Augmented reality tools are not one type of software: ARCore and ARKit provide native tracking, Unity and Unreal build interactive 3D apps, WebXR and Zapworks deliver browser experiences, Lens Studio and Effect House create social effects, and Blender produces 3D assets. Choose according to the target device, tracking features, distribution channel, technical skill, and commercial requirements.

The most important decision is where the experience will run. An Android application, an iPhone app, a QR-code WebAR campaign, a Snapchat lens, and an industrial headset workflow need different runtimes and production pipelines. A tool can be excellent for one of those jobs and unsuitable for another.

Key takeaways

  • Google ARCore is the strongest starting point for Android-first native AR, while Apple ARKit is the corresponding native framework for iPhone and iPad applications.
  • Unity with AR Foundation is a practical cross-platform choice for substantial Android and iOS 3D applications, but AR feature support still differs between providers and devices.
  • WebXR and commercial WebAR platforms such as Zapworks can remove the app-installation step, but browser support, camera permissions, hosting, asset size, and mobile performance must be tested.
  • The hosted 8th Wall platform was retired on February 28, 2026; the current 8th Wall proposition is an open-source toolset that requires developer-managed builds, hosting, and maintenance.
  • Lens Studio and TikTok Effect House are social-effect authoring platforms, not replacements for an independent mobile app, a self-hosted WebAR site, or an industrial AR system.
  • Blender, Maya, Cinema 4D, Photoshop, and Illustrator create AR content and supporting graphics; they do not replace the tracking, rendering, permissions, and distribution layers.

Which augmented reality tool should you start with?

The best augmented reality tool depends on the project’s runtime and level of control. Use the following table as a first-pass recommendation rather than treating every product as a direct competitor.

Project goal Strong starting point Why it fits Main caution
Android phone AR app Google ARCore Native Android APIs for motion tracking, planes, images, faces, anchors, geospatial experiences, and related capabilities. Android hardware and feature support vary.
iPhone or iPad AR app Apple ARKit Native Apple framework for motion tracking, world tracking, scene understanding, camera passthrough, image analysis, and anchors. A separate Android implementation is needed for broad mobile reach.
One substantial app for Android and iOS Unity plus AR Foundation Shared development layer over providers such as ARCore and ARKit, with a large 3D and plug-in ecosystem. Shared code does not guarantee identical features or behavior.
High-fidelity 3D or engineering visualization Unreal Engine Well suited to sophisticated rendering and handheld iOS and Android AR workflows. Often excessive for a simple filter or product animation.
AR without an app download WebXR or a WebAR platform A URL or QR code can reduce installation friction. Browser, permission, device, and bandwidth support must be verified.
No-code or low-code WebAR Zapworks Designer or Mattercraft Visual authoring is faster than building a complete engine-based pipeline. Commercial plans, usage limits, hosting, and vendor dependency matter.
Snapchat lenses Lens Studio Designed for Snapchat effects and Snap’s creator and developer ecosystem. Distribution and publishing remain tied to Snapchat.
TikTok effects TikTok Effect House Designed for creating and publishing TikTok-native effects. It is not a platform-neutral AR runtime.
Open-source WebAR 8th Wall open-source toolset Developers can manage source code, builds, deployment, and hosting themselves. The former hosted editor and publishing workflow are no longer available.

What are augmented reality tools?

Augmented reality tools are the software layers used to sense the physical environment, place digital content in it, create the content, and deliver the finished experience. The phrase can describe a native software development kit, a game engine, a browser framework, a visual editor, a social-effect platform, a 3D modeling application, or an enterprise deployment system.

A complete AR production stack usually includes six layers:

  1. Tracking and sensing: Camera input, motion sensors, depth sensing, plane detection, image recognition, face or body tracking, geospatial positioning, and anchors.
  2. Rendering and interaction: 2D and 3D graphics, lighting, occlusion, physics, animation, gestures, spatial audio, and interface controls.
  3. Development or authoring: A native SDK, game engine, WebXR framework, visual editor, or social-effect authoring environment.
  4. Content production: Modeling, texturing, rigging, animation, sound, video, and asset optimization.
  5. Distribution: App Store, Google Play, browser URL, social platform, headset store, or managed enterprise device fleet.
  6. Operations: Hosting, analytics, authentication, content updates, privacy controls, moderation, support, and licensing.

