For mainstream shared Windows ASP.NET hosting, DiscountASP.NET is the best overall specialist, SmarterASP.NET is the best budget option, and Winhost offers the best balance for many small-business applications. The right choice depends first on what “ASP.NET” means in your project. Classic ASP.NET Web Forms and MVC 5 require Windows and IIS, while modern ASP.NET Core can run on Windows or Linux.
This comparison was checked on August 10, 2026. Prices, promotions, runtime support, quotas, and platform versions can change, so confirm the final specification and renewal price before paying. If your modern .NET application needs continuous deployment, scaling, staging slots, or managed cloud infrastructure, compare these shared hosts with Azure App Service rather than treating them as equivalent products.
The three best ASP.NET hosts at a glance
| Rank | Provider | Best for | Advertised price | SQL Server | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | DiscountASP.NET | Legacy and modern ASP.NET applications that need specialist Windows/IIS features | $10/month; annual plan advertises three months free during the first year | Paid add-on: $10/month for 1 GB database space and 1 GB transaction log | Only 1 GB web storage and 80 GB monthly transfer on the base plan; SQL increases the practical cost to about $20/month |
| 2 | SmarterASP.NET | Low-cost ASP.NET hosting with SQL Server included | $2.95, $4.95, or $7.95 monthly-equivalent advertised pricing, depending on plan | Included; quota ranges from 1 GB/one database to 10 GB/20 databases | Basic has only 256 MB application-pool memory, one site, one database, and a 200-connection limit |
| 3 | Winhost | Conventional shared Windows hosting for a small business | $9.95/month when paid annually, or $11.95/month on the three-month term | Included on the Max plan; 2 GB SQL storage and unlimited MS SQL databases are advertised | 300 MB site-memory allocation, no scheduled tasks on Max, and the platform page lists Windows Server 2019/2016 rather than 2022 |
These are editorial rankings for shared Windows hosting, not a universal ranking of every service that can run ASP.NET. A Windows VPS, Linux container platform, or Azure App Service may be a better choice when you need administrator access, high availability, background workers, or predictable scaling.

First, identify which kind of ASP.NET application you have
The most common mistake in ASP.NET hosting comparisons is treating all .NET applications as if they have the same server requirements.
Classic ASP.NET and .NET Framework require Windows hosting
Choose Windows hosting with IIS if your application is:
- ASP.NET Web Forms
- ASP.NET MVC 1 through 5
- Targeting .NET Framework rather than modern .NET
- Dependent on COM, the Windows registry, Windows Authentication, Windows-only libraries, or IIS-specific modules
- An older CMS or business system built for the full .NET Framework
Microsoft’s current .NET Framework release is .NET Framework 4.8.1, although hosting companies commonly describe compatibility as “ASP.NET 4.8.x.” See the .NET Framework support policy.
A Linux-only shared hosting account is not a suitable destination for a Web Forms or MVC 5 application. For example, Hostinger states that its normal servers are Linux-based and that classic ASP.NET is not directly supported; its ASP.NET option requires deploying modern ASP.NET Core on a Linux VPS. That makes Hostinger a possible modern .NET option, not a recommendation for classic ASP.NET. See Hostinger’s ASP.NET support explanation.
Modern ASP.NET Core and .NET can run on Windows or Linux
ASP.NET Core applications targeting modern .NET can run on Windows, Linux, containers, Azure App Service, AWS Elastic Beanstalk, and other platforms. Windows is still the safer or necessary choice when the application uses Windows-specific dependencies, but the framework itself is cross-platform.
As checked on August 10, 2026, .NET 10 is the current LTS release and is supported through November 14, 2028. .NET 9 and .NET 8 are in maintenance and reach end of support on November 10, 2026. Verify the current dates in Microsoft’s .NET support policy because the lifecycle changes over time.
Before buying hosting, open the project in Visual Studio or inspect its project file. A target such as net48 indicates .NET Framework; targets such as net8.0, net9.0, or net10.0 indicate modern .NET. Also check whether the application uses Windows-only APIs even if its target framework is ASP.NET Core.

Choose DiscountASP.NET when compatibility and Windows/IIS capability matter more than the lowest headline price. It is the strongest of these three for a mixed estate containing legacy ASP.NET, newer .NET applications, and IIS-specific requirements.
Published plan and compatibility
- Base price: $10/month.
- Annual offer: three months free during the first year.
- Web allowance: 1,000 MB disk space and 80 GB monthly data transfer.
