You can clear Chrome’s cached files on Android without deleting saved passwords. Open Chrome, go to More (⋮) → Delete browsing data → More options, select Cached images and files, and leave Saved passwords unchecked. Select Cookies and site data only when you also want to reset website sign-ins or preferences. Review the time range and categories before tapping Delete data.
What you can delete safely—and what you should leave alone
Chrome treats cache, cookies, browsing history, autofill information, and saved passwords as separate data types. Clearing one category does not automatically select the others. That separation is what lets you refresh damaged or outdated page files while preserving your password manager entries.

Google says clearing cache and cookies can resolve website loading or formatting issues, show a newer version of a site, and free local storage. Cache-only clearing is the least disruptive option because it removes temporary page files without intentionally changing a site’s sign-in state or deleting password-manager entries.

Clear Chrome’s cache while keeping saved passwords
The labels can move slightly between Chrome versions, Android device layouts, and languages. Follow the visible category names rather than assuming every phone shows an identical dialog.

- Open Chrome. Start the Chrome app on your Android phone or tablet.
- Open the menu. Tap More, shown as the three-dot icon (⋮), usually at the top right.
- Enter the deletion screen. Tap Delete browsing data.
- Show individual categories. Tap More options if Chrome initially shows a shortened list. This exposes the separate controls for cache, cookies, passwords, history, and other data.
- Select the cache. Check Cached images and files.
- Decide whether cookies are needed. Keep Cookies and site data unchecked for a cache-only refresh. Select it only if you deliberately want to remove site cookies and stored site data.
- Protect passwords and other data. Confirm that Saved passwords is not checked. Also leave Browsing history and Autofill form data unchecked unless you explicitly want to delete them.
- Choose a time range. Use the time-range control if it is displayed. A shorter range limits the deletion; All time removes matching data across the full period Chrome offers.
- Review before confirming. Look at every checked category and the selected time range. This is the last opportunity to catch an accidentally selected password or cookie category.
- Delete the selected data. Tap Delete data. Chrome removes only the checked categories within the chosen range.
After a cache-only deletion, revisit the affected page. Its images, scripts, and other cacheable files may need to download again, so the first reload can be slower. That temporary slowdown is expected and is different from losing a saved password.
When to include cookies and site data
Cookies are created by websites and commonly hold session identifiers, language choices, consent selections, and other preferences. Removing them can fix a site that is stuck in a bad session, displays obsolete state, or repeatedly fails to load correctly. It also has a larger sign-in cost than clearing cache.
Choose Cookies and site data in addition to cache when the problem appears tied to one or more websites’ stored state—for example, a site continually redirects, shows an incorrect account, or keeps displaying a broken preference. Expect affected sites to ask for authentication again and to forget local settings.

Choose the narrowest time range that solves the problem
Chrome’s Android cookie-and-site-data help lists six ranges:
- Last 15 minutes
- Last hour
- Last 24 hours
- Last 7 days
- Last 4 weeks
- All time
Use the smallest range that covers when the problem began. For a page that broke a few minutes ago, Last 15 minutes or Last hour can avoid removing older site sessions. If the fault has persisted for weeks, a longer range may be necessary. The exact list or placement can vary with the installed Chrome version, so use the options actually shown on your device.

Do not select Saved passwords as a shortcut for fixing a login page. Password entries and website cookies serve different purposes: a password can remain stored while the site’s session cookie is removed, in which case Chrome can still offer the credential when you sign in again.

Delete data for one troublesome website instead
If only one site is affected, a per-site deletion limits collateral damage. This route removes that site’s cookies and stored data without clearing the same categories for every website.
- Open the affected website in Chrome.
- Tap the page-information control beside the address bar. Depending on the page and Chrome version, it may appear as a lock or another site-information icon.
- Tap Cookies and site data.
- Review the stored entries, then tap Delete beside the data you want to remove.
- Reload the page and sign in again if the site requests it.
Per-site deletion can still sign you out of that website and erase its preferences. It is narrower in scope, not risk-free for the selected site.
Account synchronization and the password warning
Before deleting any category beyond cache, check whether the data is associated with a Google Account. Google warns that data saved to an account and deleted from an Android device can be removed from all devices signed in to that account. This warning matters especially if you are considering the Saved passwords category, but it is also a reason to inspect the complete selection before confirming.
For the goal in this guide, the safe configuration is straightforward: select Cached images and files, optionally select Cookies and site data when you accept the sign-in consequences, and leave Saved passwords unchecked. If the dialog shows a summary or count, use it to verify that no password category is included.

What to expect after clearing
The first page load is slower
Because cached resources were removed, Chrome must fetch them again. The slowdown should affect the initial reload of pages that depended on those files; it is not evidence that your passwords were deleted.
A website asks you to sign in
This usually indicates that cookies and site data were selected, or that the site independently expired its session. Check the deletion categories you used. Chrome’s saved password entry can still be available even when the site no longer has a valid session cookie.
The page still displays the old problem
Confirm that you cleared the category relevant to the symptom. Cache clearing refreshes stored files, while cookie deletion resets site state. If the issue affects only one domain, use the per-site route rather than repeatedly clearing all sites. Also verify that you selected a time range covering the period in which the problematic data was created.

You cannot find “More options”
Chrome’s wording and layout change with app releases and device software. Open More → Delete browsing data and look for an expandable control, a category list, or a similar option that reveals individual data types. The essential check is that Cached images and files and Saved passwords appear as separate choices.

A safe pre-confirmation checklist
- Identify whether the goal is a file refresh, a site-state reset, or deletion for one domain.
- Open More → Delete browsing data → More options.
- Set the narrowest useful time range.
- Select Cached images and files for a cache refresh.
- Select Cookies and site data only if you accept possible sign-outs and lost preferences.
- Make sure Saved passwords is unchecked.
- Leave history and autofill unchecked unless their deletion is intentional.
- Review the categories and time range immediately before tapping Delete data.
Google’s Android Chrome and Google Account guidance checked on October 13, 2026, documents these controls but does not publish a single fixed layout for every phone. Chrome version, Android skin, locale, and screen size can change the wording or placement, while the underlying category distinction remains the key safeguard for keeping saved passwords.

No. Chrome presents cached files and saved passwords as separate selectable categories. Leave Saved passwords unchecked and delete only Cached images and files.
Will I be signed out of my Google Account if I clear cookies?