This distinction prevents a common mistake: Blender, ARCore, and Lens Studio do different jobs. Blender can make a 3D model; ARCore can provide mobile sensing and tracking; Lens Studio can assemble and publish a Snapchat effect.

What are the main categories of AR tools?

Native AR SDKs: ARCore and ARKit

Native AR SDKs expose operating-system and device capabilities directly. Native SDKs are usually the right foundation when an AR feature must be deeply integrated into an existing mobile application or depends heavily on one hardware ecosystem.

Google ARCore

Google ARCore supports development paths for Android, iOS, Unity, Unreal, and WebXR. Its documented capabilities include motion tracking, augmented images, instant placement, cloud anchors, face features, and geospatial experiences.

ARCore is a strong choice for an Android-first application, a Google-supported geospatial experience, or a team integrating AR into an existing Android product. ARCore also provides guidance for Android, Android NDK, Unity, iOS, Unreal Engine, and WebXR development in its getting-started documentation.

The main trade-off is Android fragmentation. Different phones expose different cameras, depth sensors, processors, operating-system versions, and AR capabilities. A project that works on one ARCore-supported phone still needs testing across the actual device range that the product promises to support.

Apple ARKit

Apple ARKit is Apple’s framework for integrating device sensing into AR applications and games. ARKit documentation covers motion tracking, world tracking, scene understanding, camera passthrough, image analysis, and anchors.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

ARKit is the natural starting point for an iPhone or iPad application, especially when the team already uses Swift, Objective-C, Xcode, RealityKit, or Apple’s spatial-computing ecosystem. ARKit’s Apple-platform focus can simplify hardware assumptions, but an Android product requires a separate implementation or a cross-platform layer.

Apple advises developers to verify device support and respect user privacy when using ARKit. Camera, location, face, body, and environment data should be explained clearly in permission and privacy flows.

Cross-platform engines: Unity and Unreal Engine

Game engines combine rendering, interaction, asset management, animation, scripting, and deployment tools. Engines are more capable than a simple visual AR editor, but they also introduce more project management, optimization, and engineering work.

Unity with AR Foundation

Unity AR Foundation 6.1 provides a common development layer over provider plug-ins such as ARCore, ARKit, and OpenXR. Unity’s wider AR stack also includes the ARCore XR Plug-in, ARKit XR Plug-in, OpenXR Plug-in, Unity Mars, and XR Interaction Toolkit, as described in its AR development overview.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Unity is a strong fit for a substantial mobile AR app targeting both Android and iOS, an interactive 3D product, an AR game, or a project that may later expand to OpenXR or headset devices. Unity’s asset ecosystem and shared project structure can reduce duplicated work across platforms.

“Cross-platform” does not mean feature parity. Unity’s provider matrix shows that image tracking, object tracking, body tracking, meshing, occlusion, environment probes, participants, and other capabilities vary across ARCore, ARKit, OpenXR, and simulation providers. Treat the matrix as a planning aid, then validate each required feature on real target devices.

Unreal Engine

Unreal Engine’s AR framework supports handheld iOS and Android projects through C++ and Blueprint APIs. Unreal is particularly suitable when high-fidelity rendering, engineering visualization, architecture, automotive design, or complex 3D presentation is more important than the fastest possible prototype.

Unreal can be a poor fit for a lightweight social filter, a short image-triggered campaign, or a small team that does not already understand Unreal and mobile optimization. High visual quality does not remove the need to control memory, shader cost, asset size, and thermal load on phones.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Microsoft’s engine-selection guidance treats Unity, Unreal Engine, and WebXR as different choices based on target devices and development requirements. The guidance also distinguishes mobile AR from headset-oriented workflows.

WebAR and WebXR

WebAR delivers an AR experience through a mobile browser, usually from a URL, QR code, product page, or campaign landing page. WebXR is the browser-facing standards path for immersive experiences, while commercial WebAR platforms add authoring, deployment, analytics, hosting, or SDK layers.

