Rockstar North development head Rob Nelson says players can “rob pretty much anything” in Grand Theft Auto VI—but the demonstration behind that claim showed one specific shop, not every business in the game. Nelson demonstrated robbing a store that sells headphones, including a safe, police gathering outside and an escape through a back door.
What Rockstar demonstrated
During a gameplay demonstration interview, Nelson entered a shop selling headphones and described robbing it. He said he should have positioned a getaway vehicle outside, but proceeded without preparing one. The sequence then showed him locating a safe and finding its combination. He had an explosive that could damage some of the safe’s contents; police gathered outside, and he escaped through a rear door. Read the reported interview transcript.

That sequence gives the “pretty much anything” remark a concrete example, but it does not establish a full list of eligible targets or explain every robbery rule. The details come from a demonstrated build and Nelson’s interview, not independent testing of the finished game.

Not on the evidence available. Nelson used the broad phrase “You can rob pretty much anything,” then illustrated it with the headphone shop. The interview does not confirm that every store, building, or mission location can be robbed, nor does it document the final game’s complete robbery system.

Nelson also described robberies as part of what players can do between story missions. In the same interview, he discussed a Criminal Profile system and a relationship system for Jason and Lucia, and included robbing stores and banks among activities the two can share. Those comments establish that robberies fit into the wider open-world activity set; they do not specify which individual locations are available. See the interview coverage of those systems.
