Yes—but treat free AI tools as research assistants, not prediction engines. For a beginner, the most useful combination is a general assistant for explaining filings and finance terms, a finance-focused service for structured analysis or scores, and an independent data platform for checking prices, financial statements and news. No comparable, independently verified evidence shows that any free service consistently picks winning stocks. Plans, limits, regional access and data coverage can change, so verify the provider’s current page before relying on a feature or allowance.
Is there a free AI tool for stock analysis?
There are several free or freemium options, but they do different jobs. Claude, Gemini and Perplexity are general-purpose assistants: they can explain a filing, organize a thesis or find web sources, yet the cited pricing pages do not document a dedicated market-data feed. Finance-specific services add filings, market data, alternative data or scoring, while data platforms concentrate on quotes, charts, screeners and news.
The distinction matters because an articulate answer is not the same as a validated investment signal. Use AI to reduce the time spent reading and comparing information; use original filings, exchange data and company disclosures to confirm facts before making a decision.

Which free tools fit each part of a beginner’s workflow?
The table separates explanation, finance-specific analysis and raw data. “Not stated” means the cited material did not establish a comparable figure; it is not evidence that a feature does not exist.
| Tool or service | Category and primary use | Inputs or source description | Free access noted in the cited material | Typical output |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Claude | General AI assistant; explain filings, accounting and investing concepts | No dedicated market-data feed documented on the referenced pricing pages | Free availability and limits vary by product and can change; exact allowance not stated | Explanations, summaries and questions to investigate; not a documented stock signal |
| Gemini | General AI assistant; long first-pass research | No dedicated market-data feed documented on the referenced pricing pages | Free availability and limits vary; exact allowance not stated | Long-form synthesis and explanations; verify every current figure |
| Perplexity | General AI assistant; quick web answers | Web answers with links; a dedicated market-data feed is not documented on the cited pricing pages | Free availability and limits vary; exact allowance not stated | Short answers and linked sources |
| Moneda Standard | AI stock-research service | Moneda says it uses company filings and market data and shows sources behind figures | Free Standard plan; exact allowance and current terms not stated in the cited comparison | Company analysis plus bull and bear cases |
| Public Alpha | Brokerage-integrated research assistant | Public’s help page lists SEC filings, earnings calls and transcripts, quotes and historicals, analyst ratings and reports, news and reports, and social sentiment | Available at no charge to Public investors, according to the May 20, 2024 help article | AI research answers inside an investing app; the article says it uses GPT-4 and is not powered by ChatGPT |
| AltIndex | AI stock-scoring service | Finder describes alternative data such as job postings, web traffic, app downloads, social mentions and insider activity | Finder describes a free tier with scores and basic insights; current coverage and limits need verification | AI-generated stock scores and basic insights |
| Koyfin | Financial-data and charting platform | Quotes, charts and research tools; built-in AI is not documented on the cited pages | Free plan with limits; exact limits not stated | Data visualization and comparison, not a documented AI pick |
| Yahoo Finance | Quotes, news and market-data platform | Quotes, charts and news; built-in AI is not documented on the cited pages | Free plan; exact limits not stated | Market information for your own analysis |
| Stock Rover | Financial screener and data platform | Screening and portfolio-research functions; built-in AI is not documented on the cited pages | Free plan with paid upgrades; exact limits not stated | Filters, metrics and comparisons rather than an AI recommendation |
General assistants: Claude, Gemini and Perplexity
General assistants are strongest when you already have a document or a precise question. You can ask one to translate an income statement into plain language, identify unusual changes between two quarters, or create a checklist of follow-up questions. The October 2026 comparison characterizes Claude as useful for filings and finance ideas, Gemini for a longer first pass, and Perplexity for quick web answers with links. Those are descriptions from a comparison article, not an independent performance test.
Because a dedicated, current market-data feed is not documented on the referenced pricing pages, do not assume that a quoted share price, valuation multiple or analyst estimate is live. Paste the exact figure and its date into your notes, then check it against a company filing, an exchange quote or another primary source.

AI research and scoring services
These products package financial or alternative data into a more specialized interface. Their outputs can be convenient, but the underlying methodology, coverage and update schedule matter more than a polished score.
Moneda: The comparison says its free Standard plan works from filings and market data, exposes sources behind figures and presents both bull and bear cases. Because the comparison was written by Moneda’s founder, treat those descriptions as vendor claims and confirm the current feature set, source links and free allowance on the service itself.
Public Alpha: Public’s official help article, dated May 20, 2024, says Alpha is free for Public investors. It lists SEC filings, earnings calls and transcripts, quotes and historicals, analyst ratings and reports, news and reports, and social sentiment as inputs. The article says Alpha is not powered by ChatGPT but uses GPT-4. Access is tied to being an investor in that app, so it is not a universal, account-free alternative.
AltIndex: Finder describes a free tier that supplies AI-driven stock scores and basic insights from alternative signals including job postings, web traffic, app downloads, social mentions and insider activity. Finder is a secondary source; verify the present list of covered markets, refresh frequency, score definition and plan limits directly before using a score.

