“Realistic” means different things in different WWII shooters. Squad 44 explicitly presents itself as a simulation with a difficult learning curve and a strong need for communication and teamwork. Hell Let Loose centers on 50-versus-50 combined-arms battles and a strategic resource layer. Enlisted makes you command a squad of AI soldiers and switch to another member when the one you control is lost. The right fit depends on which of those approaches you want—not on a single objective realism score.

This guide compares what the developers describe, what the published Windows requirements say, and what those facts can—and cannot—tell you as a player. Requirements and platform listings may change, so check each game’s current store or official page before buying or installing.

What “realistic” means in these games

There is no single, established measure that ranks a shooter’s realism. The term can refer to several different design choices: how much a game asks players to coordinate, how combat roles and vehicles fit into a match, whether the player controls one soldier or a squad, and how the developer presents historical settings and equipment.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The three games differ in those choices. Squad 44’s developer calls it a WWII simulation and highlights historically sourced battlefields, weapons and vehicles as design aims. Hell Let Loose describes large team battles, combined arms and a shifting front line. Enlisted puts squad control at the center of its play. Those descriptions establish what each game emphasizes; they do not independently verify historical accuracy or establish a neutral realism ranking.

A useful way to choose is to decide which kind of involvement you want: communication and role coordination, large-scale team strategy, or control of a squad whose members can replace one another in combat.

That distinction matters because the word “realistic” can otherwise blur separate questions. A game might present historical equipment, ask players to coordinate over voice, model a large battle, or make a player responsible for several AI squadmates. Those are related aspects of a military shooter, but they are not interchangeable proof that one title is more authentic than another. The official descriptions do not provide a common scoring system or a controlled comparison of the three.

For a practical comparison, treat the developers’ wording as evidence of intended play. Then ask whether that intention suits you: Do you want communication to be a major part of the match? Do you prefer a broad team objective and strategic layer? Or do you want to manage a small AI squad and continue after losing the soldier you control? These questions are more answerable than “Which is objectively the most realistic?”

How the gameplay differs

Squad 44: communication and cohesion

Squad 44 describes itself as a WWII simulation built around large-scale battles. Its official overview says the game has a difficult learning curve and an intense need for cohesion, communication and teamwork. It also identifies in-game voice communications and waypoints as coordination tools. These are signs that the intended experience asks players to work together rather than treat each encounter as an isolated duel.

The developer also presents the game’s battlefields, weapons and vehicles as historically sourced. That is a stated design aim, not an independent assessment of how accurately every detail is represented. For a player, the clearest supported distinction is the combination of simulation emphasis and explicit expectations around learning and team coordination.

The learning-curve statement is useful when setting expectations, but it is not a promise that every player will find the game difficult in the same way. The official overview does not break difficulty down into separate measures such as aiming, map knowledge or vehicle handling. It does, however, make the intended social and organizational demands unusually clear: cohesion and communication are presented as central requirements of the experience. If you prefer to learn a match by coordinating with teammates, that emphasis may be appealing. If you are looking for a shooter that asks little of team communication, the developer’s description is a reason to investigate further before choosing it.

Voice and waypoints also point to two different types of coordination: players can communicate directly, and they have a named in-game tool for marking or following locations. The description does not specify that every match, role or player must use both. It supports saying that these tools are part of the game’s intended coordination, not that a particular microphone, headset or communication routine is mandatory.

Hell Let Loose: large teams, combined arms and a strategic layer

Hell Let Loose describes battles between 50 players on each side, with combined-arms combat and a front line that shifts during a match. Its resource-based, RTS-inspired meta-game adds a strategic layer alongside the fighting. The official overview foregrounds teamwork and out-strategizing the opposing side.

That description supports calling the game coordination-heavy: players are part of a large team, and the match includes strategic elements beyond individual engagements. It does not provide a measured difficulty rating or prove that the game is more or less difficult than Squad 44 or Enlisted.

