Dell Inspiron 5577: At First Glance

Dell is a popular laptop manufacturer that is currently causing a stir in the gaming laptop market. To add to its gaming laptop collection, Dell released the Inspiron 5577 laptop.

This gaming laptop offers performance that isn’t just ideal for gaming but also for intensive computing tasks. Basically, this laptop comes with a powerful processor as well as multiple graphics card options.

With all that being said, let us get to know more about this gaming laptop in subsequent sections below.

Dell Inspiron 5577: Design, Dimension and Weight

Unlike most gaming laptops, Dell didn’t go with a shiny reflective look for the Dell Inspiron 5577’s design. Instead, the brand went for something that portrays “a powerful laptop”.

Practically, the Dell Inspiron 5577 comes with a plastic chassis. This laptop’s chassis features a bold matte-black finish and even though it is made of plastic, it is very sturdy.

However, the lid of the laptop flexes a little when pushed with force. Speaking of the lid, there is a “Dell” logo at the center of the laptop’s lid.

This logo comes with a sleek red finish that gives the laptop a flashy look. Moreover, when you open this lid, you will be greeted by the Dell Inspiron 5577’s 15.6-inch display.

This display features an FHD (1920 x 1080) resolution that enables it to render clear and sharp picture quality. However, this display offers poor viewing angles.

Therefore, when viewing the laptop’s display off-center, colors will look somewhat washed-out. Hence, reducing the overall picture quality of the display.

In addition to its poor viewing angles, the Inspiron 5577’s display is surrounded by thick bezels that might cause a distraction when gaming. Moreover, like the laptop’s chassis, these bezels feature a matte-black finish.

Also, the bottom bezel comes with a “Dell” logo while the top bezel houses an HD webcam. This webcam is very good for casual video calls and regular skyping.

However, for taking selfies, the webcam isn’t ideal due to the fact that it produces grainy and blurry pictures.

Moving on, the Dell Inspiron 5577 features a full-sized red-backlit keyboard with a dedicated number pad. Furthermore, the keys on this keyboard are well-spaced and large enough to perfectly fit different sizes of fingers.

As a result, this laptop’s keyboard should offer a comfortable typing experience. Underneath this keyboard, you will find the Inspiron 5577’s touchpad with integrated click buttons.

Moreover, this touchpad is quite spacious and features a smooth surface for seamless navigation. Interestingly, the touchpad is surrounded by red highlights that make it look appealing.

With all that being said, now let us talk about the laptop’s ports. To start with, the Dell Inspiron 5577 comes with a good number of ports.

To give more details, these ports are split between the left and right sides of the laptop. Specifically, on the left side, you will find a power adapter, two USB 3.0 ports, and a headphone jack.

Meanwhile, the right side of the laptop features an SD media card reader, one USB 3.0 port, an HDMI port, and an Ethernet port.

For dimensions and weight, the Dell Inspiron 5577 measures 383 x 265 x 25.3 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 2570 g. With this amount of weight, I doubt that you will be able to carry this laptop around easily.

Nevertheless, the laptop should fit perfectly in a backpack without issues. However, when compared to the ASUS Vivobook Pro N552VW, this Dell Inspiron laptop is slightly heavy.

To be more specific, the ASUS Vivobook Pro N552VW weighs 2530 g and measures 383 x 260 x 30 mm (W x D x H).

Hence, to conclude this design review section, I will rate the Dell Inspiron 5577 an eight out of ten.

Dell Inspiron 5577: Processor (CPU) Performance

Coming to the processor, the Dell Inspiron 5577 uses a quad-core Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU. This processor features a cache memory of 6 MB.

In addition to its cache memory, this processor features a 2.80 GHz base frequency and a maximum frequency of 3.80 GHz. Moreover, the Intel Core i7-7700HQ is a power-efficient and fast processor that is capable of handling most computing tasks including hard-core gaming.

Therefore, with this CPU, the Dell Inspiron 5577 should be able to smoothly run intensive applications like Adobe Photoshop. Also, this laptop will be able to handle demanding tasks like video editing as well as heavy multitasking.

With that being said, let us now examine the laptop’s Geekbench 4.1 test result to further prove its processor performance. Briefly, Geekbench 4.1 is a cross-platform benchmark test that evaluates the overall processing performance of a computer.

Moreover, a high score on this test means a good processor performance. Thus, based on the Geekbench 4.1 test results, the Dell Inspiron 5577 scored 14679 points.

Although this laptop’s score is practically high, it isn’t enough to beat one of its competitors (Acer Nitro 5 AN515-51-788E). To be more specific, the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-51-788E which uses an Intel Core i7-8550U processor scored 14975 points on the Geekbench 4.1 test.

Nevertheless, I believe the Dell Inspiron 5577 deserves an eight out of ten in this processor review section.

Dell Inspiron 5577: Memory (RAM) Performance

When it comes to the memory department, the Dell Inspiron 5577 features two memory slots. Also, this laptop comes with a standard memory of 8 GB and supports a maximum memory of 32 GB.

Therefore, if you feel the games you will be playing on this laptop requires more than 8 GB of RAM, you could easily upgrade the laptop’s memory. However, I doubt that will be necessary because most games nowadays require a maximum of 8 GB RAM or less.

Besides, with 8 GB RAM, the Dell Inspiron 5577 should be able to multitask with ease. To give more details, this laptop should operate smoothly even when 20 Chrome tabs are running simultaneously.

Moreover, switching between these Chrome tabs should be seamless and the laptop won’t lag a bit.

That said, to further prove the Dell Inspiron 5577’s performance with 8 GB memory, we will now discuss its result on a PCMark 10 benchmark test. PCMark 10 test is a benchmark test that effectively measures the memory performance of computers by emulating real-world productivity tasks.

