eCommerce cloud hosting is best chosen by operating model, not by the word “cloud”: Shopify suits fast-launch managed commerce, BigCommerce suits flexible hosted commerce, Adobe Commerce suits complex enterprise operations, WooCommerce suits WordPress-led businesses, and public cloud suits engineering-led custom systems. There is no universally best platform; infrastructure ownership, catalog complexity, integrations, payments, and five-year cost decide the fit.
Cloud hosting can mean a fully managed SaaS commerce platform, managed hosting for an open-source application, or a self-managed deployment on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Those models can deliver very different levels of control, maintenance, security responsibility, and total cost.
Key takeaways
- Shopify is usually the fastest path to managed DTC or omnichannel commerce, while BigCommerce is a strong hosted alternative when payment choice, catalog flexibility, or B2B features matter.
- Adobe Commerce is designed for complex enterprise commerce, but Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service and Adobe Commerce on Cloud Infrastructure are different offerings with different operational responsibilities.
- WooCommerce itself is free and open source, but hosting, extensions, development, backups, security, and maintenance remain separate costs.
- “Cloud” does not automatically mean managed: a self-managed AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud deployment still requires application operations, databases, security, monitoring, backups, and incident response.
- CDN delivery and uptime do not guarantee fast checkout; carts, inventory, payment gateways, APIs, and background jobs can remain bottlenecks.
- A useful comparison must model subscription, payment processing, transaction or open-provider fees, apps, development, support, migration, security, and disaster recovery—not only the hosting bill.
What is eCommerce cloud hosting?
eCommerce cloud hosting is the infrastructure and operating environment used to run an online store, including its storefront, catalog, cart, checkout, customer accounts, administration, APIs, databases, media, and integrations. The phrase is often used for three distinct models.
Hosted SaaS commerce
With hosted software as a service, the vendor operates both the commerce application and much of the underlying infrastructure. Shopify, Shopify Plus, BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, and Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service are examples of this model.
#1 Best Overall
- Dual band router upgrades to 1200 Mbps high speed internet (300mbps for 2.4GHz plus 900Mbps for 5GHz), reducing buffering and ideal for 4K stream
- Full Gigabit Ports - Gigabit Router with 4 Gigabit LAN ports, ideal for any internet plan and allow you to directly connect your wired devices
- Boosted Coverage - Four external antennas equipped with Beamforming technology extend and concentrate the Wi-Fi signals
- MU-MIMO technology - (5GHz band) allows high speeds for multiple devices simultaneously
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
The merchant normally manages products, content, orders, customers, payments, apps, promotions, and business configuration. The vendor manages much of the platform maintenance, infrastructure scaling, baseline security, and software updates. Shopify describes its commerce platform as fully cloud-based and provider-managed in its cloud commerce explanation.
Managed application hosting
Managed application hosting runs an open-source commerce application on infrastructure operated by a hosting provider or agency. WooCommerce on managed WordPress hosting and Magento Open Source on managed cloud infrastructure fit this category.
Managed hosting can reduce server administration, but “managed” does not necessarily mean that the provider maintains every plugin, theme, customization, database query, payment integration, or application-level security issue. Contract terms should state exactly what the provider patches, monitors, backs up, restores, and supports.
Self-managed public cloud
Self-managed public cloud means that the business deploys its own commerce stack on AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. Public-cloud infrastructure can support highly customized or headless architectures, but the cloud provider supplies infrastructure rather than a complete commerce operation.
The business or its implementation partner generally owns application deployment, database administration, caching, CDN and WAF configuration, autoscaling, backups, disaster recovery, monitoring, patch management, secrets, access controls, PCI scope management, and incident response. Cloud hosting is not automatically managed hosting.
| Model | Who operates the platform? | Control | Operational burden | Typical fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hosted SaaS | Commerce vendor | Lower server and database control | Lowest | Fast-launch DTC, omnichannel, and many enterprise stores |
| Managed open source | Merchant owns the application; provider manages an agreed hosting layer | Higher code and data control | Moderate | WordPress-led stores and businesses needing customization |
| Self-managed public cloud | Merchant, agency, or internal engineering team | Highest architectural control | Highest | Headless, composable, or unusually customized commerce |
Which eCommerce cloud-hosting solution fits each business?
