As of October 25, 2026, The Purge: Anarchy is not listed in the Netflix US catalog. Flixboss reports that Netflix removed it from the United States on January 2, 2026. A current catalog guide reports the film on Netflix Germany, so a US subscriber can try connecting to a German VPN server and searching again, but Netflix may block the connection or show only its global catalog. This is an attempt, not a reliable unlock. If it fails, a FlickFinder catalog snapshot lists Prime Video in the United States, and Universal Pictures At Home lists digital rental or purchase plus 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions.
Is The Purge: Anarchy on Netflix in the US?
No. Current catalog reports do not list the film on Netflix US. Flixboss reports a removal date of January 2, 2026, while FlickFinder’s October 21, 2026 catalog snapshot lists Netflix availability in 130 countries and Prime Video availability in the United States.
Those services are independent catalog trackers, not Netflix’s own account-level availability system. Streaming rights can change without notice, so search Netflix US directly before subscribing to another service or starting a VPN setup. A title can also disappear between a tracker’s update and the moment you check.
| Option | What the current evidence says | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Netflix US | Not listed; Flixboss reports removal on January 2, 2026. | Third-party catalog information; verify in the Netflix app or website. |
| Netflix Germany | A current guide reports the film there. | Availability can change, and Netflix may restrict VPN traffic. |
| Prime Video US | Listed by FlickFinder’s October 21, 2026 snapshot. | Check whether it is included with a subscription or offered only as a rental or purchase. |
| Digital and disc editions | Universal Pictures At Home lists digital buy/rent and 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD ownership. | Retailer, edition, audio, subtitle, and price details vary by market and date. |
Which country has The Purge: Anarchy on Netflix?
A current viewing guide reports the movie on Netflix Germany. That makes Germany the most specific country to test first, but it does not establish permanent availability or guarantee that every German IP address will receive the same result.
#1 Best Overall
Netflix explains that catalogs differ by country because licensing rights may be unavailable, several rights owners may be involved, or another company may hold exclusive rights in a particular territory. Connecting from the United States therefore does not automatically provide access to a title licensed for Germany.
The “130 countries” figure comes from FlickFinder’s October 21, 2026 catalog snapshot. It describes the number of countries where Netflix’s catalog was reported to be available, not the number of countries carrying this particular film.
How do I try watching the movie through a German VPN server?
You can make a controlled attempt by presenting a German network address to Netflix, restarting the service, and searching again. The process does not change the home country of your Netflix account, and success depends on whether Netflix accepts the VPN address and whether the German catalog still carries the film.

The current guide names Private Internet Access, ExpressVPN, and NordVPN as providers that list German servers. Treat those names as examples of services with Germany locations, not as a promise that any one provider will work.
- Install and sign in to the VPN app. Use the provider’s official application for your device, then open its location list. Select Germany, preferably a city or endpoint with a normal residential-looking IP address if the app offers several choices.
- Connect before opening Netflix. Wait until the VPN reports that the German connection is active. Do not leave Netflix running in the background while changing locations; an already-open session may retain the previous region information.
- Fully close Netflix. On a phone, tablet, smart-TV app, or streaming box, exit the app and remove it from the recent-apps list if the device supports that. In a browser, close every Netflix tab. This forces a new session after the location change.
- Reopen Netflix and sign in with your existing account. You do not need to create a German account. Open the normal Netflix service, then search for The Purge: Anarchy using the title’s punctuation and spelling.
- Check the result page and playback. Seeing a search result is not enough; open the title and confirm that the play button appears. A listing can disappear or fail when Netflix rechecks the connection.
- Try another German endpoint if necessary. Disconnect, select a different Germany server, reconnect, close Netflix again, and repeat the search. VPN addresses are treated individually, so one blocked endpoint does not prove that every German endpoint is blocked.
- Stop if Netflix identifies the connection. If Netflix displays a VPN/proxy warning, repeatedly returns the global catalog, or refuses playback, do not treat the attempt as successful. Netflix can change its detection rules and licensing data at any time.
Why doesn’t the movie appear after I connect to Germany?
The most common explanation is that Netflix has identified the VPN or has not accepted the location as a normal German connection. Netflix’s help documentation says a VPN may show only titles available globally, and its troubleshooting guidance warns that a VPN or proxy can produce the message, “You seem to be using a VPN or proxy. Please turn off any of these services and try again.”

