cached files may be involved. Clear the relevant browsing data in Chrome, then reload Instagram.

Clearing cookies can sign you out of websites. Before deleting them, make sure you know how to sign back in; do not proceed if you cannot access the account’s sign-in method or recovery options.
Check device security and available memory
- Firewall or antivirus: Security software or device settings can affect a connection. Review whether a recent setting or change could be blocking Chrome, and avoid disabling protection broadly just to test one site.
- Memory use: Close unused tabs and other applications, then try loading Instagram again.
- Website availability: A site may be temporarily unavailable or undergoing maintenance. These checks alone cannot establish whether Instagram is currently down.
Google lists device settings and software, browser data and extensions, memory use, the network, and website downtime or maintenance among possible causes of Chrome loading problems. Its troubleshooting guide places resetting Chrome settings after simpler checks; consider a reset only if the earlier steps have not helped.

If Instagram still does not work
- Try Instagram in a different browser to see whether the problem is limited to Chrome.
- If the issue follows your account across browsers or devices, use Instagram’s official Help Center or account-recovery route for login trouble or possible account restrictions. Do not give your password to third-party recovery services.
- If only Chrome is affected after the earlier checks, consider Google’s Chrome settings reset as a later troubleshooting step.