The best eCommerce cloud-hosting solution depends on the store profile. The shortlist below avoids treating a SaaS platform, managed WordPress host, and infrastructure provider as interchangeable products.
| Solution | Best fit | Main advantage | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify or Shopify Plus | Fast-launch DTC, omnichannel brands, and enterprises wanting managed infrastructure | Hosting, SSL, CDN-backed delivery, updates, and much of the operational burden are included | Less checkout and infrastructure freedom; apps and payment-related costs can accumulate |
| BigCommerce | Mid-market and enterprise brands wanting hosted commerce with catalog, payment, API, and B2B flexibility | SaaS hosting, broad integrations, native commerce features, and an open-payment-provider model | GMV thresholds, plan changes, and open-payment-provider fees require careful modeling |
| Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service | Complex catalogs, multi-brand or multi-site operations, advanced merchandising, and Adobe ecosystem customers | Extensive commerce functionality, extensibility, cloud scaling, and Adobe services | Implementation and governance are more complex; pricing is generally sales-led |
| Adobe Commerce on Cloud Infrastructure | Businesses needing Adobe Commerce control on AWS- or Azure-based infrastructure | More architectural and operational control than a fully managed SaaS product | More responsibility for deployments, customizations, security configuration, and engineering |
| WooCommerce with managed WordPress hosting | WordPress-first, content-led, or agency-supported businesses | Open-source code, a broad plugin ecosystem, and freedom to choose providers | The merchant or agency remains responsible for compatibility, performance, security, and scaling |
| Public cloud on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud | Engineering-led teams building custom or headless commerce systems | Maximum architectural flexibility and control | The cloud provider does not operate the complete commerce application |
Shopify and Shopify Plus
Shopify is usually the easiest recommendation for a small team that wants to launch quickly, operate a polished administration console, sell across channels, and avoid server maintenance. Shopify’s official pricing page lists secure hosting, free SSL, unlimited bandwidth, and PCI-related platform claims, but country, billing-cycle, payment-provider, and contract terms affect the actual commercial result.
The current pricing signals in the research include Basic at $39 per month when billed monthly or $29 per month when billed annually, Grow at $105 monthly or $79 annually, Advanced at $399 monthly or $299 annually, and Shopify Plus from $2,300 per month. These are vendor-displayed plan signals, not a universal landed cost; verify the current Shopify pricing and country-specific terms before purchase.

Shopify documents those capabilities in its Shopify Plus feature reference.
Shopify is a weaker fit when a business needs unrestricted database access, unusual server-side checkout logic, complete control over the payment stack, or a fully independent commerce architecture. Shopify also notes that payment availability and some features vary by country, so international expansion requires country-by-country verification.
BigCommerce
BigCommerce deserves close consideration when a merchant wants managed SaaS operations but also values broad payment-provider choice, native catalog and B2B capabilities, headless options, and API-driven integrations. BigCommerce’s current pricing page lists Core at $39 per month monthly or $29 annually, Growth at $105 monthly or $79 annually, Scale at $399 monthly or $299 annually, and Performance with custom pricing starting at $1,499 per month billed annually.

BigCommerce’s commercial model needs special attention. The company announced plan and pricing changes effective June 1, 2026, including new plan names, GMV thresholds, and open-payment-provider fees. The pricing material also describes a 0.9% overage rate on Scale above its stated monthly GMV threshold. Do not compare BigCommerce’s eligible-GMV thresholds directly with gross sales without reviewing the company’s GMV calculation and pricing FAQ.

BigCommerce can be less attractive when a merchant’s payment arrangement, revenue growth, or international mix makes GMV-based upgrades and open-provider fees expensive. BigCommerce’s published numbers and payment rules can change, so use the official BigCommerce pricing page for a purchase decision.
Adobe Commerce
Adobe Commerce is a better fit for enterprise commerce requiring complex product relationships, multiple brands or websites, sophisticated price books and promotions, advanced merchandising, deep ERP or CRM integration, or Adobe Experience Cloud connectivity.
Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service and Adobe Commerce on Cloud Infrastructure are not the same product. Adobe’s SaaS and PaaS feature comparison should be consulted before assuming identical controls, regions, deployment processes, or operational responsibilities.
Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service describes horizontal autoscaling and a 99.9% availability target. Those are vendor statements about the relevant service, not independent performance tests or a guarantee that every integration, database query, search request, payment gateway, or third-party service will scale equally. Adobe Commerce on Cloud Infrastructure documents a cloud stack involving AWS or Azure foundations, CDN, WAF, and image-optimization components in its technical architecture documentation.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Adobe Commerce is usually a poor fit for a simple store, a rapid low-complexity launch, or a business without experienced developers and an implementation partner. Public Adobe pricing is generally sales-led or quote-based. A credible budget must separate licensing, implementation, extensions, hosting model, agency work, and ongoing engineering rather than repeat unofficial license estimates.
WooCommerce with managed WordPress hosting
WooCommerce is a strong option for WordPress-first businesses that need content flexibility, open-source code, a large plugin ecosystem, and freedom to choose hosting and payment providers. WooCommerce states that the platform is free and open source, while hosting, extensions, payment processing, development, backups, and security are separate costs in its pricing explanation.
“Free WooCommerce” therefore does not mean free eCommerce. A realistic budget may include managed hosting, premium extensions, a theme or custom design, development, staging, monitoring, backups, malware response, payment fees, and periodic compatibility work.
Kinsta is one example of managed WordPress hosting that lists CDN, WAF with DDoS protection, SSL, backups, staging, application performance monitoring, malware removal, and database optimization. The research pass observed higher-volume agency plans at approximately $340, $450, and $675 per month, with enterprise plans starting around $500 per month; listed prices exclude tax and vary by plan. Those are hosting prices, not the total cost of operating WooCommerce. Review Kinsta’s current plans and SLA terms for exact limits.
WooCommerce is a poor fit for teams without WordPress maintenance expertise or for stores that need fully managed, predictable scaling with minimal operational involvement. Plugin conflicts, inefficient queries, PHP or WordPress updates, payment-plugin changes, and theme customizations can cause failures even when the underlying server has ample capacity.
What features should eCommerce cloud hosting include?
How should cloud hosting scale during promotions and peak seasons?
Good eCommerce scaling covers more than web-page traffic. Ask whether scaling is automatic, manual, or plan-limited, and whether it includes checkout, APIs, search, imports, background jobs, image processing, and database capacity.
Rank #3
- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
Ask for specific limits on monthly visits, concurrent requests, CPU time, PHP workers, database size, API calls, background jobs, staff accounts, storefronts, and image processing. Ask whether flash-sale traffic requires advance approval, whether capacity is shared or dedicated, and whether the vendor provides load-testing guidance.
“Unlimited bandwidth” does not mean unlimited application capacity. Shopify advertises unlimited bandwidth, CDN-backed delivery, automatic updates, and DDoS protection for Shopify Plus; those are vendor claims and do not independently establish unlimited CPU, API capacity, checkout throughput, or database performance. Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service describes horizontal autoscaling, but autoscaling one service does not make every dependency elastic.

A strong platform should provide or integrate with a global CDN, static-asset caching, image transformation, cache purging, origin shielding, edge redirects, and security controls. Cache rules must prevent personalized or cart data from being exposed to another shopper.
Catalog pages are generally easier to cache than carts, customer accounts, inventory-sensitive data, and checkout. A CDN can continue serving cached product pages while the origin, cart service, inventory system, payment gateway, or API is overloaded. Test the entire purchase path rather than treating a CDN feature as proof of checkout performance.
Adobe’s documented cloud architecture includes CDN, WAF, and image-optimization components. The Adobe Commerce cloud technology stack describes those components, but the exact configuration and responsibility depend on the Adobe offering and deployment.
What security and PCI controls matter?
Evaluate TLS certificates, WAF protection, DDoS mitigation, bot management, malware protection, secure administrative access, vulnerability and patch management, secrets handling, role-based access, MFA, audit logs, and incident communication.

