Choose Business Basic when web and mobile apps are enough, Business Standard when desktop Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook is required, and Business Premium when its added protections and management tools meet a real business need.
Compare Business Basic, Standard, and Premium
Microsoft lists these three Business plans for organizations with 1–300 employees. Its comparison shows 1 TB of cloud storage per user for each tier. The clearest difference is whether the plan includes desktop Office apps; Premium’s additional distinction is advanced security and device management.

The prices are the amounts shown on Microsoft’s US plans page on October 4, 2026, for annual billing and configurations with Teams; they exclude tax. They are a dated US reference, not a global or guaranteed checkout price. Monthly billing and regional prices can differ. Check Microsoft’s current business plan comparison and pricing for the market and billing option you will actually buy.
Choose based on how employees use Office
Business Basic: browser and mobile work
Basic fits the app requirement when the team can work with Office on the web and on mobile devices. If staff do not need installed desktop Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook, start by checking whether Basic’s included apps and services cover the way they work.

Business Standard: installed desktop apps
Choose Standard when employees need desktop versions of Office apps. It retains web and mobile access and adds desktop apps, making that addition the key reason to move up from Basic.
Business Premium: security and device management
Consider Premium when the business has a concrete need for its advanced cyberthreat protection or device-management capabilities. Microsoft identifies these as Premium additions; that does not mean every small business needs them. Weigh the capabilities against the organization’s security risks and the effort required to administer its devices.

Verify the bundle, seats, and billing before buying
Do not assume every Microsoft 365 Business plan includes the same services. Microsoft offers plan versions with and without Teams and with and without Copilot, so confirm the exact configuration or SKU on the purchase page. The price comparison above is specifically for plans with Teams; it does not establish the price of every alternative bundle. Microsoft’s business-plan FAQ describes these plan and bundle variations.
- Seats: Work out how many people need a license. The plans are per-user subscriptions, and Microsoft shows the Business tiers for organizations with 1–300 employees.
- Billing: Compare annual and monthly billing commitments; the listed US annual-billing amounts should not be treated as monthly-billing prices.
- Market and tax: Check the quote for your country or region and whether tax is added.
- Storage: Microsoft’s comparison shows 1 TB of cloud storage per user across the three plans.
When the Business tiers may not fit
If your organization has more than 300 employees, or needs enterprise-level licensing or capabilities, investigate Microsoft’s other licensing options rather than assuming a Business plan is suitable. The employee range is the scope shown on Microsoft’s Business comparison; it is not a recommendation that every organization within that range will have the same requirements.
