Fix a DayZ BattlEye kick by first preserving the complete kick message and hexadecimal code, then follow the branch it identifies: repair the BattlEye client service or update path, stabilize a timed-out connection, correct the game branch or files, repair mod signatures, inspect server and RCon logs, or contact BattlEye for a global ban. Changing random settings can hide the cause, so treat a service failure, timeout, signature mismatch, administrator kick and global ban as different problems.
Identify the exact kick before changing anything
Write down the entire BattlEye line exactly as it appears. Include any hexadecimal DayZ code, the named PBO or mod file, whether the kick happened during connection or after you had been playing, and whether an administrator had just acted on the server. A screenshot is useful, but copyable text is better for comparing logs.

A missing .bisign file is a specific documented reason for a signature kick, not evidence by itself that the player was cheating. The wording and timing determine which repair path is appropriate.

Use this order of operations
- Capture the message and code. Do not rely on a paraphrase such as “BattlEye kicked me.” Record the exact category, file name and timing.
- Match the client to the server branch. Confirm whether the server runs Stable or Experimental and select that branch in Steam.
- Verify local files. In Steam, open the DayZ library entry, choose Properties, open Installed Files and run the file-integrity check. Recheck after Steam repairs or redownloads files.
- Repair update and service access. Permit the BattlEye launcher and service through security software, then retry the launch.
- Test the connection branch. If the message says the client is not responding or the kick follows a timeout, remove network and security filters from the diagnosis.
- Check content and signatures. For a PBO, mod or signature error, compare the server’s mod list and signed files with the client’s installation.
- For administrators, enable and read logs. Inspect the profile directory, BattlEye logs and RCon records around the kick.
- Escalate a global ban to BattlEye. Do not ask a server host or Bohemia Interactive to remove an enforcement they do not administer.
Repair the DayZ branch and local files
Select the same Stable or Experimental branch
DayZ clients and servers must use compatible builds. A player on Experimental can be rejected by a Stable server, and the reverse can also occur. In Steam, open DayZ’s Properties, use the Betas section to select the branch required by the server, allow Steam to finish downloading, then restart the game.

If you do not control the server, ask its administrator which branch is active rather than guessing from the server name. After changing branches, wait for Steam to complete the download before connecting; launching while the update is incomplete can produce a misleading version or content error.
Verify the Steam installation
Run Steam’s installed-file verification when the error names a damaged file, follows an interrupted update, or persists after a branch change. BattlEye distributes current client and server files with the game, so a cache or file-integrity check is the normal way to replace a faulty or corrupt download.

Close DayZ first. Let Steam complete the check and any replacement downloads, then launch once without adding new mods. If the check repeatedly replaces the same files, note the file names and investigate disk, permission or security-software interference instead of repeatedly reconnecting.
Fix “Update failed” and BattlEye service startup errors
Restore update access
BattlEye must be able to download updates before the game launches. An “Update failed” message commonly means that the launcher cannot reach its update service because internet access is restricted or a firewall, antivirus or endpoint-control product is blocking it.
- Confirm that ordinary internet access works on the same computer.
- Temporarily remove only the suspected network or security block for a controlled test; restore protection immediately after testing.
- Create an allow rule for the BattlEye launcher rather than allowing every executable or opening unrelated ports.
- After the rule is saved, exit Steam completely, reopen it and retry DayZ so the launcher starts a fresh update check.
Allow the BattlEye service executables
Service-installation and service-startup failures require access for BEService.exe and, on 64-bit installations, BEService_x64.exe. Check both the firewall and antivirus or endpoint-security exception lists. An exception that covers only the game executable will not necessarily cover the BattlEye service.

Also check that your Windows account can create and start a service in the BattlEye service directory. If the launcher reports that the service cannot be installed or started, close DayZ and Steam, run the repair or launch once with the required administrative permission, and retry. Avoid downloading replacement service files from unofficial sites; the game distribution supplies the current client and server files.
Recreate a damaged service installation
If permissions and security exceptions are correct but the service still will not install or start, BattlEye’s documented recovery is to remove the BattlEye service directory so the launcher can recreate it. Close Steam and DayZ first, delete only that BattlEye service directory, then start the game again and allow the launcher to rebuild it. If Windows refuses the deletion, use an administrator account or correct the directory permissions rather than deleting unrelated game folders.
Handle “Client not responding” and timeout kicks
“Client not responding” does not automatically indicate a modified file. BattlEye describes this condition as occurring when the server or client connection times out for a long period or breaks completely. Treat it as a connection problem first, especially when you can join successfully and are kicked later.
Stabilize the local path
- Test the same server after reconnecting your network and stopping large downloads or uploads.
- Restart the router or modem and check whether its firmware is current.
- Prefer a wired connection for a test if Wi-Fi signal quality is uncertain.
- Check whether VPNs, traffic shapers, overlays, parental-control filters or endpoint security are interrupting long-lived game connections.
- Try another DayZ server. If several servers fail in the same way, the client or local network is more likely; if one server fails while others remain stable, report the pattern to that administrator.
Do not interpret a single timeout as proof of a global ban. A ban is a separate enforcement category and should be handled through BattlEye’s support process.
Resolve PBO, mod and signature kicks
Read the named file and category
A kick that names a PBO, mod or signature file points to content validation. Preserve the exact path or file name. A missing .bisign is explicitly recognized as a signature failure, so the fix is to correct the signed content rather than disable anti-cheat checks on a server.