- Platform: Windows Server 2019/2016 and IIS 10.x are listed.
- Frameworks: .NET 10.x, 9.x, 8.x, 7.x, 6.x, 5.x, ASP.NET Core 3.x/2.x, and ASP.NET 4.8.x are listed.
- Application isolation: each site uses its own isolated application pool.
- Trust level: Full Trust is allowed.
- Other features: IIS management, WebSockets, SignalR-related workloads, scheduled-task tools, SQL tools, Web Deploy publishing support, and remote SQL management are documented.
- Locations and migration: United States and European data centers are available, and free website migration is advertised.
- Guarantee: a 30-day money-back guarantee is advertised.
See the provider’s ASP.NET hosting plan page for the current specification.
The SQL Server add-on changes the price
Microsoft SQL Server is not included in the base plan. The published SQL Server 2022, 2019, or 2017 add-on costs $10/month and includes 1 GB of database space plus 1 GB of transaction-log space.
That makes a typical base account with SQL Server approximately $20/month before backup or other add-ons. This is not necessarily poor value—the specialist features may justify it—but comparing DiscountASP.NET’s $10 web price with a competitor’s price that already includes SQL Server produces a misleading result.
DiscountASP.NET also advertises a limited-time $5/month promotion. The promotion does not apply to add-ons and should not be treated as the normal price. Check the promotion terms and the checkout total.
Why it ranks first
DiscountASP.NET has the broadest documented combination of classic ASP.NET, modern .NET, Full Trust, isolated application pools, IIS controls, WebSockets, and developer-oriented deployment tools among the three providers reviewed. That makes it a particularly sensible migration target for an older application that cannot be redesigned for Linux or a generic cloud platform.

Its control panel documents a Web Deploy publish-settings generator, application-pool controls, IIS management, scheduled-task tools, SQL backup and restore tools, and remote SQL client access. Those details are more useful to a Visual Studio developer than a generic “ASP.NET supported” badge.
Important drawbacks
- The base plan’s 1 GB storage allowance is modest.
- SQL Server is a separate recurring charge.
- The main plan page does not present an equivalent application-pool memory number, so ask support for the resource limits that apply to your selected plan.
- Daily system backups are described as emergency recovery, not as a complete customer-controlled backup product.
For independently controlled, off-site backups, DiscountASP.NET lists a separate Website Cloud Backup service starting at $1.75/month for 5 GB. Read its backup FAQ and cloud-backup details before assuming that “backups included” means you can download and restore your own files and database.

Best use case
Pick DiscountASP.NET for a Web Forms or MVC 5 migration, an application that needs Full Trust or IIS-specific behavior, a mixed old-and-new .NET account, or a project using WebSockets, SignalR, or legacy components. Avoid choosing it solely because of the $10 web price if the application requires SQL Server and customer-controlled backups; calculate the complete monthly cost first.
2. SmarterASP.NET: best budget ASP.NET host
Choose SmarterASP.NET when keeping the bill low and getting SQL Server included are the main priorities. Its advertised entry price is substantially lower than the other two providers, and its long trial makes it practical to test a small application before committing.
Plans and published limits
| Plan | Advertised monthly-equivalent price | Sites | SQL allowance | Application-pool memory |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $2.95/month | 1 | 1 GB and 1 database | 256 MB |
| Advance | $4.95/month | 6 | 3 GB and 6 databases | 512 MB |
| Premium | $7.95/month | Unlimited | 10 GB and 20 databases | 3 GB |
These are the provider’s advertised monthly-equivalent prices. Its FAQ says shared hosting payments are accepted quarterly or annually, so do not assume that every plan can be paid month by month. Confirm the billing cadence and renewal total at checkout.
Published platform features
- Windows Server 2022.
- .NET 10.x and ASP.NET Core 10.x.
- ASP.NET 4.8 and earlier versions.
- MVC 6 through MVC 1.
- SQL Server 2022, 2019, 2017, and older versions.
- Free Let’s Encrypt SSL.
- FTP, FTP over SSL, Web Deploy, Visual Studio publishing, and GitHub deployment.
- Blazor, WebSockets, Full Trust, isolated application pools, and a web-based ASP.NET control panel.
- Scheduled tasks on the higher plan.
- United States and European data centers.
- A 60-day free trial without payment information, plus a separate 60-day money-back guarantee after payment.

The Basic plan has only 256 MB of application-pool memory. That may be adequate for a small website, but it can be restrictive for an ASP.NET Core application with a large startup footprint, Entity Framework workload, CMS, image processing, or report generation. Basic and Advance also list a 200-concurrent-connection limit; Premium lists unlimited concurrent connections.
