To manage a client website in Bluehost Agency Hosting, sign in to the Bluehost Portal, select Websites in the left-hand menu, then choose Manage Site beside the site. That workspace brings together the site’s domains, backups, performance controls, diagnostics, WordPress access, staging, and settings. Account-wide areas—including billing, users and roles, and domain services—remain in the portal’s main navigation.

The key is to start in the right scope: use the portal for account-level tasks and the site workspace for work on one client site. Bluehost Help describes the dashboard as a centralized place to manage client websites, domains, security, performance, team access, and hosting resources; its dashboard documentation was updated September 3, 2026.

Where do I find a client website in the Bluehost Agency Hosting Dashboard?

Open Websites from the Bluehost Portal’s left-hand navigation, find the client site, and select Manage Site. This is the main route to that site’s operational controls; the portal’s main navigation is for account-wide areas.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Sign in to the Bluehost Portal. The portal opens on Dashboard.
  2. Choose Websites in the left-hand menu to see and search the hosted-site list.
  3. Find the intended client site and select Manage Site beside it.
  4. Choose the relevant site-level section, such as Domains, Backups, Performance, or Settings.

The exact actions available can depend on your account role. If a control described here is missing, confirm that your role permits the task before assuming the site or feature is unavailable.

What belongs in the portal and what belongs in Manage Site?

Where to go Best for Examples
Portal main navigation Account-wide work Dashboard, Websites, Email, Domains, Hosting, Security, Services, Billing, Marketplace, Users & Roles
Websites → Manage Site Operating one client site Site domains, backups, performance resources, logs, database tools, WordPress users, staging, and settings

Think of Websites as the portfolio entry point and Manage Site as the workspace for an individual installation. If a task concerns a domain account-wide—for example, registering, transferring, or connecting an external domain—the portal’s Domains area may be the appropriate starting point.

Which dashboard route should I choose?

Use the scope, risk, skill level, reversibility, and resource impact of the task to choose a route. Account-wide domain registration belongs in the portal; checking whether that domain is attached to one site belongs in that site’s Domains tab. A visual control in Manage Site is generally the simplest option, while phpMyAdmin or SSH/SFTP is intended for advanced work. Staging and backup restoration provide a way back, whereas permanent deletion does not. Performance changes can also affect storage or PHP Worker allocation, so inspect the current resource picture before adjusting anything.

Task characteristic Lower-risk starting point Higher-risk or advanced route
Scope Site-level tab in Manage Site Account-wide portal control
Risk Staging copy or preview Direct production change
Skill level Visual dashboard control Database, SSH, or SFTP tool
Reversibility Backup restore or staging promotion Permanent deletion
Resource impact Review metrics first Change storage or PHP Worker allocation

What does the Overview tab show?

Use Overview for a quick operational snapshot before changing configuration or troubleshooting. It can bring together site identity, health and resource details, plus shortcuts to management actions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Site name and online status
  • Security and malware-scan status
  • WordPress and PHP versions
  • Data-center assignment
  • PHP Worker allocation and storage
  • Recent-backup information
  • Installed plugins and themes
  • Site-management actions

These are interface fields, not independent measurements or guarantees of site health. Use the relevant section—such as Backups or Performance—to inspect the associated controls and details rather than treating the Overview snapshot as a full diagnostic report.

Overview is especially useful at the start of a handoff. Confirm the site name, online status, WordPress version, PHP version, data-center assignment, and resource allocation before you make a change. Recording those values gives you a basic comparison point if the site behaves differently afterward.

How do I connect a domain and check DNS or SSL?

Open the site’s Domains tab to inspect its connected domains and their connection details. This is also where you can check the document root, DNS connection status, SSL status, temporary URL, and primary domain.

  1. Go to Websites and select Manage Site for the intended website.
  2. Open Domains.
  3. Review the listed domain and its DNS and SSL status, along with its document root and primary-domain designation.
  4. If the domain is not connected, use the available domain connection workflow. For registering, transferring, or connecting an external domain at the account level, open Domains from the portal navigation.

