Start with Activision Online Services for the exact Call of Duty title and platform. If the service indicator is green, use this order: fully quit the game, restart the console or PC and router, switch to wired Ethernet, stop other uploads and downloads, test the platform network, then check NAT with UPnP before trying port forwarding. PC players should then repair files, use Activision’s recommended graphics drivers, complete shader preloading, and verify that the computer meets the SSD, RAM, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirements for the title.
This sequence applies to Modern Warfare 4, Black Ops 7, Warzone, Black Ops 6 and older online titles. It covers crashes, freezes, “Could not complete matchmaking,” “Failed to Start Matchmaking,” “Waiting for Relay,” “Fetching Online Profile,” “Your profile was signed out,” “Connection to online services lost,” “CONNECTION FAILED / Unable to access online services,” and launch-night stalls such as “Stuck Connecting to Online Services.”
Is Call of Duty down?
Check the Activision Online Services page before changing your router, reinstalling the game or changing PC settings. Activision’s Black Ops 6 support article says: “If you’re having trouble connecting to Call of Duty®: Black Ops 6, you should first check Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Server Status.” The same instruction appears in the Warzone connection guidance.

Also check the network belonging to your platform: PlayStation Network, Xbox network, Battle.net, Steam or Nintendo. Sign in to that account in the platform client first. If the client itself cannot sign in, Call of Duty is not the only service affected.
Launch-night and post-update queues
Modern Warfare 4’s full multiplayer launch began at midnight local time on October 23, 2026. A surge during roughly the first two hours can produce login and matchmaking waits before a status alert appears. Wait 15–30 minutes instead of repeatedly relaunching; repeated retries can keep you in a longer queue. The same pause is sensible after a major update when many players are signing in at once.
What should I do before changing router settings?
Run this short local pass in order. Test the game after each step so you know which change helped.
- Fully close Call of Duty. On Xbox, quit the game rather than relying on Quick Resume. On PlayStation, close the application from the home screen. On PC, exit the launcher as well as the game, then reopen it.
- Restart the console or PC. A clean boot clears a stalled sign-in token, a stuck network process and many temporary crashes.
- Use Ethernet. Activision says: “We strongly recommend using a wired Ethernet connection during online gameplay. A wired connection will allow your system to achieve optimal performance when playing an online game. Wi-Fi connections have a wide variance in reliability and bandwidth, and can dramatically affect the quality of online gameplay. Wired Ethernet connections will maintain the minimum bandwidth connection that is required for online gaming.” A Cat 6 cable is suitable for a console or desktop; a laptop or console without an Ethernet jack can use a USB Gigabit Ethernet adapter.
- Restart the router. Activision calls this one of the easiest and quickest connectivity fixes. Power it off, wait for it to finish shutting down, then power it back on and wait for internet service to return.
- Stop competing traffic. Pause video and music streams, downloads, cloud synchronization and gameplay uploads. Streaming your own gameplay consumes upload capacity, and many internet plans provide less upload than download.
- Run the platform test. On Xbox, go to Xbox button → Profile & system → Settings → General → Network settings → Test network connection; then run Test multiplayer connection for lag and disconnects. On PlayStation, use Settings → Network → Test Internet Connection. Activision points console users to speedtest.net in the console browser for a bandwidth and ping check.
- Identify managed networks. A school, office, hotel or other shared network may block required traffic. Ask its administrator rather than applying home-router instructions that you cannot control.
How do I fix “Could not complete matchmaking” and “Failed to Start Matchmaking”?
Those messages can come from an outage, a platform sign-in failure, packet loss, or NAT restrictions. First complete the status and local pass above; then inspect NAT and the specific symptom.
“Waiting for Relay” or “Fetching Online Profile”
These messages indicate that the game is still contacting online services. Confirm that the title and platform are online, sign in to the platform client, and restart the game after the router restart. If the message appears only during a launch surge, waiting 15–30 minutes is more useful than repeated relaunches.
“Your profile was signed out”
Sign back into the console, Battle.net, Steam or Xbox app account before opening Call of Duty. A stale platform token, an interrupted platform service or a brief server-side authentication problem can all produce a sign-out message. If the platform cannot maintain its own sign-in, wait for that service to recover.

“Connection to online services lost” or “CONNECTION FAILED / Unable to access online services”
Recheck Online Services, then the platform network, Ethernet link and router. If other devices are saturating the connection, stop their traffic. A persistent failure with a green service page points to NAT, ISP routing, a damaged install or account-specific authentication rather than proof of a global outage.

