To delete site specific cookies in Safari for iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced > Website Data, find the domain, swipe left on it, and tap Delete. Safari removes that site’s local cookies and other website data, which may sign you out without deleting your history or saved passwords.
On older iPhone and iPad software, Safari may appear directly under Settings > Safari rather than Settings > Apps > Safari. The remaining path—Advanced > Website Data—is substantially the same.
Key takeaways
- Delete one site’s Safari data from Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced > Website Data by swiping left on the site and tapping Delete.
- Website Data includes more than cookies: cached files, login-session state, preferences, and other locally stored information may also be removed.
- Deleting one website’s data can sign you out and reset consent choices, but it does not delete the website account, Safari history, or saved passwords.
- Remove All Website Data clears local data for every website while retaining Safari history, whereas Clear History and Website Data also removes browsing records.
- Private Browsing tests a new session but does not delete cookies already stored during normal Safari browsing.
How to Delete Site Specific Cookies in Safari for iPhone or iPad
The targeted method is to remove the website’s entry from Safari’s Website Data list rather than using the broader history-clearing command.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Apps, then tap Safari. On older iOS or iPadOS versions, tap Safari directly from the main Settings screen.
- Scroll down and tap Advanced.
- Tap Website Data.
- Find the website by scrolling or by using the search field if your software provides one. Search for the site’s domain, not only its brand name.
- Swipe left on the website entry.
- Tap Delete. Depending on the system version and screen layout, the control may appear as a delete or trash-button action.
- Return to Safari and reload the affected tab, or close and reopen the tab before visiting the website again.
Apple’s current support documentation confirms the Website Data location and the separate all-sites removal control. The individual-site swipe-left action is documented in Apple Support Community guidance, so the exact gesture can vary slightly between releases even though the Website Data list is the correct place to start.

Deleting a single entry is the best choice when one website has a stuck login, stale page, repeated consent prompt, or corrupted local setting and you want to preserve data for other websites.
What does deleting one website’s Safari data remove?
Deleting a Website Data entry removes the selected domain’s locally stored Safari information, not necessarily cookies alone. The entry can include cookies, cached files, login and session state, site preferences, and other browser storage used by the website.
The most noticeable result is often a sign-out. Authentication cookies can be removed even though the account itself remains active on the website. After returning to the site, enter the login details again if required.

| Browser-saved preferences and consent choices | Safari browsing history |
| Temporary cart or session information held locally | Saved passwords in iCloud Keychain or AutoFill |
| Some site-specific permissions or other local state | Data stored in another browser or app |
Apple explains that clearing cookies and website data can remove information used for tracking and for saving login information, while AutoFill information is separate. See Apple’s explanation of Safari history, cache, cookies, and AutoFill for the distinction.
A shopping cart, draft, or preference may disappear if the website stored that information only in Safari on the device. Data already saved to the website’s account or server should not be confused with that local browser state.

What if the website does not appear in Website Data?
If a website is missing from Safari’s Website Data list, Safari may not currently have stored data for that domain, or the relevant data may be listed under a different domain.
Try these checks:
- Search for the main domain rather than the company or product name. For example, a service may be listed by its web address rather than its familiar brand name.
- Look for a related sign-in provider, payment processor, content-delivery domain, or embedded service. Delete related entries only when you understand which service they belong to; removing an identity provider’s data can affect sign-in to multiple services.
- Check that you are using the Safari profile where the website was opened. Safari profiles can have separate favorites, histories, tabs, and Tab Groups, which can make activity appear to be missing. Apple describes profile organization in its Safari profile documentation.
- Consider whether the data already expired or was previously removed.
- Make sure you are viewing Website Data, not Safari’s browsing-history list. History records and website storage are separate.
Do not indiscriminately delete every similar-looking domain. A broad deletion can sign you out of unrelated websites or remove useful local settings.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow do you delete all cookies while keeping Safari history?
Use Remove All Website Data when you want to clear cookies and local website data for every site but keep Safari’s browsing history.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps > Safari. On older versions, tap Safari directly.
- Tap Advanced > Website Data.
- Tap Remove All Website Data.
- Tap Remove Now to confirm.
Apple documents this as a separate action from clearing history in its Safari data-clearing instructions. Removing all Website Data is more disruptive than deleting one domain because many websites may sign you out at once.
Which Safari cleanup method should you use?
The correct Safari cleanup command depends on whether you want to remove one domain, all local website data, browsing records, or only test a temporary session.

