Dell Inspiron 7577: At First Glance

Dell Inspiron 7577 was released in the year 2017, a few years after its predecessor -Inspiron 15 7567 – was released. Thankfully, the Dell Inspiron 7577 comes with a lot of changes compared to its predecessor.

Despite its improved specs and features, the Dell Inspiron 7577 only comes at a slightly cheaper price compared to its predecessor. Precisely, as at the time I wrote this review in February 2022, the Dell Inspiron 7577 starts at a price of $1,199.66.

Having talked about the price, let us go into this review fully to discover the features of this laptop.

Dell Inspiron 7577: Design, Dimensions, and Weight

The design of the Dell Inspiron 7577 is one of its most impressive features. Nobody will leave without taking a second glance at this laptop when they come across it.

The laptop’s body is designed with a magnesium alloy which makes it quite durable. The Dell Inspiron 7577 has a smooth and soft touch and is available in two color options.

You can get the laptop either in red or black color. Nevertheless, whichever color you pick, you will have a laptop that is worth being proud of.

For clear brand recognition, the lid of the laptop has a Dell logo inscribed. The logo is circled with a bright red color that can be noticed from afar.

Unlike most laptops that have two hinges, the Dell Inspiron 7577 has just a single bar hinge at the center. The single-bar hinge is even and it holds the display firmly.

Therefore, you won’t notice any wobbling of the screen while using the laptop. Additionally, the hinge allows the lid to be bent backward to a maximum of 140 degrees.

On a slightly negative note, despite the firmness of the hinge, the lid exhibits a creaking sound when opening and closing. Therefore, it is safe to say that the hinge can do better with less friction.

Coming to this laptop’s screen, the Dell Inspiron 7577 comes with a beautiful 15.6-inch display.

The display of this laptop is one of the improvements Dell has made over that of its predecessor. It is possible to get the Dell Inspiron 7577’s display in two resolutions.

Firstly, you can get this laptop with a Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. Secondly, there is also a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution.

Meanwhile, this review focuses on the Full HD resolution model of the Dell Inspiron 7577. The display uses an IPS panel that gives it accurate colors and wide viewing angles.

For the display bezels, they are slightly thinner than that of the predecessor – Inspiron 7567. However, the upper bezel is still sizable enough to feature an HD Webcam in its middle.

Meanwhile, the bottom bezel also has a Dell logo.

Moving on to the keyboard section of this laptop, it has a full backlit keyboard. Moreover, the keys are placed far from one another which makes typing easier.

The keyboard has a nice key travel of 1.2 mm which makes it comfortable to type on. Talking about key travel, it measures how deep the keys on a keyboard go when they are pressed.

A deeper key travel gives better feedback which translates to a more enjoyable typing experience. On the other hand, shallow key travel produces shallow feedback and gives a stick feel when you type.

In regards to that, the Dell Inspiron 7577’s keyboard key travel of 1.2mm is decent enough for both gaming and typing.

Below the laptop’s keyboard, you will find the 4.1 x 3.1 inches dedicated touchpad. The touchpad feels a bit jumpy and it does not have accurate feedback.

However, that inaccuracy is due to the fact that the touchpad is made of plastic. Therefore, it doesn’t feel as nice as metal or glass touchpads.

Moving on to the ports, the right and the left sides of the keyboard base house the ports. Meanwhile, the front of the Dell Inspiron 7577 has no port but the rear was designed for air intake.

Speaking of the ports, the right side has a 3.5 mm combo audio jack, 2 USB 3.1 ports, Thunderbolt 3, and HDMI 2.0 port. Meanwhile, on the left side, there is an AC charging port, Ethernet port, USB 3.1 port, and SDcard reader.

Lastly in this section, let us talk about the weight and dimensions of the Dell Inspiron 7577. It has a weight of 2,650 g and a dimension of 389 x 274.7 x 24.9 mm (W x D x H).

These numbers show that the Dell Inspiron 7577 is not a travel-friendly laptop. However, its weight is less compared to its predecessor – Dell Inspiron 7567 which weighs 2,750 g.

On the other hand, the Dell Inspiron 7577 weighs more than the ASUS GL503VD-DB7 and MSI GS63VR 6RF Stealth Pro. They both weigh 2,226 g and 1,900 g respectively.

