To get started with the Blynk app, create a Blynk account, configure a device template and mobile dashboard, connect compatible hardware with the appropriate credentials, then test the device-to-cloud connection. The app is the control and monitoring interface—not a way to connect arbitrary hardware without device firmware and a configured Blynk project.
What you need before opening the app
A working Blynk project connects four pieces: the mobile app, a device template and its configuration, firmware on compatible hardware, and Blynk.Cloud. The device sends information through configured datastreams, and the app presents that information or sends controls back to the device. Blynk describes its iOS and Android apps as tools to “remotely control connected devices and visualize data from them” (Blynk overview).
- A Blynk account: You can create one using Blynk.Console or Blynk.App for iOS or Android.
- Compatible hardware and firmware: Blynk’s Quickstart lists ESP32, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi as examples. Choose a specific board only after checking the project’s firmware, connectivity, and pin requirements.
- Basic setup familiarity: The Quickstart assumes you can work with basic circuitry, such as blinking an LED on an Arduino board, and install Arduino libraries.
The app by itself does not make an unconfigured board connect. You need firmware that communicates with Blynk and a device setup that matches it (Blynk Quickstart).
Create a template for your device
A Device Template is a shared configuration for devices of a similar type. As Blynk puts it, “A Device Template is a collection of configurations shared by devices of a similar type.” Devices created from a template inherit its setup, while the template’s datastreams and dashboard widgets define how information and controls are connected.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- In Blynk.App, turn on Developer Mode.
- Create a Device Template or open one you are authorized to edit.
- Give it a name, then choose the hardware and connectivity that match your project.
- Note the template’s ID and firmware configuration; your device firmware must use the corresponding project settings.
- Set up the datastreams your device will use. A datastream is a channel through which timestamped information passes between a device and Blynk.Cloud.
Developer Mode is for configuring a template’s mobile dashboard. Outside that editing workflow, end-user mode is for using devices and managing automations and notifications. Templates also have separate web and mobile dashboards: laying out one does not automatically reproduce that layout in the other (Blynk template setup; Blynk Device Template; Blynk overview).
Build the mobile dashboard
Open the template in Blynk.App and configure its mobile dashboard. Add a device tile and arrange widgets that use the template’s datastreams. The official quick setup demonstrates a Switch, Labeled Value, and SuperChart; use the widget that fits the data or action you want to expose.

Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Switch: Bind it to a datastream used for a device control, such as an on/off action.
- Labeled Value: Bind it to a datastream that reports a current reading.
- SuperChart: Bind it to time-based data you want to visualize over time.
Check each widget’s datastream binding. A widget can be present on the screen but still fail to control or display the intended device value if it is connected to the wrong datastream. Mobile and web dashboard layouts are configured separately (Blynk mobile dashboard setup).
Choose how to connect and activate the device
Blynk documents three activation approaches. The right choice depends on the connection type, whether the precise board and firmware support provisioning, and whether you are prototyping or deploying devices repeatedly.

| Method | How it works | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Manual AuthToken | Create a device and place its generated AuthToken in the firmware. | A straightforward starting point for prototyping with supported hardware and connection types. |
| Dynamic Wi-Fi provisioning | For supported hardware and firmware, the device temporarily advertises an access point; the app provides Wi-Fi details, which the device stores before reconnecting to the selected network. | Wi-Fi projects where the exact board and firmware support Blynk.Inject provisioning. |
| Static token | Use a static AuthToken for the device’s connection setup. | Cellular, Ethernet, or other non-Wi-Fi connection methods. |
Each device has a unique AuthToken used to identify it in Blynk.Cloud. Follow the activation method that matches the firmware example and connection type for your hardware; do not assume that all boards support the same setup (Blynk device activation methods).
For Wi-Fi provisioning, verify board support first
Blynk.Inject provisioning is documented for ESP32, ESP8266, Seeed Wio Terminal, Arduino MKR1010, Arduino Nano 33 IoT, and TI CC3220. These names indicate documented board families, not a guarantee that every board variant or firmware example works without changes. Check the current Blynk instructions for the exact board and firmware before following a code example (Blynk Wi-Fi provisioning).

Connect and test the full project
Creating a template and arranging widgets do not, by themselves, show that the hardware is online. Test the device, cloud connection, and dashboard together:
- Add the device using the provisioning flow or the applicable AuthToken setup.
- Confirm the device connects to Blynk.Cloud.
- Make the device send data through a configured datastream and check that the corresponding mobile widget displays it.
- Operate a dashboard control and confirm that the device responds as intended.
- Check the control change in both mobile and web dashboards; their layouts are separate, but Blynk’s test guidance includes checking synchronization of changes.
If a value does not appear or a control has no effect, check the device connection, firmware configuration, datastream selection, and widget binding. Blynk’s template test guidance focuses on verifying data visualization, control, and mobile/web synchronization (Blynk test your template).