Check the domain and the site together before changing anything: a domain may be visible in the account’s Domains area while the site-specific view is where you verify its association and connection status. The dashboard exposes status information, but the available documentation does not specify DNS propagation timing or promise a particular time for SSL activation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is the difference between a temporary and primary domain?

The Domains tab exposes both the temporary URL and the primary-domain designation. Use the temporary URL when you need to identify the site before the public domain is fully connected, and verify which listed name is marked primary before changing domain settings. Do not infer that a listed domain is serving traffic simply because it appears in the account-level Domains area; check the site’s DNS and SSL status.

Where are backups, and how do I restore a site?

Open Backups in the site workspace to check protection and latest-backup status, access Jetpack Backup tools, review backup activity, and restore from an available restore point.

  1. Select Websites → Manage Site for the site.
  2. Choose Backups.
  3. Review the protection and latest-backup status and open the Jetpack Backup tools or backup activity as needed.
  4. Choose an available restore point only after confirming that you have selected the correct site and point in time.

A restore changes the site to a prior state, so treat it as a recovery operation rather than a routine diagnostic step. The dashboard documentation describes status, activity, and restoring from an available point; it does not establish a universal backup schedule or retention period. Check the backup tools for the actual points available to that site.

Before restoring, note what the client expects to keep. A restore point is useful when a recent change caused a failure, but restoring the wrong site or date can remove newer content. Confirm the site identity, review backup activity, and use staging when you need to inspect a proposed recovery without immediately changing production.

How do I manage performance and PHP Workers?

The site’s Performance section contains Edge Cache controls, PHP Worker allocation, and performance metrics. Use it to inspect the site’s resource picture and make supported adjustments.

  • Edge Cache: enable, disable, or clear it from the available controls.
  • PHP Workers: review or adjust the allocation exposed for the site.
  • Metrics: inspect traffic, requests, response times, and resource use.

Changing a cache setting or resource allocation can affect how a production site behaves. When investigating a problem, note what is currently configured and change one relevant control at a time so you can tell whether the adjustment helped. The documentation identifies these controls and metrics but does not publish universal target values; interpret them in the context of the individual site rather than treating one allocation as right for every client.

Clear Edge Cache when the dashboard offers that action and the issue appears related to stale cached output, but do not assume clearing cache fixes an application or database error. Use Logs for evidence, compare response-time and request metrics, and record the prior PHP Worker allocation before changing it. Resource changes should be evaluated against this particular site’s traffic and resource use, not against a generic number.

Where can I find logs and database tools?

Use Logs to inspect error and access logs, and Database to view database identifiers and launch phpMyAdmin. These areas are useful for diagnosis, but database and server access are more advanced than the visual site controls.

Logs

Open Logs in Manage Site to review error logs when investigating failures and access logs when examining site activity. Use the log entries to narrow down what happened and when; the dashboard provides the logs, not an automatic diagnosis of their cause.

Database

The Database section shows the database name and prefix, provides a launch point for phpMyAdmin, and offers a MySQL-password resync. Confirm that you are working on the correct site before using database tools: direct database changes can affect site content or operation.

Use the database name and prefix as identification details when coordinating a troubleshooting task. A MySQL-password resync is different from changing a WordPress user password, and phpMyAdmin is not a substitute for the WordPress editor. If the issue can be handled in WordPress or through a dashboard control, prefer that route; use direct database access only when the task requires it.

How do I use SSH or SFTP safely?

Open the site’s SSH/SFTP area to view server information, manage SSH/SFTP users, get connection commands, and control user permissions. These tools are intended for file-level work that is not handled by the portal’s visual controls.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Websites → Manage Site for the correct client site.
  2. Choose SSH/SFTP and review the displayed server information and connection commands.
  3. Create or manage the necessary user and grant only the permissions needed for the task.
  4. Use the supplied connection details with your SSH or SFTP client, then remove or revise access when it is no longer needed.

