As of October 18, 2026, Rockstar has not announced an official date or time for the Grand Theft Auto VI review embargo. That means there is no confirmed hour when critics may publish scores, and no authoritative schedule for reviewer gameplay videos or livestreams. Rockstar lists November 19, 2026 as the game’s launch date.
Some coverage expects reviews to appear shortly before launch, possibly about a day beforehand, because that resembles Rockstar’s past practice. That is an expectation, not a commitment. Written reviews, score publication, gameplay clips, livestreams and spoiler restrictions can each have separate rules, so a review date would not automatically authorize every kind of video coverage.
What is confirmed about the GTA 6 schedule
Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI page gives the public release date as November 19, 2026. That is the only firm date readers need for planning around launch. The page describes protagonists whose failed “easy score” places them in a criminal conspiracy across Leonida, but it does not publish a critic-review timetable.

Rockstar has not posted a public review-score embargo date or time. Independent trackers continue to report that critic reviews are unavailable, and a report from GTA Intel describes a possible pre-launch window as an expectation based on earlier Rockstar releases rather than a confirmed arrangement. A preliminary date reported elsewhere should therefore be treated as changeable until Rockstar or Take-Two communicates it directly.

What a review embargo actually controls
A review embargo is a contractual publication restriction. A publisher gives selected outlets access to a game before release, and those outlets agree not to publish particular material until an agreed date and time. The agreement can cover a written review, a numerical score, a video review, screenshots, story details or other forms of coverage.
“The review embargo” is often used as if it were one universal switch, but publishers can separate permissions. An outlet might be allowed to publish a text review at one time, post limited screenshots later, and wait longer before uploading unrestricted gameplay. A livestream can be prohibited even when a written review is allowed. Spoiler rules may also continue after the first review window.
Scores and written reviews
A score embargo normally determines when an outlet may display a rating, recommendation badge or review conclusion. It may be paired with the full written review, or the agreement may specify different times for a score and the accompanying article. Until Rockstar publishes terms, readers cannot infer those details for GTA 6.
Gameplay clips and screenshots
Gameplay footage can expose missions, characters, map areas and other surprises that a written review can describe more selectively. Publishers therefore commonly place separate limits on clip length, mission selection, thumbnails, titles or spoiler warnings. No public Rockstar rule establishes a GTA 6 footage limit, permitted mission list or exact release hour.
Livestreams
A livestream is more difficult to control than an edited review because it can reveal unplanned dialogue, side activities and story events in real time. A reviewer could receive access for evaluation while still being barred from streaming. There is no confirmed public schedule saying when GTA 6 reviewers may stream, whether streams will be allowed before launch, or what areas they may show.

Why the predicted pre-launch window is not a date
Rockstar has previously allowed reviews to appear shortly before a major release, which is why commentators expect a similar pattern for GTA 6. GTA Intel has characterized the roughly one-day-before-launch idea as a reading of that history, not an announcement. Historical behavior can help readers form a tentative plan, but it cannot establish a contractual deadline for a new game.
Embargo arrangements can change when builds, patches, certification, regional distribution or marketing plans change. A date described as preliminary may move earlier, move later or be replaced by launch-day publication. Until Rockstar or Take-Two names a date and time, any countdown presented as certain is speculation.

Readers can think in scenarios rather than rely on a single rumored hour:
- Pre-launch reviews: Rockstar could authorize written scores in the days before November 19, giving buyers time to read criticism before release.
- Very-short lead time: Reviews could arrive close to launch, potentially matching the often-mentioned “about a day before” expectation without guaranteeing that exact interval.
- Launch-day reviews: Rockstar could hold scores until November 19, meaning early buyers would be deciding without completed reviews.
- Staggered coverage: Written reviews could publish while gameplay videos or livestreams remain restricted until another time.
- Post-launch footage: Reviewers might be permitted to discuss the game in text before they can show extensive missions or stream it.
These are publishing patterns, not predictions of what Rockstar will choose. The only fixed public milestone is the launch date shown on Rockstar’s official page.
How to check for the real embargo announcement
Because timing information is volatile, use a source hierarchy rather than a rumor countdown.

