For the shortest manga-focused route through Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, watch episodes 1, 18–24, 39, 53–59, 61–66, 106–111, 148–151, 176, 181–189, 193–208, 212–220 and 282–293. Those are the manga-adapted episodes plus the two mixed episodes. You can skip the 102 episodes classified as pure filler. Anime-canon episodes are optional for a strict shortcut, but they add character development, world-building and continuity that later adapted episodes may reference.
The quick Boruto skip list
This guide covers Part 1 of the television anime through episode 293, which aired on March 26, 2023. The series began on TV Tokyo on April 5, 2017. A second part was announced as in development, so episode 293 is the endpoint for this list; check the current episode status if you are watching after a new part has been released.

| Manga canon | 18–24, 39, 53–59, 61–66, 106–111, 148–151, 181–189, 193–208, 212–220, 282–293 | Watch for the manga-derived main plot |
| Mixed canon/filler | 1 and 176 | Watch; each combines adapted and original material |

| Pure filler | 32–35, 48–50, 67–70, 96–97, 104–105, 112–114, 116–140, 152–156, 172, 209, 224, 227, 232–281 | Safest episodes to skip |
The pure-filler ranges contain 102 episodes out of Part 1’s 293. That total is reported both by Anime Filler List’s updated classification and by a 2026 Radio Times guide. Skipping only those ranges leaves the manga canon, mixed episodes and anime-canon material intact.
What “canon,” “anime canon” and “filler” mean here
Manga canon
“Manga canon” identifies episodes adapted from the Boruto manga, the Naruto spin-off manga The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring, or officially published novels. These episodes are the closest match to a manga-only viewing plan, although the anime can expand scenes or add transitions around the adapted material.
#1 Best Overall
Mixed canon/filler
A mixed episode contains both adapted material and anime-original scenes. Episodes 1 and 176 are in this category. Removing either one creates a gap in material that belongs partly to the adapted story, so they are included in every defensible shortcut.
Anime canon
Anime-canon episodes are not direct manga adaptations, but the classification guide uses the term for non-adapted episodes containing information that can be referenced in manga-adapted episodes. They often supply relationships, motivations, setting details and transitions between major plot points. “Anime canon” is therefore not the same as “irrelevant.”
Pure filler
Pure filler is the lowest-risk category to omit when your only goal is to follow the manga-derived plot. These episodes are outside the adapted storyline and are the 102 episodes listed in the skip table. They can still be enjoyable, but skipping them should not remove the core events covered by the manga-adapted route.

These labels are editorial classifications, not an official studio-issued canon standard. Lists can differ because the anime draws from several kinds of source material: the main manga, spin-off manga, the Boruto: Naruto the Movie story and the Naruto Shinden light novels, as well as original anime arcs. When two lists disagree, check whether one treats novel or anime-original continuity as canon rather than using “canon” to mean manga-only.
Episodes to watch for a strict manga-focused route
If you want the shortest route that still preserves the adapted story, watch the following blocks in order. Keep episode 1 and episode 176 even though neither is classified as completely manga canon.
| Block | Episodes | Why it remains in the route |
|---|---|---|
| Opening and early adapted material | 1, 18–24 | Episode 1 is mixed; episodes 18–24 are manga-adapted |
| First major manga-linked return | 39 | Manga canon |
| Next adapted storyline | 53–59, 61–66 | Manga canon |
| Later adapted material | 106–111 | Manga canon |
| Another manga-derived block | 148–151 | Manga canon |
| Transition episode | 176 | Mixed canon/filler |
| Core late-Part-1 run | 181–189, 193–208, 212–220 | Manga canon |
| Current Part-1 ending | 282–293 | Manga canon through the television endpoint |
There are 77 manga-canon episodes in these ranges, plus the two mixed episodes. If you watch only this route, you will jump over substantial stretches of anime-original storytelling, so some character appearances or changes in relationships may seem abrupt. That is the trade-off for speed.