Why should you avoid Clear History and Website Data for a one-site problem?
Clear History and Website Data is broader than deleting one site’s cookies. Use it only when you also intend to remove Safari history and related browsing records.
According to Apple’s Safari privacy guidance, clearing history can remove visited webpages, recent searches, frequently visited sites, previous and next navigation lists, page icons, snapshots, download-history entries, Quick Website Search sites, and site-permission records. Clearing a download-history entry does not necessarily delete the downloaded file itself.
Website Data deletion does not make a website disappear from Safari history. Conversely, clearing history is not the precise fix for a single site’s stale cookie or local session problem.
What should you do after deleting the site data?
After deleting the entry, reload the affected Safari tab or close and reopen it, then visit the website again. Expect to sign in again and reselect preferences or consent options.
If the original problem remains, work through these tests in order:

- Open the site in a new normal Safari tab and reproduce the problem.
- Open a Private Browsing tab and test the same page. Private Browsing changes how future browsing activity is retained in Safari; it is not a replacement for deleting existing normal-session cookies. Apple explains Private Browsing for iPhone and iPad.
- Review Safari extensions and content blockers. Temporarily disabling an extension can show whether the extension is interfering with scripts, login redirects, or page content.
- Review the website’s permissions. While the site is open, tap the Page Menu button beside the address or search field, tap the additional-options button, and adjust the relevant control under Website Settings For. Available per-site controls can include camera, microphone, location, and IP-address visibility.
- Try the website in another browser or on another device. If the same account problem occurs elsewhere, the cause may be server-side, account-related, or network-related rather than Safari’s local data.
- Contact the website if the account is locked, the server session is invalid, the service is unavailable, or the problem returns immediately after Safari recreates the local data.
Deleting local website data can fix stale or corrupted browser state, but it cannot repair a website outage, account restriction, DNS problem, incompatible web application, or every extension conflict.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why are Safari controls unavailable or gray?
If a Safari clearing control is gray, Apple says there may be no website data available to remove, or Screen Time web-content restrictions may be enabled. Check Settings > Screen Time and its web-content restrictions if the control remains unavailable.
Device-management policies, parental controls, or an empty Website Data list can also explain why a particular action has no effect. Avoid enabling Block All Cookies as a workaround: Apple warns that blocking all cookies can prevent sign-in and break website features, making it a preventive compatibility trade-off rather than a targeted cleanup method.
Is the process different on iPhone and iPad?
The underlying settings path is substantially the same on current iPhone and iPad software: Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced > Website Data. Button placement and page layout can vary with device orientation, screen size, Safari tab layout, and iOS or iPadOS version.
On older software, begin at Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data. Apple’s older instructions use that menu arrangement, while newer versions place many app settings under Settings > Apps; see the older Apple Safari cache and cookie instructions for the earlier label variation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will deleting one website’s Safari data delete my saved password?
No. Deleting one website’s Safari data removes local cookies and other website storage, but saved passwords in iCloud Keychain or AutoFill are separate and remain available.
Will deleting Safari Website Data remove the website from my history?
No. Website Data and Safari history are separate. Deleting a site’s Website Data does not remove its history entry; use Clear History and Website Data only if you also intend to erase browsing records.
Why did Safari sign me out after I deleted the website’s cookies?
Deleting authentication cookies commonly ends the site’s local login session, so Safari may sign you out even though the online account was not deleted. Sign in again when you revisit the site.

What should I do if deleting a site’s cookies does not fix Safari?
Test the site in a Private Browsing tab, review extensions and content blockers, check the site’s permissions, and try another browser or device. A server-side account, network, or website problem may remain after local data is removed.
The Bottom Line
For a one-site Safari reset, use Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced > Website Data, swipe left on the relevant domain, and tap Delete. Choose Remove All Website Data only when every site needs a local-data reset, and avoid Clear History and Website Data unless deleting Safari history is also part of your goal.
