Google Flow is a new AI video generator meant for filmmakers – how to try it today: use a desktop Chromium browser, sign in with an eligible Google account, and create a project after confirming that you are 18 or older and in a supported region. Google AI Plus, Pro, Ultra, and some Workspace plans provide access.

Flow has changed substantially since Google introduced it on May 20, 2025. The current product combines Veo video generation with Gemini prompting, Imagen image tools, reusable ingredients, camera direction, frame and reference workflows, editing, and scene assembly. Credit costs and supported features vary, so Google’s live support pages and the cost shown inside Flow matter more than older launch guides.

Key takeaways

  • Google Flow is a filmmaking workspace built around Veo, Imagen, and Gemini, rather than only a text-to-video prompt box.
  • As of August 14, 2026, Flow generally requires users to be at least 18, live in a supported region, and use Google AI Plus, Pro, Ultra, or a qualifying Workspace plan.
  • Google provides 50 daily credits to users without a paid Google AI plan; paid plans provide 200, 1,000, 10,000, or 25,000 monthly credits depending on the membership.
  • Flow includes text, frame, and ingredient/reference-based generation, camera direction, scene assembly, editing, and image-generation features.
  • Audio and advanced editing are available in some workflows, but Google describes parts of the audio experience as experimental or model-dependent.
  • Flow outputs include invisible SynthID watermarking, while visible Veo watermarks depend on the plan and local regulations.

What is Google Flow?

Google Flow is an AI filmmaking workspace for creating and assembling cinematic clips, scenes, and stories with Google’s Veo video models, Imagen image generation, and Gemini-powered prompting. Google introduced Flow on May 20, 2025, describing it as a tool designed around filmmakers and creative control rather than a single text-to-video generation box.

Google’s launch description called Flow “a new AI filmmaking tool built with creatives for the next wave of storytelling.” The statement came from Tom Hume, Director of Product Management at Google DeepMind; Matthew Carey, Director of Google Creative Lab; and Thomas Iljic, Director of Product Management at Google Labs, in Google’s May 20, 2025 Flow announcement.

The central idea is consistency. A creator can save reusable “ingredients”—such as a character, object, location, visual style, or other reference—and use those ingredients across multiple shots. Flow also adds camera controls, asset management, scene-building tools, and Flow TV, where users can inspect generated examples and their prompts.

How do you try Google Flow today?

To try Google Flow, confirm your age and country eligibility, use a desktop Chromium-based browser, sign in with an eligible Google account, create a project, choose a model and generation mode, and check the displayed credit cost before submitting a generation.

  1. Check access requirements. Google says Flow users must be at least 18 years old and located in a supported region. Most individual users need Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro, or Google AI Ultra. Some qualifying Google Workspace plans can also provide access, in some cases with daily credits at no extra charge. See Google’s current Flow access requirements before subscribing.
  2. Check the country list before paying. Flow is not available in every country where Google AI Pro is offered. The United States is listed as a supported region, but availability and features can change by country. Google also says a VPN will not enable Flow in an unsupported region. Use the current Google Flow supported-country list rather than relying on an older launch announcement.
  3. Open Flow on a desktop. Google recommends a desktop computer with a Chromium-based browser such as Chrome or Edge for the fullest editing experience. Flow may work on mobile devices and other browsers, but Google says those environments are not fully optimized and can produce bugs or unexpected behavior.
  4. Start a project. Sign in, create a project, select the generation mode, and choose the active model. The interface and labels can change as Google updates Flow.
  5. Review the cost before generating. Check the selected model, duration, output settings, and credit cost shown in Flow. Generation costs depend on the model and generation type, and one request can produce multiple generations.
  6. Begin with one short test shot. Describe a simple subject, a clear action, a camera direction, and one visual reference. A small test reveals how the selected model handles the look before you spend credits planning an entire sequence.

Do you need Google AI Pro to use Flow?

You do not necessarily need Google AI Pro because Google’s current documentation lists Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro, and Google AI Ultra as individual access routes, while qualifying Workspace plans can also qualify. Users without one of those paid plans may receive a limited daily allowance for supported generations, subject to Google’s current rules.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the plan based on the amount of experimentation you expect, not merely the name of the model. Google’s credit allocations are the more useful comparison:

Access route Flow credit allocation Important qualification
No Google AI Plus, Pro, or Ultra plan 50 credits per day Supports eligible Veo 3.1 Lite, Fast, and Quality generations; daily credits do not roll over.
Google AI Plus 200 credits per month Monthly Flow credits do not roll over.
Google AI Pro 1,000 credits per month Monthly Flow credits do not roll over.
Google AI Ultra, $100 plan 10,000 credits per month Plan and availability details can change.
Google AI Ultra, $200 plan 25,000 credits per month Plan and availability details can change.
Qualifying Workspace plan May include daily credits Eligibility depends on the Workspace subscription and Google’s current availability rules.