The game also lists proximity, command and unit voice communications. Those channels indicate that communication is part of its multiplayer structure, but the available information does not establish that every player must use a microphone or that dedicated audio hardware is required.

The 50-versus-50 figure describes the stated battle scale, not a guarantee about the number of people you will encounter at every moment or a claim that every player has the same task. The official overview’s emphasis is on a large match with combined arms, a changing front and a strategic resource layer. A player who wants the feeling of contributing to a broad team effort may find that framing attractive. A player mainly seeking a small-squad experience should note that this is not the defining structure presented in the game description.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The strategic layer is also a reason not to reduce Hell Let Loose to its weapon handling or individual firefights. Its description explicitly puts resources and out-strategizing the opponent alongside combat. That suggests a choice for people who value team plans as part of the match, but it does not tell us exactly how difficult the strategy is to learn or how much influence any one player has. The official description does not provide those measurements, so avoid treating “RTS-inspired” as a guarantee of a particular level of complexity.

Enlisted: control a squad, then continue as another soldier

Enlisted’s defining mechanic is that you lead a squad of AI-controlled soldiers. If the soldier you are controlling is lost, you can switch to another member of that squad and continue. The game combines infantry combat with vehicles and aircraft, so the player’s role is not limited to controlling a single infantry soldier.

This creates a different relationship to combat from a design centered on an individual soldier within a larger team structure. The official descriptions explain the squad and soldier-switching mechanics, but they do not give a comparative realism score or a measured learning curve.

For a prospective player, the key question is whether controlling an AI squad sounds like a feature you want to use, rather than an extra layer you would rather avoid. The defining description is not simply “WWII infantry shooter”: it makes the squad and the ability to take over another member part of how play continues after the controlled soldier is lost. The sources do not establish how the AI behaves in every situation or how that mechanic changes the difficulty, so those details should not be assumed from the premise alone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Enlisted also includes vehicle and aircraft combat according to its official gameplay description. That gives it a combined set of combat types, but it does not make the squad system equivalent to Hell Let Loose’s resource-based strategy layer. One is a stated way of controlling squad members; the other is a stated match-level strategic feature. Keeping those mechanics distinct makes the comparison clearer.

Which game suits which player?

If you want… Start with… Why that is the best-supported fit
A game that explicitly calls itself a WWII simulation and emphasizes communication, cohesion and teamwork Squad 44 Its official overview describes the simulation focus, difficult learning curve, voice communications and waypoints.
Large team battles with a shifting front, combined arms and a strategic resource layer Hell Let Loose Its official description centers on 50-versus-50 matches, combined-arms combat and an RTS-inspired resource meta-game.
Direct control of an AI squad, with the option to take over another member after a soldier is lost Enlisted Squad control and switching between soldiers are defining parts of its official gameplay description.

This is a match between preferences and stated design features, not a ranking. If historical presentation is your main concern, Squad 44’s developer explicitly describes historical sourcing as an aim; that alone does not establish which game is most historically accurate. If you care most about a strategic team front, Hell Let Loose makes that structure explicit. If you prefer a squad mechanic that lets you continue as another soldier, Enlisted is the one that directly offers it.

You can also use the comparison as a short decision process. First, decide whether playing as one soldier or commanding an AI squad sounds more appealing; the latter is Enlisted’s stated hook. Second, consider how much you want communication and cohesion to shape your play: Squad 44 explicitly calls out those needs, and Hell Let Loose lists several voice channels within a large-team format. Third, decide whether a shifting front and resource-based strategy are a draw; those are central parts of Hell Let Loose’s description. This process narrows the choice without pretending the games can be placed on a single scale.

