The best AI travel planning app depends on the job you need done. For preference-led ideas and a trip workspace, Mindtrip is the closest fit. Layla adds optional human travel-advisor help. Wanderlog is designed around a detailed itinerary and map. TripIt is better when your flights, hotels and activities are already booked and you need one organized schedule. Roadtrippers is the specialist for driving routes, scenic stops and RV travel.
Those are capability-based recommendations from official product descriptions, not results from an independent accuracy or usability test. Before you travel, confirm opening hours, transport, prices, availability, cancellation rules and route details with the relevant providers.
Choose by the travel problem you are solving
“AI travel planner” covers two different categories. Generative planners help you decide where to go and turn preferences into candidate days. Reservation organizers collect confirmations you already have and arrange them into a usable itinerary. Some products combine both jobs, but they do not all emphasize the same part of the trip.
| Your main need | Best documented fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Discover places and experiences from your preferences | Mindtrip | Its product description says it learns traveler preferences, recommends places, events and experiences, and keeps ideas and bookings in one trip workspace. |
| Plan with the option of a human advisor | Layla | Layla describes AI planning from your ideas, preferences and budget, with advisors able to refine a plan and arrange included bookings. |
| Build a detailed day-by-day plan around a map | Wanderlog | Its homepage emphasizes detailed itineraries, booking management, and seeing the itinerary and map together. |
| Organize reservations you have already made | TripIt | You forward confirmation emails and TripIt creates an itinerary; its store listing also describes maps, sharing and offline access. |
| Plan a driving holiday, scenic route or RV journey | Roadtrippers | Its Autopilot page is specifically positioned around road-trip routes, scenic drives and RV trips. |
No common independent test in the available evidence establishes that one of these apps produces the most accurate routes, the best recommendations or the broadest booking inventory. Treat the table as a way to narrow your shortlist, not as a performance ranking.

What an AI travel-planning app actually does
A planning app usually combines a conversational interface with destination, place and booking data. You describe constraints such as dates, budget, interests, walking tolerance, children in the group or a preference for museums over nightlife. The service then proposes destinations, places or activities and may arrange them into days. If you accept an idea, you still need to check the underlying details: a recommendation can be unavailable, closed on the proposed day, too far from the previous stop or priced differently from the displayed estimate.
Organization apps solve a different problem. They ingest confirmation emails or reservation details, normalize dates and times, and show flights, hotels, rail tickets, car rentals and activities in chronological order. That can eliminate manual copying, but it does not create missing reservations or guarantee that a provider will honor a schedule. Keep the original confirmation and provider contact information.
Three questions to answer before installing anything
- Are you still choosing a destination, or have you already booked the major components?
- Do you need a map to judge distances between stops, or only a chronological list?
- Would you pay for a person to refine the plan and handle bookings, or do you want self-service planning?
Your answers determine which features matter more than the presence of an “AI” label.
Mindtrip: preference-led discovery and a trip workspace
Mindtrip describes a travel assistant that learns a traveler’s preferences and recommends places, events and experiences. It also describes keeping itinerary ideas and bookings together, finding flight, stay and restaurant options, sending alerts and offering advice while you are on the trip.
When Mindtrip is the right starting point
- You want inspiration before committing to a destination or list of stops.
- You prefer to keep research ideas and potential bookings in one workspace.
- You want suggestions shaped around stated interests rather than a generic “top attractions” list.
- You value alerts or in-trip guidance as part of the same service.
What to verify
The description establishes a feature set, not recommendation quality. Check whether the flights, hotels and restaurants it shows are available in your destination and currency, and compare the final price and cancellation terms on the provider’s own checkout. Confirm that alerts use the time zone and contact method you expect. The product description does not establish that inventory is comprehensive or that every recommendation is open when suggested.
Layla: AI planning with optional human assistance
Layla combines AI trip planning with optional travel-advisor support. Its materials say you can start from your ideas, preferences and budget; an advisor can then refine the plan and arrange included bookings. Layla’s FAQ says AI planning has no subscription or planning fee, while the travel arrangements you book cost money.
When Layla fits
- You want a conversational draft but may need a person to resolve complex logistics.
- You are comfortable paying for the flights, accommodation, activities or other arrangements included in the final trip.
- Your itinerary has enough moving parts that assistance with booking coordination is valuable.
Layla’s stated budget guidance
Layla recommends a minimum budget of €100 per person per night for its tailor-made trips. That is the company’s own guidance, not a universal minimum for travel. A destination’s season, room type, transportation and activities can make a realistic budget substantially higher or lower. Ask what is included in any quoted trip and whether taxes, transfers, meals, insurance and change fees are separate.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFree planning does not mean a free trip
“Free” in Layla’s FAQ refers to the AI planning service and the absence of a subscription or planning fee. It does not make the reservations free. Review the itemized price, payment schedule, refund rules and who the contracting provider is before authorizing a booking.

