The Epson Pro Cinema LS12000 is the best all-round choice when you need one projector for PS5, Xbox Series X, high-end PC gaming and films. Epson specifies gaming up to 4K at 120 frames per second with input lag below 20 ms. For a very large dedicated room, the Epson EH-QL7000B adds HDMI 2.1, 4K/120Hz and ALLM; for a reference-style cinema installation, JVC’s DLA-NZ800 combines native 4K D-ILA panels with 4K120p input in Low Latency Mode.

The critical qualification is that “120Hz” on a projector specification does not automatically mean 4K at 120Hz. The BenQ V5010i and X3000i, for example, list 4K at 60Hz but 120Hz and 240Hz only at 1080p. Use the mode-by-mode table below, not a headline refresh-rate badge, when choosing a projector.

Quick comparison: which projector actually suits your signal?

These lag numbers are manufacturer figures, not independent measurements. Epson explicitly says there is no official input-lag measurement standard and that its figures use Epson’s own method. Compare numbers only when the resolution and refresh rate match your intended setting, and treat figures from different brands as directional rather than laboratory-equivalent.

What “4K 120Hz” means on a projector

Resolution and refresh rate are separate modes

A projector can accept a 4K signal at 60Hz and still advertise 120Hz because its 120Hz mode works at 1080p. That is exactly how the V5010i and X3000i are specified: their fastest modes reduce resolution. If you want the console or PC to deliver 3840×2160 at 120Hz, the manufacturer must explicitly document that combination.

Input, processing and displayed image

“Supports” can describe an input signal, a processing mode or a displayed image. Check the manual and on-screen information panel after connecting your source. A valid 4K/120 signal should be shown as 4K or 2160p together with 120Hz; a 1080p/120 signal is a different mode even if the projector’s marketing page contains the words “120Hz gaming.”

Why 4K/120 matters

PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and modern gaming PCs can target 120 frames per second in supported games. At 4K/120, motion is clearer and controller-to-screen response can feel more immediate than 4K/60. The benefit is game-dependent: a title must offer a 120-fps mode, and the console may lower visual detail to maintain that frame rate. Films and most television remain 24, 25, 30 or 60 frames per second, so theater performance still depends on contrast, tone mapping, color and room control.

Epson Pro Cinema LS12000: the best balanced 4K/120 choice

Epson positions the LS12000 as a 4K PRO-UHD laser projector for serious gaming and home theater. Its official product information says it supports “gaming up to 4K at 120 frames per second” with input-lag times below 20 ms. That combination makes it the clearest single-projector match for a household that alternates between current consoles, a gaming PC and movies.

Why it stands out

  • Documented 4K/120 gaming: the claim covers 4K at 120 frames per second rather than only 1080p high refresh.
  • One installation for mixed use: you do not have to trade away the console’s 4K output whenever you want 120Hz.
  • Laser light source: it suits frequent gaming sessions and movie viewing without lamp replacement planning.

Setup checks that matter

Use a certified high-bandwidth HDMI cable appropriate for your source and connect to the input identified in the current manual for the required signal. On the PS5, enable 120 Hz Output under Screen and Video and leave Resolution on Automatic or 2160p; then confirm the game itself has a 120-fps performance option. On Xbox Series X, open Settings > General > TV & display options, select 4K UHD, set Refresh rate to 120 Hz and run 4K TV details to see which capabilities the projector reports. If the console falls back to 60Hz, test another cable and input before changing picture settings.

Who should choose it

Choose the LS12000 when you want the least ambiguous route to 4K/120 without making the room a specialist simulation venue. It is also the sensible shortlist leader when gaming and cinema receive roughly equal priority. Because Epson’s lag method is not an industry standard, do not directly rank its “below 20 ms” against a rival’s figure without checking the test conditions.

Epson EH-QL7000B: for very large images and fast sports

Epson Europe lists the EH-QL7000B with HDMI 2.1, 4K/120Hz refresh and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). The same listing describes image sizes up to 1,000 inches and a 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Those specifications target a dedicated large room, sports simulation area or other installation where screen scale is as important as living-room convenience.

