Use Browserless to render an Indian website URL—or custom HTML for a purpose-built card—to image bytes, then host the image and add its public URL to the page’s og:image metadata. A screenshot alone does not publish a social preview. Browserless documents a REST POST to /screenshot with a URL and optional screenshot settings; an API token is required. The workflow below distinguishes an India-based website from a page that must actually be rendered through Indian network egress.
How the workflow fits together
- Choose whether to capture the live page or render custom HTML for a composed social card.
- Send a REST
POSTrequest to Browserless’s/screenshotendpoint with your API token, target URL or HTML, and capture options. - Check the HTTP response and content type, then save the returned image bytes.
- Host the image at a URL external preview consumers can fetch.
- Add Open Graph metadata to the page that will be shared and verify the published image URL and capture.
Browserless’s current REST overview documents PNG, JPEG, and WebP output. Its quickstart demonstrates options such as fullPage and type. See the Browserless Screenshot API documentation for the endpoint’s current request format and supported options. REST requests require an API token; do not expose a secret token in public client-side code.

Choose what the image should show
Capture the live page
Pass the Indian page URL when the goal is to show the page as rendered. This is straightforward, but the page may be long, cluttered, covered by overlays, or in an incomplete loading state. A full-page capture is not automatically a well-composed share card.
Render a designed card
For a deliberate title, image, and branding composition, send supplied HTML and CSS instead of capturing the entire live page. Browserless documents URL and raw-HTML input. This gives you control of the card layout, but you must build and maintain its markup and styles.

- LENGTH: 48 pages
- Bound with durable, high quality silver double-loop wire-o and printed on bright white 130# cover stock.
- Printed and manufactured in the U.S.A.
Capture an existing element or clipped region
If the page already contains a suitably framed card, use a CSS selector or clip options to capture just that area. This relies on a stable selector or correctly chosen clip coordinates; check the resulting crop rather than assuming it fits.
Send a screenshot request
The following cURL example shows the request shape. Replace the token and target URL, and consult the linked Browserless documentation for the exact authentication and payload format currently accepted by your account and endpoint.
curl -X POST "https://production-sfo.browserless.io/screenshot?token=YOUR_API_TOKEN"
-H "Content-Type: application/json"
--output preview.png
-d '{
"url": "https://example.in",
"options": {
"fullPage": false,
"type": "png"
}
}'
Before treating preview.png as a valid capture, inspect the response status and content type. An error response should not be saved or published as if it were an image. Set the viewport and image format for your intended card; use a wait condition where content is rendered asynchronously. The endpoint supports screenshot options, but check the current docs for each option’s exact name and behavior.
Control loading and framing
- Wait for content: use a documented wait condition, such as waiting for a relevant selector, rather than capturing immediately while scripts are still changing the page.
- Handle lazy content: Browserless’s screenshot FAQ recommends
scrollPage: truewhen lazy-loaded content must be triggered. Combine it withfullPage: trueonly if the entire page is wanted. - Frame the card: use a selector or clip for a defined element, or render custom HTML when you need control over the composition.
- Check the result: look for a CAPTCHA or access-denied screen, blank content, missing elements, or an unintended crop before publishing.
Browserless documents selector-based capture, clip controls, wait controls, and viewport settings in its screenshot documentation and screenshot recipes.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Indian URL versus India-based rendering
A URL on an Indian site, including an .in domain, does not by itself mean the browser request originates in India. If a page changes by visitor country, language, or IP address, that is a separate geographic-rendering requirement. Browserless documents country selection for proxies and locale matching, but parameter support can vary by endpoint, and datacenter networks cover fewer countries than residential networks. Check that your chosen screenshot endpoint and available proxy option support the country you need, then verify the rendered page’s state. Do not add a country proxy unless geographic variation matters. See Browserless proxy documentation.
Make the result available as a social preview
After saving the image, place it at a publicly reachable image URL. Then add Open Graph properties to the HTML head of the page people will share. The Open Graph protocol identifies og:title, og:type, og:image, and og:url as required properties; when an image is specified, provide og:image:alt describing it as well.
<meta property="og:title" content="A useful page title">
<meta property="og:type" content="website">
<meta property="og:image" content="https://example.in/images/social-preview.png">
<meta property="og:url" content="https://example.in/page">
<meta property="og:image:alt" content="Description of the social preview image">
Use the canonical URL of the page in og:url and the hosted image URL in og:image; the image bytes returned by Browserless are not themselves a public preview URL. The Open Graph protocol defines these properties. Check that the deployed metadata is present in the page head and that the image URL resolves for external consumers. Preview services may cache results, and the reviewed documentation does not establish a universal cache-refresh procedure.
Which capture approach fits?
| Approach | Best use | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Capture the URL | Preserve a view of the rendered target page | Page layout, overlays, long content, and load state can make the image unsuitable as a share card. |
| Render supplied HTML | Create a deliberate title, image, and branding card | You must compose and maintain the card markup and styles. |
| Capture an element or clip | Reuse a well-framed existing page element | It depends on a stable selector or correct clip coordinates. |
| Use a country proxy | Reproduce page content that varies by geography | Proxy use adds a requirement to verify endpoint support and country availability. |
Troubleshooting
The saved file is blank or shows an error page
Browserless lists blank or white captures, CAPTCHA challenges, access-denied pages, and 403 responses among signs that a target may be blocking automation. Confirm the target is publicly accessible and inspect the returned status and content type. Browserless documents /unblock for some protections and suggests residential proxies for best results, but neither is a guarantee against every bot defense. See Browserless troubleshooting guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsImportant content is missing
Asynchronous scripts may not have finished when the capture begins. Wait for the relevant selector or other documented condition. For lazy-loaded sections, use the documented scrollPage option; capture full-page only when that is the intended result.
The image is technically valid but looks wrong when shared
A whole-page capture may be too long or place the subject poorly. Render custom HTML for a designed card, or capture a stable element or clip and inspect its framing. Also confirm that the page metadata points to the hosted output rather than a local filename.
The preview does not reflect a metadata or image change
First verify the deployed page head and that the image URL is reachable. Preview consumers may cache results; the sources cited here do not specify a universal refresh method, so use the relevant consumer’s current tools or documentation rather than assuming a particular cache-busting process.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo can capture a page with one API request and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its clean-shot steps accept cookie or consent banners like a visitor and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. It also has an MCP server for AI agents, with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
cURL example, adapting the target URL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.in -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. After generating the image, host it and set its public address in og:image, just as with any screenshot workflow. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan: 1,000 screenshots a month, no card required.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Browserless screenshot automatically become a social preview?
No. Host the returned image at a publicly reachable URL and reference it in the page’s og:image metadata.
Does an Indian domain require an India proxy?
No. Use country proxying only when the rendered content depends on geographic location, and verify support for the endpoint and country you need.