“Unlimited space” and “unlimited bandwidth,” where advertised, do not mean unlimited CPU, RAM, database performance, concurrent users, or process execution. Memory, connections, process recycling, CPU throttling, and background-task policies are often more important than disk space for an ASP.NET application.
A specification discrepancy to resolve
SmarterASP.NET’s current plan cards advertise SQL Server 2025, while the detailed plan table and explanatory text refer to SQL Server 2022 as the included service. Because the pages are inconsistent, ask support to confirm the exact SQL Server version, database quota, transaction-log quota, and compatibility level for the plan you intend to buy.
Trial accounts also do not include SMTP services, although paid accounts do. That matters if your contact form, password-reset workflow, or transactional notifications need to send email. Test email on the paid environment or use a dedicated transactional email provider rather than assuming the trial reproduces every production capability.
Recommended Free Tools
The provider advertises 99.9% uptime. That is a provider claim, not an independently measured result in this comparison.
Best use case
SmarterASP.NET is the best fit for a low- or medium-traffic Web Forms, MVC, or ASP.NET Core application that needs Windows/IIS and SQL Server at the lowest practical price. Choose Advance or Premium if the application’s memory use, database size, number of sites, or connection count makes Basic unrealistic.
3. Winhost: best shared-hosting balance for a business site
Choose Winhost when you want a conventional shared Windows package with included SQL Server, Web Deploy, and SQL Management Studio access. Its Max plan is a reasonable middle ground between SmarterASP.NET’s aggressive budget pricing and DiscountASP.NET’s specialist positioning.

SQL Server is included instead of being a mandatory add-on, and the Max plan provides more SQL storage than SmarterASP.NET Basic. Web Deploy and SQL Management Studio access are useful for teams that publish from Visual Studio, manage schema changes, or need a familiar Microsoft database workflow.
The package also covers both legacy ASP.NET and modern .NET, so it can support a conventional business website without requiring the team to learn a cloud platform immediately.
Important limitations
- The platform page lists Windows Server 2019/2016 rather than Windows Server 2022. That does not automatically prevent a .NET 10 application from running, but a new application should have its runtime and hosting configuration confirmed in writing.
- The 300 MB site-memory allocation is a real shared-host constraint even though storage and bandwidth are advertised as unlimited.
- Scheduled tasks are listed as unavailable on the Max plan.
- Website and database cloud backup is an add-on rather than an obviously included customer backup feature.
- The $9.95 rate requires annual payment; the quarterly equivalent is $11.95/month.
Winhost also advertises 99.9% uptime. Treat that as a provider claim or contractual target subject to its exclusions and credit terms, not as independent proof of reliability.
Best use case
Winhost is a good choice for a small or medium business application that needs included SQL Server, common IIS tooling, and a conventional hosting control panel, but does not need large memory allocations, scheduled workers, administrator access, or server-level customization.
How the three providers compare on the details that matter
Runtime and operating system
All three finalists publish support for modern .NET and classic ASP.NET, but their platform details differ:
- DiscountASP.NET: publishes Windows Server 2019/2016 and IIS 10.x, with broad .NET and ASP.NET Core version coverage.
- SmarterASP.NET: explicitly lists Windows Server 2022, .NET 10, ASP.NET Core 10, and older ASP.NET versions.
- Winhost: lists .NET 10 and older frameworks, but its published platform page lists Windows Server 2019/2016.
Do not rely on a provider’s general “.NET 10 support” label alone. Confirm whether the exact plan offers the framework-dependent runtime your application needs, whether self-contained deployment is allowed, and whether 32-bit or 64-bit mode is required.
For ASP.NET Core on IIS, Microsoft’s IIS deployment documentation explains that the .NET Hosting Bundle installs the runtime, libraries, and ASP.NET Core Module. On shared hosting, you may not control that installation, so the provider must confirm that the required runtime and module are already available.
SQL Server and total cost
SQL Server can reverse the apparent price ranking:
| Provider | Web price | SQL position | Cost qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| DiscountASP.NET | $10/month base | $10/month add-on for 1 GB database and 1 GB log | Approximately $20/month before optional backup |
| SmarterASP.NET | From $2.95/month monthly-equivalent | Included, with quota determined by plan | Confirm billing cadence and resolve the SQL Server 2025/2022 wording discrepancy |
| Winhost | $9.95/month with annual payment | Included on Max; 2 GB SQL storage advertised | Quarterly billing is $11.95/month equivalent; backups may cost extra |
Also budget for database expansion, transaction-log storage, downloadable backups, domain registration, email services, dedicated IP requirements, monitoring, and any memory or application-pool upgrades. A cheap web plan is not necessarily the cheapest production system.