“Stuck Connecting to Online Services” in Modern Warfare 4
On launch nights, treat this as a possible queue surge first. After the initial wait, use the same restart, wired-connection and platform sign-in sequence. The official ports table currently has no Modern Warfare 4-specific row, so do not invent a new port list for it.
What does “LIVORNO – NAVAJO” mean?
That two-word string appears in community launch write-ups for Modern Warfare 4 and Black Ops 6, but Activision’s public crash and connection articles do not define it. Use the same outage, platform, router and file-repair checks; do not treat the phrase as an official diagnosis.
How do NAT, UPnP and port forwarding affect matchmaking?
NAT controls which peer connections your console or PC can make. Activision states: “Ultimately, an Open/Type 1 NAT will provide the best connection quality.” Moderate/Type 2 NAT can connect to Moderate/Type 2 or Open/Type 1 peers, while Strict/Type 3 can connect only to Open/Type 1 peers. A restricted NAT can therefore prevent a lobby from forming even when the servers are online.
Use the following official order, testing the game after each change. You need the router login; contact your ISP if you do not have it.
- UPnP first. Turn off existing Port Forwarding rules, enable Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), save, restart the router if required, and test matchmaking.
- Manual forwarding second. If UPnP fails, turn UPnP off, assign the console or PC a static local IP, enable Port Forwarding with the platform row below, and test again.
- DMZ only as a console test. Turn off Port Forwarding, put the console’s static IP in the router’s DMZ, test, then remove that IP from the DMZ immediately. Activision describes DMZ as a diagnostic test, not a permanent configuration.
If none of these changes helps, Activision’s next step is your ISP, not more in-game toggles. Only one device on a home network can normally own a given forwarded UDP 3074 mapping, so duplicate rules can create a new problem.

Official ports for the current Call of Duty platform cluster
Activision’s current table groups Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6, Warzone, Modern Warfare III and Modern Warfare II. UDP 3074 appears on every platform row. Modern Warfare 4 has no separate row in that table; use these values only as the closest official reference and follow the UPnP-first order.

Why does lag boot me from the lobby?
Lag is not limited to an active match. Activision’s Warzone guidance says: “Lag can also result in your getting booted from a match or from the multiplayer lobby while matchmaking.” Rubber banding (moving forward and snapping back), stuttering (a freeze followed by a skip) and delayed hit markers are typical signs.
Ping is influenced mainly by ISP quality and distance to the server. Call of Duty tries to place nearby players together to reduce that effect, but a thin local player pool or high ISP latency can still produce poor matches. A speedtest.net result is a snapshot of your line, not a guarantee of the path to a particular game server.
- Keep Ethernet connected and remove Wi‑Fi repeaters from the path where possible.
- Pause uploads and downloads, including cloud backup and live-streaming software.
- If your router offers Quality of Service (QoS), prioritize the console or PC; some routers include lag-oriented queue management.
- Do not add a VPN as a fix. It introduces another route and is contrary to the direct wired and ISP troubleshooting path.
How do I stop Call of Duty crashes and freezes on Xbox?
Activision reports that many Xbox crashes occur in the Public Multiplayer Lobby before a match or immediately after one. A crash normally returns you to the dashboard; relaunch after closing the application.
- Update the console: Xbox button → Profile & system → Settings → System → Updates.
- Place the Xbox in a cool, well-ventilated position and clear its cache.
- Reset the network adapter: Settings → Network → Network settings → Advanced settings → Alternate MAC Address → Clear, then restart.
- Check the game disc, if present, and remove unapproved third-party memory cards, controllers, chips or cables. Activision does not guarantee compatibility with such hardware.
- If crashes continue on a current, cool console, contact Xbox Support.
How do I fix PlayStation error CE-34878-0?
CE-34878-0 is the PlayStation application or system-software crash code commonly shown when Call of Duty drops to the dashboard. Restart the game and console first, then update system software and clear space.
- On PlayStation 5, open Settings → System → System Software Update and Settings → Update System Software. Automatic download and installation can be enabled there.
- On PlayStation 4, open Settings → System Software Update.
- Keep the console ventilated and delete old files or unnecessary game data.
- Disconnect unapproved third-party hardware while diagnosing the crash.
- If the error repeats after updates and cleanup, use PlayStation Support.
How do I fix Call of Duty crashes on PC?
PC crashes are usually approached as a stack: Windows health, hardware floor, GPU driver, file integrity, overlays and background tools, temperature, and overclocking. Work down this list rather than changing every setting at once.

Update Windows and use the recommended GPU driver
Black Ops 6 supports 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11, not Windows 7 or Windows 8. Activision cites Windows 11 KB5060842 (OS build 26100.4349, June 10, 2025) as improving NVIDIA stability. For Black Ops 6, the recommended versions published by Activision are NVIDIA 566.03, AMD 25.5.1 and Intel 32.0.101.6790. If a newer driver is unstable, roll back to the named version instead of assuming the newest package is best.

