The best Cloudflare alternative depends on which part of the stack you need to replace. Amazon CloudFront is the natural starting point for an AWS workload, Azure Front Door for an Azure deployment, and Google Cloud CDN paired with Cloud Armor for Google Cloud. Fastly suits teams that want a programmable edge, Akamai and Imperva target enterprise delivery and application security, Bunny emphasizes straightforward CDN pricing, and Sucuri focuses on managed WordPress protection. No option reproduces every Cloudflare service identically, so start by inventorying your DNS, CDN, TLS, WAF, DDoS, bot, rate-limit, logging, edge-code, load-balancing, access, and tunnel requirements. Then select a provider—or a combination—that covers those functions and fits your traffic geography, support expectations, cloud architecture, and operating capacity.
What should you replace when you move away from Cloudflare?
Cloudflare is a collection of services rather than a single feature. A nameserver change replaces only authoritative DNS; it does not automatically recreate reverse-proxy behavior, certificates, cache rules, origin protection, security policies, or edge applications.
Document every capability currently enabled before evaluating vendors:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Authoritative DNS zones, records, DNSSEC, health checks, and failover.
- Reverse-proxy CDN behavior, cache keys, bypass rules, purge workflows, and stale serving.
- TLS certificates, minimum protocol settings, and encryption from the edge to the origin.
- DDoS protection, web application firewall (WAF) rules, bot controls, rate limits, and managed signatures.
- Load balancing, origin pools, health probes, and geographic routing.
- Client-IP headers, access logs, security events, analytics exports, and retention.
- Edge functions, Workers, tunnels, Zero Trust access policies, and service-to-service authentication.
- Origin IP restrictions, firewall allowlists, deployment automation, and rollback procedures.
Mark each item as essential, useful, or dispensable. This prevents a cheaper CDN from appearing equivalent while quietly leaving a WAF, DNS failover, or edge function without a replacement.

How do I choose the right Cloudflare alternative?
Choose by workload and operating model first, then compare price. A provider with excellent delivery may require a separate DNS service; a security platform may not provide the edge compute or traffic engineering your application uses.
Use your cloud alignment as the first filter
An AWS-hosted application often benefits from CloudFront because identity, logging, origins, and automation can remain inside AWS. Azure Front Door is a logical candidate when routing and failover are already managed in Microsoft Azure. Google Cloud CDN is commonly evaluated together with Cloud Armor so delivery and application protection are modeled as one design. Integration reduces plumbing, but it does not prove one-to-one feature parity; verify each required control.
Match the operating model to your team
- Developer-led edge: Fastly is designed for programmable delivery and rapid edge changes, but security services, DNS, support level, and usage limits must be checked separately.
- Enterprise managed service: Akamai is oriented toward large-scale delivery, security, traffic engineering, and managed support, normally through workload-specific sales scoping.
- Security-first application protection: Imperva emphasizes WAF, WAAP, and API protection. Confirm whether CDN and authoritative DNS are included or need other providers.
- Focused WordPress protection: Sucuri is a managed website-security choice for WordPress rather than a general replacement for edge compute, broad DNS control, or complex traffic engineering.
- Usage-priced CDN: Bunny can be attractive when regional bandwidth pricing and a simple delivery service are the priority; compare its security coverage and support with your requirements.
Consider geography, support, and complexity
List the countries where visitors, origins, and operators are located. Check whether the vendor has suitable points of presence, regional compliance options, support hours, escalation paths, and controls for traffic spikes. A low headline rate can be offset by separate WAF charges, support contracts, request fees, log storage, or engineering time.
Which Cloudflare alternative is best for an AWS application?
Amazon CloudFront is the most natural starting point for an AWS-centric site or API, especially when your origins, identity policies, observability, and deployment pipelines already use AWS. It can be evaluated alongside AWS services for DNS, WAF, DDoS controls, certificates, logging, and edge compute.
Do not assume that an AWS-native design automatically reproduces your existing setup. Confirm which CloudFront plan and associated AWS services provide:
- Authoritative DNS and DNS failover for every zone.
- WAF managed rules, custom expressions, bot controls, and rate limiting.
- DDoS mitigation appropriate for both the edge and the origin.
- CloudFront Functions or Lambda@Edge behavior for redirects, headers, authentication, or personalization.
- Origin access controls, private connectivity, client-IP preservation, and log delivery.
- Load balancing and health-check behavior across regions.
An AWS design can spread responsibility across several consoles and bills. Model those components together and test operational ownership before migrating.