Resources and application behavior
Ask about application-pool memory, CPU allocation, recycling, request timeouts, maximum upload size, file-write permissions, worker-process limits, WebSocket idle timeouts, and concurrent connections.
SmarterASP.NET publishes 256 MB, 512 MB, and 3 GB application-pool memory by plan, plus a 200-connection limit on Basic and Advance. Winhost lists 300 MB site memory on Max. DiscountASP.NET documents isolated application pools but does not display an equivalent memory figure on the main plan page. These numbers make a difference for Entity Framework startup, large dependency graphs, CMS applications, image processing, and report generation.
Deployment options
For a Visual Studio team, look for Web Deploy or a documented Visual Studio Publish workflow. For an automated team, look for GitHub deployment, GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines, ZIP deployment, staging, rollback, and a safe way to manage secrets.
- DiscountASP.NET: Web Deploy publish-settings generation and IIS-oriented controls.
- SmarterASP.NET: FTP/FTPS, Web Deploy, Visual Studio publishing, and GitHub deployment are documented.
- Winhost: Web Deploy, remote IIS management, FTP/FTPS, and SQL Management Studio access are documented.
A deployment method is only half the workflow. Confirm how database migrations, app settings, connection strings, certificates, and rollback are handled.

Backups and restore
Distinguish between:
- Internal disaster-recovery backups controlled by the provider
- Customer-accessible backups
- Downloadable off-site copies
- Database backups and application-file backups
- Point-in-time recovery and retention
- Restore fees and restore time
- Whether you can migrate the backup to another host
Never assume that a provider’s emergency backup is a replacement for your own backup. Keep independent copies of the application files, uploads, configuration documentation, and database exports. Test restoration before you need it.
When Azure App Service is a better choice
Azure App Service belongs in this comparison as a different hosting category: managed platform as a service rather than inexpensive shared Windows hosting.
Choose Azure App Service when you need managed infrastructure, automated platform patching, GitHub Actions or Azure Pipelines, deployment slots, staged releases, autoscaling, Azure SQL, managed identity, Application Insights, private networking, or a path to larger production deployments. App Service supports .NET on Windows and Linux, custom containers, Visual Studio and CLI deployment, and multiple scaling options. Microsoft documents the platform in its App Service overview.
It should not be compared directly with a $3–$10 shared host because the billing model is different. Azure pricing depends on region, operating system, tier, instance count, and usage. The App Service charge may be only one component of the bill; databases, storage, backups, diagnostic logs, certificates, networking, and monitoring can add separate charges. The Windows App Service pricing page provides the current details.
Free and Shared tiers do not carry a financially backed SLA, and Microsoft recommends Standard or higher for production workloads. Standard and higher tiers support staging slots, while automatic traffic-based scaling is available in Premium v2–v4 tiers. Check the current automatic scaling documentation and deployment guidance.
A five-minute decision guide
- Is it Web Forms, MVC 5, or .NET Framework? Choose Windows hosting with IIS. Start with DiscountASP.NET, SmarterASP.NET, or Winhost.
- Is it ASP.NET Core with COM, registry, Windows Authentication, or other Windows dependencies? Choose Windows hosting or a Windows cloud platform.
- Is it modern ASP.NET Core without Windows-only dependencies? Linux hosting, containers, Linux App Service, Azure, and other platforms are valid. Do not pay for Windows merely because the project is called ASP.NET.
- Does it require SQL Server? Compare the complete web-plus-database price, quota, SQL version, remote-access rights, and restore process. DiscountASP.NET’s SQL add-on is the key example.
- Do you need administrator or root access? Choose a Windows VPS, Linux VPS, container platform, or cloud service—not shared hosting.
- Do you need deployment slots, autoscaling, managed identity, or an enterprise CI/CD workflow? Start with Azure App Service or a comparable PaaS.
- Does it require continuous workers, Windows Services, scheduled imports, or long-running jobs? Avoid a basic shared plan unless the provider explicitly supports the workload and its limits are adequate.
How to deploy an ASP.NET application to shared Windows hosting
Control-panel labels vary, but the normal workflow is similar.