Do not treat SSH/SFTP access as interchangeable with WordPress user access: SSH/SFTP concerns server-file access, while the Users section concerns WordPress accounts and roles.

A practical access review is to create the user for the specific file task, apply the narrowest available permissions, and revisit the account after the work is complete. Keep server-file credentials separate from WordPress credentials, and confirm the server information and connection command belong to the selected client site.

How do I open WordPress Admin for a site?

For a direct sign-in route, open the site’s Users tab and use the Login action. The tab lists WordPress users and their roles; the Websites workflow also provides a way to launch WordPress Admin.

  1. From the portal, select Websites and locate the site.
  2. Use the available WordPress Admin launch action, or choose Manage Site and open Users.
  3. In Users, select Login for the appropriate WordPress account.

If you cannot perform an action in WordPress after signing in, distinguish a WordPress-user permission issue from a Bluehost account-role issue; they control different access layers.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the Users list to confirm the account and role before launching. A Bluehost portal role determines which hosting and account controls you can use, while a WordPress role determines what that logged-in user can do inside WordPress. Changing one does not automatically change the other.

How does staging help protect a production site?

Use staging to test changes on a copy before promoting an approved version to production. It is the safer workflow for trying updates, plugins, design changes, or features that could affect the live site.

  1. Open Manage Site for the client website and go to Staging.
  2. Create a staging copy.
  3. Make and test the intended changes on staging, including a preview of the result.
  4. When the copy is approved, use the promotion action to move it to production.

Staging separates experimentation from live-site work, but promotion is still a production change. Review the staged result and ensure you have the intended site selected before promoting.

Use staging for plugin, design, feature, WordPress-version, or PHP-version testing when the workflow is available. Compare the preview with the live site, check the expected pages and functionality, and remember that promotion is not merely a preview action—it changes production. A backup remains a separate recovery option.

What can I change in Settings—and what should I treat as irreversible?

The site’s Settings section covers storage allocation, WordPress and PHP versions, Static 404 Handling, configuration review, and permanent deletion. Review configuration changes carefully, and treat deletion as a separate, high-risk lifecycle action.

  • Storage allocation: review the site’s allocation before changing it.
  • WordPress and PHP versions: inspect the versions shown for the site and use the available version controls.
  • Static 404 Handling: review the setting when managing how the site handles 404 responses.
  • Configuration review: inspect the site configuration in the settings area.
  • Permanent deletion: verify the selected site and the consequences before proceeding; deletion is described as permanent.

Use staging for testing changes where appropriate, and use backup tools for recovery when a restore point is available. Neither should be treated as a reason to skip checking the site identity before a consequential action.

Deletion deserves a separate confirmation step: verify the client name, domain, and site details, review available backup information, and make sure you are not viewing a similarly named installation. Unlike a restore or staging promotion, permanent deletion is not presented as a reversible dashboard action.

How do I create a new Agency Hosting WordPress site?

Start in Websites, configure the new site, connect a domain, and complete WordPress installation. This is a separate path from opening an existing client’s Manage Site workspace.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Sign in to the Bluehost Portal and open Websites.
  2. Choose the workflow to add a site and configure the new site.
  3. Connect a domain using the offered domain workflow.
  4. Complete the WordPress installation.

For an existing site that needs a different setup, the Websites area also exposes workflows to add a hosting plan, clone or transfer WordPress sites, connect domains, and launch WordPress Admin.

Use the new-site workflow when the site does not yet exist in the portfolio. Use clone or transfer workflows when you are bringing an existing WordPress installation into the agency environment, and then open Manage Site to verify domains, versions, backups, and resources.

What should I check when a dashboard control is missing?

First confirm that you opened the intended site and the correct section; then check your account role. The portal includes a Users & Roles area, and what a user can manage depends on that role.