Separate four claims that vendors often place close together: the provider’s infrastructure certification, the platform’s PCI status, the payment processor’s responsibilities, and the merchant’s own configuration and obligations. Shopify states that Shopify is Level 1 PCI DSS compliant and includes hosting and SSL with its plans. Adobe documents a shared-responsibility model covering physical infrastructure, cloud services, PCI, SOC, and ISO-related controls in its security and compliance documentation.
A platform’s PCI certification does not automatically make every merchant configuration compliant. Ask whether checkout is hosted by the platform, whether custom scripts can run on checkout pages, who manages certificates, whether WAF and DDoS controls apply to the selected plan, which security logs are available, how staff MFA works, and whether audit records can be exported.
What backup and disaster-recovery questions should a merchant ask?
Require specific recovery details instead of accepting “daily backups” as a complete answer. Ask for backup frequency, retention, separate storage, point-in-time recovery, recovery time objective, recovery point objective, restoration cost, restoration steps, download options, and evidence that restore procedures are tested.
A usable store recovery must consistently restore orders, customers, inventory, configuration, media, custom code, and required secrets. A backup that exists but cannot reconstruct a coherent storefront and order system is not an adequate disaster-recovery plan. Test restoration before a major launch, migration, or promotional event.
Which APIs and developer tools should be compared?
Compare REST and GraphQL APIs, webhooks, bulk data operations, rate limits, checkout extensibility, custom functions, command-line tools, staging and preview environments, version compatibility, marketplace quality, and data portability.

“Has an API” is not enough. Ask how many requests are allowed, how rate limits behave during a sale, how webhook retries work, whether API versions are deprecated on a fixed schedule, whether bulk exports are practical, and whether the platform can export products, customers, orders, subscriptions, consent records, redirects, and media.
Shopify Plus offers Shopify Functions and early-access feature-testing environments. Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service promotes App Builder and standards-based extensibility. Those are platform capabilities, not proof that every customization will be simple or inexpensive. Shopify’s Plus feature documentation and Adobe’s Cloud Service overview provide the relevant vendor descriptions.
Which commerce capabilities affect platform choice?
Evaluate product and variant limits, faceted search, promotions, tax and shipping rules, inventory, returns, subscriptions, gift cards, and customer accounts. B2B buyers should additionally check company accounts, quotes, catalogs, price lists, approval workflows, purchase orders, payment terms, and customer-specific pricing.
Recommended Free Tools
International merchants should verify supported countries, local payment methods, currencies, tax calculation, duties, languages, regional catalogs, data residency, local fulfillment, and country-specific checkout rules. Global platform availability is not the same as global payment availability or legal eligibility.
Integration requirements should include ERP, CRM, PIM, WMS, fulfillment, tax, search, marketing, analytics, and fraud systems. Review webhook retry behavior, failure queues, reconciliation, monitoring, API quotas, and ownership of integration code.
What is the difference between SaaS, WooCommerce, and public cloud?
SaaS minimizes infrastructure ownership, managed open source balances application control with outsourced hosting, and public cloud maximizes architectural control at the cost of a larger operating workload.
| Criterion | Hosted SaaS | Managed open source | Self-managed public cloud |
|---|---|---|---|
| Infrastructure control | Low to moderate | Moderate to high | High |
| Application and database control | Platform-dependent | Usually high | High |
| Maintenance burden | Lowest | Merchant and provider share it | Highest |
| Customization | APIs, apps, functions, and permitted extensions | Broad code and database freedom | Maximum architectural freedom |
| Cost predictability | Core cost is easier to forecast; usage and apps can add costs | Many separate cost lines | Infrastructure and engineering usage can vary significantly |
| Scaling | Vendor-managed but plan and platform dependent | Provider and application dependent | Team designs and operates scaling |
| Vendor lock-in | Usually highest | Lower, but plugins and customizations create dependencies | Architecture and cloud services can still create lock-in |
| Best for | Teams prioritizing speed and low operations | WordPress or open-source specialists | Engineering-led custom or headless commerce |
How much does eCommerce cloud hosting cost?
eCommerce cloud hosting costs include more than a monthly platform or server charge. A five-year comparison should include subscription or license, hosting, payment processing, platform transaction or open-provider fees, apps and extensions, themes, development, agency retainers, monitoring, backups, security, disaster recovery, migration, internal engineering, and operations.