In conclusion, the magnesium alloy chassis of this laptop makes it quite durable, it also has enough port selection. Therefore, I will be rating this Dell Inspiron 7577 a nine out of ten in this design review section.

Dell Inspiron 7577: Processor (CPU) Performance

The Dell Inspiron 7577 comes with a well-performing Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor. It is a quad-core processor which has a base frequency of 2.80 GHz.

Not only that, but the processor also has a maximum frequency of 3.80 GHz and a 6 MB cache memory. Considering these processor specs, the Dell Inspiron 7577 should be able to handle extensive processing tasks.

This is due to the fact that the Intel Core i7-7700HQ is a very fast processor that comes mostly with high-performance laptops.

In order to be certain about this processor’s ability, I will be sharing its result in the Cinebench R15 benchmark. A Cinebench R15 benchmark is a real-world test tool that evaluates a computer’s processing capabilities.

From the Cinebench R15, the higher the score, the better the performance of the laptop. Based on the test result, the Dell Inspiron 7577 scored 150 points.

Consequently, the Dell Inspiron 7577 score is lower than the average score of 155 points. However, Dell Inspiron 7577’s score happens to be the highest score in the benchmark test compared to its competitors.

Speaking of the competitors, the MSI GF62VR 7RF scored a lower 144 points in the same benchmark test. Also, Razer Blade (2016) had a score of 149 points which is also slightly lower than the Dell Inspiron 7577’s score.

In conclusion, the Dell Inspiron 7577’s processor is decent, it also outperforms the competitors I pitched it against in the benchmark test. Therefore, I will be rating it a nine out of ten in this processor review section.

Dell Inspiron 7577: Memory (RAM) Performance

Dell Inspiron 7577 uses DDR4 SO-DIMM RAM which has a speed of 2400 MHz. It comes with two RAM slots that support a maximum of 32 GB RAM.

However, my test model comes with 4GB of memory in each slot. With 8 GB of RAM, this laptop is capable of handling multiple tasks at the same time.

Specifically, with 8 GB of RAM, the Dell Inspiron 7577 should be able to open 25 browser tabs without lagging.

For more insight about the memory performance of the Dell Inspiron 7577, I will share with you, the result from the PCMark 10 benchmark. PCMark 10 is a test tool that measures the complete system performance based on real-world applications.

In the PC Mark 10 benchmark, it is important to note that the higher the score, the better the performance of the laptop.

Hence, from the benchmark test, the Dell Inspiron 7577 scored 4306 Points. This score by Dell Inspiron 7577 is a bit lower than the 4379 average points.

However, this performance is the best in the benchmark test compared to the competitors. For comparison, Acer Swift 3 SF315-41-R4W1 scored far lower with 2501 points.

This implies that the Dell Inspiron 7577 performance is very impressive in this memory review section. Therefore, I will be rating it an eight out of ten in this memory performance review section.

Dell Inspiron 7577: Storage Options & Performance

This Dell Inspiron 7577 comes with three storage options. Firstly, it comes with an HDD which takes up to a 2 TB capacity of storage space.

Secondly, this laptop comes with a SATA SSD storage drive which takes up to a capacity of 256 GB. Lastly, the Dell Inspiron 7577 comes with a PCIe NVMe SSD whose maximum capacity supported is 512 GB.

SSD storage is known for its faster speed in comparison with HDD storage options. Hence, if you decide to choose either the SATA SSD or NVMe SSD, you will get fast storage speed.

On the other hand, the HDD storage option is not as fast as the SSDs. However, it offers you massive storage space.

Meanwhile, this review focuses on a Dell Inspiron 7577 model that comes with a 256 GB NVMe SSD. In addition to that, the laptop features an SD card in case 256 GB is not enough.

To be sure of this laptop’s storage speed, I will present the CrystalDiskmark benchmark test result. CrystaDiskMark is a benchmark that measures the read and writes speeds of a storage drive.

It is also worth noting that, on the CrystaDiskMark benchmark test, the higher the read and write speeds, the better the laptop’s performance.