What HDMI 2.1 and ALLM add

HDMI 2.1 is the interface feature associated with high-bandwidth 4K/120 sources; ALLM lets a compatible console request the projector’s lower-latency picture mode automatically. ALLM does not make every source 4K/120, so the console, cable, input and game still need to negotiate the correct mode.

Installation implications

A projector capable of a 1,000-inch image needs a room and screen designed around the throw distance, viewing angle and brightness available at that size. Treat the quoted maximum as an installation capability, not a recommendation for every room. Measure the mounting position and image width before ordering, and confirm regional distribution because the cited specification is from Epson Europe.

Best use case

The EH-QL7000B makes sense when a large dedicated room, fast-moving sports or simulator-style content is the priority. It is excessive for a small lounge, where screen placement and ambient light will limit the practical benefit long before the projector reaches its maximum image size.

JVC DLA-NZ800: native-4K theater first

JVC’s product sheet identifies a third-generation 0.69-inch native-4K D-ILA device in the DLA-NZ800 and says that 4K120p input used with Low Latency Mode is excellent for gaming. This is the choice for a buyer who values cinema-grade native-4K detail and deep black performance, yet still wants a modern console input.

Why native 4K changes the decision

Native-4K imaging uses 4K-addressable D-ILA devices rather than relying on a lower-resolution panel and shifting pixels. That distinction matters most in a controlled theater with a large screen, where fine text, film grain and high-resolution game textures are easy to see. It does not automatically make the NZ800 the fastest projector: the cited sheet does not publish an input-lag number, so evaluate responsiveness in the exact Low Latency Mode configuration.

Installation and buying caution

The NZ800 belongs in a planned theater installation with careful attention to screen gain, throw distance, lens position and room reflections. The cited material covers JVC’s 2024–2025 product line; confirm current regional stock, firmware and included accessories before committing to a new build.

BenQ V5010i: an ultra-short-throw alternative, not confirmed 4K/120

The V5010i is designed for a bright, easy living-room installation close to the screen. BenQ lists 17.9 ms at 4K/60Hz, 12.6 ms at 1080p/120Hz and 5.1 ms at 1080p/240Hz, and describes ALLM switching for console play.

How to read those numbers

At 4K, the published mode is 60Hz. The faster 120Hz and 240Hz figures apply to 1080p, so this is not evidence of 4K/120 output. It can still be an excellent choice for competitive games where 1080p/120 or 1080p/240 is preferable to 4K/60, particularly when a large image and simple furniture-level placement matter more than maximum resolution.

Screen pairing

Ultra-short-throw projectors are sensitive to ceiling lights and wall reflections. A matched ALR (ambient-light-rejecting) screen, such as the SNS21 package BenQ identifies for this installation style, can preserve contrast and reduce washout. Budget for the screen as part of the system rather than treating it as an optional decoration.

BenQ X3000i: gaming value when 1080p high refresh is enough

BenQ lists 16 ms at 4K/60Hz, 8 ms at 1080p/120Hz and 4.16 ms at 1080p/240Hz for the X3000i. Those figures make it attractive for fast, large-screen play when you are willing to run games at 1080p for the highest refresh rates.

Strengths

  • Very low published lag in its 1080p high-refresh modes.
  • A practical path to 120Hz or 240Hz gaming without requiring a 4K/120 source chain.
  • Suitable for buyers whose priority is motion response rather than native-4K detail.

Important smart-platform limitation

BenQ says Netflix supports only specific authorized devices and is not natively available on its smart home projectors. Plan to connect an external streaming device if Netflix is part of your theater use, and make sure that device supports the audio and video formats you intend to send through the projector or AV receiver.

Room, screen and placement can outweigh the refresh-rate headline

Ambient light and screen choice

Brightness is not experienced in isolation. Daylight, white walls and ceiling reflections lift the black floor and reduce HDR impact. In a dark theater, a neutral screen can preserve viewing angles and color; in a living room or UST installation, an ALR screen can reject some unwanted light. Match screen material to projector geometry rather than selecting a screen solely by gain number.