- Confirm the target framework, SQL Server version, application-pool memory, database quota, WebSocket support, scheduled-task policy, and deployment method with the provider.
- Publish the application locally in Release mode:
dotnet publish --configuration Release
- Upload the contents of the publish directory, not the project source. Microsoft normally places the result under
bin/Release/{TARGET FRAMEWORK}/publish. - Set the site’s application root or virtual directory.
- Configure the production connection string and environment settings. Do not upload development secrets or commit production credentials to source control.
- Create, migrate, or restore the SQL database using the provider’s supported method.
- Enable HTTPS and confirm the certificate.
- Test the temporary URL before changing DNS.
- Point the domain’s DNS records to the hosting account.
- Run smoke tests for login, database reads and writes, file uploads, email, WebSockets or SignalR, and scheduled operations.
- Save independent copies of the application files and database backups.
The IIS publish output includes a generated web.config used by IIS and the ASP.NET Core Module. Do not accidentally omit it when uploading the published files. See Microsoft’s publish-to-IIS guide.
Self-managed Windows/IIS deployment
A Windows VPS or dedicated server is appropriate when shared hosting cannot provide the required access or resources. In that environment, you are responsible for patching, firewall rules, backups, monitoring, IIS configuration, and incident response.
Recommended Free Tools
- Install the correct .NET Hosting Bundle.
- Restart the IIS services:
net stop was /y
net start w3svc
- Create an IIS site with an explicit hostname and physical path.
- Give the application-pool identity read access to the application files and write access only to folders that genuinely require it.
- Publish the application with
dotnet publish --configuration Release. - Move the publish output to the IIS site’s physical path and keep the generated
web.config. - Configure the HTTPS binding and test the hostname.
- Inspect IIS and application logs if startup fails.
Microsoft warns against top-level wildcard IIS bindings such as http://*:80/ and recommends explicit hostnames. Follow the current IIS deployment documentation.
Linux is a valid alternative for modern ASP.NET Core
If an application targets modern ASP.NET Core and has no Windows-only dependencies, a Linux VPS or container platform may offer more provider choice and flexibility. This is not a solution for Web Forms or MVC 5.
A typical self-managed Linux deployment uses:
- The ASP.NET Core application running on Kestrel
- Nginx or another reverse proxy in front of Kestrel
systemdor another process manager to keep the application running- TLS termination at Nginx or the hosting platform
- Explicit update, logging, monitoring, and backup procedures
Microsoft’s ASP.NET Core hosting documentation covers Kestrel, Nginx, IIS, reverse proxies, and process management. Linux can reduce platform cost, but a VPS is self-managed unless the provider explicitly sells managed administration.
Pre-purchase checklist
Send the host a short compatibility request and keep the written response. Ask for confirmation of:
- The exact target framework, such as .NET Framework 4.8.1 or .NET 10.
- Whether the selected plan—not merely the company’s platform—supports that runtime.
- Whether framework-dependent and self-contained deployments are supported.
- Whether the application can run in 32-bit or 64-bit mode as required.
- Windows Server and IIS versions.
- Application-pool memory, CPU policy, recycling, request timeout, and connection limits.
- SQL Server version, database count, database quota, transaction-log quota, compatibility level, and remote SQL Management Studio access.
- Support for stored procedures, full-text indexes, database backups, and restore from a supported export or
.bakfile. - WebSockets and SignalR behavior, including idle timeouts and connection limits.
- Web Deploy, Visual Studio Publish, FTP/FTPS, GitHub, ZIP deployment, and rollback options.
- Scheduled tasks, background workers, queue consumers, and long-running processes.
- SMTP availability, sending limits, port restrictions, and whether trial accounts differ from paid accounts.
- File-system write permissions and maximum upload size.
- Backup retention, download access, restore procedure, restore fees, and off-site storage.
- Data-center region and applicable data-residency requirements.
- Initial price, renewal price, billing term, taxes, add-ons, and cancellation policy.
Common failure modes
Putting a classic ASP.NET application on Linux
Web Forms and MVC 5 applications targeting .NET Framework do not run on a Linux-only plan. Confirm the project target before purchasing rather than relying on a provider’s generic “ASP.NET” label.

Choosing a runtime that the selected plan does not actually provide
A provider may describe support across its entire platform while individual plans have different runtimes or limits. Confirm the hosting bundle, framework-dependent deployment policy, self-contained deployment policy, and processor mode for the exact plan.
