This Itechguide teaches you how to copy and paste on Facebook. The guide covers steps to copy and paste on Facebook from the Facebook App or a PC/Mac.

Option 1: Copy and Paste Through the Mobile App

The steps in this section was performed with Facebook App for Android. You can use the same steps for the App for iPhone/iPad (iOS devices).
  • Open the Facebook App on your Mobile phone. Then login with your Facebook account.

  • Scroll down your News Feed and locate the post you want to copy. For this first demo, I want to copy the highlighted text in the image below.
You can copy a Facebook post or a comment but you cannot copy a picture. Facebook also allows you to copy and paste a text you typed.

  • To copy the text, click on it and hold until you see Copy text (Android App), or Copy (iPhone App). Click Copy text to copy the text to your clipboard.

  • To paste the copied text, open the location you want to paste it. Then tap and hold until you see the blue line with a cone beneath it. Then remove your finger. Paste will be displayed. In this example, I wan to paste the text in a new post. When Paste displays above your finger, click it to paste your text. The text you copied will be pasted immediately.
If you are pasting on the iPhone App, when you tap and hold, a circle will appear above your finger. Remove your finger at that point to display Paste.
How to Copy and Paste on Facebook (from the Mobile App)
You could use the steps described above to copy and paste on Facebook from another App. For example, you could paste the text you copied from Facebook into a notepad or even Google Docs or Sheets. To do so open the app, tap and hold, then remove your finger to display Paste. Finally, to paste click Paste.

Copy and Paste a Facebook Comment

Finally, for this section you can copy a comment on Facebook from the App.

Here are the steps.

  • Open the post with the comment you want to copy. Locate the comment, then click to open it – you cannot copy the comment until you view it from the comments list.
  • Tap and hold the comment you want to copy. On the list of displayed options click Copy.
  • To paste the comment, open the location you want to paste it. Tap and hold until you see a blue line (Android) or circle (iPhone). Then lift your finger to display Paste. Click Paste.

Option 2: Copy and Paste Using a PC or Mac

  • Open Facebook.com and login with your Facebook account.
  • Then scroll down to the post you want to copy and highlight it. To highlight the text either left-click it 3 consecutive times or hold down your mouse at one end of the text and drag.

  • With the text highlighted, right-click anywhere on the text. Then select Copy.
You could also copy the text by clicking Ctrl + C on your keyboard (on a PC) or Command + C (on a Mac).
  • To paste the text, open the location. Then right-click and select Paste. In this example, I want to paste the copied text in a new post.
You could paste using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + V for a PC or Command + V for Mac.

  1. You have NOT covered my (typical) case. Here are the details:
    1. On my desktop PC, I have this page open: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10158627318313772&id=789198771#_=_; – note that this a mobile Facebook page.
    2. The text on the page displayed is NOT editable (i.e., NOT selectable, NOT copyable), so the only method to copy the text is to OCR it, and then paste in an application on my PC.

    Is there any direct method of achieving my goal?
