Change the location inside Facebook Marketplace first. Editing the city on your Facebook profile does not necessarily change the area Marketplace uses for nearby listings. On Facebook.com, open Marketplace, select the location currently displayed on the right, and enter a city, neighborhood, ZIP code, or postcode—or choose a point on the map when that option is available.
The correct fix depends on what is wrong: your local search area, the location attached to one of your listings, your shipping address, or Facebook’s location estimate. Follow the matching steps below.
First, identify which Marketplace location is wrong
Facebook uses “location” for several different things. Before changing settings, determine which one is causing the problem:

These settings should not be treated as interchangeable. Meta documents a separate Marketplace location control and also explains that Facebook may estimate location using GPS, Wi-Fi, IP address, check-ins, events, and other account activity. That means changing the city on your general Facebook profile may not correct Marketplace. This distinction follows from Meta’s separate documented controls; Meta does not publish a single priority order for all location signals.

Fix the location used to browse Marketplace
- Open Marketplace in the Facebook app or at Facebook Marketplace.
- Find the location currently shown in the Marketplace interface. On Facebook.com, Meta’s documented instructions say to select the displayed location on the right.
- Enter the correct town or city, neighborhood, ZIP code, or postcode.
- If Facebook offers a map, select the appropriate point.
- Return to the listings and check whether the results now come from the intended area.
The exact button placement and labels can differ by app version, device, and region. If the location control is not visible, check the Marketplace filters or start the listing-creation flow to see whether a location selector is available. Then compare the result on Facebook.com in a browser.
Changing this setting controls the area used for browsing. It does not necessarily change the location already saved on an existing listing that you have published.
If your own listing has the wrong location
A seller can choose a location for an individual Marketplace listing. When creating a listing, review the city, ZIP code, or postcode before publishing it rather than assuming Facebook will automatically use the city on your profile.
- Open the listing-creation flow in Marketplace.
- Review the location field before publishing.
- Replace the incorrect area with the correct town, city, neighborhood, or postcode.
- Preview the listing and confirm that the public location is accurate.
For an existing listing, open its management or editing options and look for a location field. Facebook does not guarantee that every existing listing can be edited in the same way across devices and regions. If the location cannot be changed, save screenshots of the problem and contact Meta through the reporting route below.
Do not immediately create a second copy of the listing. Duplicate listings can create confusion and may conflict with Marketplace rules. If you decide to recreate it, first confirm that the original can be removed or that recreating it is permitted.
Check Facebook’s device-location permission
Location permission can help Facebook use your device’s current position, but enabling it is not a guaranteed fix. Meta says Facebook may still estimate location from IP address, connection information, and account activity when device Location Services are disabled.

Android
- Open the device’s Settings app.
- Go to Apps and select Facebook.
- Tap Permissions, then Location.
- Choose an available permission such as Allow only while using the app or Ask every time.
- Reopen Facebook and check Marketplace again.
Android labels vary between manufacturers and versions. If Facebook does not appear to have permission, also check the device-wide Location or Location Services switch.

- Open Settings.
- Go to Privacy & Security and select Location Services.
- Choose Facebook.
- Select an available permission level appropriate for your use, and make sure Location Services is enabled if you want Facebook to access device location.
- Reopen Facebook and test Marketplace.

Disconnect a VPN and location-spoofing tools while testing
A VPN can make Facebook see an IP address associated with another city, state, or country. Meta identifies VPN use as a cause of location mismatch in its Facebook Dating documentation; applying that same technical mechanism to Marketplace is a reasonable inference, not a Marketplace-specific diagnosis from Meta.
For a clean test:
- Disconnect the VPN.
- Disable any location-spoofing or mock-location tool.
- Use your normal cellular connection or a trusted local Wi-Fi network.
- Close and reopen Facebook.
- Set the Marketplace location manually again.
Do not use a VPN or spoofing tool as a way to manipulate Marketplace location. It can make the location less reliable and may create account or transaction problems.
Refresh Facebook’s app or browser state
A stale app session, browser cache, unreliable connection, or extension can prevent a changed location from displaying correctly. These steps will not repair every account-side problem, but they are useful for separating a local device problem from a Facebook-side issue.