Data and screening platforms
Koyfin, Yahoo Finance and Stock Rover are useful companions when you need to inspect numbers rather than ask a chatbot for a verdict. The cited comparison describes Koyfin as a limited free plan, Yahoo Finance as a free plan, and Stock Rover as a free plan with paid upgrades. It does not document built-in AI on those cited pages, so label them as data, charting or screening tools—not ChatGPT-powered pickers.
A screener can narrow a universe using revenue growth, debt, profitability or valuation filters. It cannot by itself tell you whether a company’s accounting is durable, whether a temporary event explains a ratio, or whether the market has already priced in the apparent advantage.
How do the free tiers differ, and what should I verify?
Free access is not a single standard. Some services are free for anyone, some limit queries or historical data, and Public Alpha’s cited policy links access to an investing account. The available material does not provide a like-for-like monthly query count, data-history depth or regional availability for every tool.
| Check before relying on a service | Why it changes the decision |
|---|---|
| Account requirement | A tool integrated into a brokerage may require an eligible investor account, while a general assistant may not. |
| Data freshness and date stamps | A historical quote or an old transcript can make a current conclusion misleading. |
| Coverage | Some products may focus on US-listed companies or a subset of markets; the cited material does not establish universal coverage. |
| Usage limits | Message caps, delayed quotes, limited screeners or a small history can interrupt a repeatable workflow. |
| Source visibility | Figure-level links let you open the filing or report and test the claim yourself. |
| Output type | An explanation, a score and a trade signal are different products with different risks. |
| Price and terms | Free plans, paid upgrades and promotional allowances can change; confirm the current provider page. |
Which free alternative should a beginner choose?
Choose by the task you need to complete, not by the most confident-sounding answer.
Choose a general assistant when you need understanding
- You have a 10-K, 10-Q, earnings transcript or investor presentation and need a plain-language explanation.
- You want a glossary of terms such as free cash flow, dilution, deferred revenue or net debt.
- You need competing hypotheses and questions to take into your own research.
Use the assistant’s response as a study aid. Keep the document’s filing date and page or section reference beside every material claim.
Choose an AI research service when you need structured evidence
- You want bull and bear cases organized in one view.
- You prefer a service that links figures to its stated sources.
- You understand that a score is a screening signal, not a forecast of return.
Read the methodology and inspect several underlying sources before deciding whether the format adds value.
Choose a data platform when you need to test a hypothesis
- You are comparing margins, growth, leverage or valuation across a watchlist.
- You need charts, historical prices, news or a repeatable screener.
- You want to verify an AI-generated number independently.
Data tools often require more interpretation, but that friction can expose assumptions that a single score hides.

How can I research a stock safely with free tools?
Use a repeatable sequence that keeps generation separate from verification.
- Define the question. Write one testable question, such as “Has operating margin improved for the last four reported quarters?” Avoid starting with “Which stock will rise?” because that invites unsupported prediction.
- Collect primary documents. Download the latest annual and quarterly filings, earnings release and transcript available for the company. Record each document’s publication date.
- Ask an assistant to explain, not to decide. Request a table of reported figures, definitions and changes, with a citation to the document section for every row. Tell it to mark missing information instead of filling gaps.
- Verify the numbers. Re-open the filing or original company release and compare the assistant’s transcription, units, period and sign. Check per-share figures for dilution and non-GAAP figures for the company’s reconciliation.
- Use a data platform for context. Inspect the historical price, revenue and profitability series and note whether the data is delayed, adjusted or from a different reporting period.
- Stress-test the thesis. Ask for the strongest bear case, then look for evidence in risk factors, customer concentration, debt maturities, cash flow and competitive disclosures. A service that exposes sources makes this step faster, but you still have to read them.
- Separate research from an order. Write what would invalidate the thesis, the time horizon and the maximum loss you can tolerate. Do not let an AI score substitute for diversification, position sizing or a regulated professional’s advice when you need it.
What source transparency should a free stock tool provide?
Prefer an answer that lets you travel from conclusion to evidence in a few clicks. At minimum, look for:
- The document or dataset name, issuer and publication date.
- A link or precise reference for each important figure, not only a generic bibliography.
- The period and units for revenue, earnings, cash flow and per-share metrics.
- An explanation of whether a number is reported, adjusted, estimated or inferred.
- A timestamp for quotes, news and alternative-data observations.
- A method description for any score, including what a high or low value means and how often it changes.
Moneda’s comparison emphasizes sources behind figures and bull/bear framing. Public’s help page names the classes of inputs used by Alpha. Those are useful transparency signals, but neither description establishes an independently audited record of investment performance.
Can AI stock pickers actually predict winning stocks?
No reliable, topic-wide accuracy statistic was established for these free services, and vendor scores are not proof of future performance. A score can rank companies according to a model’s inputs while still missing a sudden filing correction, fraud, regulatory decision, macroeconomic shock or a data error.
The European Securities and Markets Authority’s 2025 investor publication, hosted by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission, warns that public online AI tools may not be authorized or supervised by financial regulators and that AI-generated trading ideas can be wrong or rely on outdated, incorrect or incomplete information. ESMA states: “Remember that no one and nothing, including AI tools, can accurately predict financial markets.” It also says: “AI-powered tools providing trading ideas can generate incorrect information.” Read the full publication at the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission-hosted copy.