Check the server’s mod list
- Compare the server’s required mod list with the client’s enabled mods, including spelling and load order where the administrator specifies one.
- Remove an obsolete local copy of a mod and let the approved distribution download it again.
- Confirm that the client and server use the same DayZ branch and compatible mod versions.
- On a server you administer, verify that every required PBO has the corresponding signed content and key files expected by the server.
- Restart the server after replacing content, then test with an unmodified client before adding optional mods back.
Do not copy a signature from an unrelated version or rename files to conceal a mismatch. A signature is tied to the content it validates; mismatched files will continue to fail even if the names look correct.
Separate a local problem from a server problem
If only one player receives the signature kick, have that player verify files and redownload the affected mod. If every player is rejected for the same PBO or signature, the server’s content, key set or branch is the stronger suspect. The administrator should compare the deployed files with the server’s intended mod release and inspect the kick log at the same timestamp.
Configure logging on a DayZ server
Server owners need logs to distinguish an anti-cheat detection from an administrator command, a failed query or a content mismatch. Bohemia documents BEServer_x64.cfg beside BEServer_x64.dll. The location can be changed with the -bePath and -profiles launch options.
Choose a predictable profile and BattlEye path
Use -profiles to place the server profile directory where administrators can back it up and inspect it. Use -bePath when BattlEye files need to live in a separate, controlled directory. Keep the paths consistent between restarts; otherwise an administrator may inspect an old log directory while the running instance writes to another one.

The documented launch options include:
-doLogsfor server logging.-adminLogfor administrator activity.-netLogfor network-related records.
The profile directory receives the server logs as well as BattlEye, BEC and RCon files. Record the server start time and the player’s kick time, then inspect the narrow interval around the event. Look for a matching player name, GUID or message rather than assuming that the last line in a large file is the cause.

Protect and rotate logs
Keep copies before clearing or rotating logs, particularly when a player disputes a ban or an administrator kick. Restrict write access to the BattlEye and profile directories to the service account and trusted administrators. A clean log after a restart cannot explain an earlier event, so preserve the original file first.
Verify RCon settings and administrator actions
BattlEye RCon is separate from the game connection. The server configuration uses RConPort and RConPassword; the RCon port must not be confused with the ports used by players to join the game. A wrong port or password can make administration appear broken while the game itself is functioning.

If the player is kicked immediately after an administrator action, inspect RCon and administrator logs before changing client files. A server owner should tell the player whether the action was a manual kick, a server ban or an automatic BattlEye event; those have different appeal paths.
Protect RConPassword, limit access to the RCon port and avoid sharing credentials in chat or support tickets. When an RCon command does not appear in logs, verify that the administrator connected to the configured RCon port and that the running instance is using the expected profile and BattlEye path.
What to do about a “Global Ban”
A BattlEye global ban is not the same as a kick from one DayZ server. Bohemia Interactive states that BattlEye administers its banning system and that Bohemia has no involvement in detecting cheats or administering those bans. Consequently, a server owner cannot remove a BattlEye global ban, and reinstalling DayZ or changing a server’s RCon ban list will not revoke it.

- Save the exact global-ban text, account details requested by BattlEye and the date and server where it appeared.
- Contact BattlEye through its official support channel and follow its appeal instructions.
- Do not send passwords, purchase receipts or other sensitive data to an individual server administrator unless the official support process specifically requests it.
The DayZ server browser can filter for servers where BattlEye is not required. That only changes which servers are shown; it does not reverse the global enforcement, and each server still applies its own rules and moderation.
When the same error keeps returning
It returns after every file verification
Check whether security software is quarantining or restoring a BattlEye file, whether Steam has permission to write to the library, and whether the selected branch is changing the expected files. Note the repeated file name and give it to the server administrator or BattlEye support rather than repeatedly deleting random folders.
Only one modded server fails
Compare that server’s branch, mod list, signatures and required keys with another server that uses the same mod set. The administrator should verify the deployed files and restart after correcting them. A clean connection to other servers makes a global client failure less likely.
Every server fails with a timeout
Return to the network branch: test a different connection, inspect router firmware, disable conflicting filters for a controlled test and check whether endpoint security is interrupting BattlEye traffic. Capture timestamps and affected servers so the pattern can be reproduced.
The administrator says “BattlEye banned you,” but the message is different
Ask for the exact text and log category. A local RCon kick, a server ban, a signature rejection and a global ban are separate events. The message determines whether the next contact should be the server administrator, your network or security provider, or BattlEye.
Client, server or BattlEye: choose the right contact

Provide the exact message, hexadecimal code, branch, server name, approximate UTC time, relevant mod or PBO name and the steps already tried. That evidence lets the recipient investigate the correct layer without asking you to repeat unrelated repairs.