In the Facebook app
- Update Facebook from the relevant app store.
- Close the app completely and reopen it.
- Restart the phone or tablet.
- Switch between reliable Wi-Fi and mobile data to compare the result.
- Open Marketplace and set the location again.
On Android, clearing the Facebook app cache may be available under Settings > Apps > Facebook > Storage, although the labels differ by device. Treat this as a troubleshooting step—not a guaranteed solution. Clearing cache does not necessarily correct an account-side location bug.

On Facebook.com
- Sign out and sign back in.
- Try a private or incognito browser window.
- Try another supported browser.
- Clear the browser cache if the location control or results appear stuck.
- Temporarily disable third-party browser extensions, especially privacy, location, or content-filtering extensions.
- Restart the computer and test again.
Meta’s general troubleshooting guidance is available in its help for content that is not loading or working correctly.
Use a three-environment test
When the location keeps reverting, compare these environments:
- The Facebook mobile app with device-location permission enabled.
- Facebook.com in a private or clean browser session.
- A second device or a different network.
Interpret the results cautiously:
- Only one app or browser is wrong: stale local data, an extension, or an app-specific problem is more likely.
- Every environment shows the same wrong city: an account-side or server-side problem becomes more plausible.
- The location changes only on one network: IP-based location or network configuration may be influencing the result.
- The location changes back after you manually correct it: check permissions, VPN status, app/browser state, and the selected Marketplace location again.
Facebook does not publicly document a definitive Marketplace-specific ranking of GPS, IP, Wi-Fi, and activity signals, so no single cause can be confirmed solely from the displayed city.

If the problem concerns delivery, shipping, or a return address, changing your local Marketplace search location may do nothing. Marketplace has a separate shipping-address workflow. Use Meta’s instructions for updating the address used for Marketplace shipping.
Keep these questions separate:
- Which city or ZIP code is being used to find nearby listings?
- Which public location is attached to your own listing?
- Which address is used for shipping or returns?
- Which location is being used to verify or restrict Marketplace access?
If Marketplace is unavailable instead of merely inaccurate
A location problem may sometimes be an access or eligibility problem rather than an incorrect search radius. Marketplace availability can depend on factors such as country, age, account status, account type or profile, and policy restrictions. If Marketplace is missing, blocked, or repeatedly asks you to verify eligibility, changing the browsing location may not solve it.
Review Meta’s information about Marketplace access and eligibility. Avoid creating a new account or using location-spoofing tools to bypass a restriction; those actions may create additional account problems.

Report a persistent wrong-location bug to Meta
Report the problem if you have corrected the Marketplace location, checked permissions, disconnected any VPN, and tested the app or browser without improvement.

Include useful diagnostic details:
- The incorrect city, region, or ZIP/postcode shown.
- The correct location you selected.

- Your device model and operating-system version.

Do not rely only on the city shown in a listing. If a buyer or seller suggests meeting somewhere unexpected, pause the transaction and confirm the exact pickup location in Facebook messages before traveling.
For suspicious transactions, Meta recommends communicating through Facebook, verifying items before paying, canceling suspicious deals, and reporting suspicious activity. Never let an incorrect Marketplace location pressure you into meeting in an unfamiliar or unsafe area.

Why is my listing in the wrong location even though my search location is correct?
A seller can choose a location for an individual listing. Review that listing’s location during creation or in its editing options. The browsing location and the public location on an existing listing are separate concerns.
Does turning on GPS guarantee the correct Marketplace location?
No. Location permission may help Facebook use your device’s position, but Meta says Facebook can also estimate location from IP address, connection information, and account activity.
Is a Marketplace shipping address the same as my local Marketplace location?
