The best Infosys alternative depends on the work you are buying. For a broad enterprise transformation or managed-services program, start a first-round shortlist with Accenture, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Capgemini, Cognizant, HCLTech, IBM Consulting and NTT DATA. Add DXC Technology or Kyndryl when infrastructure operations dominate, and add EPAM, Globant, Persistent, Thoughtworks or Virtusa when product engineering is the priority.
No published source establishes one universal winner. Gartner’s 2024 custom-software assessment, CRN’s 2025 North American revenue ranking, Everest Group’s provider-health scope and HFS Research’s generative-enterprise study measure different services, regions and outcomes. Use them to build a defensible shortlist, then select a supplier through like-for-like references, a controlled RFP, technical validation and contract-level risk checks.
What are the strongest alternatives to Infosys?
For most enterprise buyers, the practical alternative set is Accenture, TCS, Capgemini, Cognizant, HCLTech, IBM Consulting, NTT DATA, Wipro and DXC Technology. These providers cover overlapping combinations of consulting, custom software, cloud, applications, infrastructure and business-process services, but their fit varies by tower, industry, geography and commercial model.

| EPAM, Globant, Persistent, Thoughtworks and Virtusa | Product engineering, digital platforms and custom software where specialist depth matters | Listed in Gartner’s 2024 custom-software assessment; do not infer global infrastructure scale from that listing |
CRN’s order is a North American provider-revenue ranking, not a quality score. A lower-ranked supplier can be a better choice for a narrowly defined product or region, while a large integrator can be a poor fit for a small team that needs senior engineers.
Which provider is best for a large transformation or managed-services contract?
Begin with Accenture, TCS, Capgemini, Cognizant, HCLTech, IBM Consulting and NTT DATA when the program spans several towers, countries or enterprise platforms. Their recurrence across Gartner’s custom-software set and CRN’s scale ranking makes them reasonable first-round candidates, not automatic winners.
What to test in the first round
- Ask each bidder to map named capabilities to your actual towers: applications, cloud, infrastructure, service desk, cybersecurity, ERP and business processes.
- Require a transition plan that identifies incumbent knowledge capture, data migration, tooling changes, staffing by location and the point at which service-level commitments begin.
- Separate advisory work from build and run services so you can see who owns architecture decisions, production reliability and benefits realization.
- Request references for a comparable scope, industry, regulatory environment and geography rather than accepting a logo list.
Large suppliers can provide resilience and broad coverage, but scale can also introduce layers of subcontracting, account-team turnover and standardized methods that do not suit a specialized estate. Make the delivery organization named in the proposal contractually meaningful.
Which alternatives fit infrastructure-heavy outsourcing?
Add DXC Technology and Kyndryl to the broad integrator list when data-center operations, service management, mainframe, network operations or end-user computing are central. Their presence in a shortlist should trigger infrastructure-specific diligence rather than a generic software scorecard.
Infrastructure due-diligence checklist
- Request incident, problem and change-management performance for environments with similar criticality.
- Verify the proposed operating model for data centers, public cloud, networks, backups, identity and observability.
- Define recovery-time and recovery-point objectives, maintenance windows, escalation paths and exclusions in measurable terms.
- Check whether tooling, licenses and automation are transferable if the contract ends.
- Ask for named references that can discuss major incidents, not only steady-state service.
CRN lists DXC Technology 14th and Kyndryl 11th in its 2025 Solution Provider 500. Those positions describe North American revenue and should not be read as infrastructure-service quality rankings.