Difficulty deserves its own caution. Squad 44’s developer directly describes a difficult learning curve. That is the strongest supported statement about difficulty among these three descriptions, but it is not a comparative test. The sources do not tell us that Squad 44 is harder than Hell Let Loose or Enlisted, nor do they measure how quickly a new player learns each game. If difficulty is your deciding factor, treat Squad 44’s stated curve as a clear expectation and look for current gameplay details or player guidance for the other titles rather than inferring a ranking.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Historical authenticity is similarly best handled as a question about stated aims. Squad 44’s official overview points to historical sourcing for battlefields, weapons and vehicles. The other descriptions cited here emphasize match format and gameplay mechanics. That difference in description does not prove that either alternative is less historically accurate; it only tells you what the pages foreground. The sources do not independently audit uniforms, equipment, weapon behavior or battle scenarios across the games.

Finally, check practical details beyond the design comparison. The system-requirements figures below are Windows listing values, not a full account of every platform or current availability. Confirm the platform you plan to use and the current store listing for each game. These sources do not establish a three-way price comparison, so verify current pricing and any edition differences directly before making a purchase decision.

Windows PC requirements: the figures available

The following are Windows minimum and recommended requirements listed for Hell Let Loose and Enlisted. They are store requirements, not independent performance tests. They do not promise a particular frame rate, resolution or graphics preset. The cited listings may change, so check the current listing for your region and edition before buying.

Hell Let Loose requirements are from its Steam listing; Enlisted requirements are from its Steam listing. The numbers allow only a partial comparison. Enlisted lists 8 GB of minimum RAM, against 12 GB for Hell Let Loose; its recommended RAM figure is also 8 GB, while Hell Let Loose lists 16 GB recommended. The two graphics entries use different card models, and the fact that one model name has a higher or lower number does not by itself establish how a particular PC will perform. The listings do not provide a shared benchmark or a common test configuration.

Storage is another straightforward planning difference in the cited listings: Hell Let Loose lists 60 GB and Enlisted 49 GB. These figures are installation requirements, not necessarily a prediction of the total space you will want available over time. Allow room for installation and check the current listing, since system requirements can change. No comparable Squad 44 storage figure is confirmed here.

CPU requirements should be read in the same careful way. Hell Let Loose names specific minimum and recommended Intel and AMD processors. Enlisted gives “Intel Core i3 or better” as the minimum and lists Core i5-10400 or Ryzen 5 3600 as recommended. These entries do not tell you whether every processor in a family performs alike, nor do they establish the performance of your exact CPU. Compare the precise hardware in your computer to the current store listing rather than relying on a broad label alone.

How to use the requirements when choosing

Compare your PC with the minimums first

Check your computer’s processor, installed memory, graphics card and available storage against the minimum row for the game you are considering. Based on the listed figures, Enlisted has the lower minimum RAM requirement of the two games with published figures here: 8 GB compared with Hell Let Loose’s 12 GB. Their minimum graphics entries also differ, but the model names are not a substitute for a direct performance comparison of your particular PC.

Do not compare only one component. A PC might have enough RAM but a graphics card or processor that does not meet the listing, or it might meet the listed processor and graphics requirements while lacking free storage. Check each category separately. The table is a convenient first filter, not a compatibility guarantee for every configuration.

If you are considering Squad 44, do not fill in the missing row by guessing from the other two games. Its requirements are not confirmed by the cited game overview, and different games can have different technical demands even when they share a WWII setting or multiplayer format. Locate the current official or store requirements and compare those with your system before purchase.

Do not treat “minimum” as a performance guarantee

A system that meets a minimum specification is not thereby guaranteed to deliver a stable frame rate at a chosen resolution or visual setting. The listings do not state expected performance for particular hardware configurations, and no independent benchmark figures are established here. A listed recommended specification is also not a promise of a particular result.

Minimum and recommended labels answer a limited question: what components the listing associates with those tiers. They do not give a frame-rate target, the visual preset used for a test, or results across different maps and match situations. If a specific resolution or smoothness target matters to you, these specifications alone cannot confirm that your PC will achieve it. Look for a benchmark that tests your exact or closely comparable hardware, and check its date and settings before treating the result as applicable.