The VPN address is blocked
Large VPN services use shared addresses. Netflix can classify an address as a proxy even when the VPN connection itself is functioning. Switching to another German endpoint may produce a different result, but there is no guaranteed server or permanent workaround.
Netflix is still using the old session
If the app or browser remained open while you changed locations, it may retain the previous catalog response. Fully closing Netflix, reconnecting to Germany, and starting a new session removes that common source of confusion.
The title is no longer licensed in Germany
The guide reporting German availability is a point-in-time listing. Rights can expire or move to another service, so a missing result may reflect a real catalog change rather than a VPN failure.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Netflix is showing only its global catalog
Netflix states that VPN users may be limited to programs available worldwide. If the title is not part of that global selection, the movie will remain hidden even though the VPN connection appears active.
The account or device still detects a proxy
Some devices route traffic through additional services, such as a corporate network, DNS filtering, or a second privacy app. Temporarily disconnect other proxy-like tools, then test with one VPN connection and one Netflix session. Do not alter account country details or payment information merely to test a catalog.
What should I do when Netflix shows a VPN or proxy error?
Use the message as a stop signal rather than repeatedly refreshing the title page. Netflix’s own guidance is to turn off the VPN or proxy when that warning appears.
| Symptom | Practical response | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| “You seem to be using a VPN or proxy” message | Disconnect the VPN and retry Netflix normally. If you are testing Germany, close Netflix first, then try one different German endpoint once. | Netflix has identified the connection as a VPN or proxy; continued retries may not help. |
| Netflix opens but the title is absent | Confirm the VPN says Germany, close and reopen Netflix, and search again. If it remains absent, check whether the German listing has changed. | The endpoint may be blocked, or the title may no longer be in Germany. |
| Only a small set of familiar titles appears | Disconnect and compare the catalog with your normal US session. | Netflix may be limiting the session to globally available titles. |
| The title page appears but playback fails | Stop the test, turn off the VPN, and check legitimate US viewing options. | Discovery and playback are separate checks; a listing does not guarantee streaming permission. |
| Netflix behaves differently on different devices | Test one device and one browser session at a time, closing the app completely between attempts. | Cached sessions, device networking, or app-level proxy handling can differ. |
Can I use a Netflix ad-supported plan with a VPN?
Netflix says VPNs are not supported on its ad-supported experience. Moving to an ad-free plan avoids that specific plan restriction, but it does not guarantee that Netflix will allow a Germany-specific title through a VPN or that the title will still be licensed there.
Plan changes also do not alter the underlying rights agreement. If your goal is simply to watch the film, compare the time and cost of a legitimate US rental, purchase, or disc with the uncertainty of a VPN attempt.

Which VPN should I choose for this test?
No provider can be presented as guaranteed to unlock the movie. The current guide names Private Internet Access, ExpressVPN, and NordVPN because each lists German locations, but the available information does not establish comparative success rates, logging terms, prices, refund conditions, device coverage, or current Netflix program eligibility.
Evaluate a service using these checks before paying:
- Does its current server list clearly include Germany?
- Does the app support your exact device, such as a smart TV, streaming box, phone, tablet, or browser?
- Are privacy and logging terms easy to read and specific about connection data?
- What is the recurring price after any introductory period, and what refund window applies?
- Does the provider explain how it handles blocked streaming endpoints without promising access to a particular catalog?
- Can you cancel without losing access to another service you already use?
These checks help you avoid buying a plan solely for one volatile title. They do not predict whether Netflix will accept a particular server tomorrow.
Where can I watch the movie in the US if Netflix fails?
A US fallback is more predictable than relying on a changing VPN result. FlickFinder’s October 21, 2026 snapshot lists Prime Video in the United States. The snapshot does not establish whether the film is included in a Prime subscription, available only as a rental or purchase, or offered in a particular quality tier, so inspect the current Prime Video page before paying.
Universal Pictures At Home states that the film is available to buy or rent digitally and to own on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Retail listings can differ in price, subtitles, audio tracks, bonus material, and delivery region. A disc purchase also provides a durable copy, while a digital transaction remains subject to the retailer’s account and playback terms.
| Viewing route | Payment model | Quality and access questions to check |
|---|---|---|
| Prime Video US | Subscription inclusion, rental, or purchase status not established by the catalog snapshot | Check current price, HD or 4K label, subtitles, audio, and whether playback is tied to your US account. |
| Digital rental | One-time rental fee; current amount not stated | Confirm the rental window, start-by deadline, supported devices, and available languages. |
| Digital purchase | One-time purchase; current amount not stated | Check whether the retailer supplies HD or 4K, permits downloads, and supports your devices. |
| 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, or DVD | One-time physical purchase; current amount not stated | Verify disc region, player compatibility, included audio and subtitle tracks, and shipping availability. |
What is the film’s runtime and rating?
Universal Pictures At Home identifies The Purge: Anarchy as a 2014 thriller/horror film directed by James DeMonaco and starring Frank Grillo, Carmen Ejogo, and Zach Gilford. Its listed runtime is 1 hour 44 minutes, and it carries an R rating for strong disturbing violence and language.
Those details can help you distinguish the film from other entries in the franchise when searching a retailer or library catalog. They do not indicate which service currently streams it or whether a particular edition includes extras.

What is the quickest decision if I want to watch tonight?
- Search Netflix US without a VPN and confirm that the movie is absent.
- If you already have a VPN, one Germany test is reasonable: connect, fully restart Netflix, and search.
- If Netflix shows the VPN/proxy warning, only the global catalog, or no playable title, stop troubleshooting rather than repeatedly changing servers.
- Check the current Prime Video US listing and compare its rental or purchase terms with digital and physical options from Universal’s listed formats.
- Before paying, verify the edition, quality, subtitles, audio, and availability for your US account or delivery address.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a VPN change my Netflix account’s home country?
No. A VPN changes the network location Netflix sees for that connection; it does not transfer your account, billing country, or subscription agreement to Germany. Netflix can still limit the session or require the VPN to be disabled.
Will every German VPN server show the same Netflix catalog?
Not necessarily. Netflix evaluates individual IP addresses, and one endpoint may be blocked while another is treated differently. Even an accepted German connection can lose access if the title’s license changes.
Can I rely on the 130-country figure to find the movie somewhere?
No. The 130-country number describes Netflix catalog coverage in a third-party October 2026 snapshot, not the number of countries carrying this film. It should not be used as a guarantee of availability for any specific country.
Is a 4K disc the same as 4K streaming?
No. Universal lists a 4K Ultra HD physical edition, but that does not establish that a streaming service offers a 4K stream. Check the retailer’s quality label and device requirements separately.