According to Google’s 2026 Flow credit documentation, the free allowance is 50 credits per day, Google AI Plus provides 200 monthly credits, Google AI Pro provides 1,000 monthly credits, and the listed Google AI Ultra plans provide 10,000 or 25,000 monthly credits. Google can change these allocations, so the account and in-product credit display are the final practical reference.

Is Google Flow free?

Google Flow has a limited free option, but Flow is not unlimited for free users. Google says users without Google AI Plus, Pro, or Ultra receive 50 Flow credits per day for supported Veo 3.1 Lite, Fast, and Quality generations. Free daily credits expire rather than carrying into the next day.

Paid access provides monthly credits, but paid credits also do not roll over. The cost is charged per generation rather than necessarily per request. A single request can create multiple generations, so the number of clips produced by an action can affect how quickly credits are used.

Example generation Listed cost How to interpret it
Veo 3.1 Lite for non-Ultra subscribers 10 credits A lower-cost option for exploration, subject to current settings and eligibility.
Veo 3.1 Fast 20 credits A faster-generation option in Google’s current examples.
Veo 3.1 Quality 100 credits A higher-cost option intended for higher-quality output.

These examples come from Google’s current credit table, but the active Flow interface should take precedence because costs can vary by model and generation type. Before confirming a request, inspect the displayed cost instead of applying an old universal price chart.

Which models does Google Flow use?

Google’s current Flow model documentation lists Veo 3.1 Lite, Veo 3.1 Fast, Veo 3.1 Quality, and Gemini Omni Flash. Model selection matters because available durations, aspect ratios, reference workflows, audio support, editing functions, and credit costs can differ.

Decision What to choose Why it matters
Rapid visual exploration A faster or lower-cost model, such as a listed Lite or Fast option Useful when testing many ideas before committing more credits.
Higher-quality output A Quality option when available Google’s current examples show a higher credit cost for Veo 3.1 Quality.
Beginning or ending composition Frames to Video Useful when the first frame, last frame, or both need to guide the shot.
Recurring characters or objects Ingredients or References to Video Uses saved or supplied visual references across shots.
Simple concept development Text-to-video or image generation Lets the creator explore an idea before building a sequence.

The current Google Flow model and feature documentation is the reliable place to check supported lengths, aspect ratios, reference modes, and model-specific capabilities. Do not assume that a feature visible in one model is available in every model.

What can filmmakers do in Flow?

Flow supports a filmmaking workflow that moves from an idea to references, individual shots, and a connected scene.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Describe a shot conversationally. Gemini-powered prompting is intended to let creators explain a visual idea in natural language rather than construct a technical API request.
  2. Create or upload ingredients. Ingredients can represent recurring characters, props, environments, styles, or other visual references.
  3. Generate from several inputs. Depending on the selected workflow and model, Flow supports text-to-video, Frames to Video, Ingredients or References to Video, and image-generation workflows.
  4. Direct the camera. Camera controls let the creator specify movement, angles, and perspectives, helping turn a static visual description into a directed shot.
  5. Assemble a sequence. Scenebuilder and related editing tools are designed to connect clips into a longer narrative rather than leave each generation as an isolated file.
  6. Refine individual shots. Google’s October 2025 update described more precise editing, Insert, Extend, Frames to Video, Ingredients to Video, and richer audio. Some features are experimental or depend on the selected model.

Google’s February 25, 2026 update describes Flow as a broader image-and-video workspace. Google says Nano Banana image generation was integrated into Flow, generated images could be used as ingredients and frames, and a lasso tool enabled natural-language edits to images. The February 2026 Flow update documents that change.

Can Google Flow make full videos?

Flow can help create a sequence of clips and assemble scenes, but the available evidence supports describing Flow as a filmmaking workspace—not promising that one prompt reliably produces a finished feature-length film. Video length, generation mode, model support, editing tools, and consistency vary.

For a multi-shot project, establish the ingredients first, reuse those references, and use Frames to Video when a beginning or ending composition matters. Connect clips with the scene-building tools, then refine individual shots. Reusing ingredients can support visual continuity, but generated results can still vary from shot to shot.

Google’s product trajectory illustrates the expansion. Google reported more than 35 million videos generated in its June 25, 2025 getting-started article, more than 275 million videos generated in Flow in October 2025, and over 1.5 billion images and videos generated in February 2026. Those are company-reported usage figures, not independent adoption measurements; the figures are documented in Google’s launch announcement, the October 2025 Veo 3.1 update, and the February 2026 Flow update.

Can Flow generate dialogue and sound effects?

Flow can generate some speech, sound effects, and background audio, but Google describes audio generation as experimental and says results may vary. Google’s July 10, 2025 update announced generated speech for Frames to Video and said Veo 3 supported sound effects and background noise.