What can go wrong, and how do I fix it?
The assistant invents a figure or citation
Symptom: A precise number has no document, date or page reference. Fix: ask for the exact source, then replace the number with the filing’s figure or label it unverified. If no source can be produced, remove it from the thesis.
Rank #4
The answer mixes reporting periods
Symptom: quarterly revenue is compared with annual revenue, or a current price is paired with an old earnings estimate. Fix: add period and currency columns to your notes and reject any row that lacks both.
A score looks objective but its method is opaque
Symptom: the service gives a numerical rank without explaining inputs, weighting or update timing. Fix: use it only as a watchlist filter and rebuild the decision from primary documents and transparent metrics.
Recommended Free Tools
The free plan stops halfway through the work
Symptom: query caps, delayed quotes or locked history prevent a consistent comparison. Fix: export your notes, document the cutoff date and use a second data source for verification rather than silently mixing incompatible data.
Web search results are mistaken for financial advice
Symptom: a linked article is treated as an authoritative recommendation. Fix: open the original filing, regulator notice or company release behind the article and assess its date, incentives and completeness.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can I combine a free assistant with a screener?
Yes. A practical combination is a general assistant for definitions and document summaries, a screener for consistent quantitative filters, and a quote/news platform for current context. Keep a written audit trail showing which tool supplied each number, when you retrieved it and which original source confirmed it.
For example, screen a watchlist using the same profitability and leverage rules, ask an assistant to explain why a company passes or fails each rule, then open the filing to check the explanation. If the assistant cannot reconcile a discrepancy, preserve the discrepancy as an unresolved risk instead of choosing the more favorable value.
How often should I recheck an AI-assisted thesis?
Recheck it whenever the company reports results, issues a material announcement or changes guidance, and set a calendar review appropriate to your time horizon. AI answers can remain fluent after their underlying information becomes stale, so save the retrieval date and refresh any quote, estimate, sentiment measure or alternative-data signal before acting.

What does “free” mean in these comparisons?
It can mean a genuinely no-cost plan, a limited allowance, a free tier with paid upgrades or access bundled with an eligible investing account. The cited sources do not establish identical limits across services, and plan terms can change by country and date; read the current provider terms before building a workflow around one allowance.
Do I need an investing account to use these alternatives?
Not necessarily. General assistants and many data platforms can be used independently, while Public’s cited Alpha article specifically ties no-charge access to Public investors. Account eligibility, identity checks and regional availability should be confirmed on the provider’s current page.
Should a beginner act on an AI-generated stock score?
No. Use a score to decide what deserves further reading, then verify the company’s filings, valuation assumptions, risks and portfolio fit. A high score is an opinion produced from selected inputs, not a guarantee, regulated recommendation or evidence of a tested edge.

Can I use a free AI assistant to read an SEC filing?
Yes. Upload or quote the relevant filing section and ask for definitions, a period-by-period table and unresolved questions. Keep the filing open and verify every material figure because an assistant can misread units, dates or footnotes.
How can I tell whether a stock score is based on current information?
Look for a timestamp, update schedule and a list of data inputs. If the service does not disclose those details, treat the score as a rough screening aid and confirm current facts in the latest filing and market data.
Are alternative-data signals such as web traffic reliable on their own?
No single alternative signal establishes revenue, profitability or valuation. Use it as a hypothesis generator, then test whether company disclosures and financial statements show the business effect the signal implies.
What should I save when I use a free tool for investment research?
Save the prompt, the tool’s response, retrieval date, cited documents and your final assumptions. This record helps you spot stale information and understand why your thesis changed after a new filing or announcement.