- Check Rockstar’s official GTAVI page. Confirm that the launch date and any review or media notice are current.
- Check Rockstar Newswire. An official announcement should identify the date, time zone and the type of material covered, if Rockstar decides to publish those details publicly.
- Look for a direct Take-Two or Rockstar statement. Treat a named company announcement as stronger evidence than an unattributed screenshot or a prediction based on older games.
- Read the wording carefully. “Reviews,” “scores,” “video reviews,” “gameplay,” “streams” and “spoilers” may refer to different permissions.
- Verify the time zone. A legitimate announcement can use a regional time or UTC. Convert it before assuming every outlet can publish simultaneously in your location.
- Recheck close to launch. Embargo conditions, release timing and footage permissions can change, so an early report should not be treated as permanent.
What the absence of an embargo announcement means for buyers
No announced embargo does not prove that the game is in trouble, that reviewers have not received access, or that reviews will be delayed. It only means the public has not been given an authoritative publication schedule. Reviewers can be evaluating a build under private terms while Rockstar withholds the date from the wider audience.
It also means that a preorder decision cannot reasonably be based on a supposed review hour. If the ability to read independent reviews is important to you, waiting until outlets begin publishing is the lower-information-risk choice. If you already know you want the game at launch and accept the possibility of buying before reviews, the lack of a public embargo date does not by itself change the release date.
A practical decision table
| Choice | Information available before payment | Main trade-off | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Preorder before reviews | Official launch information and previews, but no completed critic consensus | You secure a purchase before independent assessments are available | Players who are comfortable with that uncertainty and already intend to play at launch |
| Wait for written reviews | Critics’ evaluations and any publicly permitted score information | You may have less time to arrange launch-day access | Players who want performance, story and value impressions first |
| Wait for gameplay coverage | Whatever footage Rockstar permits, potentially including demonstrations of systems or missions | Footage may be limited, delayed or heavily spoiler-sensitive | Players who need to see the game in motion before buying |
| Wait for post-launch player reports | Reviews plus broader reports about the shipped experience and updates | You give up some launch-week immediacy | Players who prioritize real-world stability and community findings |
The table separates the information you are waiting for. A written review may answer questions about pacing, controls and value without showing enough gameplay for a visual buyer. Conversely, a trailer or short clip cannot replace an independent assessment of a long campaign.
Why a review score can appear before gameplay
Review access is usually designed to let writers finish enough of the game to form an opinion, while footage restrictions protect marketing beats and story surprises. An outlet might therefore publish a full review with only approved screenshots, short clips or no video at all. Another outlet could have permission to upload footage but still delay its score until the agreed review time.
Do not assume that a review appearing online means unrestricted streaming has begun. Look for the outlet’s own disclosure about what it may show and any spoiler cutoff. A title card saying “review” is not evidence that every mission or feature can legally be broadcast.

How to interpret the first GTA 6 reviews
When reviews eventually publish, read the access and spoiler notes before judging the coverage. Early reviews may be based on a pre-release build, and a day-one update or later patch can change technical behavior. That does not make the review invalid; it tells you which version and conditions the critic evaluated.
Separate the review’s observations from its score. Look for concrete discussion of controls, mission structure, performance, accessibility, online features if covered, and whether the reviewer completed enough content to support the conclusion. A predicted Metacritic or aggregate score is not an official result and should not be presented as one.
Questions worth checking in each review
- Does the outlet identify the platform and review build?
- Does it explain how far the critic progressed and where spoilers begin?
- Are performance claims tied to a stated version or update?
- Does the score reflect the review’s reasoning, or is it mainly a reaction to hype?
- Are online or post-launch features discussed as available content, planned content or not evaluated?
Physical PS5 edition and the digital-download code
Rockstar customer-support documentation states that the physical version of GTAVI for PlayStation 5 includes a code redeemable for the digital download. That detail matters if you are comparing disc ownership with a download-only purchase: buying the physical package does not necessarily mean the game data is supplied solely on a disc.
The documentation does not establish a universal price, stock level or regional availability. Those details vary by retailer and market, so confirm them locally rather than treating the code information as a promise about a particular listing. The code detail also does not change the review embargo; access to a physical or digital copy is separate from permission to publish coverage.
What reviewers can and cannot tell you before launch
What a written review can establish
A properly disclosed review can explain how the critic experienced the campaign, whether the major systems work together, how the open world supports the missions, and whether the package delivers the quality expected at launch. It can also identify serious concerns that a marketing trailer cannot show.

What a review may not establish yet
Even a detailed review may not represent long-term online populations, post-launch support or every regional technical condition. If the outlet has limited access to multiplayer or receives a pre-release build, those boundaries should be visible in its methodology. Readers should not fill those gaps with assumptions.
What a stream can add
Permitted gameplay can demonstrate the user interface, driving, combat, exploration and loading behavior more directly than prose. It can also spoil missions and encounters quickly. Because Rockstar has not published a streaming schedule or footage rule, do not plan around a particular creator being live before November 19.
Common mistakes when tracking the embargo
- Turning a rumor into a calendar event: A preliminary or predicted date is not confirmed until Rockstar or Take-Two states it.
- Confusing launch time with review time: The November 19 release date does not reveal when scores may be posted.
- Assuming one permission covers everything: Written scores, edited video, clips, screenshots and livestreams can have different restrictions.
- Using a predicted aggregate score as evidence: Forecasts are not critic results.
- Ignoring the time zone: A stated hour without a location can lead to an incorrect local conversion.
- Relying on an old screenshot: Embargo terms can change, so verify the latest wording from an official channel.
Bottom line for readers waiting on reviews
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, but Rockstar has not publicly set the review-score embargo date or time as of October 18, 2026. A pre-launch review window is plausible because it resembles earlier Rockstar practice, yet it remains unconfirmed. Gameplay-video and livestream permissions are even less clear: no authoritative public schedule or footage limit is available.
Plan your purchase around the type of information you need. Wait for written reviews if you want independent judgments before paying; wait for permitted gameplay if seeing the systems in motion matters more; and treat any rumored hour as provisional until Rockstar or Take-Two publishes the terms.