Running out of application-pool memory
Slow startup, repeated pool recycling, HTTP 500.30-style startup errors, out-of-memory exceptions, and timeouts during Entity Framework migrations or large reports can indicate a memory ceiling. Compare application-pool memory rather than storage and bandwidth alone.
Assuming scheduled tasks are available
Shared hosting may not support queue consumers, continuous workers, scheduled imports, long-running reports, SignalR workloads with unusual connection patterns, or Windows Services. Winhost lists scheduled tasks as unavailable on Max, while SmarterASP.NET lists them only on a higher plan. Confirm the policy before moving a background workload.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Discovering that email works in development but not on the host
Check SMTP availability, ports, sending limits, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. SmarterASP.NET states that SMTP is unavailable on trial accounts but available on paid accounts. A dedicated transactional email provider is often safer for password resets and business notifications.
Being surprised by database restore or migration limits
Before committing, verify that the host can restore your supported SQL export or .bak file, preserve stored procedures and full-text indexes, provide the required compatibility level, and let you export the database if you later leave.
Interpreting “unlimited” literally
Unlimited storage or bandwidth does not establish unlimited CPU, RAM, concurrent users, database performance, process lifetime, or absence of fair-use restrictions. Read the resource policy and ask about throttling.
Treating an uptime claim as measured reliability
A 99.9% monthly uptime target still permits about 43.8 minutes of downtime in a 30-day month. Maintenance, DNS issues, application failures, force majeure, and other exclusions may not count toward a credit. “99.9% uptime” is not the same as an independent availability measurement.

| Modern ASP.NET Core application with no Windows dependencies | Compare Linux hosting, containers, Azure App Service, and the shared hosts | Windows may not be technically necessary |
| Business-critical application expected to scale | Azure App Service or another managed cloud platform | Managed infrastructure, CI/CD, staging, observability, and scaling options |
| Need administrator access, Windows Services, custom IIS modules, or custom security software | Windows VPS or dedicated server | Shared hosting cannot provide reliable server-level control |
Other comparison lists sometimes rank managed VPS providers, Linux platforms, containers, or cloud services alongside shared Windows hosts. Those lists may be reasonable for their own category, but they are not like-for-like comparisons. The correct provider depends on the application’s framework, operating system dependencies, database, resource needs, and deployment model.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does every ASP.NET application need Windows hosting?
No. ASP.NET Web Forms, MVC 5, and applications targeting .NET Framework require Windows and IIS. Modern ASP.NET Core and .NET applications can run on Windows or Linux unless they depend on Windows-specific APIs, COM, registry access, Windows Authentication, or other Windows-only components.
Which of these ASP.NET hosts includes SQL Server?
SmarterASP.NET includes SQL Server in its shared plans, with quotas determined by plan. Winhost includes SQL Server on its Max plan and advertises 2 GB of SQL storage. DiscountASP.NET charges $10/month for a SQL Server add-on that includes 1 GB of database space and 1 GB of transaction-log space, so its $10 web plan is approximately $20/month with SQL before optional extras.
Can I deploy ASP.NET Core with Visual Studio or GitHub?
Yes, but the exact options vary. SmarterASP.NET documents Visual Studio publishing, Web Deploy, FTP/FTPS, and GitHub deployment. DiscountASP.NET and Winhost document Web Deploy and IIS-oriented tools. Confirm whether the selected plan supports your preferred workflow and how database migrations and rollback work.

Usually not without explicit provider support. Shared plans may recycle application pools, limit memory, block long-running processes, or restrict scheduled tasks. Winhost lists scheduled tasks as unavailable on its Max plan, and SmarterASP.NET lists them on a higher plan. Use a VPS or managed cloud service for continuous workers, queue consumers, and Windows Services.
When should I choose Azure App Service instead?
Choose Azure App Service when you need managed infrastructure, CI/CD, deployment slots, autoscaling, managed identity, observability, private networking, or a production growth path. Its usage-based pricing and separate charges for databases, logs, storage, backups, and networking make it a different category from low-cost shared hosting.
The Bottom Line
DiscountASP.NET is the best overall specialist for Windows/IIS ASP.NET hosting, SmarterASP.NET is the best budget choice when its memory and connection limits fit, and Winhost is the strongest conventional business-hosting alternative. Before ordering, identify whether the application targets .NET Framework or modern .NET, price SQL Server and backups, confirm the exact runtime and resource limits, and test deployment and restore procedures. For modern ASP.NET Core applications that need scaling or managed production capabilities, start with Azure App Service or another cloud platform instead of choosing a shared host by headline price alone.
