In her October 1, 2026 review, Hindustan Times’ Riya Sharma argues that Bigg Boss Hindi Season 20 has become painfully boring despite a promising start, Salman Khan’s sharper Weekend Ka Vaar appearances and Qazi Touqeer’s entertainment value. That is one critic’s mid-season verdict—not proof that most viewers agree—but her explanation is specific: image-conscious contestants, visible show intervention, chores-heavy episodes and tasks that do little to expose character have weakened the drama.
What is the criticism of Bigg Boss Hindi Season 20?
Sharma’s central complaint is not simply that the house lacks arguments. She argues that the show’s own interventions can make contestants more conscious of how they appear, while routine interactions and tasks fail to create enough fresh, consequential conflict. In her view, the result is a season that began with promise but has lost momentum.

There was some contemporary critical agreement on the early episodes: Aaj Tak’s Hansa Koranga called the first episode dull and burdensome, while Koimoi’s Trisha Gaur found the September 7 premiere disappointing and described its early bed-allocation dispute as seeming manufactured. Why Salman Khan’s Weekend Ka Vaar is the bright spot
Sharma says the first two Weekend Ka Vaar episodes were the clearest draw so far. She praises Khan for calling contestants out, taking clear positions and using calm, sarcastic digs. Her examples include the “Wanted” segment, his imitation of Kanika Mann and his response to Qazi’s alleged act of being unwell. These are the reviewer’s readings of those appearances, rather than independently verified episode analysis.

For Sharma, those segments work because Khan supplies a defined point of view and energy that ordinary episodes have not consistently matched. But a strong weekend appearance is not, by itself, a repeatable hook for the rest of the week.
What Qazi, Mahhi Vij and Amrapali Dubey add—and what they don’t
Sharma credits Qazi with bringing entertainment and taking stands, but she questions whether the audience sees beyond his performer persona. She also worries that the show’s repeated praise of him could influence how he behaves in the house; that is her interpretation, not an established production fact.
She singles out Mahhi Vij for creating conflict without needing manufactured drama, and Amrapali Dubey for stirring house dynamics by carrying information. Those moments offer sparks, but the review’s broader argument is that they have not yet turned into sustained, unpredictable gameplay.

Sharma points to instances in which, in her view, the show tells housemates how their choices may look or what they could have done to generate drama. For example, she says Yung DSA was told to reconsider his group because he could appear negative. She argues that this kind of cue can make contestants protect their image and play to the cameras rather than act spontaneously.
She also criticizes the show for giving Gullu another captaincy opportunity and then criticizing his captaincy. Her concern is not that Bigg Boss should never challenge housemates; it is that guidance about how to perform or make drama can blur the line between the contestants’ own decisions and the show’s prompting.
Why the tasks and daily episodes feel repetitive
Sharma finds the recurring attention to kitchen duties and chores dull. Her preferred tasks would expose differences in temperament and strategy: who is loyal, selfish, competitive, quick-tempered or calculating. A task that changes relationships or creates a meaningful consequence can carry into later episodes; a routine assignment that leaves the house dynamics unchanged gives viewers less reason to return.
That distinction also helps explain the review’s contrast with Rise & Fall Season 2, which Sharma says premiered September 26. She points to its worker-and-ruler structure, where task results can move contestants between power positions and make alliances or losses matter. In her view, that creates more immediate unpredictability. This is a comparison of formats from one reviewer, not evidence that one programme has better ratings or objectively higher quality.

JioStar announced that Bigg Boss Hindi Season 20 premiered September 6, 2026, on JioHotstar at 9 p.m. and COLORS at 10:30 p.m.; the announcement does not specify a timezone. Salman Khan is the host. The company promoted a “Tathas-Two” theme, an “Extra Jeevan Daan” twist and a new house. Its season announcement called the premiere the biggest opening day ever for a reality show on JioHotstar, but it supplied no season-specific audience figure in that claim. That company-reported opening-day description does not establish how viewers rate the episodes.
JioStar has also reported franchise-wide figures for 2025: 500 million-plus reach across languages and 438 billion viewing minutes across languages. Those numbers concern the broader Bigg Boss franchise, not Hindi Season 20. The company said the 2026 franchise included six editions—in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Bangla—and reported more than 95 sponsors across the six editions. It also said six in every ten viewers watch the franchise’s 24×7 live feed, without specifying a Season 20 denominator or independent measurement. None of these franchise-level figures measures whether this particular season’s daily episodes feel engaging.

Is Bigg Boss 20 boring to viewers?
Sharma says that after three weeks she sees no obvious winner and that Weekend Ka Vaar is the only clear hook. She suggests bringing in a wildcard with an existing connection or unresolved conflict in the house to add energy. Both are her impressions and prescriptions at that point in the season, not settled outcomes.

Some fans have used similarly blunt language in online discussion, including a Reddit thread titled “The show has become boring now?” Such posts are anecdotal: they show that the complaint exists, not how common it is. The available reviews and company announcements do not establish a representative viewer verdict or an independent Season 20 ratings dataset.
