Google Play’s 2026 updates make it easier to find Windows games and, for select paid titles, buy once to play both the Android and PC versions. Trials are a separate, limited feature: Google said they were rolling out on mobile first, and its current consumer page describes them as available for select paid mobile games. Google has not confirmed general availability of PC trials.

What changed in Google Play’s 2026 update?

In a March 11, 2026 announcement, Google described new ways to discover and purchase paid games across Android and Windows PC. The changes include a dedicated PC-games destination in the Play Store’s Games tab, mobile trials for select paid games, and a single-purchase offer for a selection of titles. These are distinct features: a game appearing in the PC catalog does not mean it has a trial or that its Android purchase includes a PC version.

The PC section is intended to highlight games optimized for Windows PCs. Google also said players could wishlist games and receive sale notifications. The announcement connected the update to a broader effort to make it easier to find paid games; Google said 160 million gamers used the You tab monthly after mobile and PC gaming were integrated there the previous September. That is a company-reported figure, not an independent measurement. Google’s March 11 announcement has the launch context.

How do Game Trials work?

For eligible paid games, a trial lets you start playing without paying upfront. Google’s current developer FAQ describes a trial of up to 60 minutes. The timer starts on the first launch and keeps running if you close the game. When the time expires, the game prompts you to buy it. If you purchase the full game, your progress carries over. The consumer page limits availability to select paid games, so check the game’s Play listing for a trial option before relying on one. Google Play Console’s developer FAQ describes the mechanics; Google’s consumer page describes the current consumer scope.

Mobile availability is not PC availability

Google’s March 11 announcement said mobile trials were rolling out soon and that support for Google Play Games on PC would come in the future. Its April 23 Q1 recap later reported select paid trials available, while the current consumer page still describes trials for select paid games on mobile. Those updates do not establish that PC trials are generally available. Treat the trial as a mobile feature unless the individual PC game listing explicitly says otherwise.

Trial details that matter before starting

  • Time limit: Up to 60 minutes under the current developer FAQ; the clock begins at first launch and continues while the app is closed.
  • Payment: No payment is needed to begin the trial.
  • Progress: Progress carries over if you buy the full game.
  • Availability: Trials are for select paid games, not every paid title.

Google’s developer FAQ says trials are handled through the Android App Bundle and require no separate demo build or developer integration. It lists Play App Signing, an .aab package, and API level 21 or higher among developer setup requirements. New paid games have trials on by default, while existing games can enable them in Play Console. Those are developer-facing details, not additional steps consumers need to take.

What does “buy once, play anywhere” include?

For selected paid titles, one purchase unlocks both the mobile and PC versions. In Google’s March announcement, Aurash Mahbod, Vice President and General Manager of Games on Google Play, said: “With a single purchase on Play, you’ll receive both the mobile and PC versions of a game.” The offer is limited to participating titles; an Android purchase does not automatically include a PC copy across the Play catalog.

Google named Reigns, OTTTD and Dungeon Clawler in March. Its April 23 Q1 recap also listed Brotato: Premium. The examples are a dated company list, not a guarantee that every edition or regional listing currently participates. Check the specific game’s store listing to confirm what a purchase includes. Google’s Q1 2026 recap provides the later examples and rollout checkpoint.

How does progress sync between devices?

Google Play Games can synchronize progress across devices for compatible games, but this is not universal. Google’s consumer page qualifies cross-device progress as dependent on select games and compatible devices. A game can be available on both platforms without necessarily supporting the same save or profile on each. Before switching devices, check the game’s listing and any in-game account or cloud-save settings; do not assume that local progress will transfer.

What games are available on PC versus mobile?

Availability varies by game and platform. Google Play’s PC section is a destination for Windows-optimized games, while the mobile Play Store offers Android titles; some paid titles participate in the cross-platform purchase offer. These categories can overlap, but they are not interchangeable.

Can your Windows PC run Google Play Games?

Google’s current consumer page says Google Play Games on PC is available in more than 140 regions, subject to an eligible device. Its published minimum requirements are:

  • Windows 10, version 2004
  • 10 GB of available storage on an SSD
  • Four physical CPU cores
  • 8 GB of RAM
  • Intel UHD Graphics 630 or comparable graphics
  • A Windows administrator account
  • Hardware virtualization turned on

Meeting these minimums does not guarantee that every game will run identically or that a particular title is supported on a particular machine. The same consumer page is the place to check Google’s current requirements and regional availability: Google Play Games: play games across mobile and PC.

What Google announced about upcoming games

The March 2026 announcement named Moonlight Peaks, Sledding Game and Low-Budget Repairs among upcoming paid titles. That was a dated announcement, not confirmation of their current release status. Google’s developer post said Low-Budget Repairs was scheduled for 2027 at the time. Check current store listings for availability rather than treating those dates as current release information. The Android Developers Blog announcement gives the developer-side context, including the original timing.