Which alternatives are strongest for product engineering and custom software?
If the main outcome is a new digital product, modern customer experience or engineering platform, add EPAM, Globant, Persistent, Thoughtworks and Virtusa to the global integrators. Gartner’s 2024 custom-software assessment is more relevant here than a broad infrastructure or revenue league table because it evaluates providers building products with design, generative AI, APIs and technology expertise.
Questions for an engineering-focused evaluation
- Who owns product discovery, user research, architecture, testing, security and operations after launch?
- Can the proposed team show production systems with comparable scale, latency, availability and regulatory controls?
- What percentage of the work is performed by senior engineers, and where are they located?
- How are source code, models, prompts, test data, build pipelines and intellectual-property rights transferred at exit?
- What evidence shows improved product metrics, not simply completed features?
Specialist engineering firms may offer tighter senior-team access and stronger product practices. They may not provide the same breadth of service desk, data-center or global procurement capability as a mega-integrator, so decide whether those towers belong in the same contract.
How should telecom buyers narrow the field?
Use a telecom-specific reference set and do not generalize a vertical ranking to unrelated industries. HFS Research’s 2025 telecom assessment places Accenture, Capgemini, EY, HCLTech, Infosys, NTT DATA and Tech Mahindra in its Horizon 3 group; Cognizant, IBM and TCS appear in Horizon 2 for that assessment.
For a telecom RFP, test BSS and OSS modernization, network automation, 5G use cases, field-service integration, regulatory reporting and high-volume customer operations. Ask for references that match your operator type and region, because a consumer-mobile deployment may not predict performance in wholesale, satellite or fixed broadband operations.
How do the major rankings and analyst reports differ?
Each source answers a different question. Treating them as one leaderboard creates false precision.

| Gartner, Magic Quadrant for Custom Software Development Services, October 15, 2024 | Providers that build new products using design, generative AI, APIs and technology expertise; dimensions are Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision | Identify candidates for custom software and product engineering | It does not establish lowest cost, best infrastructure operations or fit for your geography |
| CRN, 2025 Solution Provider 500 | North American solution-provider revenue ranking; Accenture is first, NTT DATA second, TCS third, Capgemini fourth, IBM Consulting sixth, Cognizant seventh, Infosys eighth, Kyndryl 11th, CGI 13th, DXC Technology 14th, HCLTech 16th and Wipro Technologies 17th among the listed firms | Understand relative scale and market presence | Revenue order is not a quality, innovation, satisfaction or delivery ranking |

What does current evidence say about generative-enterprise services?
HFS Research’s 2025 market study reports, from 2023 to 2024, a 142% increase in clients, 220% growth in revenue, 250% growth in AI-trained employees and a 62% increase in AI labs among the providers it analyzed. Those are market-level findings, not forecasts for any particular bidder or proof that an AI proposal will create value in your company.

The same study reports average satisfaction of 8.3/10 for service-provider basics, 8.7/10 for technology implementation and 8.1/10 for business transformation. It also says 80% of reference respondents viewed the value realized today as Horizon 1 functional digital transformation. In an RFP, therefore, ask how the supplier will measure operating margin, revenue, cycle time, risk reduction or customer outcomes after implementation, rather than accepting deployment activity as the definition of success.
How do I compare Infosys alternatives in an RFP?
Use a staged process that prevents a polished presentation from substituting for evidence.
- Define the work. Split the requirement into custom product development, application modernization, cloud migration, infrastructure operations, service desk, cybersecurity, ERP and business-process services. State which towers are in scope, which are optional and which remain with your team.
- Set geography and industry gates. Require references in the regulated industry and target countries. Specify language coverage, local staffing, data-residency rules, export controls and travel expectations.
- Validate technology depth. Ask for relevant cloud certifications, platform partnerships, legacy-modernization examples, data and AI engineering practices, security controls and production operating experience. Request evidence from the team that would actually deliver the work.
- Design the delivery model. Compare offshore, nearshore and onshore mix; transition waves; governance cadence; service-level objectives; incident, problem and change management; architecture authority; and escalation routes.
- Run a proof exercise. Give finalists the same representative workload, such as a legacy interface to modernize, a data pipeline to secure or an incident scenario to resolve. Score the resulting design, assumptions, staffing and operational runbook.
- Compare commercials on a common baseline. Normalize unit rates, managed-service fees, travel, tooling, cloud pass-through, transition charges, inflation, outcome-based incentives and time-and-materials assumptions. Require bidders to disclose subcontracting and volume discounts.
- Negotiate risk protections. Cover benchmark rights, audit access, security obligations, resilience, insurance, financial health, talent-retention commitments, termination assistance, source-code ownership and an executable exit plan.
- Check references independently. Ask references what went wrong, how quickly the supplier corrected it, how account leadership changed and whether promised savings or business outcomes were achieved.
Score every finalist against the same evidence requirements. A supplier that refuses a comparable proof exercise or cannot provide a reference for the proposed operating model should lose points even if its brand recognition is high.
What weighting should a buyer use for a shortlist?
A useful starting model is to weight the criteria by business consequence, then adjust it for your program. Do not let a low hourly rate compensate for an unacceptable security or transition risk.