Browser delivery is valuable when users should scan a code and begin without installing an app. WebAR suits packaging activations, event campaigns, product previews, short marketing experiences, and shareable demonstrations.

WebAR does not mean “works everywhere.” A browser experience depends on browser and operating-system support, camera permissions, secure delivery, in-app browser behavior, available AR modes, memory, network speed, and the exact device. A reliable WebAR campaign should include a normal landing page and a non-AR explanation for users whose browser or hardware cannot run the experience.

Zapworks

Zapworks offers several creation paths, including Mattercraft, Designer, Universal AR SDKs, and Studio-related tools. Zapworks describes Designer as a browser-based, drag-and-drop tool for image, world, and face tracking. Zapworks SDKs support development environments including Unity, Three.js, PlayCanvas, Babylon.js, and A-Frame.

Zapworks is a practical commercial option for agencies, brand campaigns, and teams that want visual authoring with a route to more advanced development. Zapworks identifies Mattercraft as the recommended successor to Studio, so new projects should evaluate the current tool rather than assume older Studio workflows remain the preferred path.

Zapworks is not automatically the cheapest option. A pricing snapshot observed in August 2026 displayed a US Developer plan at $12.99 per month or $64.99 annually for noncommercial use, and a US Pro plan at $315 per month or $2,640 annually for commercial use. The displayed Pro plan included 12,000 views per year, a 50 MB project-size limit, up to three team members, and email support; Enterprise pricing was custom. Prices, currency, limits, and terms are regional and volatile, so confirm the current Zapworks pricing page before committing.

Zapworks’ pricing and workspace documentation also describe a 14-day trial. A trial can validate authoring and device behavior, but a commercial buyer should separately test view limits, project-size limits, target-image limits, branding, hosting, analytics, support, and export or migration options.

What happened to 8th Wall?

The hosted 8th Wall platform was retired on February 28, 2026. The current project continues as an open-source toolset at 8th Wall’s open-source announcement and its current project page.

The current 8th Wall approach is for developers who want source control and self-managed deployment. Developers must manage the source repository, build process, hosting, content delivery, updates, monitoring, and maintenance themselves. The current toolset is therefore not equivalent to the former hosted editor and publishing workflow.

Open-source 8th Wall can suit a technical team that values control and migration flexibility. Open-source 8th Wall is a poor fit for a nontechnical marketer expecting a managed editor, hosted publishing, or turnkey vendor support.

Social AR creation platforms

Lens Studio

Lens Studio is designed for creating AR experiences associated with Snapchat and Snap’s AR ecosystem. Lens Studio is a better fit for social effects, creator-led distribution, and platform-native engagement than for a standalone mobile application that a business owns independently.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

TikTok Effect House

TikTok Effect House is designed to create and publish TikTok effects. Effect House’s main advantage is distribution through TikTok, but that distribution also creates dependence on TikTok’s moderation, publishing rules, supported features, analytics, and terms.

Question Social AR platform Independent AR app or WebAR
Where does it run? Inside a social network’s ecosystem. In an app you publish or a browser experience you deploy.
Primary advantage Fast creation and platform-native reach. Greater control over runtime, brand experience, data, and distribution.
Main dependency Platform moderation, publishing rules, and audience access. App stores, browsers, hosting, device support, or your own operational stack.
Best use Filters, creator campaigns, and shareable effects. Product visualization, owned campaigns, utilities, and business workflows.

No-code and low-code AR builders

No-code and low-code AR tools assemble scenes and behaviors visually. Zapworks Designer, Mattercraft, Lens Studio, and Effect House can reduce the amount of programming needed for a first experience.

No-code does not mean no production work. A no-code project can still require 3D modeling, texture optimization, lighting design, device QA, performance testing, privacy review, analytics, hosting, accessibility work, and commercial licensing. Visual authoring is most valuable when the experience is relatively constrained and the platform’s built-in tracking and interaction features meet the brief.

For a first no-code or low-code WebAR experiment, Zapworks Designer or Mattercraft is a more direct path than starting with a complete game engine. For a social effect, Lens Studio or Effect House is more appropriate because distribution is built around Snapchat or TikTok.

Which 3D tools are used to make AR assets?

