Yes—recent Google Pixel phones support eSIM, but activation depends on your carrier and device model. Call Screen availability changes by country and whether screening is automatic or manually started. Wireless charging is model-specific, with Qi2 arriving on Pixel 10 and later except Pixel 10a. Google offers mail-in and walk-in repairs in supported markets, while self-repair is available for eligible phones with genuine parts. Newer Pixels receive seven years of operating-system, security and Pixel Drop updates, but older generations have different support periods.
Does Google Pixel support eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital SIM embedded in the phone. Pixel phones can use one when the mobile carrier supports eSIM activation for that device and plan. A carrier may ask for the phone’s IMEI or another device identifier before completing the transfer.
Set up an eSIM during Pixel onboarding
- When the setup wizard asks how to connect to a mobile network, choose Download SIM.
- Select Set up and follow the carrier’s activation prompts. Depending on the carrier, you may scan a QR code, confirm account details or approve a transfer from another phone.
- Wait for the network to activate, then place a test call and send a mobile-data message before finishing setup.
Add an eSIM after setup
Use this current Pixel path:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Network & internet.
- Choose SIMs, then Add SIM.
- Select Set up an eSIM and complete the carrier’s instructions.
If the transfer fails repeatedly, contact the carrier rather than repeatedly deleting and re-adding the profile. The carrier must provision the line correctly, and some providers require an IMEI or device-ID check before they will issue an eSIM.

Pixel 7 and later models may use two eSIM profiles when the carrier permits that configuration. “May” is important: the phone’s capability does not override carrier rules, regional restrictions or the plan’s dual-SIM policy. Ask the carrier whether both profiles can be used with your specific account and which line is assigned to calls, texts and data.

Can Pixel screen spam calls?
Yes. Google’s Call Screen lets you find out who is calling and why before deciding whether to answer. Screening happens on the device and does not use Wi‑Fi or mobile data, but availability is controlled by country, SIM region and the screening mode offered there.
Where is automatic Call Screen available?
Google lists automatic screening for SIMs from these countries:
| Automatic screening availability |
|---|
| Australia |
| Canada |
| Ireland |
| United Kingdom |
| United States |
Automatic screening can answer qualifying calls for you and show the caller’s response before you pick up. The exact behavior can vary with the Phone app version and the carrier’s supported region.

Where is manual Call Screen available?
Manual screening is listed for Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. A SIM from a supported country is required, so being physically present in one of these countries is not by itself enough if the SIM is issued elsewhere.

Turn on Call Screen
- Update the Google Phone app from its app store listing.
- Open Phone and tap More (the three-dot menu).
- Choose Settings, then Spam and Call Screen or Call Screen, depending on the app version.
- Review the available automatic and manual options and enable the protection level you want.
On Pixel 7 and later, the Phone app exposes protection controls for suspected spam, possibly faked numbers and first-time callers. If the Call Screen menu is missing, check the Phone app update, the country associated with the SIM and whether your carrier supports the feature. Changing language or other general phone settings will not bypass a country or carrier restriction.
Which Pixel phones charge wirelessly?
Google lists wireless charging on Pixel 3 and later, with five exceptions: Pixel 3a, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 5a (5G) and Pixel 6a. Always check the exact model number before buying a charging stand, because phones in the same family do not necessarily share charging hardware.
Qi and Qi2 compatibility by generation
| Pixel models | Wireless standard or support stated by Google | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Pixel 3 and later, excluding 3a, 4a, 4a (5G), 5a (5G) and 6a | Wireless charging supported; charger capability is model-specific | The excluded models do not charge wirelessly |
| Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL | Qi-certified charging and Pixel Stand (2nd generation) rates listed below | Actual power varies with charger, case, heat and alignment |
| Pixel 10 and later | Qi2 support | Pixel 10a is excluded; these phones do not work with Pixel Stand (1st or 2nd generation) |
How fast does the Pixel 9 series charge wirelessly?
Google’s current hardware specifications list these maximums with the second-generation Pixel Stand:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute| Phone | Maximum with Pixel Stand (2nd generation) | Maximum with Qi-certified EPP charger |
|---|---|---|
| Pixel 9 | Up to 15 W | Up to 12 W |
| Pixel 9 Pro | Up to 21 W | Up to 12 W |
| Pixel 9 Pro XL | Up to 23 W | Up to 12 W |
These are stated maximums, not guaranteed charging speeds. A thick or poorly aligned case, elevated device temperature, a low-output adapter or a charger that does not negotiate the required profile can reduce the rate. Pixel 10 and later’s Qi2 support also does not make them compatible with older Pixel Stand hardware.