Pure filler episodes you can skip
Skip these ranges when you are following the strict route:
- 32–35
- 48–50
- 67–70
- 96–97
- 104–105
- 112–114
- 116–140
- 152–156
- 172
- 209
- 224
- 227
- 232–281
The long run from episodes 232 through 281 accounts for 50 consecutive episodes, so it is where the largest time saving occurs. The earlier ranges are shorter interruptions scattered between adapted and anime-canon blocks. Use the episode numbers rather than arc names when skipping: streaming services sometimes group episodes under different season or arc labels, while the numbered list remains unambiguous.
Anime-canon episodes: skip, sample or watch?
Anime canon makes up the largest optional category. The complete anime-canon list is:

When skipping anime canon is reasonable
Skip these episodes if your priority is reaching the manga-derived plot as quickly as possible and you accept missing anime-original context. This is a shortcut, not a claim that the episodes have no value. You may notice that a character knows another character, that a village institution already exists, or that a conflict has emotional history that the manga-only route does not show in full.
When you should keep anime canon
Watch anime canon if you want the television anime’s broader continuity, more gradual character development or additional world-building. The classification itself warns that some non-adapted episodes contain information referenced later by adapted episodes. Keeping them is especially sensible if you are watching the anime once rather than trying to catch up under a deadline.

A practical compromise
Start with the manga-canon and mixed list, then add anime-canon blocks that interest you or that sit immediately before a major adapted block. This preserves the essential route while reducing the chance that a later scene feels unexplained. Because classifications are editorial and can change between guides, treat this as a viewing strategy rather than a universal rule.

Choose the route that matches your goal
| Goal | Episodes to watch | Time saved | Continuity risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fastest defensible route | Manga canon plus 1 and 176 | Skip 214 episodes: 102 pure filler plus 112 anime canon | Highest; anime-original setup and character context are absent |
| Balanced route | Manga canon, 1 and 176, plus selected anime-canon arcs | Depends on which anime-canon blocks you add | Moderate; you retain context where it matters to you |
| Complete Part 1 | Episodes 1–293 in order | None | Lowest; you receive every televised storyline |
The fastest route is 79 episodes, compared with all 293 episodes in Part 1. The 214-episode difference is a simple count from the classification above, not a promise about viewing hours: episode lengths, openings, endings and streaming playback options vary. The balanced route has no single episode total because it depends on which anime-canon blocks you retain.
How to follow the list without losing your place
- Set your target. Decide whether you want manga-only momentum, broader anime continuity or the complete experience before starting.
- Use numbered episodes. Record the next episode number in a notes app or watchlist. Season labels differ across services and home-video releases.
- Watch episode 1. It is mixed, so do not remove it from a manga-focused plan.
- Skip only the listed pure-filler ranges for the safest shortcut. If you are also skipping anime canon, mark those ranges separately so you know which kind of context you omitted.
- Resume at the first episode after each range. For example, after episode 31, resume at 36; after episode 140, resume at 141; after episode 281, resume at 282.
- Keep episode 176. It is mixed, even though it appears between anime-canon and manga-canon blocks.
- Stop at episode 293 for Part 1. Treat any later material as a continuation that needs its own current classification.
What you may miss when you skip
- Character development: anime-original stories can give supporting characters friendships, rivalries and personal goals that are only briefly visible in adapted episodes.
- World-building: missions and village-life stories expand how the shinobi world functions between major conflicts.
- Bridges between arcs: anime canon can explain why characters are together, where they have been stationed or how a new problem reaches the main cast.
- Tone and pacing: the manga-focused route moves rapidly from one major plot point to another, while the full anime spends more time on everyday life and side missions.
Skipping pure filler carries the least continuity risk because those episodes are classified as outside the adapted storyline. Skipping anime canon carries more risk because the category is specifically defined as non-adapted material that can contain information referenced by adapted episodes. If a later scene feels under-explained, the missing context is more likely to come from an anime-canon block than from one of the pure-filler ranges.
Why different Boruto filler lists disagree
There is no single studio-maintained public label that settles every episode’s status. One guide may call an episode “anime canon” because it supports the television continuity; another may reserve “canon” for direct manga adaptation. The anime’s use of spin-off manga, novels and film material adds further edge cases. Before following a new list, check three things:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Whether “canon” means manga-only or all officially authorized source material.
- Whether novel and film adaptations are counted separately from anime-original stories.
- Whether the list has been updated for the latest broadcast part.
For a manga-focused goal, the episode numbers in this article provide a clear, reproducible rule: retain manga canon and mixed episodes, skip pure filler, and treat anime canon as optional continuity.
Part 1 endpoint and future updates
Episode 293 aired on March 26, 2023 and is the current endpoint covered here. A second part was announced as in development, but an announcement does not itself provide a released episode list or new classification. When additional episodes become available, they should be evaluated with the same distinctions—manga adaptation, mixed material, anime canon and pure filler—rather than automatically extending the Part 1 ranges.
If you own the series on disc, releases are documented for the television anime, but edition, region, language, price and inventory vary. Verify those details with the seller before buying a DVD set.