Wanderlog: map-centered itinerary building
Wanderlog emphasizes detailed itineraries, booking management and an itinerary-and-map view. That combination is useful when the order of stops matters as much as the attractions themselves.
Why the map view matters
A list can look reasonable while hiding long backtracking trips. A map lets you spot clusters, identify an outlying attraction and decide whether to move it to another day. It also helps you compare a central hotel with a cheaper property farther from the places you want to visit. Use the map as a planning aid, then verify travel times at the time of day you expect to move; displayed distances do not guarantee actual journey times.
Best use cases
- City breaks with several neighborhoods or attractions per day.
- Trips where you are collecting candidate restaurants, museums and activities before finalizing.
- Groups that need to see and edit one shared itinerary.
- Travelers who want reservations and proposed stops represented in the same plan.
The cited product description does not provide an independent comparison of route quality, recommendation accuracy or coverage by region. Confirm each stop’s address, hours and booking requirement.

TripIt: organize bookings you already have
TripIt is the clearest fit when the trip is already booked. Its product page says you forward confirmation emails and the service creates an itinerary. The Google Play listing describes itinerary access offline, maps and sharing.
How to build an itinerary
- Make a reservation with the airline, hotel, rail operator, rental company or activity provider.
- Forward the confirmation email to the TripIt address specified in your account, or add the trip details using the app’s supported entry method.
- Review the imported dates, times, locations and traveler names. Correct any parsing error against the original confirmation.
- Add items that do not generate forwarding emails, such as a meeting, dinner or a self-booked local transfer.
- Share the itinerary only with people who need it, and use offline access when you may have unreliable connectivity.
Forwarding a confirmation organizes a reservation; it does not ask an AI to invent a day-by-day sightseeing plan. If you need attraction recommendations or a sequence of stops, pair the organized reservations with a planning tool or create those activities manually.
TripIt Pro price information
The Google Play listing reports TripIt Pro renewing annually at $48.99 and shows an app update date of July 16, 2026. That is the price and update information displayed in that listing; it may differ by country, platform, taxes, promotion or account, so check the current store page before subscribing.
Roadtrippers: the specialist for driving itineraries
Roadtrippers’ Autopilot page describes routes for road trips, scenic drives and RV journeys. It is therefore a specialized choice rather than a general-purpose planner for every kind of holiday.
Use it when the journey is the trip
- You need a route with planned stops rather than a single point-to-point transfer.
- Scenic roads, roadside attractions or overnight stops are central to the experience.
- You are driving an RV and need an itinerary shaped around that travel style.
Before following a generated route, check road restrictions, seasonal closures, fuel or charging availability, vehicle size limits, parking and campground rules. A scenic detour that works for a car may be unsuitable for a large RV or a vehicle towing a trailer.