Is Fastly a better choice for a programmable edge?
Fastly is a strong shortlist candidate for teams that treat the edge as part of the application: developers can use programmable logic, granular cache controls, and rapid configuration changes. It is not automatically a complete Cloudflare replacement, so verify DNS, WAF, bot management, DDoS scope, logging, and support for your package.
The pricing page surfaced for this comparison lists a Basic package at $1,500 per month and a Starter package at $6,000 per month. Those are page-listed package prices as of October 25, 2026, not a guarantee of current scope or total spend. Request a workload-specific estimate that includes requests, bandwidth, security features, log volume, environments, and support response times.
Fastly is most compelling when your team can own edge configuration, testing, and incident response. If you need a largely managed security service or have limited edge expertise, include the cost of that operational capability in the comparison.
When should an enterprise choose Akamai?
Akamai belongs on an enterprise shortlist when global delivery, application security, traffic engineering, and managed support are more important than a simple self-service console. Public comparisons generally describe sales-led procurement, so ask for a scope based on your traffic, protected applications, regions, service-level objectives, and integration requirements.
Require the proposal to identify each included product and its boundaries: CDN, authoritative DNS, WAF, bot mitigation, DDoS response, API security, load balancing, edge logic, observability, and support. Clarify onboarding responsibilities, change-management processes, emergency mitigation authority, contract minimums, and how overage or burst traffic is billed.
Is Imperva suitable when security matters more than CDN breadth?
Imperva is oriented toward WAF, WAAP, API protection, and security operations. It can fit organizations whose primary problem is reducing application and API risk, especially when a dedicated security team needs policy controls and managed expertise.

Establish whether your design still needs another provider for authoritative DNS, global CDN delivery, edge functions, image optimization, or advanced traffic steering. Test authenticated APIs, WebSockets, file uploads, and unusual methods rather than validating only a cached HTML page. Confirm how client IPs, logs, rule exceptions, and incident escalation work in production.
What does Azure Front Door replace in an Azure environment?
Azure Front Door provides Azure-centric HTTP delivery, routing, and failover, making it a sensible candidate for applications already built around Azure regions, identities, monitoring, and deployment tooling. Its exact WAF, bot, DDoS, DNS, and billing arrangement depends on the deployment and selected tier.
Map each current rule to Front Door syntax and test precedence. Verify certificate automation, custom domains, origin health probes, private origins, cache behavior, purge latency, WebSocket or streaming support, and diagnostic-log retention. Treat DNS as a separate design question unless your selected Azure configuration explicitly covers the required authoritative functions.
How should I evaluate Google Cloud CDN with Cloud Armor?
Google Cloud CDN is generally evaluated together with Cloud Armor: the CDN handles delivery while Cloud Armor supplies application-security controls. This pairing is a natural fit for Google Cloud origins, IAM, logging, and automation, but DNS and control-plane requirements still need separate verification.
Model the two services as one cost and policy system. Check cache-mode choices, signed URLs or cookies, origin authentication, Armor rule capacity, adaptive protections, rate limiting, logging, and regional behavior. Confirm how policies are promoted between environments and how quickly an emergency block or purge becomes effective.
Is Bunny a good low-complexity CDN alternative?
Bunny is primarily a CDN option for readers who value published, region-based bandwidth rates and a straightforward delivery service. Its official pricing page lists a $1 monthly minimum and 119 points of presence for the Standard network as surfaced on October 25, 2026.

Those figures describe the vendor’s current pricing page at that date; calculate your own bill from the regions that serve your traffic, storage or request charges, and any add-on services. The same page cites comparative performance and pricing information from third-party data dated March 2025. Those claims are not a current independent benchmark and should not be treated as proof that Bunny is the fastest provider.

Bunny can be a practical delivery layer while another service handles authoritative DNS or advanced application security.
When is Sucuri a better fit than a full edge platform?
Sucuri is aimed at managed WordPress website security. It can make sense when the priority is malware monitoring and cleanup, WordPress-focused protection, and a managed support workflow rather than programmable edge logic or sophisticated multi-region traffic engineering.
Inventory requirements that fall outside WordPress security: multiple application runtimes, API gateways, custom edge code, complex DNS failover, private origins, non-HTTP protocols, and large-scale traffic steering. If any are essential, pair a focused security service with suitable DNS and CDN components or choose a broader platform.
How do the published prices and buying models compare?
Price comparisons are meaningful only after service coverage is normalized. The following figures are the page-listed amounts surfaced on October 25, 2026; they are volatile and may omit usage, add-ons, taxes, support, or companion services.