Furthermore, according to the setting of this test, a high score represents a great memory performance. Therefore, based on the test results, the Dell Inspiron 5577 scored 5068 points.

This score is significantly above the category average of 3000 points. Also, this laptop performed significantly better when compared to another Dell Inspiron laptop (Dell Inspiron 1520).

Specifically, on the PCMark 10 test, the Dell Inspiron 1520 scored 3720 points.

In conclusion, the Dell Inspiron 5577 offers sufficient standard and maximum memory. Therefore, I will rate the laptop a nine out of ten in this memory review section.

Dell Inspiron 5577: Storage Options and Performance

For storage, the Dell Inspiron 5577 offers two storage options – SATA HDD and M.2 PCIe SSD. The SATA HDD storage option offers a maximum storage capacity of 1 TB.

The M.2 PCIe SSD, on the other hand, supports a maximum storage capacity of 512 GB. Before moving forward, I would like to mention that this review is based on the Dell Inspiron 5577 with a 512 GB M.2 PCIe SSD storage option.

In my opinion, a storage capacity of 512 GB should be enough for most users to save regular files like pictures and songs. However, for installing high-end games, I doubt if that amount of storage space will be enough.

Thankfully, the Dell Inspiron 5577 offers an SD card reader for storage expansion. Nevertheless, if you think that isn’t enough, then it is best you purchase this Dell laptop with an HDD storage option.

This is because the HDD storage option offers a larger storage capacity. However, the benefit of using a laptop with an SSD storage option is the speed.

To be more specific, unlike HDDs, SSDs are significantly fast and they also do not make any noise when operating. In order to verify this claim, I will now highlight the file transfer (copy) test result of the Dell Inspiron 5577 with an SSD storage option.

Basically, on a file transfer test, the Dell Inspiron 5577 was able to transfer 4.97 GB of multimedia files in 44 seconds at a transfer rate of 115.7 MB/s. Comparatively, this laptop has a faster transfer rate than the Acer Aspire VX 15 which also uses an SSD storage option.

To be more specific, the Acer Aspire VX 15 was only able to transfer 4.97 GB of multimedia files at a rate of 103 MB/s.

In conclusion, the Dell Inspiron 5577 offers multiple storage options including an impressively-fast SSD storage option. Therefore, in this storage review section, I will rate the Dell Inspiron 5577 a nine out of ten.

Dell Inspiron 5577: Graphics Card Performance

As a gaming laptop, it is not surprising that the Dell Inspiron 5577 offers a dedicated graphics card. However, this laptop doesn’t just offer a dedicated graphics card, it also offers an integrated graphics card option.

Thus, this laptop comes with two graphics card options. These graphics card options include an integrated Intel HD Graphics 630 GPU and a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 GPU.

The Intel HD Graphics 630 GPU offers a base frequency of 350 MHz and a boost frequency of 1100 MHz. However, as an integrated graphics card, this GPU is embedded into the laptop’s processor.

Thus, the graphics card lacks a dedicated VRAM and shares the laptop’s memory with the CPU to perform graphics-related tasks. Therefore, the GPU won’t be able to run graphics-intensive applications or games smoothly.

The dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 GPU, on the other hand, offers a base frequency of 1392 MHz. Also, this graphics card offers a boost frequency of 1518 MHz.

Moreover, as a dedicated graphics card, this NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 features 2 GB GDDR5 dedicated VRAM. Therefore, with this GPU, the Dell Inspiron 5577 should be able to run most games with ease.

For example, when playing Rise of the Tomb Raider, this Dell laptop should be able to deliver a playable frame rate of 50 fps. Having said that, with the dedicated graphics card, now let us examine the Dell Inspiron 5577’s performance on a 3DMark test.

To be clear, the 3DMark test is a benchmark that measures a computer’s ability to render 2D and 3D graphics. Furthermore, on this test, a good graphics performance is indicated by a high score.

So, from the 3DMark test results, the Dell Inspiron 5577 scored 5819 points. In comparison, this Dell laptop outperformed the ASUS VivoBook Pro N552VW that uses a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M graphics card.

To be more specific, the ASUS VivoBook Pro N552VW scored 5,277 points on the 3DMark test.

All things considered, I will be rating the Dell Inspiron 5577 a nine out of ten in this graphics card review section.

Dell Inspiron 5577: Battery Life and Performance

The Dell Inspiron 5577 is powered by a 6-cell 74 Whrs lithium-ion battery. However, Dell never mentioned how long this laptop will last with this battery.

Therefore, to know the battery life of the laptop, we will now examine the laptop’s result on a battery rundown test. The battery rundown test involves continuously surfing the internet via a WIFI connection while the laptop’s brightness level is at 60%.

At the end of this test, the Dell Inspiron 5577 was able to last for 4 hours and 40 minutes. Unfortunately, this battery life is about an hour less than the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-51-788E‘s 5 hours and 35 minutes battery life.

To make things even worse, it takes the Dell Inspiron 5577 about 3 hours to charge from 0% to 100%. Moreover, it is worth mentioning that the battery of this laptop isn’t removable.

After thorough consideration, I will rate the Dell Inspiron 5577 a seven out of ten in this battery review section.

The Dell Inspiron 5577 is a laptop that isn’t just meant for gaming but also for performing intensive computing tasks. Furthermore, this laptop comes with a powerful Core i7 processor and a dedicated graphics card.

Apart from that, this Dell laptop also offers sufficient standard and maximum memory. To top that up, the laptop offers two storage options including a speedy SSD storage type.