How can I get a Pixel repaired?
Google’s repair route depends on your country, warranty status, phone model and type of damage. In supported markets, you may be offered mail-in service, walk-in service or both. The available partner and route are shown when you start a repair request for your location.
Get a repair estimate
- Start Google’s Pixel repair request and identify the phone with its IMEI.
- Describe the damage accurately, including broken glass, display problems, liquid exposure, charging faults or other symptoms.
- Review the estimate and available service method for your country before shipping or visiting a repair location.
There is no single worldwide Pixel repair price. The estimate can change with warranty coverage, the damage selected, the repair partner and local pricing. A quoted amount for one country or model should not be treated as a price for another.
Prepare the phone before service
- Back up photos, messages, authenticator data and other important content.
- Remove the physical SIM. If the phone uses eSIM, transfer or otherwise handle the profile as your carrier instructs.
- Use Repair Mode when the model and software offer it. This limits access to personal data while technicians test the device.
- Record the phone’s condition and remove accessories that you do not want to ship.
Follow the instructions in the repair confirmation for packaging, shipping labels and data handling. Walk-in availability is not universal, so do not travel to a repair partner until the repair request confirms that location and service type.
Can I repair a Pixel myself?
For eligible models, yes. Google says genuine spare parts are available through iFixit, along with step-by-step repair guides and the tools needed for supported jobs. The supported-device list includes Pixel 2 and later phones, subject to regional exclusions.
What self-repair requires
- A repairable model and a part that is available for your region.
- The correct genuine replacement part, guide and tool set for that exact model.
- A clean, well-lit workspace and a way to keep screws and small components organized.
- Relevant technical experience. Google recommends that users have suitable repair knowledge before opening the phone.
Self-repair can avoid shipping time and may be useful after a warranty period, but it transfers the risk to you. Opening the phone, damaging a cable or failing to restore seals can affect later water resistance and may change warranty or service eligibility. If you are not comfortable following the guide precisely, an authorized repair route is safer.
How many years of updates does a Pixel get?
Google’s current hardware specifications promise seven years of operating-system, security and Pixel Drop updates for recent Pixel generations. The clock starts when that specific model first becomes available on the Google Store in the United States, not when you personally buy it.
What the seven-year promise includes
| Update category | What the policy covers | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Operating-system updates | New Android platform releases within the stated support period | The end date is tied to first US Google Store availability for the model |
| Security updates | Security fixes during the same stated period | Support is model-specific, not a blanket promise for every Pixel ever made |
| Pixel Drop updates | Eligible feature releases identified as Pixel Drops | Feature timing and eligibility can vary by model, region and carrier |
Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are examples for which Google states the seven-year period from each model’s first US Google Store availability. Older generations have different policies; Google’s specifications page shows five-year or other support periods for earlier phones. Check the entry for your exact model rather than applying the newest promise retroactively.

| Decision area | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| eSIM | Whether your carrier supports eSIM for the model, whether an IMEI confirmation is required and whether two eSIM profiles are allowed | A compatible phone cannot activate an unsupported carrier configuration |
| Call Screen | Whether your SIM country is on the automatic or manual list and whether your model exposes the relevant controls | Screening mode and availability differ by country |
| Wireless charging | Whether the exact model supports wireless charging, Qi or Qi2, and the stated wattage with your charger | Several “a” models lack wireless charging, and Pixel 10a is not Qi2-compatible |
| Repairs | Mail-in or walk-in coverage in your country, warranty terms and the IMEI-based estimate | Service choices and prices are local, not universal |
| Updates | The model’s first US Google Store availability and the support period shown for that generation | Newer seven-year coverage does not apply automatically to older Pixels |
What are the most common Pixel support mistakes?
- Assuming every carrier supports eSIM: activation is a carrier function, so confirm compatibility before deleting a working physical SIM.
- Expecting Call Screen while roaming: the supported-SIM-country rule can prevent the feature even when you are temporarily in a listed country.
- Buying a charger by wattage alone: the phone, charging standard, adapter and temperature all affect the result.
- Sending a phone without a backup: repair preparation should happen before shipping, not after the device is already with a technician.
- Using the seven-year figure for every Pixel: calculate support from the policy attached to your exact generation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I move an existing number to a Pixel eSIM without visiting a store?
Often, yes, if your carrier supports remote eSIM transfer. The carrier may still require account verification, a QR code or the phone’s IMEI, and the process can fail when the line or region is not eligible.
Why does my Pixel show no Call Screen option even after I update the Phone app?
Call Screen is gated by the country associated with the SIM and by carrier support. A current app alone cannot enable it for an unsupported SIM region; check the carrier and country eligibility before troubleshooting the handset.
Will a magnetic Qi2 charger work with a Pixel that only supports ordinary Qi?
Qi2-specific alignment and accessory features are not a guarantee of compatibility with earlier Pixels. Match the charger to the exact phone’s stated wireless standard, and verify whether a case changes alignment or heat.
How do I know whether a repair quote will change after inspection?
The initial amount is based on the IMEI, the damage description, warranty status, partner and location. If technicians find damage that was not included in the request, the final service decision can differ, so review the terms shown before authorizing work.