What about Expedia Romie?
Expedia Group announced Romie in 2024 as an assistant for itinerary building and summarizing group-chat plans. That announcement is dated and does not establish that Romie is currently available in your country, app or account. Treat it as an announced product until you can verify a current listing and supported workflow. Do not choose it solely because of the announcement.
A practical comparison framework
Use these criteria when two apps appear to offer overlapping features:
| Criterion | Questions to ask | Evidence available here |
|---|---|---|
| Planning versus organization | Does it generate ideas, import confirmed reservations, or both? | Mindtrip, Layla and Wanderlog describe planning; TripIt emphasizes importing confirmations. |
| Day-by-day detail | Can you arrange stops into days and adjust the order? | Wanderlog describes detailed itineraries; Mindtrip describes itinerary ideas and bookings. |
| Geographic context | Can you see stops on a map while editing? | Wanderlog describes an itinerary and map in one view; TripIt’s store listing describes maps. |
| Human help | Can a person refine the plan or handle bookings? | Layla describes optional advisor support. |
| Road-trip specialization | Does the service account for scenic drives, road stops or RV travel? | Roadtrippers’ Autopilot page is specifically positioned for those trips. |
| Offline access | Can you open the itinerary without a data connection? | Offline itinerary access is described in TripIt’s Google Play listing; it is not established for every other app here. |
| Price and booking terms | Is planning free, is there a subscription, and who charges for reservations? | Layla says AI planning has no planning fee; TripIt’s listing reports a $48.99 annual Pro renewal. A complete regional comparison is not established. |
Also check privacy controls, account sharing, export options, notification settings and how the service handles confirmation emails. The cited product descriptions do not provide a common independent assessment of data handling or regional inventory.

- Write a constraint brief. Include dates, arrival and departure points, budget range, travelers’ ages, mobility needs, interests, dietary requirements and non-negotiable bookings.
- Ask for alternatives. Request at least two neighborhood, hotel or route options and ask the planner to state assumptions, such as travel time, opening days and transport mode.
- Separate ideas from commitments. Mark suggestions as candidates until you have checked availability and booked directly or through a provider you trust.
- Put stops in geographic order. Use a map view where available and avoid scheduling distant places on the same day without checking transfer time.
- Check every time-sensitive fact. Verify hours, reservation requirements, ticket release dates, local holidays, weather-dependent activities and last entry times.
- Confirm transport realistically. Compare the suggested route with current rail, flight, road, ferry or public-transport schedules. Add connection buffers.
- Record confirmations. Keep booking numbers, cancellation deadlines, provider phone numbers and emergency contacts in the itinerary.
- Prepare for no connectivity. Download tickets, addresses and maps where the service supports offline access, and keep critical documents outside the app as a backup.
- Recheck shortly before departure. Inventory, prices, schedules and app features can change after you make the plan.
Common failure modes and fixes
The plan is too ambitious
Ask the app to limit the number of major activities per day, include travel time and reserve a buffer. Remove low-priority stops rather than compressing every day.
A recommended venue is closed
Check the venue’s own calendar and replace it with an alternative in the same neighborhood. Ask the planner to regenerate only that day instead of rebuilding the whole trip.
The route doubles back
Switch to a map-based workflow, cluster stops by area and specify your starting hotel or station. For driving trips, validate road restrictions and seasonal conditions.
A booking was not imported correctly
Compare the organized entry with the original confirmation email, correct the date or time manually and retain the provider’s reference number. Forwarding systems can misread unusual formats or multi-leg reservations.

Choose it when scenic roads, roadside stops or RV travel define the trip. It is not presented as the all-purpose answer for flights, hotels and city itineraries.
Availability, pricing and evidence limits
Product pages and app listings change. Prices can vary by country, currency, platform, tax and promotion, and a feature advertised in one region may not be available in another. The only concrete subscription price identified for this comparison is TripIt Pro’s $48.99 annual renewal in the Google Play listing updated July 16, 2026. Layla states that AI planning has no subscription or planning fee, while booked arrangements are paid. No complete, region-by-region price table is established for the other services.
The distinctions in this guide come from official product descriptions and a dated product announcement. They do not prove comparative accuracy, ease of use, privacy practices, route quality or booking coverage. Verify those points in the current app, store listing and booking flow before relying on a service for a real trip.