In case you are wondering what read and write speeds are, read speed measures how long it takes to open a file. Meanwhile, write speed measures how long it takes to save a file on a computer.

Moving on to the benchmark test result, the Dell Inspiron 7577 had a sequential read speed of 508.28 MBps. Also, it had a sequential write speed of 259.89 MBps.

In comparison, this MSI GF62VR 7RF had a sequential read speed of 234.91 MBps. Meanwhile, it had a sequential write speed of 1370.77 MBps.

In conclusion, the Dell Inspiron 7577 does not only come with sufficient storage space, but its storage performance is also impressive.

Therefore, I will be rating the Dell Inspiron 7577 a seven in this storage performance review section.

Dell Inspiron 7577: Graphics Card Performance

It might interest you to know that this laptop features four graphics options to choose from.

Firstly, this laptop comes with an Intel HD Graphics 630. This is an integrated GPU with a base frequency of 300 MHz and a maximum GPU frequency of 1,100 MHz.

Secondly, the Dell Inspiron 7577 comes with dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics. A dedicated GPU is different from an integrated GPU because it has a VRAM which makes it more powerful.

Speaking of the VRAM, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card has a Video RAM of 3 GB GDDR5. Also, this GPU has a base GPU frequency of 1392 MHz and a maximum GPU frequency of 1518 MHz.

Thirdly, there is the dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti which features 4 GB GDDR5 VRAM. This third graphics card comes with a base and boost frequency of 1290 MHz and 1392 MHz respectively.

Lastly, there is the dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q graphics card which comes with 6 GB GDDR5 VRAM. This graphics card has 1063 MHz as its base frequency and its boost frequency of 1480 MHz.

With four graphics configurations available for the Dell Inspiron 7577, you can choose a model that best suits your graphics need. However, for the purpose of performance evaluation, I will focus on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q GPU configuration.

With NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q graphics card on this laptop, you need not worry about gaming. Specifically, in the gaming test performed by notebookcheck.com, the Dell Inspiron 7577 played Middle-earth: Shadow of War (2017) at 82 fps – medium setting.

Also, the laptop is capable of playing Fallout 4 (2015) at 78.4 fps – high setting. Now that you have an idea of the gaming performance of this laptop, I will share with you the overall graphics performance using 3D Mark 10.

A 3D mark 10 Benchmark is a test tool that evaluates the 3D graphics rendering ability of a GPU. Just like the other benchmarks, the higher the score the better the graphics performance of the laptop.

From the benchmark, the Dell Inspiron 7577 scored 6375 points. This score seems impressive, however, we can’t be so sure about that yet without comparing it with other laptops.

Therefore, in comparison with the Lenovo Legion Y520, the Dell Inspiron 7577 underperformed. Specifically, the Lenovo Legion Y520 scored 7795 points.

On the other hand, Dell Inspiron 7577’s score was higher than ASUS Zenbook UX510UW‘s score of 4133 points.

The performance of the Dell Inspiron 7577 in this benchmark shows that it can handle any graphics-intensive task, including high-end gaming. Hence, I will be rating it an eight out of ten in this graphics review section.

Dell Inspiron 7577: Battery Life and Performance

The laptop features a 4-cell, 56 WHr Lithium-ion battery. Meanwhile, Dell failed to give the actual battery life of the Dell Inspiron 7577.

However, being a gaming laptop, I was not expecting much in terms of the Dell Inspiron 7577 battery life. Nevertheless, with 4 cells and a 56 WHr battery, you can be certain of decent battery life.

That being said, let’s take a look at how long this battery lasts in a real-world battery test. According to a battery test performed by notebookcheck.com, the Dell Inspiron 7577’s battery lasted 9 hours and 59 minutes on idle.

Furthermore, this laptop lasted 5 hours 22 minutes while surfing the web on a WiFi network.

In comparison, ASUS GL503VD-DB74 lasted 10 hours 47min on idle. Meanwhile, the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 7567 can last for 19 hours 34 minutes at idle.

These competitors delivered a significantly better battery life than Dell Inspiron 7577.

However, Dell Inspiron 7577’s battery performance is not all that terrible considering that it is a gaming laptop. Therefore, I will be rating the Dell Inspiron 7577 a seven in this battery life review section.