How do I migrate safely from Cloudflare?
Migrate in stages. Keep the existing configuration available until representative traffic and security tests pass on the replacement.
- Inventory the live configuration. Export every DNS record and note proxy status, TTLs, DNSSEC, certificates, minimum TLS versions, origin encryption, cache rules, purge paths, WAF exceptions, rate limits, bot policies, DDoS settings, load-balancer pools, health checks, edge functions, tunnels, access policies, logs, and analytics.
- Define acceptance criteria. Specify required status codes, latency targets, cache behavior, security detections, client-IP headers, log fields, certificate renewal, failover time, and rollback triggers for each critical route.
- Map capabilities to services. Create a matrix showing the replacement feature, configuration owner, migration method, and any function that will move to a separate DNS, WAF, identity, logging, or edge provider. Mark unsupported features instead of assuming equivalence.
- Prepare the origin. Restrict origin firewalls to the new provider’s egress ranges where possible, preserve authenticated origin access, rotate exposed credentials, and ensure the application receives the correct client-IP header. Keep a controlled path for rollback traffic.
- Recreate TLS and caching. Issue certificates for every hostname, enforce the intended edge-to-origin encryption, reproduce cache keys and bypasses, and test purge behavior. Validate cookies, authorization headers, compression, redirects, range requests, uploads, and streaming.
- Rebuild security policies. Port WAF rules, exceptions, rate limits, bot challenges, API protections, and DDoS contacts. Start in log or monitor mode where supported, then enforce after reviewing false positives.
- Test before DNS changes. Use a staging hostname, provider test endpoint, or controlled hosts-file override. Exercise anonymous and authenticated pages, APIs, admin paths, error pages, large files, WebSockets if used, and origin-failure scenarios from several regions.
- Canary the cutover. Lower DNS TTL ahead of the change, move a low-risk hostname or small traffic slice first, and watch origin load, cache-hit ratio, security events, response headers, client-IP values, and logs.
- Switch and observe. Change the authoritative records or delegation only after the canary meets acceptance criteria. Monitor for at least one normal traffic cycle and one expected peak; keep the old configuration intact during the observation window.
- Rollback deliberately. Define the exact record changes, TTL assumptions, staff owner, and communication path needed to return traffic. Roll back if certificates fail, origin load surges, security rules block legitimate users, or logs and client-IP data are unusable.
Changing nameservers first is the most common migration mistake because it can leave TLS, cache semantics, WAF exceptions, origin protection, and edge code unfinished.
Which option should I shortlist for common scenarios?
| Scenario | Initial shortlist | Questions to answer before selecting |
|---|---|---|
| AWS-native application | Amazon CloudFront | Which AWS services cover DNS, WAF, DDoS, edge code, logs, and private-origin access, and how will operators manage them? |
| Azure-native application | Azure Front Door | What tier and WAF arrangement provide the required routing, bot, DDoS, DNS, and billing behavior? |
| Google Cloud application | Google Cloud CDN plus Cloud Armor | How will CDN, Armor, DNS, IAM, logging, and policy deployment be coordinated? |
| Developer-controlled programmable edge | Fastly | Do package limits, security coverage, support, and edge-runtime skills fit the team? |
| Enterprise global delivery and managed support | Akamai | What exact products, service levels, regions, migration work, and contract terms are in the quote? |
| Security-led WAF and API program | Imperva | Which provider supplies CDN, DNS, traffic engineering, and edge logic if Imperva does not? |
| Published regional CDN pricing | Bunny | Does its security, DNS, support, and regional coverage meet requirements beyond bandwidth delivery? |
| Managed WordPress security | Sucuri | Are edge compute, multi-application routing, and broad DNS controls actually needed? |
These are starting directions, not a universal performance ranking. Available comparison material does not establish a verified, general fastest provider, and a real recommendation requires your stack, traffic profile, regions, security controls, budget, support needs, and migration constraints.

- Functional paths: home pages, cacheable assets, personalized pages, APIs, uploads, downloads, redirects, error responses, and any WebSocket or streaming route.
- Security cases: known malicious payloads, API authentication failures, rate-limit thresholds, bot-like bursts, allowlisted partners, and administrator access.
- Resilience: unhealthy origins, regional failure, DNS failure, certificate renewal, purge requests, and sudden traffic increases.
- Observability: complete request logs, accurate client IPs, correlation IDs, security events, alert delivery, retention, and export to your existing system.
- Operations: configuration review, approvals, API and infrastructure-as-code support, emergency changes, support response, and rollback time.
- Economics: cache-hit ratio, bandwidth by region, request counts, attack traffic, log volume, support fees, and labor required to operate the design.
Record results by route and region. A provider that passes a static-page test may still fail on authenticated APIs, purge timing, origin isolation, or incident workflow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I keep my existing DNS provider while changing the CDN?
Yes. Authoritative DNS and the reverse-proxy CDN can be operated by different vendors if records, proxy targets, health checks, DNSSEC, and failover behavior are coordinated. Confirm who owns certificate validation and how quickly DNS changes propagate during an incident.
Do I need a separate WAF when I choose a CDN alternative?
Not always, but many CDN products offer only basic controls or charge separately for advanced WAF, bot, API, and rate-limit features. Compare the exact rule languages, managed signatures, logging, tuning workflow, and DDoS response rather than relying on the product name.
How long should I keep the old Cloudflare configuration after cutover?
Keep it available through at least a normal peak period and your agreed rollback window, while preventing stale certificates, unrestricted origin access, or conflicting automation. The right duration depends on DNS TTLs, traffic volatility, and how quickly your team can reverse the delegation.
