Choose based first on the phone you own and the watch ecosystem you want: Pixel Watch 5 is the straightforward option for someone who prefers Google’s watch experience, while Galaxy Watch9 makes more sense for someone who prefers Samsung’s. Before buying, confirm your phone meets the chosen watch’s requirements, then compare size, connectivity and local pricing. This is a feature-and-fit decision, not a proven performance ranking.
Check phone compatibility first
Both watches are Android-focused, but their stated minimum requirements differ. Google says Pixel Watch 5 works with most phones running Android 12 or newer and requires a Google Account and the Pixel Watch app. Samsung’s Mexico compatibility table lists Android 13 or newer and at least 1.5 GB of RAM for Galaxy Watch9, and says it does not support iOS. Samsung cautions that compatibility can vary by region and device, so check the local compatibility information for your exact phone before purchasing.
| Requirement | Google Pixel Watch 5 | Samsung Galaxy Watch9 |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum phone software | Most phones with Android 12 or newer; Google, 2026 specifications | Android 13 or newer; Samsung Mexico compatibility table, 2026 |
| Other stated requirements | Google Account and Pixel Watch app; Google, 2026 specifications | At least 1.5 GB RAM; Samsung Mexico compatibility table, 2026 |
| iPhone support | Not stated in the cited Google specifications | Not supported; Samsung Mexico compatibility table, 2026 |
Match the size to your wrist and the connectivity you need
Pixel Watch 5: two case sizes
Google lists Pixel Watch 5 in 41 mm and 45 mm sizes. The official specifications describe an Actua 360 LTPO AMOLED display with brightness up to 3,000 nits, a 5 ATM water-resistance rating and IP68 protection. Those are Pixel Watch 5 specifications; equivalent Galaxy Watch9 screen and construction details are not stated in the Samsung sources cited here.
Galaxy Watch9: check the exact variant
The Samsung source cited here provides a 40 mm battery figure, but does not supply a complete set of Watch9 size and connectivity specifications for a direct match with Pixel Watch 5. Check Samsung’s local product page for the exact case size and model variant you intend to buy.

Pixel Watch 5 is listed with Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and LTE options. Google also lists Bluetooth 6.0, Wi-Fi, NFC, UWB, satellite SOS communication and dual-frequency GPS. These listed capabilities do not by themselves establish that every function works in every country or with every carrier; verify local availability and the exact model before relying on phone-free features. The cited Samsung pages do not establish a comparable Watch9 connectivity list.
Battery figures do not establish a runtime winner
Google lists a 332 mAh battery for the 41 mm Pixel Watch 5 and a 465 mAh battery for the 45 mm model. Its stated estimates with always-on display enabled are up to 30 hours for the 41 mm watch and up to 40 hours for the 45 mm watch. These are Google estimates, not results from a matched independent test; Google’s launch announcement describes pre-production testing with a specified usage profile.

Samsung reports a 390 mAh battery for the 40 mm Galaxy Watch9 and says that capacity is 20% larger than the comparable Watch8 battery and 30% larger than those of Watch7 and Watch6. The cited Samsung material does not give a corresponding controlled runtime estimate for Watch9. Battery capacity and manufacturer runtime estimates are different kinds of measurements, so these figures cannot establish which watch lasts longer in comparable daily use.
Choose by ecosystem, and verify specific health features
Google presents Pixel Watch 5 around Google Health, sleep and fitness features, and Gemini Intelligence. Samsung discusses Samsung Health and its stated health insights for Galaxy Watch9. That distinction can help guide your choice if you already prefer one company’s software experience.
