To delete Meta AI activity, handle each type of information separately: request a copy of your WhatsApp Meta AI history first if you want one, delete the individual conversation in WhatsApp, and check saved AI memories separately if that feature is available to your account. Facebook Activity Log manages Facebook activity; it is not a universal Meta AI history or memory-clearing control.
First, identify what you want to remove
“Meta AI activity” can refer to different things: a visible conversation, information the assistant may have saved as a memory, a copy of your WhatsApp chat history, or other activity associated with your Facebook account. The available controls are not interchangeable. Deleting a chat should not be treated as proof that saved details or every other account record have also been removed.
Start by asking what outcome you want. If you want a conversation gone from your WhatsApp chat list, look for the option to delete that individual Meta AI chat. If you want information you previously shared with Meta AI addressed separately, look for the distinct request to delete that information. If you want to inspect details Meta AI may have saved for personalization, check whether memory controls are available in your account. If what concerns you is a Facebook search or another Facebook action, Activity Log is the relevant Facebook tool. And if you may need a record of your WhatsApp AI conversations, request the history download before deleting the chat or your WhatsApp account.

These options answer different questions: “Can I still see this conversation?”, “Can I get a copy?”, “Did the assistant save a detail for future personalization?”, and “What activity is recorded on Facebook?” Choose the control based on the question, and do not assume one action accomplishes all the others.

Download WhatsApp Meta AI history before deleting it
If you want to keep a copy of your WhatsApp Meta AI history, make the request before removing the conversation or deleting your WhatsApp account. WhatsApp Help Center’s instructions say that once either deletion has happened, you can no longer request or download that history. This makes the order important: request the download first, then decide which removal controls to use.
- Open the WhatsApp chat with Meta AI.
- In the message field, type
/download-all-ai-infoand send it to request your Meta AI chat-history data. - Follow the in-app response to complete the request and retrieve the available data.
- After you have made any copy you need, continue to the chat-deletion or information-deletion control that matches your goal.
The command is for WhatsApp. The Help Center page titled “How to download your Meta AI chat history” documents this method; it does not establish the same command or download process for Messenger, Instagram, or Facebook. Do not substitute this command for deleting a chat: it requests a copy of history rather than removing a conversation.
There are two deletion events that can close off this download route: deleting the Meta AI chat and deleting the WhatsApp account. If you are considering either action and think you might later need the history, request it first. If you have already deleted the chat or account, WhatsApp’s stated instructions say that you cannot request or download that history afterward.

WhatsApp Help Center says you can delete individual Meta AI chats. Find the conversation in the current in-app chat list and use its delete option. The exact sequence of taps can vary by device, app version, and account; the available official guidance does not establish one universal device-independent path.
- Open WhatsApp and locate the Meta AI conversation you want to remove in your chat list.
- Open the conversation’s available chat options and choose the delete action.
- Review the confirmation shown in your version of the app before confirming.
This removes the selected conversation from the chat list through the chat-management control. WhatsApp’s guidance treats that separately from requesting deletion of information previously shared with Meta AI. If your aim is to address information the assistant may have retained, look for the separate information-deletion option as well; do not assume deleting the visible conversation completes both tasks.
WhatsApp also describes chats organized and saved by topic. That organization can help you find a conversation to manage, but it does not change the distinction between deleting a chat and requesting deletion of previously shared information. When looking for the conversation, use the current interface and its chat-management options rather than relying on a sequence of taps described for a different phone or app version.
Before confirming, make sure you have selected the intended Meta AI conversation. If your aim is only to remove a particular conversation from view, the individual-chat option is the action described for that purpose. If you also want a copy, stop and request the download before deleting. If you also want to address a saved detail, separately inspect memory controls where available. These are separate checks, not stages that WhatsApp says are automatically bundled together.

Request deletion of information previously shared with Meta AI
WhatsApp’s current help information distinguishes deleting an individual chat from requesting deletion of information previously shared with Meta AI. That wording matters if your concern is not simply the conversation’s presence in your list but the information you sent to the assistant. Treat the request as its own action rather than assuming chat deletion sends it automatically.
Use the current in-app option or instructions associated with the request to delete previously shared information, if it is available to you. The official instructions summarized here do not establish a single universal sequence of taps for every device, account, or region, so avoid following guessed menu names or assuming a command works everywhere. Check what the app actually offers in your account.
The distinction also affects what you should expect to confirm. A chat deletion addresses a selected conversation through chat management. A separate information-deletion request addresses previously shared information through the relevant control. The official pages do not establish a universal retention period or say that either action instantly removes every retained copy. Use the control for the specific goal you have, but do not infer an unprovided timeline or broader guarantee.
Check saved AI memories separately
Meta announced a memory feature in January 2025 that allowed Meta AI to remember certain details shared in one-to-one conversations and let users delete saved memories. The announcement said group chats were not included in that memory behavior. Memory was being rolled out gradually, so availability and controls may differ by account, app, and location; the announcement’s initial rollout scope was the United States and Canada on iOS and Android for Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp.