| Payments | Processor fees plus possible platform or provider fees | Processor fees; provider choice is generally broader | Processor fees plus integration and compliance work |
| Extensions | Apps, themes, and platform add-ons | Plugins, extensions, themes, and licenses | Custom services, software, and third-party components |
| Operations | Lower infrastructure staffing need | Maintenance and agency or developer support | DevOps, security, monitoring, on-call, and incident response |
| Migration and exit | Potentially substantial if workflows or data are proprietary | More portable in principle, but custom code can complicate migration | Architecture and cloud-service dependencies affect exit cost |
Shopify’s displayed plan signals range from $39 per month for Basic on monthly billing to $2,300 per month starting for Shopify Plus, while BigCommerce’s displayed signals range from $39 per month for Core on monthly billing to custom Performance pricing starting at $1,499 per month billed annually. These figures are dated commercial signals from the supplied research, not guaranteed quotes. Billing cycle, geography, payment provider, contract, GMV, apps, and implementation can materially change the total.
WooCommerce’s software price is not a useful standalone comparison because the official model separates the open-source platform from hosting, extensions, payment processing, development, backups, and security. Kinsta’s observed high-volume hosting prices of approximately $340 to $675 per month and enterprise starting prices around $500 per month likewise represent hosting, not complete WooCommerce ownership.
Adobe Commerce pricing is generally quote-based. Any Adobe comparison should separately model licensing, implementation, extensions, the selected cloud model, agency work, infrastructure, and ongoing engineering. Do not present third-party license ranges as official Adobe prices.

- Define the operating model. Decide whether the team wants a vendor to operate most infrastructure, a host to manage an agreed layer, or internal engineers to own the stack.
- Record current and peak demand. Document traffic, orders, concurrent shoppers, launch spikes, API volume, imports, search load, and background jobs. Do not use monthly visits alone.
- Map the catalog and rules. List variants, bundles, subscriptions, promotions, price lists, regional catalogs, inventory locations, returns, and B2B workflows.
- Map the integration surface. Identify ERP, CRM, PIM, WMS, tax, payments, fraud, fulfillment, search, analytics, and marketing dependencies. Confirm API limits and webhook behavior.
- Test payment and international requirements. Confirm processors, local payment methods, currencies, tax, duties, languages, data residency, and country availability.
- Set recovery objectives. Specify acceptable recovery time and data loss, then verify backup retention, point-in-time recovery, restore testing, and incident escalation.
- Check extensibility and exit. Review checkout customization, functions, APIs, export formats, redirect handling, subscriptions, customer consent, and the ability to preserve SEO URLs.
- Calculate five-year total cost. Include platform, payments, apps, development, agency work, monitoring, security, backups, migration, support, internal staffing, and likely growth-related plan changes.
- Run a realistic test. Test catalog pages, search, login, cart, checkout, payment authorization, inventory reservation, order export, fulfillment, refunds, webhooks, and a failure or rollback scenario.
What are the most common eCommerce cloud-hosting mistakes?
Confusing a cloud label with capacity
A cloud plan can still have hard limits on CPU, database size, PHP workers, API calls, concurrent requests, background jobs, or monthly eligible sales. Request the actual limits and the consequences of exceeding them.

Testing only cached storefront pages
Cached product pages can remain fast while checkout, payment authorization, inventory, or an ERP integration fails. Load-test the origin and the complete buying journey.
Assuming an uptime SLA means a fast store
Uptime measures availability under a defined SLA method; it does not necessarily measure page speed, checkout success, API latency, search quality, or order processing. Read exclusions, measurement windows, maintenance rules, and remedies.
Accepting “daily backups” without a restore test
Ask what is backed up, where it is stored, how long it is retained, how much restoration costs, and whether a complete restore has been tested. Confirm that orders, customers, inventory, media, configuration, code, and secrets can be recovered together.
Underestimating plugin and extension risk
WooCommerce and other open-source systems can break after WordPress, PHP, WooCommerce, payment-plugin, theme, or database changes. Use staging, compatibility testing, backups, rollback procedures, and a defined update owner.
