For most video editors, the Beelink SER8 is the best alternative to the Beelink ME Pro Creator Edition. It is the stronger editing-first computer, with an AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS, Radeon 780M graphics, upgradeable memory and fast creator-focused ports. You must, however, add a separate NAS, direct-attached storage enclosure or external-drive backup system because the SER8 is not a four-bay RAID NAS.
If your priority is building a high-speed NAS or home lab rather than buying a ready-made editing workstation, the Minisforum MS-01 is the more suitable starting point because of its dual 10GbE ports. The ME Pro Creator Edition remains the better one-box design when you want an editing-capable computer, multiple internal SSD positions, four SATA bays and built-in RAID modes. The right choice depends on whether editing performance, integrated redundant storage or network infrastructure comes first.
What does the Beelink ME Pro Creator Edition offer that an alternative must replace?
The Creator Edition is unusual because it combines a compact computer with a four-bay NAS chassis. TechRadar’s 25 October 2026 review describes an Intel Core i5-13500H with 12 cores and 16 threads, Intel Iris Xe graphics, 32GB of DDR4 memory expandable to 96GB, a 500GB system SSD, four M.2 positions and four 2.5/3.5-inch SATA bays.

The enclosure measures 165 × 121 × 185 mm and weighs 2.4 kg without drives. It runs FygoOS. TechRadar reported a Super Early Bird price of $819 and a list price of $1,169 for the Core i5 four-bay configuration, with drives excluded. Because the product was initially launching through Kickstarter, pledge delivery and eventual retail availability need to be checked before purchase.
An alternative therefore has to be judged on more than processor speed. It should be assessed against five practical requirements:
- Hardware video encode and decode support that your editing application can use.
- Enough CPU threads and memory for multicam timelines, proxies and exports.
- Fast scratch storage alongside enough capacity for camera originals and project files.
- A backup design that protects against drive failure and accidental deletion.
- Networking fast enough to move large media files without making the editor wait.
Which alternative is best for video editing?
The Beelink SER8 is the strongest cited editing-first alternative. Little Compute’s 18 October 2026 guide rated it 9/10 and listed it as its best overall mini PC for video editing. The configuration described uses an AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS with eight cores and 16 threads, boost speeds up to 5.1GHz, Radeon 780M graphics, two DDR5 SODIMM slots supporting up to 256GB, two PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots, USB4, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4 and 2.5GbE.

That is a more useful way to compare systems than looking only at advertised clock speed. As editor Marcus Ky put it, “For editing, the encode/decode engines matter more than the clock speed on the box.”
Why the SER8 works well as an editing computer
- Dedicated graphics media engines: Radeon 780M hardware can accelerate supported codecs and export paths, reducing the amount of work done entirely on the CPU.
- Upgradeable memory: Two SODIMM slots leave room to tailor memory to large timelines, compositing and proxy-heavy workflows. The cited maximum is 256GB, although the memory kit you choose must be compatible with the system.
- Fast internal scratch space: Two PCIe 4.0 M.2 positions allow one SSD to hold the operating system and applications while another is assigned to cache, previews and active projects.
- Modern display and expansion ports: USB4, HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 support a flexible monitor and high-speed peripheral setup.
- Compact editing footprint: It gives you a small workstation without consuming the physical space of a tower.
Little Compute listed a starting price of US$799 when checked on 10 October 2026. That price can change and does not automatically include the separate storage and backup hardware needed for a resilient media workflow.
What the SER8 cannot do by itself
The SER8 does not provide the ME Pro’s four integrated SATA bays or equivalent built-in RAID options. Two internal M.2 slots are useful for operating-system and scratch duties, but they are not a substitute for a multi-drive backup array. If you keep irreplaceable footage only on the SER8, a failed SSD, theft or accidental deletion can still destroy the project.

