SoundCloud offers two different ways to save music, and they produce different results:
- Web download: downloads the uploader’s original file, if the uploader has enabled downloads.
- Offline listening: saves eligible tracks inside the SoundCloud mobile app for Go or Go+ subscribers. It does not create an MP3 file you can copy elsewhere.
If you need an actual file, use SoundCloud’s web download file button. If you only need playback without an internet connection, use the app’s offline feature.
Download an individual SoundCloud track from the web
SoundCloud’s official file-download process works for individual tracks and requires the uploader to allow downloads. SoundCloud says this feature is not available for every track.
- Open SoundCloud in a web browser and sign in.
- Open the individual track you want to save.
- Look beneath the waveform for the download file button.
- Click the button and choose a save location if your browser asks where to store the file.
The downloaded file is supplied in the original format uploaded by the creator. It might be an MP3, but it could also be another format. SoundCloud’s download button does not promise MP3 output and does not convert the file to MP3.

What if there is no download button?
There is no official web-file download for that track if the download file control is missing. The uploader controls whether listeners can download the track, so signing in, changing browsers, or subscribing to Go does not necessarily make the button appear.
SoundCloud’s official web download also applies to individual tracks—not an entire playlist. A playlist must be handled track by track, and only tracks with an available download control can be saved as files.
Use SoundCloud Go or Go+ for offline listening
Go and Go+ subscribers can save eligible content for offline playback in the SoundCloud mobile app. This is useful on flights or when you want to reduce mobile-data use, but it is not an MP3 export.
Offline tracks are temporarily stored inside the SoundCloud app. They are not presented as ordinary audio files that you can open in a file manager, transfer to another music player, or edit. Signing out and back in, or uninstalling the app, removes saved offline content.
Save liked tracks for offline listening
- Open the SoundCloud app.
- Go to Library → Likes.
- Tap the download button.
Save a playlist for offline listening
- Open Library.
- Select the playlist.
- Tap the download button—the small arrow shown next to the heart.
Automatically download your library
To have SoundCloud save eligible library content automatically, open Settings → Downloads and enable Download automatically.

If you want downloads restricted to Wi-Fi, enable Only download via Wi-Fi in Settings. This prevents offline downloads over cellular data such as LTE, 4G, or 5G.
Remove offline downloads
To clear the app’s saved offline content, open Settings → Storage → Remove all downloads.
Choose high-quality offline audio in Go+
On iOS, Go+ users can open Library → three dots → Settings → Downloads and enable Download high quality audio, where the option is available.
SoundCloud identifies its high-quality format as 256 kbps AAC. It describes this as comparable in quality to a 320 kbps MP3, but AAC is not MP3. The offline audio therefore should not be treated as an MP3 file.
High-quality transcoding is available only for eligible Go+ content and depends on the source supplied by the uploader. SoundCloud lists lossless source formats such as .wav, .flac, .alac, and .aiff as requirements for this high-quality processing.

Why a SoundCloud offline download may not work

Is SoundCloud Go a way to download MP3s?
No. Go and Go+ provide app-managed offline listening. The saved audio remains inside SoundCloud rather than becoming an MP3 you own or can export.
The official web download is different: it gives you the creator’s original uploaded file when the track has a download file button. Even that method does not guarantee MP3 format.
Can you download SoundCloud songs on a phone?
SoundCloud’s official help documentation says a track cannot be downloaded as a file from a mobile device. For an actual file download, use SoundCloud on the web from a desktop computer when the uploader has enabled downloads.
On a phone, Go or Go+ subscribers can instead use the SoundCloud app’s offline-listening controls. Those saved tracks are for playback within the app, not for extracting as audio files.
Respect the creator’s download settings
Use the official download control only for tracks where the uploader has made a file available, and follow any license or usage terms attached to the recording. Avoid third-party “SoundCloud to MP3” services that claim to bypass a missing download button. They are not part of SoundCloud’s documented download workflow, and converting or redistributing a track may violate the creator’s rights or SoundCloud’s terms.

How do I download a song from SoundCloud as a file?
Sign in to SoundCloud on the web, open the track, and click the “download file” button beneath the waveform. The button appears only when the uploader has enabled downloads.
Are SoundCloud downloads MP3 files?
Not necessarily. The web download supplies the uploader’s original file format, which may be MP3 or another format. SoundCloud does not automatically convert it to MP3.

Why is my SoundCloud offline download stuck?