The January 2025 announcement does not establish that the same memory interface is available to every user today, nor does it describe one universal menu path.
Meta’s January 2025 announcement put the distinction this way: “Meta AI will only remember certain things you tell it in 1:1 conversations (not group chats), and you can delete its memories at any time.” That statement describes the feature and rollout Meta announced at that time; it is not a guarantee that memory is enabled on every account or in every region.
In practical terms, a one-to-one exchange is the type of conversation covered by the memory behavior Meta described; a group chat was explicitly excluded in that announcement. This does not mean every detail from a one-to-one conversation is necessarily saved. Meta said the assistant remembered certain things, not that it stored every message as a memory. If you are checking what the assistant may use for personalization, inspect memory controls themselves instead of trying to infer saved details from the chat list.

Memory also differs from a history download. The WhatsApp download command requests chat-history data; the memory controls described by Meta let users delete saved details. A downloaded conversation is not presented as a way to inspect or erase a memory, and deleting a memory is not described as downloading or removing the full chat. Keep the intended outcome clear when choosing a control.
Use Facebook Activity Log for Facebook activity
Facebook Activity Log is a separate place to review and manage Facebook activity. Facebook Help Center describes it as covering activity such as searches and content. Use it when your goal is to review or manage activity associated with Facebook, rather than to remove a particular Meta AI conversation or saved AI memory.
- Open Facebook’s Activity Log from the account’s activity-management controls.
- Review the activity categories relevant to your goal, such as searches or content.
- Use the available controls for the specific activity or content you want to manage.
Facebook’s Help Center also points to tools for accessing or downloading information and to off-Meta activity controls. Those are distinct from Meta AI chat management. An item appearing privately in Activity Log should not be described as deleted simply because it is no longer visible elsewhere on Facebook.
The scope is important: Activity Log is about Facebook activity and content. It is not presented as a universal dashboard for every Meta AI chat across WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook, nor as a single place to clear all AI memories. If your goal concerns a WhatsApp Meta AI conversation, use WhatsApp’s chat-management controls. If your goal concerns a saved AI memory, check the memory controls where they appear. If your goal concerns Facebook activity, use Activity Log for the relevant Facebook item.
Facebook Help Center also refers to accessing or downloading information about activity in Facebook groups and to off-Meta activity controls. Those tools can be relevant when your question is about those respective activity categories, but they should not be confused with an AI chat-history download or an AI memory deletion request. An activity item may appear in a private log; privacy in the log is not itself evidence that the item has been erased.
What about the older /reset-ai command?
In a September 2023 announcement, Meta described /reset-ai as a command for deleting information shared in an AI chat across Messenger, Instagram, or WhatsApp. That documentation predates WhatsApp’s newer pages for managing Meta AI chats and requesting history downloads. Treat the command as previously documented, not as a guaranteed current instruction: verify whether your app accepts it before relying on it, and use the current controls shown in your account.
Do not confuse /reset-ai with /download-all-ai-info. Meta’s 2023 announcement described the former as a deletion command; WhatsApp’s current history-download instructions use the latter to request a copy. The commands have different stated purposes and come from different documentation dates. The older announcement named Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp, but that is not proof that the command remains available in every current app or account.

If the command is not accepted, do not assume that your request succeeded. Check the current help information and controls in the relevant app instead. The 2023 statement is useful context for what Meta had documented then, not a universal current menu path or confirmation of present-day support.

The official guidance described here supports specific actions: deleting an individual WhatsApp Meta AI chat, requesting deletion of information previously shared with Meta AI, managing saved memories where available, and managing Facebook activity through Activity Log. It does not establish a universal post-deletion retention period or prove that every retained copy disappears immediately after a user action. Avoid interpreting removal from a chat list as confirmation that every kind of saved or account activity has been cleared.
It is also useful to separate three kinds of certainty. First, there is the control the app says you can use, such as deleting an individual chat or making a deletion request. Second, there is the scope stated for that control, such as a selected WhatsApp conversation or information previously shared with Meta AI. Third, there is what the available documentation does not say: a universal processing time, an instant-erasure promise for every copy, or a guarantee that all related activity is removed by one action. Keep your expectations within the stated scope.
For a careful sequence, request the WhatsApp history download first if you need a copy; then delete the individual chat if that is your goal; separately submit the information-deletion request if applicable; and inspect memory controls if they are available and you want to manage saved details. Use Activity Log only for relevant Facebook activity. This sequence helps avoid two common mistakes: losing the chance to request a history download by deleting too soon, and assuming that a single chat-list action clears every other category of information.
Menus and feature availability may change with app versions and accounts. WhatsApp’s chat and download instructions are WhatsApp-specific, Meta’s memory announcement described a gradual rollout, and the older /reset-ai documentation is dated September 2023. If an option is absent or a command no longer works, rely on the current controls in your app rather than inferring that another platform’s path applies.