3D production tools create the models and media that an AR runtime displays. Common choices include:

Content task Useful tools AR-specific responsibility
Modeling, rigging, and animation Blender, Maya, 3ds Max Keep geometry, rigs, animation, and file formats suitable for the target device.
Motion graphics and 3D design Cinema 4D and related tools Convert visual designs into efficiently rendered mobile or browser assets.
Materials and textures Substance tools, Photoshop Compress textures and control resolution, materials, shaders, and memory use.
Brand graphics and image targets Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma Create readable interfaces, packaging artwork, target images, and accessible instructions.

Blender can be an economical starting point for modeling, rigging, animation, and preparation, but Blender does not provide the complete camera-tracking, spatial-anchoring, device-permission, or AR-distribution layer. A lightweight campaign may use prebuilt assets and a visual platform; a robust application may require modeling, animation, engine development, backend services, analytics, QA, and deployment.

What is the difference between ARCore and ARKit?

ARCore and ARKit are native AR frameworks associated with different mobile ecosystems: ARCore is Google’s primary AR development path for Android and related integrations, while ARKit is Apple’s native framework for iPhone and iPad AR applications.

Criterion ARCore ARKit
Primary ecosystem Android, with documented paths for iOS, Unity, Unreal, and WebXR. Apple platforms, including iPhone and iPad AR development.
Typical starting use Android-native apps and Google-supported location or environment experiences. Apple-native apps and experiences integrated with Apple hardware and frameworks.
Capabilities documented by the vendor Motion tracking, augmented images, instant placement, cloud anchors, faces, and geospatial experiences. Motion tracking, world tracking, scene understanding, camera passthrough, image analysis, and anchors.
Main planning issue Android hardware fragmentation and device-specific capability differences. Apple-device and operating-system support must be checked for each feature.
Can one replace the other? No. A product requiring both ecosystems needs separate native paths or a cross-platform abstraction. No. ARKit does not provide Android support.

Use both native SDKs when a product depends on platform-specific capabilities, native performance, or deep operating-system integration. Use Unity AR Foundation when shared 3D application development is more valuable than completely separate native implementations.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is Unity or Unreal better for AR?

Unity is usually the more practical starting point for a cross-platform interactive mobile AR application, while Unreal is often the better candidate when high-fidelity visualization and sophisticated rendering dominate. Neither engine is objectively best for every AR project.

Decision factor Unity Unreal Engine
Typical strength Cross-platform interactive 3D, mobile AR, games, and a broad plug-in ecosystem. High-fidelity visualization, engineering, automotive, architecture, and complex 3D presentation.
AR workflow AR Foundation with ARCore, ARKit, OpenXR, and related provider plug-ins. Unified AR framework with C++ and Blueprint workflows for handheld iOS and Android projects.
Best fit Teams needing shared project structure across mobile platforms and potentially headsets. Teams already invested in Unreal or prioritizing rendering quality.
Risk Feature parity, package management, build size, memory use, and device testing still require engineering. Heavier project requirements and demanding mobile optimization for simple experiences.

Choose neither engine when the requirement is only a short image-triggered animation that a visual WebAR authoring tool can deliver faster. Choose an engine when the project needs substantial 3D interaction, custom behavior, complex animation, or a longer-lived application architecture.

How should you choose an augmented reality tool?

Choose the runtime first, then the tracking features, technical workflow, distribution model, commercial terms, and exit strategy.

1. Select the target runtime

Decide whether the experience will run as an Android app, iOS or iPadOS app, cross-platform mobile app, browser experience, Snapchat lens, TikTok effect, headset application, or enterprise smart-glasses workflow. A tool designed for Snapchat is not automatically suitable for a warehouse, and a native SDK may be excessive for a one-week campaign.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. List the tracking features

Write down the exact requirements: plane detection, image or QR-style target recognition, 3D object recognition, face tracking, body or hand tracking, depth sensing, occlusion, geospatial positioning, persistent anchors, shared spaces, indoor mapping, eye tracking, or hand tracking.

Do not select a platform merely because the platform supports “AR.” Confirm the required feature for every target provider, device class, browser, and operating-system version.