Google’s October 15, 2025 Veo 3.1 update described richer audio and audio support across Ingredients to Video, Frames to Video, and Extend. Audio support remains model-dependent, so creators should not promise reliable dialogue, perfect lip synchronization, or production-ready sound for every generation. Test the audio behavior with the selected model before designing a scene around spoken lines. See Google’s speech and country-expansion announcement and its Veo 3.1 Flow update.

Where is Google Flow available?

Google announced an expansion to more than 140 countries in July 2025, but the live support documentation is more useful for current availability. The current country list warns that Flow is not available everywhere Google AI Pro is offered and that individual features can differ by country.

Does Google Flow have a watermark?

Yes. Google’s current Flow help documentation says all outputs made with Veo and Imagen include invisible SynthID watermarks. Videos generated on Free, Plus, and Pro tiers contain a visible Veo watermark; Ultra watermark visibility depends on local regulations.

The watermark distinction matters if you plan to publish, pitch, or license a video. The Google documentation supports the existence and placement of these watermarks, but it does not establish authorship, copyright ownership, or that SynthID can never be removed. Review the current Flow access and output documentation for the applicable plan rules.

What should you know before uploading creative assets?

Review Flow’s data controls before uploading unreleased scripts, client footage, confidential product designs, personal data, or other sensitive material. Google says that when “Help improve Google Flow” is enabled, Google may use Flow interactions, uploads, generated output, related feature usage, and feedback to provide, improve, and develop Google products and machine-learning technologies.

Google advises users not to enter confidential information they would not want a reviewer to see or Google to use. The practical step is to open the current privacy controls, understand whether the improvement setting is enabled, and avoid uploading material that requires confidentiality unless your organisation has approved the use. This is a prudent workflow recommendation, not independent legal advice; read Google’s Flow data and privacy documentation for the current controls.

Is Google Flow worth trying for filmmakers?

Flow is most compelling for filmmakers who want to explore shots, preserve recurring visual references, direct camera movement, and assemble generated clips in one workspace. Flow is less suitable as a promise of predictable, finished production output because model capabilities, audio quality, continuity, credit costs, watermarks, and availability can change.

A sensible evaluation workflow is to use the lowest-cost suitable model for visual exploration, create a small set of ingredients, test one frame- or reference-driven shot, inspect the audio and watermark behavior, and only then spend more credits on a sequence. That approach reveals whether Flow fits the project without treating Google’s product descriptions as an independent performance benchmark.

Google Flow versus Veo: what is the difference?

Veo is Google’s generative video model family, while Flow is the filmmaking workspace that gives creators ways to use Veo alongside references, camera controls, editing, scene assembly, and related image-generation tools. In other words, Veo helps generate video; Flow organises the creative process around generation.

Term What it refers to How a filmmaker encounters it
Veo Google’s AI video-generation model family Selected as a model or used by Flow’s generation features.
Imagen Google’s image-generation technology Used for images, ingredients, frames, and image-based creative development in Flow.
Gemini Google’s multimodal AI technology Supports conversational prompting and creative interaction.
Flow The filmmaking and creative workspace Combines generation, references, camera direction, editing, assets, and scene assembly.

Bottom line

Google Flow is worth trying if you want a structured AI filmmaking workspace rather than a standalone prompt-to-video tool. Start with a supported account and browser, verify your country, test a short shot, inspect the live credit cost and model capabilities, and treat audio, continuity, watermarks, and privacy settings as production considerations—not afterthoughts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Google Flow free?

Google Flow is not completely free. Users without Google AI Plus, Pro, or Ultra receive 50 credits per day for supported generations, while paid plans provide monthly credits that do not roll over. Google’s in-product cost display is the final reference because costs vary by model and generation type.

Do I need Google AI Pro to use Flow?

Google Flow does not universally require Google AI Pro. Google lists Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro, and Google AI Ultra as individual access routes, and qualifying Workspace plans may also qualify. Eligibility depends on age, country, account type, and current Google availability rules.

Can Google Flow generate dialogue and sound effects?

Google Flow can generate some speech, sound effects, and background audio, but Google describes audio generation as experimental and says results may vary. Audio support also depends on the selected model and workflow, so reliable dialogue and lip synchronization should not be assumed.

Does Google Flow add a watermark?

Google Flow outputs include invisible SynthID watermarks. Videos made on Free, Plus, and Pro tiers contain a visible Veo watermark, while Ultra visibility depends on local regulations.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Google Flow is a filmmaking workspace built around Veo, Imagen, and Gemini. As of August 14, 2026, access generally requires being 18 or older, living in a supported region, and using an eligible Google AI or Workspace plan, although limited free daily credits may be available. Check Google’s live support pages and the in-product credit display before paying or generating.
