Before installing an Android app, check where it came from, who published it, what recent reviewers report, what its Google Play Data safety section discloses, and whether its requested permissions fit its purpose. Keep Google Play Protect on, and stop if an unexpected message or caller is pressuring you to install something. These checks reduce risk; none can guarantee an app is safe.
Use this checklist before you install
- Confirm the source. Prefer Google Play or the publisher’s official distribution channel. Avoid links to app downloads that arrive unexpectedly by text, chat, email, or phone call. Scammers may impersonate bank fraud staff, technical support, or delivery services to get you to install a fake app. If someone claims an organization requires an app, verify the request through that organization’s official website or a phone number you already know. Android Help: Download apps to your Android device
- Check the publisher and listing. On Google Play, read the developer name and app description, then look at the rating, download count, and individual reviews. Pay particular attention to recent reports of unexpected charges, intrusive behavior, impersonation, or advertised features that do not work. Ratings and popularity are clues, not proof; a convincing listing does not establish that an app is genuine. Google recommends checking ratings, downloads, and individual reviews in its download guidance.
- Read Data safety. In the app’s Google Play listing, open the Data safety section and select See details. Compare the declared data collection and sharing with the app’s function. For example, consider whether a simple utility’s declared data practices make sense for what it does. Google says this section is available for Play-distributed apps on Android 5 and later. It is a developer disclosure, not an independent audit; details may vary by use, region, and age. Google Play Help: Understand app privacy & security practices with Google Play’s Data safety section
- Match permissions to the app’s job. Ask what each requested permission enables. Location access while using a maps app can fit its purpose; a basic calculator seeking broad access to contacts or accessibility functions needs a clear explanation. A permission request alone does not prove malicious intent, but do not grant access you cannot justify.
- Leave Play Protect enabled. Google says Play Protect checks apps from Google Play before download, scans apps from other sources and the device, and may warn about, disable, or remove harmful apps. It is on by default. A clean scan is useful, but it does not prove an app is genuine or guarantee safety. See Google Play Help: Use Google Play Protect to help keep your apps safe and your data private.
- Stop on warnings or pressure. Do not treat an installation block or security warning as routine friction. Verify any claimed need through an official contact route rather than following a caller’s or message’s instructions. Google’s guidance on unverified developers describes an advanced one-time bypass flow with a 24-hour security delay and says users continue to receive a warning during installation. What Google Play’s Data safety and permissions tell you
These screens answer different questions. Data safety is based on the developer’s declarations about collection, sharing, and certain security practices. The permissions list is based on technical information about what the app can access or request. Google says they may differ for legitimate reasons: some processing stays on the device, some collection is not managed by permissions, and some data or service types are not covered by the label. A difference is a reason to understand the app’s behavior, not automatic proof of deception.
Data safety applies across versions distributed through Google Play, but a sparse disclosure is not a full audit of every operation. Google notes that some on-device-only processing does not count as “collected” for the disclosure and that some ephemeral processing may be excluded. App-specific information may also be in the listing, privacy policy, or other documentation. Read Google’s explanation of Data safety disclosures.
Google Play’s Verified badge described in its Data safety guidance is currently limited to VPN apps. Google lists conditions including independent Mobile Application Security Assessment Level 2 validation, a minimum Play publication period, install and review thresholds, an organization developer account, API-level requirements, and a Data safety declaration. The criteria are not exhaustive, and the badge is neither a guarantee of safety nor a standard every app must meet. Absence of the badge does not establish that a non-VPN app is unsafe.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
When you are comparing two apps for the same job
Compare like with like rather than choosing solely by star rating. Look at the publisher’s identity and source, the substance and recency of reviews, declared data practices and their stated purpose, permissions needed for core features, and whether the publisher explains its security practices and provides a usable privacy policy or contact. Also note whether installation produces warnings or asks you to bypass safeguards. These are practical comparison points drawn from Google’s listing, permissions, and disclosure guidance, not a formal safety score.
Why installing an APK or other sideloaded app needs extra care
Android can install apps from sources other than Google Play, but Google warns that apps from unknown sources can put your device and personal information at risk, including device damage, data loss, or compromised personal information. Prefer a publisher’s official channel when an app is not on Play, and do not use a download link supplied unexpectedly by someone who contacts you. Play Protect scans apps from other sources too, but that safeguard does not make an unknown download trustworthy. Android Help’s download guidance

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Developer verification is being introduced in phases, so installation rules depend on the device, store, and region. As of Google’s guidance checked on October 4, 2026, the initial phase began in September 2026 in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand: on certified Android devices, apps from participating stores must be registered to a verified developer to install and receive updates. The page names Google Play, HONOR App Market, OPPO App Market, Samsung Galaxy Store, Palm Store, vivo V-Appstore, and Xiaomi GetApps for that initial phase. Google says global expansion for apps on certified devices is planned for 2027; that is a plan, not a completed rollout. Its page also describes exemptions, including AOSP and non-certified devices, and stated region and service exceptions. Check the current Android developer verification guidance for applicable details.

- Review and change permissions for the app or by permission type in Android settings; Android can also automatically remove permissions for unused apps.
- If its behavior or disclosures still concern you, uninstall it rather than granting more access.
On Android 13 and later, Google’s current guidance places combined controls at Settings > Security and privacy. Android 12 and earlier may show separate Security and Privacy sections. Device manufacturers can customize menus, so names and paths may differ; consult the device maker’s instructions if you do not see those labels.