Let shader preloading finish
Activision warns: “Shader Preloading is an important part of the first boot process. Allow this process to complete before attempting to play the game. Navigating out of the Main Menu will cause the preloading to stop and can lead to performance issues.” Leave the game at the main menu until the process completes after an update or driver change.
Repair files in the launcher
- Battle.net: open the game’s options and choose Scan and Repair; close interfering background applications first.
- Steam: use Verify integrity of game files and disable programs that interfere with Steam.
- Microsoft Store or Xbox app: More (…) → Manage → Files → Verify and Repair.
Remove software conflicts
Activision specifically warns that input-remapping tools, overlays and recording software can disrupt boot or gameplay even when they are not visibly running. Uninstall or disable those tools while diagnosing. Add the entire Black Ops 6 game folder to antivirus exclusions. Comodo users can use Settings → Advanced Protection → Miscellaneous → Detect Shell Code Injections [Exclusion]; BullGuard users can open Settings → Main and uncheck Self protection. Update peripheral-control software, clean-boot Windows, re-enable ASLR if it was disabled, and turn off CPU or GPU overclocking and tuning software.
Use the crash-report path
If the crash persists after the driver and file checks, submit a Call of Duty PC Crash Report so the dump reaches the studio. The Black Ops 6 Bug Report form is the route for an unlisted problem.

Black Ops 6 requires broadband internet, DirectX 12 and an SSD. The following launch specifications were published by Activision in 2025; extra space is needed for mandatory updates, and the storage figure is for Black Ops 6 rather than the larger Warzone install. Only Intel and AMD CPUs with AVX are supported, and laptop GPUs with similar names may not meet the desktop requirement.

Can TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot cause matchmaking problems?
Yes. Activision’s October 21, 2026 guidance makes TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot mandatory in different ways. For Black Ops 7 and Warzone, missing either feature restricts modes and playlists, including Ranked Play, and may place the player in a separate matchmaking pool. Modern Warfare 4 requires both for any online game mode.
Requirements and checks
- Use Windows 10 version 22H2 or later, or Windows 11. TPM itself can run on Windows 10 20H2 or later, but Call of Duty requires 22H2 or later.
- Press Win+R, enter
tpm.msc, and confirm that the TPM is ready for use. - The usual CPU path is Intel 8th Gen or newer with Intel PTT, AMD Ryzen 2000 or newer with AMD CPU fTPM, or a discrete TPM chip.
- Secure Boot requires UEFI boot mode and a GPT system disk, not Legacy mode and MBR.
- Run Secure Attestation Wizard 1.3.0, updated October 21, 2026. Its result identifies failures such as disabled TPM, disabled Secure Boot, MBR partitioning, Legacy BIOS, firmware, authorization-key, UAC or TCG Event Log problems.
Changing UEFI or BIOS settings incorrectly can prevent Windows from booting. Activision says it is not responsible for those changes; use the motherboard maker’s instructions or a qualified professional, and keep a recovery plan before converting a disk or changing boot mode.
Which known issues should I check before assuming my setup is broken?

- Warzone also documents a temporary zero COD Points display after updates; quit and restart, potentially more than once.
When should I stop changing settings and report the problem?
Stop after the official status check, platform test, wired connection, router/NAT sequence and platform or PC repair path have been completed. Repeated port changes, permanent DMZ exposure and random driver swaps can make diagnosis harder. Report an unlisted game issue through the Call of Duty Bug Report form; submit a PC Crash Report for a Windows crash dump. Include the title, platform, exact message, time, region, NAT type and the steps already completed so support can separate a service incident from a local fault.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a Strict NAT mean for Call of Duty parties?
Strict/Type 3 NAT can normally connect only with players using Open/Type 1 NAT, so party joins and lobby formation can fail even while the game service is online. Check for double NAT or an ISP-provided gateway before forwarding ports, because a second router can prevent the first router’s rules from working.
Why does Call of Duty keep rebuilding shaders after every driver update?
A graphics-driver change invalidates cached shaders, so the game may need to compile them again. Leave the title at its main menu until preloading finishes; switching menus interrupts the process and can create stutter or later instability.
Can I use the same forwarded port rule for two consoles?
A single home router generally cannot map the same incoming UDP 3074 port to two different devices. Prefer UPnP, or give each console a separate network arrangement; duplicate manual rules can leave one console with a restricted NAT.

Activision ties Ranked access and some playlists to TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot attestation. A PC missing either feature may be restricted or placed in a separate pool even when ordinary online modes still load.
Does a green Activision status page rule out a regional outage?
No. The page can remain green while a short regional, platform-client or matchmaking-queue problem is developing. Check the platform’s own status and @ATVIAssist, and wait briefly during a launch or major update before repeatedly restarting.