| Criterion | Suggested questions | Typical decision signal |
|---|---|---|
| Scope and technical fit | Can the named team operate the exact platforms, legacy systems and production constraints? | Evidence from comparable live environments |
| Industry and geography | Does the supplier understand regulation, language, labor rules and residency in each target market? | Current, referenceable local delivery |
| Delivery and governance | How will transition, incidents, changes, architecture and escalation work? | Specific roles, cadences, thresholds and remedies |
| Transformation outcomes | How will the program improve business performance after go-live? | Baselines, owners and independently checkable measures |
| Commercial value | Are prices transparent across run, change, cloud, tooling and transition? | Comparable total cost and flexible demand model |
| Risk and resilience | Can you survive a major incident, key-person loss, supplier failure or early termination? | Tested continuity and exit provisions |
Keep the scoring model visible to procurement, technology, security, finance and business owners. Different stakeholders often optimize different outcomes; a documented weighting exposes those trade-offs before contract signature.

Choosing by a single ranking
Revenue, analyst placement and market-leader labels measure different things. Use them to generate candidates, then apply your own scope, geography, outcome and risk gates.
Comparing day rates instead of total cost
A low rate can be offset by transition delays, rework, travel, tooling, cloud markups, overtime or weak automation. Compare a multi-year cost model that includes those elements and an explicit productivity baseline.
Accepting generic references
A reference for application development does not validate a 24/7 infrastructure operation, a regulated data platform or a telecom BSS transformation. Match references to the tower, operating model and region you are buying.

Ignoring exit before entry
Require usable documentation, transferable tooling, code and data rights, knowledge-transfer obligations and time-bound transition assistance. An attractive initial contract can become expensive if the supplier controls essential knowledge or licenses.
How should the final decision be made?
Select the provider that can demonstrate the best fit for your defined work, not the provider with the most impressive general reputation. For a broad transformation, that may be one of the large global integrators; for a product-engineering program, a specialist may offer better senior-team access; for infrastructure operations, an infrastructure-led provider may reduce operational risk.
Before award, reconcile the proposal, proof exercise, reference feedback and contract language. If they disagree, treat the inconsistency as a risk to resolve rather than a detail to defer. Record why the chosen supplier won, which assumptions the price depends on and what evidence will trigger remediation or re-bid.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a smaller specialist outperform a global systems integrator?
Yes, when the requirement is concentrated in product design, software engineering or a specific platform and the specialist can prove comparable production results. The trade-off is usually less breadth for infrastructure, service desk, procurement and global coverage, so keep adjacent towers separate or add a qualified partner.
Should I outsource all technology towers to one provider?
Not necessarily. A single provider can simplify governance, but a multi-supplier model can preserve competition and give you specialist depth. Decide after mapping dependencies, integration ownership, security boundaries and the practical cost of coordinating suppliers.
What should be in an Infosys replacement transition plan?
It should identify knowledge-transfer owners, application and infrastructure inventories, access and tooling changes, data migration, parallel operations, acceptance criteria, staffing by location and the conditions for service-level credits. Include a reverse-transition plan so the same information is available if you later change suppliers.
How can a buyer verify an AI-services claim?
Ask for a working demonstration using representative data, model-risk controls, security and privacy safeguards, evaluation metrics, human-override procedures and a production support model. Require the bidder to distinguish internally developed assets from third-party models and to state who owns resulting artifacts.
When should procurement involve finance and security?
Bring them in while the shortlist and scoring model are being designed, not after technical selection. Finance can normalize total cost and liabilities, while security can test residency, subcontracting, resilience, access controls and exit requirements before commercial terms harden.
