Grand Theft Auto VI is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB in the United States. Its listed content includes intense violence, blood and gore, nudity, strong sexual content, strong language, mature humor, and drug and alcohol use. For UK and European readers, GamesRadar reported a PEGI 18 rating with descriptions of graphic violence, drug use, and sexual content. These are different regional ratings, not interchangeable standards; check the rating where you live before deciding whether the game is suitable for your child.
What is GTA 6 rated?
In the United States, the ESRB lists Grand Theft Auto VI as M for Mature 17+. The official listing gives these content descriptors: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. It also lists In-Game Purchases. See the ESRB’s GTA VI rating.
For the UK and Europe, GamesRadar reported on October 2, 2026, that PEGI assigned the game an 18. The report quotes the rating description as citing strong graphic violence, strong sexual themes, and illegal drug use. It also reports specific references to decapitation and dismemberment, player drug use, scenes of intercourse, sexual fetishes, and sexualized interactions in clubs. Those details are attributed here to GamesRadar’s account of the PEGI description; consult the current GamesRadar report and regional listing for the wording available in your territory.
ESRB M 17+ and PEGI 18 are categories from separate regional systems. Their numbers should not be read as equivalent legal or developmental thresholds. PlayStation notes that game ratings vary by country, so use the rating and descriptors shown for your region rather than assuming one system applies everywhere. PlayStation’s GTA VI page includes its parent-facing guidance.

What the content descriptors mean for parents
The US descriptors identify the kinds of content the ESRB associates with the game; they do not, on their own, explain how often each element appears, whether a player can avoid it, or how a particular child may respond. For the UK and Europe, the graphic examples above are reported from the PEGI description through GamesRadar. Do not treat a rating as a scene-by-scene guide or assume that every described element is frequent or mandatory unless the rating text says so.
PlayStation says Grand Theft Auto games regularly include profanity, violence, sexual themes, and depictions of illegal acts, and are generally not recommended for children. A parent’s decision can account for the child’s age, sensitivities, and family expectations alongside the regional rating. The available US rating also includes In-Game Purchases, but that descriptor alone does not establish the full purchase design or whether online features will be available at launch.

How to make a decision for your child
- Check the local listing. Look up the game in the rating system used where you live and read all content descriptors, not just the age category.
- Consider the specific concerns that matter to your family. The US listing names violence and gore, sexual content and nudity, language, mature humor, and drug and alcohol use. The reported PEGI description gives more graphic examples for the UK and Europe.
- Use account restrictions where appropriate. PlayStation says accounts can be age restricted using its Family App. Check the current family and account settings on the platform your child uses; account controls do not replace a suitability decision.
- Recheck close to release. GTA VI is listed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with a November 19, 2026 release date. Ratings, store pages, and release details can change before release, so confirm the current regional entry and platform information before purchase.
Platforms and release date
Rockstar lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a November 19, 2026 release date. PlayStation says the game will not be playable on PS4. These platform details are separate from age suitability: a console’s availability does not change the rating. See the current listings from Rockstar Games, PlayStation, and Xbox.