Misunderstanding PCI responsibility
A PCI-compliant host or platform does not remove merchant responsibility for configuration, custom scripts, third-party checkout components, external systems, access controls, and payment-data handling.
Ignoring vendor lock-in
Before selecting SaaS, verify exports for products, customers, orders, subscriptions, consent records, redirects, media, and theme or checkout logic. A platform can be operationally convenient while still making replatforming expensive.
Using outdated pricing
Pricing pages change, and BigCommerce’s announced June 1, 2026 changes demonstrate why plan names, GMV thresholds, overage rates, and open-payment-provider fees must be checked at the time of purchase. Shopify’s monthly and annual prices also differ.
Which solution should each type of business choose?
| Business profile | Shortlist | Why | Verify before committing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small or growing DTC brand | Shopify | Fast launch and low infrastructure burden | Payment costs, app stack, product limits, and export needs |
| Omnichannel retailer | Shopify or Shopify Plus | Managed platform and channel-oriented workflows | Country-specific payments, POS requirements, and multi-store needs |
| Mid-market catalog or B2B seller | BigCommerce or Adobe Commerce | Hosted commerce with stronger catalog, API, or B2B considerations | GMV pricing, payment-provider fees, quotes, price lists, and integrations |
| Complex enterprise or multi-brand operation | Adobe Commerce | Deep catalog, merchandising, multi-site, and integration flexibility | Implementation partner, governance, licensing, cloud model, and engineering budget |
| WordPress publisher with commerce | WooCommerce with managed hosting | Content and code flexibility with less raw-server administration | Plugin compatibility, performance ownership, backups, security, and scaling |
| Engineering-led headless or composable business | Public cloud or a highly extensible SaaS platform | Architectural control and custom services | 24/7 operations, observability, disaster recovery, PCI scope, and exit strategy |
The practical recommendation is profile-based: choose Shopify for speed and managed DTC operations, BigCommerce for hosted flexibility where its payment and GMV model works, Adobe Commerce for complex enterprise requirements, WooCommerce with managed hosting for WordPress control, and public cloud for teams equipped to operate a custom architecture. No shortlist eliminates the need to test checkout, integrations, recovery, security responsibilities, and five-year cost.

Is eCommerce cloud hosting the same as managed hosting?
No. Hosted SaaS platforms manage most of the commerce application and infrastructure, while managed hosting may manage only an agreed hosting layer around an open-source application. Self-managed public cloud leaves substantially more operational work with the merchant or its engineering partner.
What is the best eCommerce cloud-hosting platform?
There is no universal best eCommerce cloud-hosting platform. Shopify commonly fits fast-launch DTC and omnichannel stores, BigCommerce fits hosted commerce needing payment or catalog flexibility, Adobe Commerce fits complex enterprise commerce, WooCommerce fits WordPress-led businesses, and public cloud fits engineering-led custom systems.
Is WooCommerce really free?
WooCommerce is free and open source as software, but a WooCommerce store still requires hosting, extensions, payment processing, development, backups, security, and maintenance. The software price is therefore only one part of total eCommerce cost.
Does a CDN make an online store fast?
A CDN can accelerate cacheable catalog pages and static assets, but a CDN does not guarantee fast carts, checkout, payment authorization, inventory operations, APIs, or background jobs. Complete purchase-path testing is necessary.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Does PCI-compliant eCommerce hosting make a merchant fully PCI compliant?
No. A provider’s PCI status covers its defined environment and controls, while the merchant remains responsible for its configuration, access controls, custom scripts, integrations, and payment-data practices. The merchant should confirm the applicable responsibilities with its payment processor and compliance advisor.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Select eCommerce cloud hosting by the amount of infrastructure and application operations your business is prepared to own. Shopify is the strongest default for fast, managed DTC commerce; BigCommerce is worth comparing when hosted flexibility and payment choice matter; Adobe Commerce belongs on complex enterprise shortlists; WooCommerce is appropriate for WordPress specialists; and public cloud is appropriate only when the engineering team can operate the resulting system. Validate limits, checkout performance, recovery, compliance responsibilities, data portability, and five-year total cost before signing.