The sensible SER8 arrangement is to edit locally, then copy camera originals, project files and completed exports to a separate NAS, direct-attached storage enclosure or rotating external-drive set. That separation also lets you replace or upgrade the editing PC without rebuilding the entire storage pool.
Is the Minisforum MS-01 a better alternative for a NAS or home lab?
The MS-01 is the better cited option when networking, virtualization or a custom NAS build matters more than a ready-to-use appliance. Little Compute lists it as its best mini PC for a home lab or NAS, using an Intel Core i9-13900H and dual 10GbE ports.
The listed starting price is US$679 for a barebone configuration without RAM, SSD or an operating system. That distinction is important: the headline price is only the computer chassis and motherboard platform. You still need to buy memory and storage, install an operating system or NAS distribution, and configure shares, permissions, snapshots and backup jobs.
Why dual 10GbE matters
Two 10GbE ports can support high-throughput links to an editing workstation and another network segment, or allow a custom storage server to handle more than one fast client. Actual transfer rates depend on the switch, cabling, client network interface, disk array and protocol overhead. A 10GbE port on the computer does not make a hard-drive pool perform like an NVMe scratch disk.
For an editor, the MS-01 makes sense when you are comfortable assembling the rest of the system. You can select the drives, choose a NAS operating system, decide whether to use ZFS or another storage stack, and add services for virtualization or media management. That flexibility is also the main cost and support burden.
When the MS-01 is the wrong choice
Choose something simpler if you want to install drives, create a volume and start editing with minimal configuration. A barebone system can end up costing more than expected after memory, SSDs, operating-system licensing, a 10GbE switch and backup software are included. It also leaves you responsible for firmware updates, drive monitoring and recovery procedures.

How do the ME Pro, SER8 and MS-01 compare?
The following comparison uses the configurations and prices reported by TechRadar and Little Compute. Prices are time-sensitive, and the two mini-PC prices do not include every component required for a complete editing-and-backup system.

Can a mini PC handle 4K video editing and backups?
Yes, but “handle 4K” covers several different workloads. A mini PC may play a compressed single-camera 4K timeline smoothly while struggling with several high-bitrate streams, noise-reduction effects or heavily layered graphics. Hardware codec support, the editor’s use of Intel Quick Sync or AMD VCN, memory capacity, proxy settings and storage latency all affect the result.
Little Compute specifically notes that Quick Sync remains the safest choice when an editor relies heavily on hardware encoding. That makes codec compatibility a software decision as well as a hardware decision: confirm that your editor and the codecs from your camera use the available acceleration path before buying.

- Put applications on the system SSD. Keep the operating system, editing application and plug-ins on the boot drive so they do not compete with large media transfers.
- Use a separate fast scratch volume. On the SER8, the second PCIe 4.0 M.2 slot can be assigned to cache, previews, render files and active project data.
- Keep originals on redundant storage. Store camera cards and master media on the ME Pro array, a separate NAS or another multi-drive system rather than treating the scratch SSD as an archive.
- Generate proxies for difficult formats. Proxies reduce decoding and timeline pressure when the source codec is hard to play in real time. Keep the original media untouched and relink before final export.
- Back up the project database and settings. A media copy without the project file, graphics, fonts and plug-in settings may not be enough to reopen the edit.
- Export to a different physical destination. Writing the final master to the same disk that holds the only project copy does not provide meaningful protection.
Do I need a NAS if I buy a fast mini PC?
You do not need a separate NAS if you can accept single-device storage and maintain reliable external backups. You do need a second storage location if the footage matters: RAID improves availability after a drive failure, but it is not a complete backup because deletion, corruption, ransomware and physical damage can affect the whole array.
The ME Pro Creator Edition reduces the number of boxes by combining compute and storage. The SER8 keeps those jobs separate, which is often easier to upgrade and troubleshoot. The MS-01 gives you the most control but requires you to design the storage and software stack yourself.
Choosing a RAID level for media
- RAID 1: Mirrors data and tolerates a single drive failure in a two-drive set, at the cost of usable capacity.
- RAID 5: Uses parity and can tolerate one failed drive, but rebuilds can take time and performance depends on the controller and disks.
- RAID 6: Adds protection against two failed drives and is more appropriate for larger arrays where rebuild risk matters.
- RAID 10: Combines mirroring and striping for performance and redundancy, with usable capacity lower than the raw total.
- RAID 0: Stripes data without redundancy. It can be useful for disposable scratch data, never as the only copy of footage.
The ME Pro supports all five modes listed above. A custom MS-01 build can offer comparable or more advanced choices, but that depends on the operating system, controller and storage software you install. The SER8 requires an external device if you want this type of multi-drive protection.