3. Match the tool to the team

Team profile Suitable starting options What the team still needs to learn
Beginner or visual creator Zapworks Designer, Mattercraft, Lens Studio, Effect House Asset preparation, scene design, testing, publishing, and platform constraints.
Web developer WebXR, Three.js, A-Frame, Zapworks SDKs, 8th Wall open source Camera permissions, browser support, hosting, loading performance, and fallback UX.
Mobile developer ARCore, ARKit, Unity AR Foundation Tracking behavior, device matrices, native permissions, and real-device QA.
3D or game developer Unity or Unreal with relevant AR providers Mobile performance, thermal behavior, memory budgets, and deployment testing.
Enterprise engineering team Native SDKs, Unity, Unreal, OpenXR, or a specialized managed platform Security, offline operation, fleet management, integrations, support, and auditability.

4. Decide who owns deployment

Ask whether the vendor hosts the experience, whether the team can export source code, whether the project can be self-hosted, who owns analytics and audience data, whether branding is mandatory, and how the experience can be migrated if the vendor changes its product.

The 8th Wall transition demonstrates why ownership and exit strategy belong in the initial procurement checklist. A hosted platform can reduce operational work, while an open-source or self-hosted workflow can provide more control but transfers hosting, maintenance, and support obligations to the buyer.

5. Check commercial terms before building

Check personal versus commercial use, revenue or funding thresholds, views or impressions, project size, team seats, target-image limits, branding, hosting region, SDK redistribution, support, security, and overage billing. “Free” can mean free development, free personal use, free source code, or free commercial publishing; those are different claims.

What does an AR development project require?

Tracking and environmental conditions

Tracking commonly fails in poor lighting, on glossy or transparent surfaces, on textureless environments, during rapid camera movement, with repetitive image targets, when targets are too small or distant, after large viewpoint changes, or when people and objects occlude the scene. Indoor GPS can also be weak for location-based experiences.

Recovery strategies include improving lighting, using a high-contrast and feature-rich target, reducing target distance, adding a reticle and user guidance, allowing re-centering or re-anchoring, offering a fallback 2D mode, and testing older or lower-end supported devices.

Performance and asset preparation

Assess polygon count, texture resolution and compression, material count, draw calls, animation complexity, shader cost, video size and codec support, startup time, CDN delivery, battery use, thermal load, and device memory. A desktop prototype can fail on an older phone because of frame-rate drops, memory pressure, thermal throttling, or slow asset loading.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Browser and permission reliability

WebAR can fail when a user denies camera access, opens a link in an unsupported in-app browser, uses a device with insufficient memory, visits a page without secure delivery, or faces a browser that lacks the required AR mode. A fallback landing page should explain the product or campaign without assuming that camera-based AR is available.

Privacy, safety, and accessibility

Review camera and microphone permissions, face and body data, location data, environment capture, cloud processing, data retention, consent, child and teen users, and disclosure requirements. AR interfaces should remain readable in different lighting conditions and should provide an alternative for users who cannot or do not want to use camera-based AR. Physical-safety guidance matters when users may walk, drive, work, or interact with surroundings while looking through a device.

What should beginners build first?

Beginners should constrain the first AR project to one platform, one tracking method, one small optimized model, and one simple interaction.

  1. Choose one target: Android, iPhone, browser, Snapchat, or TikTok.
  2. Start from an official sample or template.
  3. Use one tracked image or one horizontal plane.
  4. Use a small, optimized 3D model rather than a complex scene.
  5. Test on a real device before adding elaborate interaction.
  6. Add interaction only after tracking and performance are stable.
  7. Test in poor lighting, with reflective surfaces, during movement, and at different camera distances.
  8. Publish privately or through a test channel before commercial release.

Zapworks Designer or Mattercraft is a direct first path for a no-code or low-code WebAR experiment. ARCore or ARKit documentation is a better starting point for a first native app because the official setup paths expose the relevant platform assumptions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What are the most common AR tool mistakes?