Throw distance and image size

Measure the projector’s throw range against the screen width before buying. A projector that cannot focus at your intended distance, or whose lens shift cannot reach the mounting point, will require a compromise that no 4K/120 feature fixes. Large images also need more light to maintain punch, especially with HDR.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Lens shift versus digital correction

Physical lens shift preserves more of the projected image than digital keystone correction, which scales and discards pixels. For a permanent theater, plan the mount and screen so the lens is close to the optical center. Use digital correction only when the installation constraint is unavoidable.

Audio and eARC

Route audio deliberately. If the console connects to an AV receiver, confirm that the receiver passes the same 4K/120 signal the projector accepts. If the console connects directly to the projector, use eARC or an optical/analog path only when the projector and receiver support the required formats. A video link that works at 4K/60 may fail at 4K/120 if an older switch or receiver sits in the chain.

How to verify 4K/120 after installation

  1. Update and reset the signal path: install current projector and console firmware, then connect the console directly to the projector’s documented high-bandwidth input for the first test.
  2. Use a suitable cable: replace uncertain or very long cables with a certified cable rated for the required HDMI mode.
  3. Set the console output: choose 4K/2160p and 120Hz where the console allows it. Enable the game’s 120-fps performance mode.
  4. Read the projector’s information panel: verify that it reports 2160p and 120Hz simultaneously. “120Hz” alone is not enough.
  5. Enable low-latency processing: select Game or Low Latency Mode, or allow ALLM to switch it automatically when supported.
  6. Test stability: play for several minutes, checking for black screens, sparkles, dropouts or a fallback to 60Hz. If problems occur, bypass switches and receivers, shorten the cable and test each HDMI input.
  7. Restore your theater chain: once direct connection works, add the receiver, switch or soundbar one device at a time and retest the reported mode.

Choosing by priority

Choose the Epson LS12000 if you need one balanced system

It is the most straightforward recommendation for a mixed gaming-and-movie room because Epson explicitly documents 4K/120 gaming and sub-20-ms lag using its method.

Choose the Epson EH-QL7000B for a very large dedicated room

Its HDMI 2.1, 4K/120Hz and ALLM specification is paired with an unusually large stated image capability. Verify that the model is sold and supported in your region.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the JVC DLA-NZ800 for a reference-style cinema

Native 4K D-ILA and 4K120p Low Latency Mode suit a theater where black level and fine film detail outrank value. Obtain a current regional specification before ordering.

Choose the BenQ V5010i for UST convenience

Select it when furniture-level placement, bright-room usability and a large image matter more than confirmed 4K/120. Add an appropriate ALR screen and expect 4K gaming at 60Hz or 1080p gaming at higher refresh rates.

Choose the BenQ X3000i for 1080p high-refresh gaming

Its published 1080p/120 and 1080p/240 figures are compelling for speed-focused play, but the cited specification does not establish 4K/120. Add an external streaming device if you require Netflix.

Buying checklist

  • Does the manufacturer explicitly list 4K/120, or only 1080p/120?
  • Which HDMI input supports the required mode, and do your receiver, switch and cable pass it?
  • What is the manufacturer’s lag figure at your exact resolution and refresh rate?
  • Is the projector native 4K, or does its 4K label describe another display technique?
  • Will brightness, HDR performance and black level suit your room and screen?
  • Can the lens, throw range and lens shift place the image without excessive keystone correction?
  • Do you need HDMI 2.1, ALLM, eARC or an external streamer?
  • Is the exact model distributed and supported in your country?

For most buyers, the Epson Pro Cinema LS12000 is the safest starting point because its published specification directly addresses the question consoles and PC gamers ask: 4K at 120 frames per second. Move to the EH-QL7000B when the room is exceptionally large, to the JVC DLA-NZ800 when native-4K theater performance is the priority, or to either BenQ when you deliberately prefer a 1080p high-refresh mode or an ultra-short-throw living-room installation.