What should a complete editing-and-backup budget include?
Comparing only the mini-PC sticker price produces a misleading result. Add the components and services that make the system usable:
- Editing computer memory and SSDs, especially for a barebone system.
- NAS-class hard drives for capacity and NVMe SSDs for scratch or metadata workloads.
- A second backup destination, such as external drives or another storage server.
- A 10GbE switch, compatible cabling and a 10GbE network adapter for every device that needs the speed.
- Operating-system licensing or a supported NAS distribution.
- Backup software, off-site copies and replacement-drive reserves.
- UPS protection if a storage array must remain available during short power interruptions.
The ME Pro’s quoted prices exclude drives. The MS-01’s quoted starting price excludes RAM, SSDs and an operating system. The SER8 price is for the computer and still leaves the backup system to be purchased separately. Recheck live pricing, seller, stock and configuration before committing, particularly for a product that initially launched on Kickstarter.

What common mistakes should you avoid?
Confusing RAID with backup
RAID can keep a volume online after a drive failure, but it cannot restore a file you deleted or encrypted. Maintain at least one copy that is disconnected or stored elsewhere, and test that you can restore a project rather than merely confirming that a backup job completed.
Buying a 10GbE computer without a 10GbE path
A fast port is useful only when the switch, cabling, client adapter and storage array can sustain it. If the other end is 2.5GbE, the link will be limited by that slower component.
Using the fastest SSD for everything
Scratch files are temporary and benefit from low latency. Long-term media libraries usually need capacity, redundancy and a second copy more than maximum benchmark numbers. Separate those roles so a full cache does not consume the space needed for originals.

Assuming all 4K formats are equally easy
Resolution alone does not predict playback performance. Bit depth, chroma subsampling, frame rate, compression and the number of simultaneous streams determine how much decoding work is required. Test a short sample from your actual camera before replacing proxies with native media.

Ignoring the lower-end ME Pro configuration
ServeTheHome’s 23 March 2026 review describes a different N95 ME Pro configuration with two 3.5-inch bays, soldered 12GB LPDDR5, a 512GB NVMe system drive, 2.5GbE and 5GbE ports. It is positioned for basic RAID 1 use and should not be treated as equivalent to the four-bay Core i5-13500H Creator Edition.
How should you make the final decision?
Start with the workload you cannot compromise on. If timeline responsiveness, codec acceleration and local exports are the priority, select the SER8 and budget for independent storage. If reducing the number of boxes and having RAID in the same enclosure matter most, the ME Pro Creator Edition is the closest match, provided its availability and drive costs work for you. If you want to design the NAS, run virtual machines and connect several high-speed clients, the MS-01 is the more flexible foundation.
Whichever route you choose, sketch the complete data flow before buying: camera card to ingest location, ingest location to working media, working media to backup, and backup to an off-site or disconnected copy. Can I edit directly from a RAID array instead of using a local SSD?
Yes, provided the array and network can sustain the codec’s read rate and your editing application handles the connection reliably. Many editors still keep cache, previews and temporary renders on a local NVMe SSD because those files generate frequent small reads and writes.
Will a 10GbE connection make hard-drive storage as fast as NVMe?
No. Network bandwidth is only one limit; hard-drive seek time, RAID parity work, protocol overhead and the number of concurrent users also matter. A 10GbE link is most valuable when the storage pool and workload can actually supply data fast enough to use it.
Should my backup array use the same drive model as my media array?
