Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
From the Fog Reimagined is a Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1 modpack built on Forge, with Herobrine-inspired entities, haunted fog, custom events, the Graveyard, caves and the Cave Dweller. Install it through the CurseForge launcher, keep the profile on Minecraft 1.20.1 with the matching Forge loader, and allocate at least 4,096 MB (4 GB) of memory to the client. A dedicated server needs at least 5 GB; the pack’s example is 5 GB for 10 players.
This guide covers the current listed release, FTFR v6.3.1.2, updated October 14, 2026, plus client installation, memory settings, dedicated-server deployment, hosting choices and the common nbt is null and crash problems.

From the Fog Reimagined is a horror-focused Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge modpack for exploration, multiplayer, magic and hardcore-style play. Its design centers on an oppressive, fog-covered world where Herobrine-inspired entities and scripted events can interrupt ordinary survival. The pack also features the Graveyard, cave exploration and the Cave Dweller.
The pack is related to the separate From The Fog horror mod for Minecraft Java Edition. That underlying project has client and server installations for several mod loaders, but this pack’s current installation target is specific: Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. Treat the pack release and its loader as authoritative rather than substituting a newer Minecraft version or another loader.

The download count is a listing snapshot, not a measurement of performance, stability or an appropriate player capacity. No independent benchmark establishes a guaranteed frame rate or maximum number of players.
Content and comfort warning
The official description warns that the pack contains loud and disturbing sounds, flashing jumpscares and disturbing PNG jumpscares. Lower your volume before the first launch, consider whether flashing imagery is suitable for everyone playing, and warn guests before opening a shared server.

- Use the Java Edition of Minecraft. This pack is not a Bedrock add-on.
- Install the CurseForge launcher, which creates and manages the modpack profile.
- Plan for at least 4,096 MB (4 GB) of memory allocated to the client.
- Use the Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge combination listed for the release.
- Keep enough unallocated memory for your operating system and other applications; assigning every gigabyte to Minecraft can make the computer less responsive.
- Do not add OptiFine while following the current pack instructions. The project page specifically says not to use it with the current setup.
If the launcher or Java runtime is old, update it before diagnosing a crash. Updating Java is one of the pack’s stated troubleshooting recommendations, but the available instructions do not specify a single Java version number.
Install From the Fog Reimagined with CurseForge
- Install and open the CurseForge launcher. Sign in if the launcher requests an account, then open the Minecraft area.
- Open the modpack search. Search the modpack section for FROM THE FOG. Check that the result is the Reimagined pack and that the release targets Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge.
- Install the profile. Let the launcher download the pack’s mods, configuration and dependencies. Do not replace individual files during this first installation.
- Set memory before launching. Open the launcher’s Minecraft settings, find the allocated-memory control and set it to at least 4,096 MB. Apply the setting to the installed profile if the launcher offers per-profile memory controls.
- Launch the profile. Start the profile from CurseForge rather than launching an unrelated vanilla or Forge installation. The first start can take longer while files are indexed and the world is prepared.
- Open the profile folder only when needed. The pack’s instructions may require a specific configuration or resource file. Use the profile folder belonging to this installation; editing a different Minecraft directory will not fix the active profile.
- Confirm a clean first start. Reach the title screen or a test world before adding shaders, performance mods or personal changes. This gives you a known-good baseline for later troubleshooting.
Keep the client on the exact pack release used by the server. A player who installs a similarly named pack, a different release or a different Forge build can encounter connection failures or data errors even when Minecraft itself starts normally.
How much RAM the pack needs
The official minimum for the client is 4,096 MB (4 GB). A dedicated server should receive at least 5 GB, and the example supplied for a 10-player server is also 5 GB. These are allocation figures, not guarantees that every computer or world will perform identically.
| Use | Starting allocation | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Client | 4,096 MB (4 GB) | Official minimum for launching and playing the pack |
| Dedicated server | 5 GB | Official minimum; increase as player count grows |
| 10-player server example | 5 GB | Example given in the pack’s server notes, not a universal capacity guarantee |
Adjusting client memory
In CurseForge, open the Minecraft settings for the launcher or the individual profile, locate the memory allocation field and enter at least 4,096 MB. Save the setting, then restart the profile. If the launcher reports that it cannot reserve the requested amount, close other applications and verify that the computer has enough physical memory available.

- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
Adjusting server memory
Set the host’s memory slider or the server launch configuration to at least 5 GB. For a self-hosted installation, use the memory control in the pack’s supplied server launcher or script rather than editing an unrelated vanilla profile. Add memory when the number of simultaneous players or the explored world grows, but do not promise a fixed player capacity: the supplied material gives only the 10-player, 5-GB example.
Set up a From the Fog Reimagined server
Choose a deployment method
You have two practical routes:
- Managed hosting: a control panel can automate installation, backups and restarts. The official pack description recommends BisectHosting for an easier setup and fewer bugs. Treat that as the pack author’s recommendation, not an independent uptime or performance test.
- Self-hosting: you control the machine and files, but you must install the correct server pack, allocate memory, expose the server safely and perform your own backups and updates.
PlaynHost advertises one-click hosting for this exact modpack. Check that the offer still supports FTFR v6.3.1.2, Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge before paying or moving an existing world.
Use the matching server pack
- Obtain the server files listed for the same pack release. Do not mix a server pack from one release with clients on another release.
- Install the files in a new server directory. Keeping a clean directory makes it easier to identify configuration changes and restore a backup.
- Set at least 5 GB of memory. In a hosting panel, use the memory setting. On a self-hosted machine, use the launch script supplied with the server pack or the host’s documented Java launch configuration.
- Complete the first startup. Accept any required Minecraft server terms in the server directory, then start again using the supplied launcher or panel action. Let the server finish generating its configuration before copying a world or changing settings.
- Stop the server cleanly before editing files. Use the panel’s stop action or the server console’s normal shutdown command. Avoid killing the process while it is saving a world.
- Make a backup before updates or mod changes. Include the world and the server configuration. Restore the backup if a release change prevents startup.
Make clients match the server
Every player should install the same From the Fog Reimagined release, Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge combination as the server. A player’s profile should come from the same listed pack release rather than a manually assembled collection of similarly named mods. If only one player cannot connect, compare that player’s profile version and loader first.

- Now Minecraft lovers can play a special version of UNO!
- Same as Basic UNO but features Minecraft characters and includes special Creeper rule card. Draw this card and the other players have to draw three more cards from the pile!
- The goal is to get rid of all the cards in your hand.
- First player or team to 500 wins.
- When you're down to one card, don't forget to yell "UNO"!
Test privately before inviting players
- Start the server with no extra shaders or optional mods.
- Connect with one client using the matching profile.
- Walk through a few areas and verify that the world saves and the expected pack content loads.
- Stop and restart the server once, then reconnect. This catches startup-only problems before a larger group joins.
- Invite additional players gradually and monitor memory use and the server console rather than assuming the 10-player example is a hard limit.
Hosting choices and what to check
A one-click installation is convenient, but the important question is whether the host supports the exact release you intend to run. Compare providers on deployment, technical compatibility and operational controls rather than on a headline price alone.
| Option | Documented relevance | Verify before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| BisectHosting | The official pack description recommends it for easier setup and fewer bugs. | Current FTFR v6.3.1.2 availability, included memory, region, backups, file access, update controls, price and cancellation terms. |
| PlaynHost | Advertises one-click hosting for this exact modpack. | Whether the current one-click template uses Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge, plus memory scaling, backups, region, price and support terms. |
| Self-hosted machine | Offers direct control of server files and configuration. | At least 5 GB available for the server, reliable connectivity, safe access controls, backups and the ability to maintain the matching Forge installation. |
Geography matters: choose a server region close to most players to reduce network delay. Ask whether backups are automatic or manual, how long they are retained, whether you can download the world, and how a modpack update is rolled back. These details matter more than a one-click button once the world has active players.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshoot crashes and the nbt is null error
Start with the documented quick fix
If the game or server displays nbt is null, relaunch the game or restart the server. The pack’s author specifically lists a relaunch or server restart as a possible fix. Shut down the server normally first so that the world has a chance to save.
Best Value
If the error returns
- Confirm that the client and server use the same From the Fog Reimagined release.
- Confirm both sides use Minecraft 1.20.1 and the matching Forge loader.
- Remove any manually added shader, optimization or gameplay mod and test the unmodified pack.
- Update Java, then relaunch the profile.
- Check the client log and server log for the first error that appears before the
nbt is nullline. The first causal exception is generally more useful than the final shutdown message. - If the problem began after a world or configuration change, stop the server and restore the most recent known-good backup rather than repeatedly starting the damaged state.
Random crashes during play
The author warns that some mods can cause occasional crashes. First establish whether the crash occurs in a clean profile with no added content. If it does, record the exact trigger, pack release, Forge version and log excerpt for the pack’s support channel. If it occurs only after adding a shader or mod, remove that addition and retest before changing core files.
Performance problems
- Verify that the client has at least 4,096 MB allocated and that the server has at least 5 GB.
- Disable resource-heavy shaders or mods, as the pack’s troubleshooting notes recommend.
- Close competing applications and confirm that the launcher is using the intended profile.
- Update Java and restart the launcher.
- On a server, check whether the problem appears only when several players explore new terrain; if so, increase memory within the machine’s limits and reduce simultaneous load rather than claiming a guaranteed player limit.
Do not expect a general PC-cleanup utility to repair Forge incompatibilities, mismatched mod files or invalid world data. Those problems require matching versions, logs, backups and pack-specific support.
The launcher cannot find or start the profile
Reopen the CurseForge profile and verify that it is the installed From the Fog Reimagined instance, not a vanilla profile or a different release. Recheck the memory setting, then launch without OptiFine or additional mods. If the profile directory was moved, point the launcher back to the directory it manages instead of copying files into a second Minecraft installation.
Updating without breaking a world
- Note the current pack, Minecraft and Forge versions.
- Back up the server world and configuration while the server is stopped.
- Read the release notes for the target pack version and obtain its matching server files if you run a dedicated server.
- Update a test copy first. Keep the production world on its existing release until the test starts and a matching client can connect.
- Update every player’s client to the same release before updating the server.
- If the new release fails, stop the server and restore the backup and the previous pack files.
Do not update only the client or only the server. Version drift is a common source of connection errors and data problems in modded Minecraft.
