If you want a cozy open-world game on Steam with gentle exploration, vivid natural settings, and an imaginative sense of place, start with Eastshade or Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles. Both are explicitly described on Steam as open-world adventures. Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition is a strong, more emotional cozy alternative, but its Steam listing does not establish it as open-world. Here, “for fans of Studio Ghibli” describes the mood some players may be looking for—not an official connection, endorsement, or confirmed developer influence.
How these games fit the cozy, Ghibli-inspired brief
For this list, the useful match is a game that makes room for wandering, nature, warmth, and discovery rather than treating combat as the main attraction. Steam calls Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles “a relaxing open-world adventure game.” It takes place on Gemea, an island the listing says has eight distinct environments, ranging from tropical beaches to snowy summits. Alongside exploration, you can barter with locals, craft, befriend wildlife, and build a working farm.

Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition — best for caring, crafting, and emotional storytelling
Steam describes Spiritfarer as “a cozy management game about dying.” You build a boat, explore, care for spirit passengers, and take on activities such as farming, mining, fishing, cooking, and crafting. The listing highlights hand-drawn art and emotional stories, making it a fit for players drawn to imaginative settings and relationships.