  • Confirm the client website selected in Websites is the one you mean to change.
  • Check whether the task belongs in the portal’s main navigation or the site’s Manage Site workspace.
  • Ask an account administrator to verify that your role includes the necessary permission.
  • If the task involves an available backup, domain connection, or server access, inspect that feature’s own site-level section rather than relying only on Overview.

This sequence helps distinguish a navigation mistake from a role restriction or a control that belongs to another area. Bluehost lists Chat Support as available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; phone support is listed as available 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to midnight EST.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A quick troubleshooting sequence

  1. Return to Websites and verify the selected site name.
  2. Open Manage Site rather than looking only at the account Dashboard.
  3. Check the specific tab associated with the task: Domains, Backups, Performance, Logs, Database, SSH/SFTP, Users, Staging, or Settings.
  4. Review your portal role in Users & Roles.
  5. For production-impacting work, check staging and backup availability before proceeding.
  6. Contact support if the expected section or action remains unavailable.

What is the safest routine for agency site maintenance?

Begin with the site identity and Overview snapshot, then work from least risky to most advanced. Confirm the domain and primary-domain status before domain changes. Check backup protection and recent activity before production edits. Use staging for updates and design work, and consult Performance metrics before changing Edge Cache or PHP Workers. Reserve phpMyAdmin and SSH/SFTP for tasks that need direct database or file access, and review permissions afterward.

Keep account-level and site-level work distinct. Billing, Marketplace, Services, Email, Security, Domains, and Users & Roles are visible in the portal navigation, while the selected site’s operational controls live under Manage Site. This separation reduces the chance of editing the wrong client or looking for a site control in an account page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Bluehost Agency Hosting support sites that are not built with WordPress?

The dashboard guidance describes workflows for creating, cloning, transferring, and managing WordPress sites. It does not establish whether non-WordPress sites are supported, so check the current Agency Hosting product details or ask Bluehost before planning a non-WordPress deployment.

How long are Bluehost Agency Hosting backups retained?

The dashboard documentation explains how to check recent-backup status, review activity, and restore from an available point, but it does not give a retention duration. The restore points shown for the individual site are the practical source for what is currently available.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use the Bluehost dashboard to manage a client’s hosting account without full account access?

Account access is role-dependent: the portal has a Users & Roles area, and permitted actions vary by role. An account administrator can confirm or adjust access if a specific site or account control is unavailable.

When can I contact Bluehost support by phone?

Bluehost lists phone support as available every day from 7 a.m. to midnight EST. Chat support is listed as available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Where do I check whether a domain is actually connected to a site?

Open Websites, choose Manage Site for the client site, and select Domains. That site-level view shows the connected domain, document root, DNS connection status, SSL status, temporary URL, and primary-domain designation.

Can I test a plugin or PHP change without affecting the live site?

Use the site’s Staging section to create a copy, test the plugin or version change, preview the result, and promote the approved copy only when you are ready to change production.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is the difference between a Bluehost account role and a WordPress role?

A Bluehost portal role controls access to account and hosting functions. A WordPress role controls what the logged-in WordPress user can do inside the site. The Users tab lists WordPress users and roles, while Users & Roles is an account-level portal area.

Where can I see PHP Worker allocation and site resource use?

Open Manage Site and choose Performance. The section exposes PHP Worker allocation and metrics such as traffic, requests, response times, and resource use; Overview may also show the current allocation and storage.

Is deleting a site reversible from the dashboard?

The Settings section describes permanent deletion as a lifecycle action. Verify the selected site and review backup availability before proceeding; do not assume deletion can be undone through the dashboard.

The Bottom Line

For nearly every client-site task, start at Websites → Manage Site. Use the site tabs for domains, backups, performance, logs, database, SSH/SFTP, WordPress users, staging, and settings; use the portal navigation for account-wide domains, billing, services, security, and roles. Verify the site and your permissions before consequential changes, test on staging when possible, and treat deletion as permanent.
