The printer measured 32 by 32 feet and laid down specially mixed concrete in layers. The project demonstrated how construction-scale printing can form walls without conventional formwork; it was described as a demonstration, not proof that buyers could order a finished, move-in-ready printed home.
How did the printer build a two-story house?
Unlike a desktop 3D printer that makes a small object inside an enclosed machine, Kamp C’s printer was a fixed construction-scale system. Its reported printing envelope was 32 by 32 feet. It deposited specially formulated concrete layer by layer to create the structure, which extended over two stories and measured 980 square feet. Futurism reported these dimensions in 2020.
The method replaces some conventional wall-building steps with a digital deposition process: concrete is extruded where the design calls for it, building up successive layers. The reported project used fibers in the concrete and a limited amount of wire-mesh reinforcement. Because the printer formed the walls directly, conventional formwork was not needed, according to Kamp C project manager Marijke Aerts, as quoted by Futurism.
What was included, and was it a livable home?
The two-story structure included solar panels and underfloor heating. Those features show that the demonstration incorporated some building systems, but they do not establish that it was a completed, occupied home. Futurism characterized the structure as more of a demonstration than a livable house. Kamp C project manager Emiel Ascione described the purpose as demonstrating the technique’s accessibility and potential to the construction industry, rather than presenting it as an ordinary finished-home offering.

Did 3D-printed concrete prove stronger or cheaper?
Aerts told Futurism that the printed material’s compressive strength was three times greater than that of conventional quick-build brick. She also estimated savings of 60% in material, time, and budget, attributing them to the reduced need for formwork. These were project-manager claims reported in 2020, not results of an independent comparative test or cost study described by Futurism. The strength comparison is specifically to conventional quick-build brick; it should not be generalized to all concrete or conventional building methods.

The claims point to plausible advantages of printing—less formwork, targeted material placement, and potentially less time and expense—but the available report does not quantify construction duration, itemize costs, or document an independent structural evaluation. A demonstration can show that a printing process works at a particular scale without establishing that it will be cheaper, faster, or suitable for every building project.