  • Choosing by popularity: A popular tool may target the wrong runtime or distribution channel.
  • Comparing unlike products: ARCore and ARKit are SDKs, Unity and Unreal are engines, Lens Studio and Effect House are social authoring environments, and Zapworks is a commercial creation and deployment platform.
  • Assuming feature parity: Shared code does not mean identical tracking or rendering capabilities across ARCore, ARKit, OpenXR, browsers, and devices.
  • Skipping real-device testing: Simulators cannot fully reproduce lighting, camera permissions, sensor behavior, thermal limits, memory pressure, or tracking loss.
  • Underestimating assets: No-code tools still need optimized models, textures, animation, video, and interface graphics.
  • Ignoring commercial terms: A prototype plan may not permit commercial use or may impose views, branding, storage, target-image, or team limits.
  • Building browser AR without a fallback: Unsupported browsers, denied permissions, large downloads, and in-app browsers can prevent the AR experience from opening.
  • Assuming hosted tools are permanent: Vendor retirement, pricing changes, publishing changes, and moderation changes make source ownership and migration planning important.
  • Calling a 3D modeling program an AR platform: Content creation is only one layer of an AR production stack.

Android-native AR ARCore Direct access to Google’s Android AR capabilities. You need one shared application codebase across Android and iOS.
Apple-native AR ARKit Deep integration with Apple devices and frameworks. Android coverage is a core requirement.
Cross-platform mobile 3D Unity plus AR Foundation Shared project architecture and provider integrations. The project requires a provider-specific capability or has very limited scope.
High-end visualization Unreal Engine Strong choice when rendering quality and complex 3D are central. The experience is a lightweight filter or simple product animation.
App-free marketing WebXR or Zapworks QR-code and URL distribution can reduce installation friction. The experience needs tightly controlled native performance or advanced persistent tracking.
Self-managed open-source WebAR 8th Wall open source More control over source, builds, deployment, and hosting. The team needs a managed editor and turnkey publishing.
Snapchat reach Lens Studio Purpose-built for Snapchat lenses. The business needs independent hosting and ownership of the runtime.
TikTok reach Effect House Purpose-built for TikTok effects. The project must operate independently of TikTok.
3D asset creation Blender or another 3D content tool Creates models, materials, rigs, and animations for an AR runtime. You expect the modeling tool alone to provide tracking or distribution.
Industrial or enterprise deployment A platform selected for fleet, security, offline, integration, and support requirements Consumer AR features alone do not establish enterprise readiness. The vendor cannot document device management, data handling, support, or integration needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the easiest augmented reality tool for beginners?

Zapworks Designer or Mattercraft is a direct starting point for a no-code or low-code WebAR experiment. Lens Studio and TikTok Effect House are more appropriate when the desired result is a Snapchat or TikTok effect, while native SDKs and game engines require more engineering.

Do users need to install an app for WebAR?

WebAR can run from a browser URL or QR code without a dedicated app download, but browser support, camera permissions, secure delivery, device memory, and the required AR mode determine whether the experience actually works. A fallback non-AR page is recommended.

Is 8th Wall still a hosted WebAR platform?

No. The hosted 8th Wall platform was retired on February 28, 2026. The current 8th Wall project is an open-source toolset that requires developers to manage source control, builds, hosting, deployment, and maintenance.

Can one AR app support Android and iPhone?

One AR app can target Android and iPhone through a cross-platform engine such as Unity with AR Foundation, but shared code does not guarantee identical feature support. Teams should test ARCore and ARKit provider behavior separately and may need platform-specific code.

How much do augmented reality tools cost?

Costs range from development tools with no separately identified ARCore or ARKit SDK subscription price to commercial hosted platforms, engine subscriptions, hardware, hosting, 3D asset production, testing, and development services. A Zapworks pricing snapshot observed in August 2026 displayed US Developer pricing of $12.99 monthly or $64.99 annually for noncommercial use and US Pro pricing of $315 monthly or $2,640 annually for commercial use; regional terms can change.

The Bottom Line

There is no universal best augmented reality tool. Choose ARCore for Android-native work, ARKit for Apple-native work, Unity AR Foundation for substantial cross-platform mobile applications, Unreal for high-fidelity 3D visualization, WebXR or Zapworks for app-free campaigns, Lens Studio or Effect House for social effects, and 8th Wall open source when a technical team wants to manage its own WebAR stack. Confirm feature support, commercial licensing, device behavior, hosting, privacy, and the platform’s exit path before building.