Likewise, a comparison between two named graphics cards should not be reduced to the model number alone. The requirements list GTX 960 4 GB and Radeon R9 380 4 GB for Hell Let Loose minimum graphics, and GTX 660 or Radeon 78XX series for Enlisted. Those are the published entries; the listing does not provide a direct side-by-side performance test of the cards. A PC’s full configuration matters, and this guide cannot promise outcomes from the requirement names alone.

Check storage and the current listing

The cited Steam listing gives Hell Let Loose a storage requirement of 60 GB and Enlisted 49 GB. Leave adequate free space and recheck the listing before installation: requirements can change, and a store page may present revised values. For Squad 44, confirm the current requirement directly instead of assuming its needs match either of the other two games.

Also verify that you are viewing the right listing for your platform and intended edition. This comparison uses Windows requirements from Steam for Hell Let Loose and Enlisted. It should not be read as a statement about console requirements, other operating systems, regional availability or current pricing. Those details belong to the current official or store listing for the version you intend to play.

Voice chat and coordination

Communication is explicitly part of Squad 44’s overview, which mentions in-game voice and waypoints, and Hell Let Loose lists proximity, command and unit voice communications. If you plan to use voice chat, a headset with a microphone can make it easier to communicate, but the cited descriptions do not make a dedicated headset a requirement. Enlisted’s defining feature in the official gameplay description is squad control and soldier switching; the cited description does not establish a comparative voice-chat requirement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That makes a headset an optional convenience rather than a prerequisite inferred from the design descriptions. If your current computer or controller setup already provides a microphone and audio, the sources do not give a reason to buy separate hardware just to meet a stated game requirement. No particular headset model, price or required accessory is established here. The useful buying question is whether you want voice communication to be part of how you play, especially in the titles whose descriptions explicitly name it.

Voice channels can also imply different kinds of communication in Hell Let Loose: proximity, command and unit are all listed. The descriptions name those channels but do not explain their exact rules or say that each player must participate in all of them. Similarly, Squad 44’s mention of voice and waypoints supports the idea that players have coordination tools, but does not define a mandatory communication setup. Avoid turning “communication is emphasized” into “a headset is compulsory.”

What the available information does—and does not—settle

  • It establishes distinct design emphases: Squad 44 highlights simulation and team communication; Hell Let Loose describes large-scale combined-arms strategy; Enlisted emphasizes AI squad control and soldier switching.
  • It does not establish a universal realism winner: the official descriptions express each game’s design intent, not a shared independent assessment of historical or mechanical accuracy.
  • It supports only a partial hardware comparison: published Windows requirements are listed here for Hell Let Loose and Enlisted. A comparable current Squad 44 requirement was not confirmed by the cited sources.
  • It does not provide a measured difficulty ranking or benchmark: Squad 44’s developer explicitly describes a difficult learning curve, but the sources do not measure difficulty across all three games or predict performance on a player’s PC.
  • It does not settle every purchase detail: the figures here do not compare current prices, editions, platform availability or regional store terms. Check the listing for the version and platform you intend to use.

The most reliable takeaway is a preference match, followed by a separate hardware check. Choose based on the style of play you want: Squad 44’s stated simulation and communication emphasis, Hell Let Loose’s large team format and strategic layer, or Enlisted’s AI squad control and soldier switching. Then verify your PC against current requirements before buying. Those are two different decisions, and neither needs an unsupported claim that one game is the definitive realism champion.

The Bottom Line

For stated simulation emphasis and an explicitly difficult, communication-focused experience, start with Squad 44. For 50-versus-50 combined-arms matches with a shifting front and resource strategy, consider Hell Let Loose. For AI squad control and the ability to take over another soldier, consider Enlisted. No neutral source here ranks their realism or measures comparative difficulty. On PC, compare your hardware with current listings: the published Windows figures show lower minimum RAM and storage for Enlisted than Hell Let Loose, while Squad 44’s requirements need to be checked separately.
