To change the front page in WordPress, create the page you want to use, then open Settings > Reading. Under Your homepage displays (the wording can vary by version), choose A static page, select your page in the Homepage dropdown, optionally select a separate Posts page, and click Save Changes. Visit your site in a new browser tab to confirm the result.
How to change front page in WordPress: the complete procedure
WordPress can show either a changing list of recent posts or one page as the site’s front page. The setting that controls this is separate from the content on the page itself. You first create the page, then tell WordPress which page is the homepage.
1. Create the page you want to use
- Sign in to the WordPress dashboard.
- Open Pages > Add New.
- Enter a title and add the content, blocks, images, or other elements you want visitors to see.
- Publish or otherwise save the page so it exists in your Pages list.
The page must exist before it can appear in the Homepage selector. If you want posts to have their own archive, create a second page now, such as Blog. That page can be completely blank; WordPress uses it as a location for the post list rather than displaying the page’s own body content.
2. Open Reading Settings
- In the dashboard, go to Settings > Reading.
- Find the section labeled Your homepage displays or similar wording such as Front page displays. Labels differ among WordPress versions and themes.
3. Select a static page
- Select A static page.
- In the Homepage dropdown, choose the page you created for the front page.
- If you created a blog page, choose it in the Posts page dropdown.
- Click Save Changes.
The Homepage choice determines the page shown at your site’s front address. The Posts page choice determines where WordPress lists your posts. These can be the same only if that is the behavior you deliberately want; most sites use a dedicated page for each role.

Set static page as homepage WordPress: what each choice does

Choosing a page as the Posts page does not mean WordPress renders that page’s normal editor content above the posts. WordPress treats the selection as an archive location. Keep the page available for the assignment, but manage the post-list presentation through your theme’s archive or blog settings when those controls are provided.
Change WordPress homepage to a static page without losing your posts
Switching from Latest posts to A static page changes what appears at the front address; it does not delete existing posts. Use this sequence when a site already has a blog:
- Create and save the page that will become the home page.
- Create a second page for the blog archive, for example Blog. Leave it blank if you do not need introductory page text.
- Go to Settings > Reading.
- Choose A static page.
- Assign the new home page to Homepage.
- Assign Blog to Posts page.
- Save the settings.
- Open the front address and the blog page in separate tabs. The first should show the selected page; the second should show the site’s posts.
If you later want the site to return to a blog-first layout, revisit the same screen and select Latest posts, then save. The page assignments remain available for a future switch back to a static front page.
Use the Customizer as an alternative
The official WordPress guidance identifies two places for the static-front-page setting: Reading Settings and the Customizer. Depending on your WordPress version and active theme, open the Customizer from the dashboard’s appearance tools and look for the homepage or front-page settings. Choose the static-page option, select the home and posts pages, and publish or save the change.

The exact Customizer labels and location are theme-dependent, so the Reading Settings route is the most consistent starting point. If the Customizer does not expose homepage controls, use Settings > Reading instead.

WordPress homepage not showing my page: troubleshoot in this order
If the front address still shows the wrong content, check the configuration rather than rebuilding the page. Work through each item and reload the site after saving.

Return to Settings > Reading. If Latest posts is selected, WordPress will continue to show the post feed regardless of which page you intended to use. Select A static page, choose the correct Homepage, and save.
Check the Homepage dropdown
Make sure the dropdown names the page you actually want. Similar titles can make the wrong page easy to select. If your page is absent, go back to Pages > Add New or the Pages list and create or save it before returning to Reading Settings.

Check the Posts page assignment
If you expect a blog at a separate address, verify that the intended page is selected in Posts page. A blank page is normal for this role. Selecting a page as the Posts page does not make it the front page; the Homepage field controls the front address.
Save, then test the public view
Click Save Changes after every adjustment. Then open the site’s front address and the selected blog address. If you are already viewing the site, reload it so you are testing the saved configuration rather than an older browser view.
Look for theme-specific front-page controls
Some themes add their own front-page features. A theme may provide a special homepage layout, a section-based front page, or additional controls that affect how the selected page is rendered. Consult the documentation for the active theme when the Reading Settings assignment is correct but the visual result is not what the theme describes.
Check which dashboard wording your version uses
WordPress versions and themes do not always use identical labels. Search the Reading screen for the pair of choices that correspond to a changing post list and a static page. The labels may read Your homepage displays or Front page displays, but the purpose is the same.

Why the front page and blog page are separate
A static home page and a posts page solve different navigation problems. The home page is a controlled introduction to the site: it can explain what the site does and direct visitors to key sections. The posts page is an automatically maintained index of published posts.
- Homepage: the page selected to represent the site at its front address.
- Posts page: the page location WordPress uses for the chronological post archive.
- Page content: blocks and text you edit on a normal page.
- Post content: individual entries that appear in the posts archive and other theme-defined listings.
Keeping these assignments distinct lets you redesign the home page without changing the blog archive, and lets you continue publishing posts without replacing the home page.

Changing the home page later
Choose a different static page
- Create or save the replacement page.
- Open Settings > Reading.
- Leave A static page selected.
- Choose the replacement in Homepage.
- Click Save Changes and verify the public front address.
Return to a post-driven front page
- Open Settings > Reading.
- Select Latest posts.
- Click Save Changes.
This reverses which content appears at the front address. It does not require deleting the static page or the separate blog page.
Practical verification checklist
- The intended home page exists in the Pages area.
- A static page is selected under the homepage-display setting.
- The correct page is selected as Homepage.
- A separate page is selected as Posts page if the site needs a blog archive.
- Save Changes has been clicked.
- The front address shows the selected page when opened as a visitor.
- The blog address shows the post list when a Posts page is assigned.
- The active theme’s documentation has been checked if its front-page layout overrides or supplements the standard setting.
Common setup mistakes
Trying to select a page that has not been created
The Homepage and Posts page dropdowns can only use pages that already exist. Create the pages first, then return to Reading Settings.

Putting blog text on the Posts page
A Posts page is an archive location. If you need an introduction to the blog, use the theme’s blog or archive controls where available, or place that explanation on another page that links to the archive.
Changing the page but not the display mode
Editing a page’s title or content does not make it the front page. The assignment happens under the homepage-display setting, and the mode must be A static page.

Assuming every theme renders the page identically
The page assignment is a WordPress setting, while the appearance of that page can be shaped by the active theme. When the selected page is correct but sections, headers, or layouts differ from expectations, use the theme’s own front-page documentation.
When to use each approach

Final check after publishing the change
Open the site’s public front address, confirm that the selected page appears, and follow the site’s navigation to the assigned posts page. If both locations behave as expected, the front-page change is complete. If not, recheck the display mode, the two page dropdowns, the save action, and any theme-specific homepage controls before changing page content.
