Build the preview as an HTML page, load fonts that cover the target script, and capture it with Puppeteer’s Page.screenshot(). Puppeteer captures the page; correct Indic text depends on the fonts, shaping, and layout in the Chromium environment that renders it.
1. Build the preview as a web page
Create a fixed-size card in HTML and CSS, with explicit colors, spacing, typography, and text. Then open that page in Puppeteer and capture it with Page.screenshot(). The API captures a page; it does not define a universal social-preview size or provide a template. Set dimensions to the requirements of the platform or publishing system you are targeting.
Puppeteer automates Chrome and Firefox, but the output depends on the browser runtime and assets available when the page renders. Chrome’s Puppeteer documentation describes Puppeteer’s browser automation role.
2. Choose fonts for the script, not just the language name
Indian scripts need appropriate glyph coverage and shaping. Chromium segments text into script-specific runs, shapes it, selects fonts, and can fall back when a chosen font lacks a glyph. Fallback is not a guarantee that every character will render correctly; a Latin-focused font should not be assumed to cover an Indic script. See Chromium’s Unicode overview and RenderText overview.

Noto documents distinct families for Bengali, Devanagari, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Tamil, and Telugu. Its guidance distinguishes compact UI variants, suited to limited vertical space, from non-UI families intended for documents. Choose a family with coverage for the actual script and a line-height that fits your card; neither a language label nor a font that works for one script establishes coverage for another. For a card mixing Latin and an Indian script, define a deliberate fallback stack and check that each run is served by a font with suitable coverage. Include the font files in the rendering environment or load them as page assets. Wait for those assets before capturing; otherwise, the browser may take the screenshot before the intended font is ready.

3. Create and capture a card with Puppeteer
This minimal Node.js example writes a page to a local file, opens it in Puppeteer, waits for web fonts, and saves a PNG. Install Puppeteer in your project and make sure the font file path resolves from the HTML file. Replace the sample text, dimensions, and font with your target script and platform requirements.

The Devanagari family in this example is not a universal Indian-script font: choose an appropriate family and update lang, text, and font assets for each target script. If you use a remote font, ensure the rendering environment can reach it and wait for it to load before capture.

4. Preserve complete graphemes when shortening text
A visible character can consist of multiple codepoints. Slicing a JavaScript string at an arbitrary UTF-16 offset can split a displayed cluster, potentially leaving a sign or conjunct detached. Chromium’s Unicode overview emphasizes: “Graphemes are not breakable!” Use grapheme-aware segmentation when truncating, and keep the entire cluster together. This matters whether text is shortened before it reaches the card or inside the page.
5. Validate the rendered image
Check the actual PNG in the same browser runtime and deployment environment you intend to use. A successful screenshot call does not establish that every script rendered or that the layout fits.

- Include representative text from every target script, plus mixed-script examples if your cards use them.
- Inspect glyph shapes, conjuncts, vowel signs, punctuation, and font fallback.
- Check line wrapping, headline clipping, line height, and whether all text fits within the card.
- Repeat the check with the production font assets and browser runtime rather than relying only on a local preview.
These checks follow from documented shaping, font selection, and layout behavior; they are validation guidance, not a claim of cross-platform testing.

Hindi or another script appears as boxes or missing glyphs
The selected font may lack the required glyphs, or the intended font may not have loaded before capture. Use a script-appropriate font, confirm the asset is available to the renderer, and wait for document.fonts.ready. Inspect the generated image rather than inferring success from the page loading.

Text looks disconnected or a mark appears detached
Check that the rendered run uses a suitable script font, then look for code that slices text by arbitrary string offsets. Preserve complete grapheme clusters when truncating; do not split a visible character into separate pieces.
The correct font works locally but not in deployment
The production renderer may not have the same font files or access to remote font assets. Include the required font assets in the rendering environment or serve them as page assets, then validate using that environment’s browser.
The headline is clipped or wraps differently than expected
Review the card dimensions, font size, line height, and available text area. Test representative script text in the final layout; shaping and font metrics affect how much space it occupies.
The screenshot is blank or incomplete
Confirm that the page loaded, its assets are available, and the capture runs after the font is ready. The Puppeteer screenshot API documents capture behavior but does not prescribe a complete deployment recipe for every font or container setup.
